Drivers/Hardware :: How To Disable IR On Laptop
Feb 10, 2016
I have an issue with playing games on Windows 10. Many video games bind the console key to "tilde" or "~" key but my laptop has something called an IR device (or something like that) that is preventing me from using the tilde key when gaming. My Alienware R1 works fine but my new R3 is giving me trouble with this.
I cannot find anything called an IR device in the device manager, much less find where to disable it.

In June a friend bought a Lenovo Z50-70 laptop running Win 8.1. He particularly dislikes touchpads so uses a mouse. In 8.1 I was able to disable the touchpad for him, via Device Manager. He's now updated to Win 10 and the touchpad has come back to life. I've been trying to disable it again, so far without success.
In "Settings", the only option under touchpad is to alter the delay on using "click". I went to Control Panel.
In "Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices" there are only two options, "HID-compliant mouse" (which has a disable option) and "Lenovo Pointing Device", which I assume refers to the touch pad (is this assumption right?) and which can be uninstalled but has no "disable" option.
In "Device Manager > Human Interface Devices" amongst other things there are two entries both named "HID-compliant vendor-defined device". Both can potentially be disabled, but without further knowledge I'm disinclined to disable them in case I inadvertently disable the mouse in the process.

I have been having a problem with disabling the touchscreen in my windows 10 laptop. At one point, my laptop fell on cement. Luckily no hardware was damaged except for the screen's glass, losing its touchscreen capability. The problem is that the screen keeps recording false touches, making it difficult to get work done. I took the liberty of disabling the screen on Device Manager, however, after a few boots, the touch screen was somehow re enabled. I tried uninstalling the device, but it is built into the windows operating system and would simple be re enabled at the next boot. Is there any way to keep windows from recognizing the touchscreen without physically removing the touchscreen?

I just recently got the Windows 10 update from Windows 8, and found that changing my settings doesn't seem to work like it should.
The best example of this that I can find is that even when I disable PalmCheck in this window:
and save the settings, I still won't be able to move the mouse while typing at all.

I do not like the touch pad. When I had Windows 8.1, I simply disabled it. But Windows 10 has a mind of it's own. I go into settings for touch pad and put a check mark where it says "disable touch pad". But as soon as I restart, the touch is enabled. I go where I put the check mark and it's gone--Windows just un-checked it. There are a couple of places where I can disable it, but upon restarting it goes back to where it was. I even went in Device Manager and disabled it there, but the same thing happens.

I recently updated/upgraded my Windows 8 laptop to Windows 10 operating system. I would like to know how to disable the tap-to-click touch-pad feature in Windows 10. It was easy to do on 8, but after searching through the settings on 10 I am unable to locate that setting.

Microsoft has made it mandatory for Windows 10 users to update their computers. From what I understand, they have set the new operating system to automatically receive new updates by default. I also heard from a colleague that Microsoft recently released a tool that can be used to hide or disable Windows 10 updates selectively.

I understand i have asked this before, but my touchpad still refuses to disable. i have tried 5 different versions of the synaptics driver, and i believe im currently running on the best version (according to my laptop). If I go to control panel and disable it from there its still no luck. its making me regret my decision to update as it worked perfectly before.

I have a Synaptics touch pad on my HP Envy laptop. Prior to upgrading to Windows 10 if I went to mouse in the control panel there was a checkbox to check to disable the touch pad if a external mouse was detected. This worked fine. Now under Windows 10 I can still check the box to disable the touch pad but the setting does not stick and has to be rechecked after every reboot. Is there a way to get this setting to stick? There is no disable setting in the device manager for the Synaptics touch pad.

I have a HP Pavilion laptop with Synaptics Touchpad V7.5 on a PS/2 port. The driver version is 19.0.12.95.
After installing Windows 10 and updating all of the drivers, I tried playing a game and found that I can't use my keyboard and mouse at the same time, so I turned off PalmCheck and tried to continue- but it still does not work.
I have also tried to go into the Windows 10 version of the setting and set to 'No Delay'.
I've tried to update my drivers but every time it says I already have the best version of the drivers installed.
Here is an image of what my settings have been set as (from another user that hasn't received a reply). But after exiting and pressing apply, it saves the settings but I still can't use the mouse and keyboard at the same time.

I know there are plenty of people who for one reason or another, would rather manually manage their driver updates. So for those of you who aren't aware, it is possible to disable Windows 10's automatic driver update feature completely.
First you will need to enter the "System" window. You can get here by right-clicking the start button and selecting "System".Click "Advanced System Settings".Click the "Hardware" tab.Click "Device Installation" settings, and select the "No, let me choose what to do" option, and you'll see the options below.
If you want to manually control it, choose the "Never install drivers from Windows Update" option.

A while back I accidently kicked out the power cord from my laptop which damaged the power connector. It still worked, it charged just fine, but whenever the connector was plugged in, the "power connector is not plugged in properly" warning kept popping up even though the laptop was charging just fine. The other strange thing is that the warning box would be translucent and flickering and I couldn't close it. I could click on another window to send it to the back but couldn't close the warning box except in Task Manager. It would shortly pop up again anyway.
So I finally got the connector replaced thinking that would solve the problem but it didn't. The warning box constantly and randomly pops up while charging making me think that maybe the motherboard suffered some damage too.
Rather than pay to replace the motherboard, is it possible to simply disable this warning? I really don't need to know if the connector is plugged in properly, it's hard not to plug it in properly and if it's not charging I will find out eventually via low power warnings.

