Drivers/Hardware :: DVD Drive Was Working Under Win7 - Completely Disappeared

Jul 31, 2015

This issue is as simple as the subject line. My DVD drive was working fine under Windows 7. In fact I even installed 10 from a burned DVD. Now it is completely MIA. No exclamation-marked devices on device manager or anything. I did try a couple solutions that were supposed to work on a similar problem on 8, namely registry changes, but they did no good.

Drivers/Hardware :: Can't Access DVD Drive After Upgrading

Oct 20, 2015

My DVD drive worked fine in Win7, and still works fine if I boot from it, but since upgrading to Win10 I can't access any disk in it. File Explorer "sees" my G drive, but when I want to look at a disk it tells me to insert a disk. Device manager told me that my drive was a virtual clone drive, so I removed it and deleted the driver, and now I don't see any optical drives. I can't find the model number of the LG drive, so I can't download a suitable driver.

Drivers/Hardware :: Synaptics Touchpad Drivers Not Working After Upgrading?

Nov 6, 2015

I just got this laptop (Dell Vostro 3558 i3), a few days ago i upgraded to windows 10 using the media creation tool. After the upgrade, the touch pad works but I cannot scroll. I have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them. When I upgraded there was nothing listed that went along the lines of synaptics in the control panel (uninstall).

I have tried installing the drivers of windows 10 and windows 7 from the dell website, what happens is quite weird, the installer says it installs without any errors but nothing happens, there is no synaptics program listed in the control panel.

Excuse me if I left any important details out but it is the first time that i have come across this issue and don't know what info I should give. I should also note that before I upgraded the touch pad worked along with the program of the drivers, now all I get is the usual mouse options and in device manager it recognizes it as a P/S2 mouse.

Drivers/Hardware :: Speakers Sound Device Disappeared

Aug 7, 2015

I installed Windows 10 last week and have been using it with mainly no problems (apart from my DVD/CD drive not working, which I posted a thread here about but haven't received any responses yet ).When I am visiting my family back home in England I often plug my laptop into the tv to watch films with the kids through the HDMI port. I usually have to change the "default" audio device to the AMD HDMI Output to do this, and then change it back afterwards. I did this once with no problems.

However, the last time I watched something I didn't change it back before shutting down. And now my "Internal Speakers" device has disappeared. I tried uninstalling all drivers relating to sound devices in device manager and doing a scan for changes - the HD Audio device reappeared, but still no "internal speakers" option. I tried checking "show disabled devices" in the "playback devices" window, still no joy. I uninstalled everything again and used the drivers from the ASUS support page for my model laptop (ASUS x53z) and still nothing

I installed the updated sound drivers from AMD in the sticky post here. Again, nothing but the HDMI audio option. This is frustrating as I live abroad and my laptop is my main method of both communicating home and watching media. I can't use my headphones now.I have considered doing a System Restore, but crazily the only System restore point available is from when some automatic updates were installed after the issue appeared. My only option is to do a System Reset, losing all my applications, but i'm not convinced this will solve the issue. I have noticed that there is one device showing that it is unable to start in device manager.

Upgrading On Different Hard Drive

Jul 28, 2015

So, I currently have Windows 7 installed in a standard HDD and I bought an SSD a while ago with intentions of reinstalling windows on it. With the Windows 10 update coming in tomorrow, I was wondering if I could install the Windows 10 update on the SSD. Even if it's just installing it on the current HDD I have and then doing a clean install on an SSD. Point is, I want to know if there is any way I can have Windows 10 running on my SSD after tomorrow.

Drivers/Hardware :: Windows Misidentifies C Drive As Solid State Drive - Cannot Defrag?

Sep 9, 2015

When I was running Windows 7, my system had a small solid state C drive that did not have enough space for windows 10 upgrade. I got a larger 2TB regular hard disk and used the manufacturer's software to clone the old Windows-7 SSD C drive to the new 2TB and then upgraded to Windows 10.

Now under windows 10, when go into defrag, the C Drive shows as a Solid State drive and of course windows does not want to optimize it.

The new drive definitely is not SSD. I assume somehow that setting was cloned from the old disk.

Is there either a way to change the C drive to a regular "hard disk drive" or force windows to defrag what it thinks is a SSD?

Drivers/Hardware :: Hard Drive Inaccessible After Upgrade (Apps Stored On Drive Run)

Jan 14, 2016

Problem: When I click on my H: drive or try to access it from the command line, it gives me an access denied error. However, all of the applications that I have installed on that drive run without issue. So, there is some access there. (See attached images. The first shows the hard drive state in diskmanager and in windows explorer. The second image shows the minecrafter launcher profile (that it is stored in H: and the application running, proving that there is some access.

