When I use the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon/tool, to remove a USB stick, my internal SSD drive shows as a choice to be removed. How can I get the SSD off this list?
In Device Manager, under Disk Drives, looking at the SSD drive's properties there is no "Removal Policy (i.e. choice of "Quick Removal" or "Better Performance") like the removable hard drive on my laptop has.
There is no drive assigned. I wonder what it refers to? I've checked the registry but can't figure it out. How would I remove it?
View 1 RepliesYesterday I went from Windows 7 to windows 10 with a clean install.
My system based on an ASUS P9x79Pro motherboard has 4 internal disk drives.
The first two, a 500GB SSD for the system and a 2TB spinning disk, are connected to Intel SATA 6G ports and are fine.
I also have two further 2TB data drives attached to the Marvell SATA 6G ports. It is these that are looking unusual.
After installing windows I installed the Marvell driver from the ASUS website for windows 10. However Device manager does not show Marvell under Storage controllers
Both data drives connected to the Marvel controller appear under eject media as removable drives along with something called "Eject Marvell 91xx config"...
One of the data drives (but not the other) appears in File Explorer as a removable drive.
When I insert any removable drive (USB, SD cards, etc) the device shows up twice in Explorer. Once under "This PC" tree and the other as a device. See attached pic (USB Drive H):
I remember hearing about this being the way it's designed to work, but frankly it's a bit silly - I only need to see a single entry for the drive/device...
Is there any way to get rid of one of these entries without stuffing up some other Explorer feature?
I have an Epsom A810 printer, connected to desktop PC by USB.
The printer has a USB port for loading pictures to the printer from a thumb drive. Thing is, this port makes the printer show up in Disk Management and My PC as a removable drive.
But it is not a drive at all. I can't access the files on the thumb drive through the printer, so it functions as a phantom drive.
Any method to stop Windows from recognizing the printer as a removable drive?
There is an icon in my tray to "Safely remove hardware and eject media". It is always there (even when no USB devices are plugged in) because Windows thinks my second internal SSD is removable.Is there a config setting or a registry edit to fix that?
View 6 Repliesmy cd drive icon was showing and working then stopped showing up. I did as much research as I could and purchased AVG driver updater and it worked for a few days and won't work again.
View 1 RepliesWhen the computer goes to sleep, it accesses the DVD drive (for some reason). It then makes a noise for a second or two, which is pretty annoying. It has no reason to even mess with the DVD drive. I think it is trying to see if there is a disk in there or something (maybe so it knows what to do when it wakes?)
View 5 RepliesI recently upgraded from Windows 8 to 10. Post upgrade I have just realized my DVD Drive is not observable/findable in the File manager. It is also not observable in the device manager.
It is however, powered up and is recognized in the BIOS Menu as Sata 4 and recognized by the computer as Boot Device one.
The computer will boot from the DvD Drive if I put a bootable DVD (my old windows 8.1 disc in this case) in the drive, I just tested this.
I have a Seagate 1 terabyte external hdd and windows 10 cant see it.. even when I go to C: drive
and display all drives its not showing. its installed drivers but still cant find it....
I have a DELL-XPS13 Laptop. After upgrading it from win8 to win10, i noticed a restore partition is getting showed up in explorer as Z drive.
When I open Disk Management, i do not see this Z drive assignment to the drive.
I do not know how I can hide this drive.
I have an external hard drive that I have used regularly with a Windows 7 machine via esata
that does not show up when plugged into my Windows 10 notebook via USB.
I can see it under the disk management, but there is no drive letter assigned so I cannot access it.
ive noticed lately that the information for hard drivers is totally incorrect, all firmware for drives is up to date, mobo bios is latest but drive info is sque wiff.
View 3 RepliesI've just added a 2nd HD to my Dell system with Win 10. It shows in the BIOS and Seagate tools finds it. It does not show up in Device manager or Computer Management/Storage - Disc Management or anywhere. Not sure if this si Won 10 specific.

I use 2 SSD's and 1 internal HDD.
Issue 1: My internal 2TB HDD is displayed in Device Manager as Portable Devices. This HDD hosts my User's Folders.
