Drivers/Hardware :: Intermittent Keyboard Non-functioning?
Mar 5, 2016
I use a wireless mouse and keyboard. Every now and then, often enough to be irritating, the keyboard fails to function: the mouse works properly. The keyboard problem persists for a few minutes, after which it works again. There is no discernable pattern to this problem.
The keyboard batteries are not responsible for the failure.
On the same desk is a cordless telephone.

I have updated to Windows 10. After scouring the internet for options, I need to turn to ask the experts. Movies play, songs play... even the system sound previews play when I pick a sound scheme. But under normal computer operation, no system sounds play. The recycling bin, system errors, windows boot and shutdown, and email notification sounds are all silent in regular computer operation. I have performed the two prescribed sound card driver tweaks described online for issues of no sounds working at all.

Following a necessary reset of Win 10 I have no audio at all. When going to IDT High Definition Audio codec in device Manager and initialising reinstall Driver, the driver is found but installation has failed because "a device attached to the system is not functioning". What device?

I successfully upgraded (well not without issues!) to Win10 Pro. I have been having issues where when I click on something the computer just goes into La La Land. Only way I can get out is to do a hard reset or hold down the power button for four seconds. I am not sure what error report to look at to see what is hanging up the system. Initially the machine did not like my old Logitech Trackman Mx trackball unit so I shut down the machine and unplugged it and plugged in a standard USB Microsoft mouse. The issue is still there but not quite as bad. Seems to be related to moving and clicking the mouse.

I have Realtek Audio HD driver for sound installed on windows 10. For about a week, my laptop ran with no problems. However, last night there was no sound output into my headphones. I unplugged my headphones, plugged them in again. Still no sound.
I tried my headphones on different computers and phones and sound worked normally. I then tried a different pair of headphones on my laptop and no sound was coming out. The speaker is still functioning normally.
I have since restarted my laptop multiple times, and each time I restart a message saying that "You have changed your settings in BIOS setup. Would you like to restart your computer to apply these changes?"pops up.
Sometimes, my headphones somehow come to life, and sound is able to be played. However, when this occurs there is a lot of background static noise, although the sound quality itself is very good.

I recently got rid of a cabled keyboard in favor of a smaller bluetooth keyboard (MS Mobile 6000). Everything is great except that now, I have a hard time putting my PC to sleep. In fact, it tends to wake up after 30 seconds or so. I'm pretty sure this is due to the BT keyboard.

I think, in my naivety, I may have clicked on something to cause the malfunction as it did work immediately after download. Have clicked on everything possible to remedy but to no avail.

Autohide is set and applied for the taskbar yet the taskbar always remains on top and blocks items on my desktop. How can I get autohide to actually work?

The taskbar for the last 2 weeks or so has not been working correctly. The Windows 10 start icon does not respond at all, along with the search icon, the speakers icon, the new notifications icon, and the calendar/date. The only icons working are the 'task view' icon and the 'show hidden icons' little arrow icon. The right click menu works on the start icon and the right click menu for the taskbar "properties" box also works, and that is about it. Of course any apps I have added or any default programs already present in the taskbar work also, although since I upgraded to Windows 10, I have noticed it is almost impossible to get a right click menu on an icon in the taskbar; very iffy at best, but mostly just completely non-existent.

However, the same cable connected to my HDD was connected to my SSD. (I fried my HDD due to over voltage) now when I try to watch videos or when I try to listen to music it will all play, but will stop after about 12 seconds and freeze. I have tried restoring windows 10, I checked my Intel SSD with their toolbox software, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers for my Astro A40s and MIXAMP-TR along with the firmware.
I never experienced any of this before the frying of my HDD. So could it be the SSD? Because the HDD was used for only steam games and nothing else. My graphics card is the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970. The SSD is Intel 730 Series 480GB. My HDD was the Seagate ST 1000DM003 1 TB. URL...In playback devices the green bars stay frozen and no audio can be heard. My Internet download speed has also decreased from 70 mbps over LAN to 10 mbps, and I know this is not my ISP because my other devices are still around 70 mbps.

I have always used the hidden administrator account by default since about 10 minutes after I installed windows on my own PC for first time.
It's ridiculous how limited one is without it and I consider it a must-have feature for day-to-day operation within windows - especially true within the freaky, controlling environment of Windows 10.
Anyway... It doesn't work in W10... I can enable it as usual via an elevated command and can log-in to it just fine... but Windows doesn't seem to care either way and constantly asks me to provide administrative permission for silly things like renaming a shortcut... (sigh).
I am also getting far to many "You don't have permission" sort of errors that make me want to throw my PC out of the window.
I believe the account is enabled and I am using it exclusively...

