View 2 RepliesI have a new HP Envy 17t with Windows 10 64 bit. I have been installing various bits of software that I need to have. However, with some applications I get a strange error pop up, first a window telling me that the application is from an unknown source then, when I click OK, to continue, another window pops up, this one:
This has happened twice in the last 24 hours. Once when I tried to install a windows application so that I can root my Lenovo android tablet and then again when I wanted to install a media converter app.
I have the latest versions of both applications, I made sure they both were made for Windows 10 64 bit, but Windows 10 won't install them.
Have Windows 10 Pro 1511 10586.17 installed but want to make the windows borders bit wider as I do not like the ultra narrow ones.
I have changed borderwidth setting in registry and have also done so with the paddedborderwidth setting but regardless of what I do to that setting, after reboot the border stays the same.
When I initially installed Win10, it logged in with lightning speed (from the lock screen). After the update last weekend it takes longer to log in than it did with Win 7. or 8. How to speed up login time?
I'm running Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.3), 64 bit
So we now have got a new stable channel for Firefox thats v41.0.
I wanted to know what all tweaks could be done to this version Firefox to achieve best performance in Firefox.
I ask this because many of the old tweaks and parameters are deprecated in the newer version.
I've really had it with Windows 10 now. The latest upgrade made my computer slow to a crawl, and disabled my ability to change the features on my Logitech mouse. The mouse now moves 1:1, so that I must move it 18" to get from one side of the screen to the other. The Logitech website claims the mouse is for Windows 7, not 10, so I must buy a new mouse? It worked fine before this last upgrade.
I would really like to go back to Windows 7, but my restore disks don't seem to work. Perhaps buying Windows 7 disks has become worth it.
Microsoft has shown their incompetence with their latest upgrade. We used to run a program to optimize compiled code to make it faster. That concept must be unknown to Microsoft.
Using Windows ADK 10 v1511, how do I create a CD of the Windows PE latest version for the imaging, recovery and system maintenance?
View 6 RepliesI am running windows 10 and have the latest version of iTunes on my PC. Whenever i connect my iPhone 6 and sync however, the syncing process reaches step 3 (Preparing to copy items), a small window pops up saying "iTunes has stopped working" and under this it says "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
View 1 RepliesMy sons computer has a legit copy of windows home but for some reason the installed version was 32 bit, I noticed later that the machine was x64 bit processor.
I installed windows ten prior to noticing the version, I would like to change it to x64 bit, I read a few threads on converting, I downloaded the x64 ISO and burnt it to a DVD.
I am not concerned about wiping the drive clean everything needed has been removed and copied.
I read about skipping the key as it is being installed and that a key would be issued by Microsoft based on the hardware of the machine.
I am curious, would the key for the original 32 bit installation be the one that would be inserted in the x64 bit install or would a different key be issued?
I just got the Microsoft Surface 3. I found out the Windows 10 is Home version. How can I turn on the Classic Start Menu. There is no turn on button on the Control Panel - Status Bar - Start Menu tap is missing.
View 9 RepliesI have BizSpark, and I'd like to upgrade my Windows 10 Home computer to the Pro version. I downloaded the "Multiple Versions" ISO from MSDN, but when I run it from within Windows, it only lets me re-install the Home edition. How do I upgrade without doing a clean install?
View 9 RepliesI figured out on the pro version but the home version doesn't have GPedit.msc. I disabled Defender but I still see antimalware services executable running in Processes.
View 2 RepliesI was installing a new printer on a Windows 10 home computer today in an office. The other PC's I upgraded to Win 10 from 7, no problems. This PC is a relatively new one that came with 10 pre-installed when they purchased it. When installing the new printer a couple of the pc's (including this one), had a duplicate entry (I am thinking they must have tried to install it themselves at some point and failed, though they hadn't told me that).
On the other PC I was able to go into 'print management' and remove the duplicate entry, then reinstall and everything is fine. On the "new" PC however, 'printmanagement.msc' is completely missing. I tried bringing it up with the searchbar first, it didn't find it. So I went via the admin panel and there was no shortcut. Launching from cmd line did nothing. On the other computer I was able to find 'printmanagement.msc' in the system32 folder, but on this computer it is not present in that folder at all.
I did some searching on MS and Google, and only found instructions for installing the snap-in via Windows Server 2003/2008. How I can (re)install this component on that PC using Windows 10 Home? It seems odd to me that would be missing in the first place. Perhaps this is an easy answer and my GoogleFu is weak on this occasion, but I couldn't find any references to not having printmanager present on a native Windows 10 install. I didn't turn up any kind of download for it on the Microsoft site, but as I said, perhaps I'm just "missing" it.
I just realized I should have tried an sfc /scannow, but didn't think of that until I was writing this.