Issue 2: I have an external HDD which is a USB3.0 compatible. When it's connected to a USB3.0 port, the LED on the HDD is blue, and if it's USB2.0 the LED is white.
When I wake up the PC from Sleep mode, the HDD doesn't return to USB3.0 status, instead it's LED is white. Unplugging and re-plugging, won't work. I'll have to reboot the PC to get it back to USB3.0

I just completed an update installation on a desktop PC running Windows 7. Now my hard drives show up as removable drives.
Normally this is due to the need to install an AHCI driver. And that is normally the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for Intel chipsets. The driver was installed in Windows 7.
Is this a case where I need to manually install a new IRST Driver for Windows 10? If so, should I uninstall the existing first, or will the new one overwrite the old?
When I sleep or lock my computer and then wake it up the start menu is always open.
View 7 RepliesInstalled win 10 with no problems and it has been running successfully for a good while. Recently I have had some booting problems, not all the time but every so often the boot sits there with a black screen showing ACER and nothing happens. If you sit long enough it will boot with no other problems. I tried looking at the boot section and switched it to normal as it was on something else which I cannot remember.
View 5 RepliesI am trying to set up our server which we have on my sisters new laptop. when I go to 'map network drive' and click 'browse' the server called 'BGE-B-NAS' doesn't appear on the list. I have tried multiple times and nothing seems to be working. I also tried to type it in manually but it just said that 'windows cannot access BGE-B-NASCompanydata'. Is it to do with the fact that this is a laptop and it is using the wifi instead of being wired?
View 1 RepliesWhy can Microsoft understand I don't want to use these POS Realtek drivers. I use to disable driver updates from Windows 10 by going into Device Installation settings and Never install drivers from Windows update but now since the last stupid update everytime the POS Realtek drives install automatically no matter how many times I roll back and remove them. I hate the Realtek drives because the audio is super loud and sounds terrible. I just want to use the Microsoft HD Audio Driver which sounds great and uses little resources but no Windows 10 decides that the POS Realtek driver is better.
View 7 RepliesJust like the title says, I don't want the realtek audio drivers as it completely messes with my audio and also doesn't correctly switch when i plug in headphones for example.
It also doesn't allow for the 'speaker fill' enhancement to be used when playing stereo content through surround sound.
Windows itself does a far better job as opposed to realtek.
Every time i uninstall realtek it automatically gets reinstalled.
I just bought a new hard drive from best buy, its a western digital Blue 500gb hard drive, the old one was failing and causing windows to run slow so I bought this one to fix it. When I try to install the new OS into the blank hard disk it doesnt show up on the list, nothing does.
View 4 RepliesMy new windows 10 only sees my PC - when searching for my files in Explorer, it cannot 'see' my two external drives when I plug them in. I've looked in Device Manager and they are not showing in there either. How can I tell Win 10 to access my external drives?
I thought Win 10 would automatically spot my external drivers the moment I plugged them in? Then it would go search for and install the appropriate drivers - but it isn't doing that..
Basically my story is, my previous laptop had a motherboard failure and I had some things on the hard drive that I wanted to recover. So I purchased a new laptop, put a ssd in it, installed windows 10, then I had a hard drive caddy lying about so I took out the optical drive of the laptop and installed the hard drive from my previous laptop with the assumption that I just take ownership of the drive and drag my stuff across to the (C: ) .
But after installing the hard drive successfully, it's now showing as the (E: ) it doesn't have all the files on it from my previous setup, instead it has the exact same files as the (C: ) . It's like whatever happened windows deleted the files and replaced them with the exact same files as the (C: ) ?I have a wordpress website on that drive that I really need to recover but absolutely no sign of any files from my previous windows 10 setup.
I am having to use a windwos 8.1 AMD graphics driver because the AMD HD6320 series graphics still has no updated driver from AMD to support windows 10. The video freezes and goes green with the HD6320 driver. The win 8.1 driver works great except windows 10 keep updating and reinstalling the standard driver for the HD6320. I haven't found a way to hide an update in windows 10 like I could in windows 7.
View 9 RepliesI installed windows 10 on my laptop yesterday! My gpu needs reflowing and now doesn't work so I shouldn't download and install my gpu drivers... But they are actually downloading right now.
