Drivers/Hardware :: External USB3 Plugged In At Shutdown Equals Restart
Nov 24, 2015
If I leave Western Digital My Book plugged into a usb3 port at shut down there will be a restart in a few seconds.
This has been the action through both versions of Win10. (Currently on the 2nd version as of Nov.20) At this time the only items that allow restart are mouse, keyboard and network adapter Fast Start is turned off An extra usb3 board was installed during the first Win10 but two usb3 items cannot be inserted side by side.
One will read as a usb2 if two are inserted into the new 2 ports in the rear. This My Book now is the only item plugged into that back USB3 port. The drivers for usb3 appear to be current according to the mfg site. When this external is ejected then the computer shuts down. On Win7 pro this external could be left plugged in all the time.
Is a line of attack to remove this new usb (2 on front, 2 on back) and start over with another?

Recently I've changed my Mobo, CPU and RAM. Installed Windows 8 Pro Retail and upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. Worked perfectly and no problems
But I've noticed that if I need to restart the system I will get the usual Blue screen saying "Restarting", this will then goto a Black screen.
Nothing happens after the black screen, I never see my BIOS image or any text whatsoever (Which I usually see on a normal boot). IF I then press and hold the power button to force shutdown the computer and then press it again it will perform a normal boot, I see the BIOS Image etc.

Basically i lost everything on my external HDD & the only way to get the drive working again was to format it, That fixed the problem the drive was having (Unknown why data got lost) but if i disconnect the drive & reconnect i get message (the drive is inaccessible & corrupted) Something like that cant remember the wording exactly as its not happening right now, but i know the problem will come back & i will once again lose all my data, as its happened 5 times over 2 week period..
If i restart the PC, after startup its the only drive that's not visible either in (This PC), (Disk Management) or in (Device Manager) which leaves me with no option but to disconnect & reconnect the drive in order for it to be visible & Accessible, Now sometimes it works fine but once it becomes inaccessible it stays that way unless i format it Losing all data once again ...
Relevant Information of Drive
3 Years old
On 24/7 (As i never turn PC Off)
Its a Iomega eGo 1Tb External HDD
I Used software Hard Disk Sentinel & it says the drive is Healthy & in good working Condition

I set my screen to turn off after ten minutes but it doesn't shut off. Today I read somewhere that it could be because I have a USB hub plugged in. Sure enough I unplugged the Hub and my screen shuts down as I have set it up to do. I need what is plugged into my hub and it is a real hassle to reboot my machine when I plug the Hub back in. I have also noticed one more thing and that is that programs that run in the back ground for instance Seti @ Home slows way down since the screen stays on.

I have a laptop with 1 USB3 socket and 2 USB2 sockets. The USB3 socket is also a "charging" usb socket.
Now if I plug a USB3 HDD (Toshiba) into a USB2 socket where I've connected a powered USB2 hub I'm getting copy speeds of around 76 mb/s. The same HDD plugged into the USB3 socket is only giving me speeds of around 30 mb/sec. I'm copying the same file from an internal SSD.
So far I haven't seen any advantage in using the USB3 socket over a USB2 powered hub -- is this W10 not having proper USB3 support yet.

When I plug a USB3 flash drive into either USB3 port the message is Windows does not recognize it.
If I plug the same drive into another computer USB3 port everything is fine.
If I partially plug the drive in so that it only hits the USB2 contacts it works fine.
If I plug it into a USB2 port it works fine.
The drivers are installed. I uninstalled them and let it reinstall - same thing.

Okay so I've upgraded and use windows 10 for about 2 weeks now. All is fine until I've experienced this random shutdown where the computer turns off completely in a splitsecond then reboots itself. No BSODs, no warnings at all. Recently, it's been shutting itself down and reboots itself but won't even make it to the login screen before it shuts itself down again and this will continue in a loop. I had to turn off the plug and turn it back on. It will prompt a system restore which the computer will work fine for a while after the system restore. I assume this problem is because of windows 10 because I have not experienced this problem when I was using windows 8.1.
My Specs:
Intel Core i5-4590 3.3Ghz
Kingston HyperX 8GB 2x
ZOTAC Geforece GTX970
Samsung 840EVO SSD 256GB (Boot drive)
WD Caviar Blue 1TB

URL...In control panel under windows update I click "view update history",URL...I'm assuming it has to do with my previous problem in the previous post, another problem might have been that I shut down during a restart for an update because my computer sometimes has problems starting up so I have to unplug my desktop and plug it back in for it to work. (when it restarts it says overclocking failed thought I don't overclock so I enter and exit the BIOS to get back to normal)

have a problem with usb drivers according to my control panel which says it is fixing the issue and then tells me to reboot but it is not fixed. Keyboard lights up on start but when the first blue window appears it goes off. I can get into the bios ok and the keyboard works there. only one port is working (USB3). as my mouse and keyboard are usb and there is no PS2 port i am kinda cactus at the moment. Been searching for usb drivers for win 10 but not having any luck. Everything was working fine since November until yesterday.