System: Home built PC: (C:) 240GB SSD for OS, (E:) 1TB HDD for file storage and backup, (H:) 1TB HDD for large applications and video editing files. All drives are Simple, Basic, and none have encryption. All use the SATA connectors.

Process: I had Windows 7 Home 64 bit with, among many other things, Comodo Internet Security, Virtualbox, ImageDisk.
During the upgrade process, I noticed that Windows 10, during the upgrade, ran the file system check and fix "problems" on the H: drive.

(Side note) Having forgotten to uninstall Comodo before the upgrade, I did not have network after the upgrade. The fix was non-trivial as I had to use a second computer to download the unofficial comodo uninstaller. Reboot. Uninstall the network devices. Reboot. And once Windows 10 was up and running, it reinstalled the network devices and the network was available.

Still, whether before or after the Comodo uninstall and reinstall, the uninstall of ImageDisk, or the uninstall of the Virtualbox network device, I have no access to the H: drive.

Drivers/Hardware :: Moving AVI Files To External Drive / Drive Not Recognized And Lost All

Apr 14, 2016

I was moving video files (AVI) from an external backup drive (WD Element) to another external backup drive (Seagate expansion) after having moved another video file from my laptop (Acer) to that Seagate external drive. The night before I had moved some video files from the WD to the Seagate with no problem but using a different laptop (Sony). These video files are all rather large and I can tell that the space is still being allocated on the Seagate because while the folder cannot be seen the space that was there is still being used by the Seagate because I am missing over 100GB which would be about the size of that now missing folder.

What happened was there was a message that the Seagate drive could not be recognized while the files were in the process of being moved to that drive from the WD. This is after I had already moved a video file of about 26GB with no problem into that now missing folder. When I saw the message I attempted several times to move files to that Seagate drive but I could not so I unplugged the Seagate drive from that laptop (Acer) then reinserted it into the usb port. I got a repair message that said it needed to be repaired because some files were corrupted and that no data would be lost but the drive would be unavailable during the repairs so I checked ok. It took only about 30 seconds and it said the repairs were completed and the drive was available but I noticed that the folder that I was moving the video files to was not gone.

As I stated there are more than 100GB of files in that folder some are video and others are audio recordings that were created by using the myrecording (audio and video) features of the Acer laptop and they are very important so I need to figure out if they can be retrieved from that Seagate drive. I have not copied anything else onto that Seagate drive but I have plugged it into the Acer computer to ensure it is being recognized. Both the external drives WD and Seagate are plug and play that are powered from the usb -- they have no power adapters.

Drivers/Hardware :: After Upgrading PC Won't Recognize SSD Or HDD?

Sep 1, 2015

Two days ago I got home from work and turned on my computer, which is a little over a year old and has never had any problems before. It wouldn't boot up. It said something about the ivp4 or ivp6 or something along those lines. Whatever. Anyway, I restarted a few times and eventually went into BIOS and didn't see my SSD listed anywhere... Only the ivp4, ivp6, dvd rom, and my HDD. Ok. So I reconfigured my settings, put the HDD first in the boot sequence, and restarted....

And then it said there was no boot drive. So I went into BIOS (originally I couldn't get into that... I had to put a Windows 7 boot disk into the dvd rom to even have that option) and there is no SSD and no HDD. Now when I restart it without the boot disk in the dvdrom it says, "Restart and select proper boot device". Too bad I can't. I wish I could. I unplugged the SSD and HDD and put them into a really old PC I have... It didn't recognize them. BUT... Then I took the HDD out of the really old PC and plugged it into the newer one... And it wasn't recognized there even though it's good on the other one.

Also, when I plugged in two external HDDs, they were both visible. I couldn't boot up with them, of course, but they were there in BIOS. My PC still powers on perfectly fine. I've taken the CMOS out to reset any misremembered settings there. I've set BIOS to default, played with settings, gone back to default, etc. I've configured my SATA to Raid, AHCI, and IDE. All serial ATA ports read as empty, even though they're not. I've plugged my SSD into different ports, used different cables, etc.

The only thing different about anything is that a few days prior to this, I took a plunge of curiosity and upgraded to Windows 10. I usually wait at least a year before upgrading OS's to give time for all bugs to work their way out, but for some reason I didn't this time. One lovely day my computer randomly wouldn't read my SSD. Then it stopped reading my HDD. It wouldn't read a good HDD from another computer but the other computer wouldn't read either the SSD or the HDD from the first computer. It would read external HDDs but not boot from them.

It'd make sense if my SSD and HDD just died for no reason and were bad (but why would one die and then the other a few minutes later?) but if that's the case, why won't my PC read the old HDD from another PC that I know works? Likewise, it'd make sense if my newer PC just wasn't reading any drives and they were actually both fine, but then why would it read external HDD's and why wouldn't the SSD and HDD show up on my old PC? (It's old AF... Maybe that's why?)