This is not exactly win 10 specific question, i had same problem in win 7, but now that i'm on win 10, that problem is still there. Here's what's going on:
I have high-end gaming PC with GTX 980 and 4k monitor and 1080p monitor as secondary.
4k Monitor is connected via DisplayPort and other monitor is using HDMI
Both of those monitors have built-in speakers (actually i don't think 1080p monitor has speakers)
But here's the problem, windows 10 keeps automatically installing HDMI audio drivers and 50% of the time when i boot my system, all my software defaults to the stupid HDMI sound.
This is extremely annoying and i'm about to pull my hair out over this. All my media players default to monitor audio, even tho windows does not select it as "default device".
Also even tho other monitor doesn't have speakers, system still thinks that the monitor has speakers and sets it as audio device.
Also when i record gameplays using shadowplay or other recorder, lot of times there's no audio on videos, because screen recorders also default to that dumb hdmi audio. I can't be bothered to check audio every time i do something.
I really need a way to tell windows 10 to STOP doing that. Here's what i've done so far:
1. under playback devices, i have DISABLED both of the monitors as playback devices.
2. I have tried uninstalling + disabling drivers for both monitors in "device manager"
3. i used local group policy to force windows not to install drivers (gpedit.msc > administrative templates > system > device installation), then i grabbed the group ID from device manager and entered it there to prevent windows from installing drivers for any audio groups.
After step 3, drivers were not installed, but windows still shows both monitors in "playback devices", only difference is that in device manager it says that this device does not have drivers installed, but they're still showing up in "playback devices", therefore all my software is STILL able to use them as playback and some of my software, like winamp, still defaults to them.
Forgot to mention, that if I disable both of them in playback devices, windows automatically re-enables them at some point. probably at boot, but i can't be bothered to check every few seconds, i just want windows to STOP trying to tell me what's best, i like my Asus STRIX 7.1 headset + 7.1 Hi-Fi home theater speaker system, i don't need some tiny jurassic stereo speakers lol.
I want to punch whoever made this feature. I mean .. what kind of an caveman would buy high-end gaming PC with GTX 980 + 4k monitor and NOT have a proper sound card + headset? Did those low-brainers in microsoft seriously think that anyone using high-end gaming PC, would like to use HDMI as primary audio? that's just ridiculous!
I think my only option is to force windows to think that i'm not using HDMI so it won't even detect my monitors as audio devices, is that possible.

Prior to installing Windows 10, I would disable the touchpad on my PC (hate it!) by going to Settings - Mouse Properties - ELAN - Stop Device. Since installing Windows 10, the ELAN device does not show up under devices and I cannot disable.

So this is my 14th or 15th time attempting to disable the driver signature enforcement so I can use motioninjoy to install my PS3 Controller driver to use for Rocket League. However, every time I run advanced startup, the process goes rather slowly before loading up my options. No worries at that point, but when I finally end up at the screen that has the options f1-f9, f7 being the disable driver enforcement, my computer immediately shuts off immediately after loading all of the options. Why it just shuts off... sometimes it shuts off just before it loads all of the options, but I have never been able to disable the driver signature enforcement thus far.

Recently I was notified that a driver installation failed. I went and checked it out, and it was a driver for HD 4600 graphics. My old system ran an i7-4790K, and when I upgraded to X99 I did not reimage my SSD.
Is there a way I can remove an update from Windows Update? The CPU I have has no iGPU, let alone HD 4600.

I have purchased two licenses of Windows 10 Pro x64. Everything works fine, except for one disturbing elements.
I have an unsigned driver to a program that I use every day, so I have to boot in the "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" mode every time, for the program to work. Yes, I have activated the old fashioned F8 boot menu, which is disabled by default in Windows 10. This is no problem, but it seems impossible to get Windows 10 to boot in this mode as standard.
In Windows 7 I solved it easily with the programs "Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider" or "ReadyDriver Plus", but none of these programs seem to work in Windows 10.
So my question is simply, how do I configure Windows 10 so that my computer will boot in the "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" mode PERMANENTLY? Alternatively, configure the boot setting so that the boot menu (F8) appears by default every time I boot, so I don't always need to be prepared to throw myself on the F8 key at every startup.

I activated the ctrl alt disable login screen for Windows 10 by using this registry key from this forum.(Lock Screen - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums).
I downloaded and installed the key to disable only to find it didn't work so I tried to manually do it by changing the number from 0 to 1 only to find its already at 1.
I also tried going the user passwords2 to find the box to disable ctrl alt disable login is already ticked, but is greyed out meaning I can't untick the box.

I am having an issue on my Inspiron 15 where my cooling fan doesnt always start up. For example, ill start up the laptop, and start web browsing or playing a game, and the fan will never turn on. I have had it overheat and shut off a few times. But if i restart the laptop manually (start>power>restart), it will spin up automatically as it should. But then after a few more restarts, i will have a session where the fan will never turn on. Right now my only solution, besides a restart, is to use the program Speedfan, and ramp the fans to 100%. My other Inspiron 15, running a Broadwell i7 and Windows 10, has no issues at all.