Noticed that after an update from Windows Update you "Must" do a Reboot for the installation/update to process. In prior versions of Windows when I would take an update, I might just wait until I shut the PC down for the night, and it would finish up in the morning upon startup. In Windows 10 that no longer works (for me) it MUST be a Reboot for it to process...

Here's some background; for the first few days Windows 10 was fine, no problems what so ever but then it I was just listening to music browsing the web, no games or any cpu/ram intensive stuff running and all of a sudden my music stops and then I get taken straight to my bios screen as my PC just restarts out of nowhere. As it is starting up however it shows the black screen with the Windows logo in the middle and the loading circles spinning round, then it shows a black screen and I hear the sound of Windows starting up, wait a few seconds and it says "Configuring updates" or "Configuring Windows" (can't quite remember) Anyway, as it comes back on it I get a little notification saying Windows updates were installed. Then 5 or so mintues later it does it again. Either it's coincidence or it has something to do with it but for a few hours when I was playing GTA V nothing happened for the rest of that time of my PC being loaded.
Again, I was watching an MP4 (I use VLC Player if that has anything to do with it) and it blue screens out of nowhere (I can't remember the exact reason but I've uploaded the crash dumps here [URL] .... ) dunno if the blue screen has anything to do with the random crashing
TL;DR: Windows 10 keeps randomly turning itself off without warning, sometimes going straight to the bios screen and loading back up sometimes just completely off and requires me to turn it back on.

I installed W10. This problem appears to be random and happens a couple of time a month. It is really annoying. What happens is, the WiFi appears to stop working. It can't find any available networks and won't reconnect no matter what I do. I have even tried closing/restarting explorer but that does nothing.
If I try to shut-down or restart my computer, it just hangs on the shut-down/restart screen. I have to hold down the power button to get my computer to shut-down. The weird thing is, after a restart, it works fine ...for a few weeks. It just seems very strange.
I use a WiFi dongle. I have a couple of them so I tried each one - they all eventually give me the same result . I have a HP if that works.

Every time I try to put put my laptop to sleep, hibernate, restart it or shutdown, it stalls for about 10 minutes before giving me a Driver Power State Failure.
Having installed "WhoCrashed" and "Windbg", I was able to determine it was related to "ntkrnlmp.exe", "ndis.sys", "raspppoe.sys" and a vpn driver at one point or another. I "believe" I managed to uninstall the offending vpn driver but of course still overall have the same issue.
This appeared to occur while trying to do a windows update last week but I can't be sure. I presume, there is a out of date or corrupt driver but just can't seem to determine which one.

ever since I purchased a new computer this summer I have had the problem with using my speakers, my HDMI and headphone(Corsair Gaming H2100 Headset) sound is working flawlessly. When I bought it it had Windows 8 installed and I had the exact same problem then. I have both Realtek HD audio and NVIDIA HD audio installed, and I have tried to use both independently with the same result, this has been bugging me for months and I truly do not know what to do.
Edit: the speakers worked without any problems until I got the new computer.

I've had this HP Envy for years and today my battery won't charge. I'm plugged in, so it's not dying, but my battery is at 1% and the battery status mouseover says "1% available (plugged in, not charging)". I've tried all the search results for this problem, including going into Device Manager and uninstalling the battery driver then scanning for updates, but it's still not charging. I even went into Command Prompt and tried sfc /scannow but it didn't change anything.

I am running Windows 10 on my Lenovo Flex 3 15.
My problem seems a little complicated so I'll go step by step what happens:
1. I plug in a USB device to use it (like a flash drive or a printer)
2. Windows makes the "device recognized" sound
3. Nothing happens, so I go to device manager to see if the device is actually working. It's listed under "other devices" and it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). There are no compatible drivers for this device."
4. I reboot my computer WITH THE USB DEVICE PLUGGED IN and all of a sudden and without explanation the device manager recognizes the device and its driver and I can use.
5. I unplug the device and plug it back in and it goes back to step 2.
6. Also, when I click "update drivers" it cannot find them automatically and when I search for the driver manually it just gives me an error saying it did not install successfully.
This is such a frustrating problem because it means I have to reboot every time I need to use a printer or a flash drive. I also have tried everything I can think of: uninstalling every last trace of the driver and trying to let it install freshly on its own; checking the status of Plug and Play; etc.

I installed Windows 10 one week ago, but I still have issues with the sleep mode. I configured the laptop, that whenever I close the lid or I use my function key the sleep mode is started.
Unfortunately the laptop is either not entering the sleep mode correctly or is not able to restore it. Which means when I open several programs they won't open again.
If have an ASUS Transformer Book Flip TP500LA:
Intel i3 4030
4 GB Ram
240 GB SSD
I tried the following so far: BIOS Update to the newest version 203Downgrade the Intel MEI driver to an older oneReinstall the graphic and touchpad driver Nothing of that was successful. Are there any logfiles to analyse?

Since I put vmWare 10 on my laptop , my external HDD wont initialize. it says its there but when i try to initialize it tells me my drive is too small for GPT, Its 500gb. When I installed VMWare i might have had the external connected and i believe i opted for to split partitions into 8 parts. I have some data and files on the drive that i need but once i take them off i will just format it. So how can i initialize the drive and/or get my data and store it some where safe? I am running windows 10 BTW