Drivers/Hardware :: Bluetooth Not Available After Upgrading?

Dec 8, 2015

I just purchased a recertified Asus Q302LA 2 in 1 convertible 13.3" Laptop which came with Windows 8 installed. When I upgraded to Windows 10, shortly after I got it, the Bluetooth would not function. It did function with the Windows 8.

On the "System Information" page I found at System Summary>Components>Storage>Problem Devices, this entry: Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator LE Device
BTHMS_BTHLE9&d0f185d&0&0
This device cannot start.

I also found when double clicking on Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator LE in the Device Manager, and getting the "Properties" box; an entry for "Device Status" under the "General" tab that says: This device cannot start (Code 10) STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE

Also, under the "Events" tab in the "Properties" box there is an entry under "Information" that says:
Device BTHMS_BTHLE9&d0f185d&0&0 requires further installation.

I have checked for driver updates and there were none. There is no "Bluetooth" icon in the "Action Center" sidebar, instead there is a "Connect" icon, but I cannot connect my bluetooth headphones or a bluetooth keyboard. Just get the message "No Devices Found".

I have the only two services for "Bluetooth" on the Services page "running" with "Automatic" start. I did not find an entry for the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator LE.

Drivers/Hardware :: No Sound After Upgrading And Computer Won't Shut Down

Aug 14, 2015

I'm having a myriad of issues after upgrading to Windows 10. I'll list them below along with what i've already done to resolve:

- Computer won't shut down.

Someone told me to disable something with the Gigabyte process on the Motherboard, didn't work. I click on shut down and the computer restarts instead.

- No sound except EXTREMELY low sound on headphones.

I've already tried installing the Windows 10 Realtek HD drivers but nothing seems to work. Eventually I somehow got the headphones to play sounds but is is incredibly low even fully maxed out. All devices show that they are "working" correctly. Also, when I test it, I can see the green bar moving as if sound is playing, but no sound in any speakers / headphones I hook to the computer comes out.

- Less important issue but the "search" bar in the bottom doesnt ever return any results, ever. It just sits there indefinitely.

Drivers/Hardware :: Lost Audio On HP DV6700 Laptop Since Upgrading

Aug 8, 2015

Lost audio on HP DV6700 laptop since upgrading to Windows 10. Ihave removed sound device from device manager and reinstalled, have replaced driver with previously saved W7 driver....still nothing, not even the windows system sounds, critical battery etc.... All seems eps ok except this.....saw a post that says the sound is integrated with the graphic card, but the graphic card now has a windows 10 driver from nvidea.....maybe should downgrade GPU with W7 driver...

Just tried the idea of setting frequency to 16bit 9600 but I received no sound output error box....then went to enhancements settings where it has bass etc etc settings, was disabled so enabled it without choosing any option..then went back to frequency and changed it to default, which is 24 bit 19200....then was told not supported by this device but then miraculously it worked....now have all sound restored windows music everything...not sure if still have windows 7 driver...it is MS 2008... really scared to update the driver as it is all now working....not sure how I fixed it though, was it one particular action ? or a combination...?

Drivers/Hardware :: Audio Disabled After Upgrading In Dell Optiplex AIO

Sep 19, 2015

Since I upgrade to Windows 10 (coming from 8.1) in my friend's Dell Optiplex 3011 All-In-One computer, with built-in speakers, the audio has been disabled, and I see the Windows speaker icon is with an "x". In Windows 8.1, the audio was working normally, so it's not a hardware issue.

However, if I plug in an earphone, the audio output is enabled and the Windows speaker icon changes to normal one. I installed the latest version of Realtek HD Audio driver (R2.79), and restarted, but the audio continues disabled unless an earphone is connected.

I first upgraded to Windows 10 and installed the Realtek audio drivers. Then, I performed did a clean install and installed the Realtek audio driver again, but audio is still disabled. When I open the Realtek Audio Manager in Control Panel, only the microphone tab appears. When I plug an earphone, the speaker/earphone tab is visible as it should be, disappearing after I unplug it.

I reinstalled Windows 8.1 in his system hoping to have audio working again, but the problem persists. I've tried installing the Realtek HD Audio driver from Dell supporte page for my product (entering the service tag to be 100% sure), but no luck. Windows troubleshooting is useless as usual, only asking me to plug in an earphone, like I didn't know it. I even upgraded Dell BIOS/UEFI firmware to latest version (A07), but it didn't fix anything.

Info:
System: Dell Optiplex 3011 All-in-One
OS: Windows 10 Home Single Language
Realtek version: R.279
