View 1 RepliesI'd like to redirect the Downloads folder to a different disk (D drive). What's the best method?
a. Right click Downloads folder -> Location -> change path
b. or, use mklink?
So "This PC" has a series of folders: Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, etc...I have my preferences to "Open each folder in the same window". For most folders, this works exactly as it should. However, whenever I open a sub folder in the Downloads folder, it opens up in a new window.
View 4 RepliesI have my downloads folder sorted by "Date Added" (newest at the top) and whenever I download a new file, the file will always goes to the bottom (when I have the Downloads folder open as I click download). I then refresh the page and it goes to the top of the list, where it's supposed to be.
Is there a way to make the newly downloaded files go straight to the top of the list without having to refresh the downloads folder?
I just recently installed my SSD and I was in the process of changing the location of my Downloads folder from my new SSD drive, to my 1TB HHD, so as to save space. I then changed my mind and wanted to keep the Downloads folder on the SSD drive, so I went to change it back by going into the "Location" tab under Properties and moving it back to the SSD drive.
Bad idea, because now my Users folder has been renamed Downloads and I can't change the name of the folder anymore. I've tried solution #147545 from the sevenforums.com but that didn't work for me.
It's weird because when I look at the folder with a different User account logged in, it shows up like it should with my original user name. So it's only different when I'm logged in as the original user looking at the folder, because I see it as Downloads.
Now if I right-click and select properties, under the "Sharing" tab, it shows that it's perfectly fine and not named Downloads. Also under the "Security" tab, the Object name shows up perfectly fine as well and is not named Downloads.
So this morning, I turned on my PC to discover that my downloads folder is now completely empty (I had put a few folders and files in there and downloaded some programs, all gone now). Even shortcuts that I placed on the desktop have disappeared, and I had to re-sign in to Chrome and import all of my bookmarks again. Last night I had accidentally clicked on restart instead of shut down, as they are so close together. I don't know if this could have contributed to the issue. After waiting for it to come back on I shut it down.
I'm just wanting to know what could have caused this, and how to fix it if possible. Definitely don't want it to happen again, and not sure if it's a Windows 10 issue or a fault with my PC. Should mention that I only recently bought this computer and it came pre-installed with Windows 10.
Solved by restarting again...still somewhat worrying that something like that could happen though.
I made the mistake of moving the download folder to the desktop folder. Now it uses the same folder for both desktop and downloads. I see no way to separate them again. On the "This PC" screen, it shows "Desktop" for both the download and desktop icons. I tried the regedit fix, but it didn't work. How can I separate desktop and downloads, like it was originally?
View 1 RepliesIt only happens when I open the Downloads folder from Quick Access and This PC.
I've already checked the Folder Option. Launch folder windows in separate process and Open each folder in its own windows both are unchecked and I also tried everything that I've found, but nothing works
How to change the default Downloads folder in Edge in build 10159? I've looked through all the settings, including the Advanced ones, and there's nowhere to change this.
View 9 RepliesI just got my hands on a new UX305 from ASUS and it's working wonderfully. However, I wanted to change the icons for the Desktop, Downloads, Music, etc. folders in Quick access in File Explorer. I was able to do it on my main rig, but there is no customize tab for most of the folders in quick access, and those that do still don't allow me to change the icon.
View 1 RepliesDoes clean option, drop the last character of their user folder during the install?
Example, my user folder was called Julian on 8.1 Therefore c:UsersJulianDesktop blah blah blah.... Well now its c:usersjuliaxxxxxxx
Enough so for me to do a reformat and complete wipe and clean install. however now my Microsoft account must of caught wind of this new path and my new clean install is still Julia.
I'm about to reformat again... perhaps try a local account first, then merge it my Microsoft account.
So,I've been using windows 10 for few weeks now and since the time I switched there has been some minor issues and two annoying problems:
1.My downloads get stuck at the end i.e at 99.98% or something.
2.Start up takes a long time without fast boot with a brief balck screen between loading screen and login screen.
The 2nd issue i've come to know that many people are facing and there is no fix as of now and I've left it for Ms to fix. But the First issue is becoming increasingly annoying.
First noticed it happening with firefox download manager wherein download would get stuck at the end and I will have to pause and resume multiple times to get it done.
So I started using IDm and noticed the same, only this time I will not have to pause and resume multiple times, once will do.
Not sure what is causing this [URL] ....
Have attached a screenshot taken at the time.
After sometime the one saying disconnect turns completed and there is one in the end(not visible in the screenshot)which is stuck and does not change unless I pause and resume the download.
When I try to download ITunes, I get a successful note from ITunes, but then a pop up says error7 error(win5)so it wont work. I am also unable to reload my Kaspersky anti virus, with my CD,I get a message saying app was not installed.
View 2 RepliesI upgraded an HP Desktop which had Windows 7 Home Premium OEM installed to Windows 10. Everything seemed to go well. When I checked in Device Manager, I found my HP Printer drivers were not working. So, I tried to update them, no luck. I then went to the HP website and downloaded the new full feature software for my HP printer, which installed in the default download folder. When I tried to open the downloaded folder, a pop-up window came up asking Where I want to install this. I tried Internet Explorer, didn't work. Then another pop-up window came up with the download file in it, titled "View downloads-Internet Explorer." I click on open, then the first window pop-up opens again, "Where do you want to install this." I also, tried to download something else, same problem. I changed User Control Setting to never notify. I ran System File Checker. Still the same problem, will not install any download.

View 1 RepliesA long while ago I downloaded SymMover and managed to really mess up my files. I managed to take Favorites, Desktop, and Downloads out of what I'm pretty sure is called the Navigation Pane. I have 2 different Download folders in the Pane, neither of which are the actual one, and I do not know where my Desktop folder is. I can get to it if I follow a link in my User file, but that's it.

I want to install a driver that I do know work, but to do that, Windows own driver must be uninstalled.
I am having an issue with network lag. When doing any downloads from anywhere or any source. Firefox, palemoon. Display fusion wallpaper, or any downloads that happen online from any source.
Not sure what is causing it.
When checking resource monitor it shows network going up considerably , may end up trying a different network monitor that I can log.
my network itself is fine and fast, and contacted network provider and all shows good.

View 4 RepliesI have a PC with Windows 10 Build 10586, upgraded from 8.1.
WiFi downloads are very slow on it for some reason. SpeedTest.net shows 15 MBPS, but while download a simple 5 MB image file via Chrome takes 45 minutes. Max download speed is 15 KB/s.
But when I keep softwares like AutoDesk Revit for download through their own downloaders, it gets 1 MB/s download speed.
So why is downloading via Chrome or other browsers and some other software so slow?
I tried to download win10 twice with media tool but it reached ~75% and then its just gone without any error ... however this is not the problem.
I think the downloaded 75% are still stored on my C drive because i have a folder called $Windows.~WS its empty (there is folder called Source but also empty) but 5.26 GB in size (invisible data) .i want to delete it to save some space but im afraid that "get windows 10 app" is downloading in it and i dont want to delete it ( im still waiting for the notification though)so
1) is get windows 10 app downloading? knowing im still waiting the notification?
2) if 1 = true how to delete the media tool failed downloads?else if 1=false is it safe to delete the whole folder?
I have recently been trying to update an old hp laptop running windows 7. The 10130 update is showing ready to download, it downloads and tried to install but repeatedly fails at around 70-80% each time. It gives an error code of 800703f1 each time.
I have tried disabling all security features and firewalls etc. The laptop will not let me restore or reset to factory settings. I am not able to download the bios file as i have no flash drive to put it onto.
