I have a default printer which is a network printer for 99% of my printing. However, I do use a local printer when printing checks.
I have the default set to the network printer and that is what I have set for the past several years through Windows 7 and now with my Windows 10 setup.
Since the latest November update, my computer keeps changing the default printer back to my local printer for no apparent reason and without notice. So when I go to print something, if I don't take care to check, I send it to print on my checks.

I recently upgraded one of our Windows 7 Pro computers to Windows 10 Pro. The computer has several printers attached to it. One HP networked printer and two Zebra label printers that are local via USB. Both of the local label printers are being shared through the computer so that others on the local network can use them as well.
The issue I am having since the upgrade is that when any of the other users on the network prints to one of the label printers, it changes the default printer on the hosting computer to that label printer. I can manually change the default printer on that computer back to the networked HP, but the next time some other user prints to one of the shared label printers, the default printer on the hosting computer switches the default back to that label printer.
I already turned off the Windows 10 option to manage the default printers. I've updated just about every driver I can think of, reinstalled printers, un-shared/re-shared the label printers, ran Windows updates, etc.

The issue is I have a network printer selected as the default in Windows 10. I have the option "Let Windows manage my default printer" turned off. At one point randomly, the default printer goes back to the Adobe PDF as the default.
Steps taken:
* I have checked the registry settings to ensure that the options "let Windows manage my default printer" is switched off. I can confirm this.
* Switched the default printer back to the network printer and performed a reboot. The network printer remains as the default. At some point of the day it goes back to Adobe PDF.

This is a new behavior over the past few days - the default printer becomes unchecked, leaving me unable to print. Happens with or without a reboot. This would be relatively easy to fix each time, except that the Devices & Printers page takes 30-60 seconds to open

i have an older lexmark monochrome laser printer. it was working fine until the most recent win 10 upgrade, now i can no longer install it as the default printer or print to it. I have removed the printer and reinstalled it. I have updated the drivers. I can see the printer in the devices list. I cannot set it as default printer. The manufacturer say it is compatible with win 10 but I cannot print to it. I would like to be able to use it as my default printer and only go to my injet when I need color copies.

We're having a problem with setting a default printer in OO. Every time we select a printer; after the program is shutdown and starts up again it reverts to the XPS Writer as default. I've already unchecked the box that loads the printer settings per document, to no avail. We had this problem in 4.1.1 and still experience it in 4.1.2.
Note: I do not experience this on other OS's (Win7 & 8)

It seems the default font on this WIndows is Arial and it's really ugly, especially when reading an entire page in Chrome or in any other browser. Tried to change the font in all browsers- no result. It can change only the size- Arial still there. It bugs me that it's everywhere, even in games. This compact font in games is really annoying and made me quite after playing a few minutes. I have no problems with overlapping or unreadable font problems I've read on this forum.

I'm using an english windows 10 with hungarian keyboard. Not even complicated, right? My location is set to Slovakia and my problem is that the date on my lock screen is in slovak and if I install anything with "use my default language" language option it's installed in slovak. My question is: Is there any way to change the default language without changing my location?

I have Windows 10 64-bit, I did a clean install on a new build (SSD). I would use the Windows "move" application feature and the default download location option but Microsoft greyed out the option on the final release of Windows and nobody knows when the feature will be back.
So should I change this stuff in regedit, using this method* or what should I do?

In Windows 7 I could specify the start folder for Explorer by entering its path in the Target field of the Properties/Shortcut. This is now not possible as this filed is now grey (= read only) and cannot be modified.

When I use the Microsoft print to pdf printer in Win 10, it gives the file a name and saves it to My Documents. How do I change the save to location to my desktop? Can I name the file myself rather than accept the name win 10 thinks it should be?

I have used the usual route to changing a default icon in "Properties" for internet shortcut(s). However, changing one file icon strangely does not change all the rest. Is this a bug? Is there a workround?

I have moved from FreeBSD to Win 10. The glaring white of the aforementioned objects is really painful to my old eyes. I cannot find references on Google about how to change this. After upgrade from 7 to 10 my 2 brother printers were visible and apparently ready. The HL2270DW would not print - just spooled forever but the MFCJ825DW worked. I tried using the Brother uninstall tool to remove the laser driver then installed the W8.1 package for it. Would not install. So I wondered if the other printer was to blame and removed it as well and re-installed. I have done this many times now getting progressively more thorough including removing all mentions of Brother drivers using Devices and Printers interface, uninstalling in Device Manager installing in a different order and as administrator, removing folders left over etc. The result is always the same. I can get one of them installed but attempting to print gives the error Driver not installed - do you want to install? Click through, install via windows process but it fails anyway.

I am having a problem whereby my default browser keeps changing from IE11 back to either Edge or blank. Why this might be happening or what program is causing it to change? I thought it maybe the Windows Auto Update that keep changing but am now not so sure of that since the last recorded update is back on 14th January and my default Browser got changed again last evening.
The only other programs that run regularly are Norton Internet Security and Norton Utilities. However, I have been through the settings of both of those programs and cannot detect anything that would indicate that they change the default Browser.
Also, in IE11 under the advanced tab I have ticked the option the "Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser" and yet (a) I do not get a notification and (b) the default browser keeps getting changed.

My problem is that I set Media Player Classic for MP4, MPG, AVI, MKV and other formats and Windows Photo Viewer for JPG, PNG etc. The next day for some unknown reason I see these associated with Windows Video and Photo app instead! I right-slick on a MP4 files, select Open with->Choose Default app and set Windows Media Player Classic again for the millionth time. The next day I see the MP4 files associated with build-in Windows Video app!
I usually leave my computer running with the monitor switched off when in work (so I can access it via TeamViewer), rarely restart, if that matters. For other details see my specs.

I installed windows 10 using the iso option of media creation tool. I did a clean install of it. It worked fine till the time I noticed that the graphics were not installed. So I downloaded drivers for my nvidia 7025 nforce 630a (309.08-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql.exe). But when I tried to install it, after some time, the display went blank and i got an "Out Of Range error". I encountered this error in the past, so I tried to boot the system in "low-resolution mode" and then fix it. But Low Resolution mode gives me same error. Need installing the driver correctly, as the performance of the system is damn slow (as it is using microsoft's basic video driver).

HP 1512 all in one printer only has a usb connection (not wireless) It was connected and worked in Win 7 but would not work in Win 10. Win 10 does not recognize the connection during installation.
I followed the directions in the printer support, disconnected and reconnected, uninstalled and reinstalled, got HP to connect to my computer, and worked on it for 2 days. Now I have no Printer Support files (HP Techs deleted too much?)

After I installed windows 10 my printer won't print. It shoots out the paper but it is blank. I checked and all the drivers are up too date. I use a Canon MX860 All in one. It worked fine on Vista, 7 & 8.

I have no printer notification when I'm printing. In the control panel -> devices and printer -> printerserver properties these are enabled. I have no hiden icons in the taskbar. I tried in the windows registry the setting from windows 7:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERPrintersSettingsEnableBalloonNotificationsRemote and HKEY_CURRENT_USERPrintersSettingsEnableBalloonNotificationsLocal.
But this also don't work. I'm printing to and HP Deskjet 895 CXI on an WIndows Home Server 2011. On my Windows 7 Pro machine the notification is present.

I was trying to add a printer and I had the message that the printer spooler don't work! I tried 3 different ways manually via command prompt and via windows devices system and force start automatically but nothing. it cant start.