My PC has Windows 10 Pro installed on it but it's just a 1 month trial version. I ordered Windows 10 Home for it but I'm wondering if I will get to preserve all my personal files and settings when I install it. I'm going to back it up just in case either way, but it would be nice to know if everything is preserved or not.
View 1 RepliesIf I buy a OEM key from a store, can I go to the enter product key section of the settings and use that key? I think I heard somewhere that OEM keys can only be used when you're installing windows, not on an already installed windows.
View 1 Repliesif i try to install the latest windows 10 driver it says it fails, then if i try to uninstall my current ones it says it fails as well. what am i supposed to do, my other display wont get recognized and my main display is not running at 1080p.
View 1 RepliesI'd like to know what I have to do in order for Windows 10 to stop reinstalling the latest(not working) video drivers. Every single time I go and install the working driver for it, after a reboot Windows has done it again and reinstalled the latest driver. How do I tell Windows 10 to let ME decide which driver to install and keep??
View 1 RepliesThere are 2 specific websites that we were able to access just fine (about a week ago) on our home computer, phone, and tablet (at home) and on any browser.
Now, we cannot access these sites (gives 'server taking too long to respond' and ERR Connection Timed Out' through ANY browswer at our home and we CAN access them ONLY thru Firefox at our Shop/Business computer. (which uses the same ISP as our home, btw).
We have spent hours on the phone with our ISP and he did everything you could think of: Checked our Router, gave us a completely new IP, checked DNS, flushed DNS. Our sites would work when he checked them through I guess different proxy servers. And I CAN access them ONLY thru something like: Ninjaproxy.com.
These websites are through GoDaddy. We contacted them and they said they could access them fine, too.
I have increased timeout thru registry.
FireWall being on or off makes no difference
Ran various Antivirus, found no threats.
Checked both websites in question at Downforme.org and downforeveryoneorjustme.com. Both state it is 'Just You' that both sites are up and running/online.
I am thinking maybe a System Reset/Restore may work, but haven't tried that, yet.
WTF could this all mean? WHY are ONLY OUR COMPUTERS being blocked, yet various other friends (even with same ISP as us) can access them just fine?
Redirect Virus?
DNS issues?
Blocked/Hacked?
Go Daddy or our ISP at fault?
I had windows 8.1 and already upgraded for free to windows 10 home. Now I want to do a clean install of windows 10 with a usb drive and their create media installer program. What I want to know is if I can possibly use the windows 10 home N version? I like the idea of not having the stuff I may not use if I go for 3rd party software for videos and the like. Will it work or will it not let me since I didn't have an "N" version of my windows 8.1?
View 1 RepliesI recently used a Windows 10 ISO image tool to store Windows 10 on a USB for later use. Then I found out that I had to buy a Windows 10 license for it to work and I bought one... an OEM version. This isn't a huge issue as I can buy an optical drive for 20 bucks and put it inside of the PC that I will work on but then if the OEM product key will work with the Windows that I have stored on the flash drive that would be great as I don't have to spend 20 dollars on an optical drive that I will never use since I download most (if not all) of my media online. Long story short I would like to use an OEM product key on a flash drive that has Windows 10 on it.

Just upgraded to Windows 10, and it only took 10 min! After looking at the features I saw cortana was disabled due to policy, but fixed that with language changes. After that I expected it to work, but no. It says "Cortana is not available for this version of Windows", yet my control panel says I have a 64bit Windows 10 Pro Operating system.
View 1 RepliesI have an issue with the latest AMD Drivers on my Windows 10 Pro x64. Whenever I have the Crimson edition or 15.++ drivers (15.3 onwards) it crashes or gives a BSOD. The crash occurs repeatedly once you reach the desktop screen until you hit a BSOD but sometimes it shows a BSOD while logging in, the screen flickers a lot (white or sometimes black).
The solutions so far was to install a 14.12 omega catalyst or revert to Windows 7. TdrDelay and letting Windows 10 updating it from their own doesn't work either. BSOD error is VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE atikmpag.sys which happens sometimes before reaching desktop or if the desktop crashes too many times. 14.12 works but it gives limited FPS since it's outdated.
I recently did a reset on my Windows 10 laptop and it reset to version 10240. I am not being prompted to update to the latest version via Windows Update. How do I trigger the update to send TH2?
View 9 RepliesAfter installing the early January updates, I can no longer mount/linkto/attach my two NAS drives. They are connected through the same switch that my PC is on. I have updated the NAS firmware with reboot, and restarted the switch.
The Advanced Sharing Settings are set to "ON".
NB the volumes are mountable from my Mac under Yosemite.
This morning after windows installed these updates my startup time increased significantly. I've had fast startup enabled. It stays on the welcome screen for at least 10 seconds
