Jan 13, 2016On my laptop I have a 1 TB HDD and on that drive the usable space was formatted into 2 separate partitions. This doesn't work well for me and I would prefer to have just one partition with all of the usable space. So I've tried everything I can think of and for some reason I just can't get the partitions to merge or even delete the secondary partition and expand the one I want to use. I have some pictures below to show what's going on.
This one shows the two partitions that I want merged.
This next one shows that I cannot extend the partition even if the other partition was deleted and is unpartitioned space
This last one shows that even with a 3rd party software I get the same result as EaseUS Partition Master doesn't give me the option to merge or move/re-size the partition
So at this point I'm stumped and I don't understand why this won't work as I've done the same thing with many other computers easily in disk management.
Drivers/Hardware :: Clean Installation Created Partitions With Drive Letters?
Oct 27, 2015I clean installed Win 10 RTM version on my laptop a few weeks ago. I have a basic GPT setup.
Installation went fine, however the installer created a 'Recovery' drive (D with a size of 600 MB (262 MB free) & a 'Local Disk' drive (E with a size of 451 MB (128 MB free).
I am stumped as to why it assigned letters to them. If you see the attachment of a snapshot of Partition Wizard, you will be able to see the setup.
My question, besides why the assigned letters is the where the status is listed as 'None'. Is it safe to delete these?? I am assuming that the only partitions i need to keep are the 'ESP', which is 'Active & Boot' - so it is needed to be able to boot into Windows. How about the one listed as 'Other' - the capacity is 128 MB & all 128 MB are used - do i save this one as well?
I really wanted a less cluttered setup - so when all these partitions were created, particularly 'D' & 'E', i was perplexed as to why they were created.

Manually Created Folders On C Drive Are Read-only
Aug 11, 2015I was just creating a folder on my C drive (SSD) when I noticed that the attribute is set to read-only. I've tried clearing the attribute many ways using the link below but to no avail. Right-clicking on the folder does not show the option to Take Ownership. how to correct it?

Aug 20, 2015Got caught by this sneaky Windows 10 downloading to my laptop. This download created a new partition on my harddrive as a protected system drive. I have tried to take ownership of this new partition with no success, I have tried to restore to a previous date with no success - it fails. How I can remove this partition from my hdd?

Nov 15, 2015OK so I received the update on my clean install of win 10 on my split Intel NVME SSD. Just went to do a Macrium image backup and discovered that the update has created an extra partition on my drive. Although small it is stealing space from my second partition that I save the backups to. I also have some extra files on C: as shown.
To regain space what files can I delete? Can I restore the extra partition without damaging windows. Do I need to include the extra small partition with C: for a Macrium backup to be able to restore if anything gets screwed? I was expecting the update to just update the C:/ drive.

Jun 15, 2015Getting ready to move from Win 7-64 to Win 10-64 when 10 is available next month. It's my understanding that Win 10 will not install over Win 7 so I'd like to install a new 250Gb SSD (I currently have Win 7 on a 128Gb SSD as C: ) for a clean install on it. Once all my files & software are transferred I'll keep the current 128Gb SSD as an extra drive.
So, are all SSD Hard Drives created equal? I'm looking at NewEgg & the prices are all over the place. My current SSD is a Cruicial 128Gb which has worked 4 yrs flawlessly.

Dec 25, 2015Somehow unintentionally I created a dynamic disk partition on what was my boot drive but is now intended to be my documents and pictures folder drive.
How do I get rid of the first dynamic partition and change it to a normal partition to store my 'Documents" & "Pictures" folders for the new Win 10 Pro drive C:

Oct 10, 2015So my C: Drive has been acting up lately, with barely enough space to stay alive. I tried to take some space off the D: Drive, which has 240 GB of unused space, and add it to the C: Drive using Disk Management. But when I shrink the D: Drive and Right Click on C: Drive the Extend Volume button is Greyed Out! I think this is happening because the Free Space is not adjacent to the C: Drive.

Nov 18, 2015What the heck is going on with the volume in Windows 10? Randomly, after unpausing the sound, the sound will be incredibly loud. As soon as I adjust the volume (even just pressing the sound increase or decrease button once) the sound volume goes back to being as loud as it should be. It is extremely frustrating when I pause and unpause and then cant hear because I am now deaf.

Sep 13, 2015The problem is that the volume of different sources of sound, for example YouTube, gets reduced if I turn another difference source of sound, for example League of Legends. So, once I play League of Legends, my YouTube music gets reduced. If I first run League and THEN YouTube, then YouTube gets reduced, if I first press PLAY on YT and then go to League, my League volume gets reduced.
I don't know what the hell is going on and I hate it. I have Windows 10 Pro and I have tried the "Do Nothing" option at sound settings. I have checked out every single tab on sound settings and nothing works.
This problem started once I installed W10, it worked fine on W7.

Sep 28, 2015For the first time I used headphones in Windows 10 Pro, and I found the normal Fn-F6 and Fn-F7 that adjust speaker volume do not work to adjust headphone volume - nor does the slider in the task tray. I can go into Control Panel and find the speakers and adjust them, and they are set as default. But it seems to me that in past versions (I came from Windows 7) when headphones were plugged in, the audio slider in task bar adjusted them - when headphones were not plugged in, it adjusted speaker volume. Do I have to go into Control Panel every time I want to tweak headphone volume? What am I missing?

Some days its there and its fine but other days I cant seem to locate it and going in and manually disabling it and re-enabling it does nothing. Sep 20, 2015The microphone on the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 is quite loud and sensitive, so I decrease the input volume by 30% in the recording devices menu, but regardless of disallowing access to it from other programs e.g. Skype, it always seems to change back up to 91% after awhile. I'll attach screenshots of the settings I've changed in Skype/recording devices. How would I completely prevent the volume readjusting itself?