My Windows key on the keyboard is not working. I have run through the sfc scannow and the dism repairs and such and it claims everything is working. I did a clean reboot of Windows 10 (Education) and the problem still persists.
Looking at the keyboard driver (Thermal Challenger Gaming Prime), it doesn't seem to register that the left window's button works for anything at all. Attempting to press the button on the keyboard yields no response even if I attempt to bind that key to something else. I doubt it is hardware as using this keyboard on my laptop works perfectly fine. The laptop is running windows 8 however.
When pressing on the windows button in the left corner of my screen, everything works fine. Left clicking pulls up everything normally and right clicking provides a list of options that seems to be standard for a functioning computer.
All the drivers are installed properly according to the Windows settings and looking at each of the drivers, they are all up to date according to their manufacturer. This is a custom computer that I recently built. It has no prior Operating systems or files and Windows 10 Education was installed on it through the Media Creation Tool on a bootable USB.

I resurrected my old HP DV5-1044CA. I did a fresh Windows 10 install. Strangely when the laptop sleeps or if I put it to sleep with the power button or by closing the lid, I can wake it with the keyboard or power button and use the keyboard to enter my PIN but after that the keyboard no longer works. I have to restart to get the keyboard working again.

I have a Anitech P201RU keyboard and when I boot my PC the keyboard works fine until the login screen. I have tried turning on legacy in bios and turning it off and tried uninstalling the drivers. What I noticed is that when I go into device manager it shows a exclamation mark next to the usb composite device.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 on my Acer laptop, after about 10 mins of powering up and using the internet, the screen goes black, as if shutting down, however, the power light remain lit. I then have to manually shut down and re-boot. There are no error messages or warnings apart from 1 time when I caught a very quick glimpse of "Windows is in recovery...", that's all I saw.

I'm running a Windows 10 Pro PC. My internet service provider is Charter Spectrum. They provide an Arris modem which only handles ethernet/phone connections (no wifi etc). My router is a Belkin F7D8302 Play N600 Wireless Dual-Band N Router. Since about 2 months ago I suddenly, and intermittently began to experience internet connectivity issues. Errors like DNS Probe Finished Bad Config started popping up for instance. The router I'm using has hardwired connections to:
-Modem
-PS4
-PS3
-PC
-SAMSUNG TV
It wirelessly handles connections through two bands (2.4GHz, 5GHz) with username and password:
-Mac
-iPhone
-Laptop (periodically)
I'm usually able to reconnect again by the following methods:
-Power cycling the Belkin Router
-If that's not enough, power cycling and going to Services on my pc and restarting the DNS Client.
Other possibly important details for my connection are that I have a VPN (PIA) which I sometimes use, although I don't always have it on, and I experience connection issues even with it off. I mention it because as I understand it, when the VPN software installs it adjusts network settings as needed. In addition to this, my university requires certain security settings for network to be active in order to access my university email account on the windows mail app (which ones I don't know) and this could also affect the network configuration. Finally, a detail I've noticed is that the 5GHz connection will usually disappear during the connectivity issue, and the 2.4GHz connection will be found, but no device can connect to it.
I can honestly say that networking is not my strong suit when it comes to PCs, so I'm not quite certain what's creating so many drops in connectivity. Multiple devices running at the same time (one wireless, one wired) MAY or MAY not lead to the connectivity issue. I haven't tested that hypothesis long enough for me to be sure. What could I try in order to troubleshoot my connectivity issues?

I don't know if this problem is caused because of latest Windows 10 update or not, but lately I noticed when I turn on my PC, or even restart, my keyboard (Corsair K70) gets turned off, while my mouse still working fine. This is the period after bios & logo, when both keyboard & mouse are turned off & then mouse gets turned on again on logon, but my keyboard doesn't. I need to re-plug it to get it working again. They both are connected via USB ports. In device manager also everything is all right, no errors or anything like that. I tried to update driver via device manager. It said "latest driver is already installed".

I have two desktops using a single keyboard, monitor and mouse via a KVM device. One desktop is running Windows 7 but I've just upgraded the other from Windows 8 to Windows 10.
All was 100% well on both machines before the upgrade. The Windows 7 machine is still fine (as you'd expect!) but on the Windows 10 machine hitting the key on the keyboard has no effect whatsoever. On Windows 10 set up I chose "UK keyboard" as usual; I think I've always done whenever I've loaded any version of Windows.
(The sharper ones amongst you will have realised that I'm typing this on the Windows 7 machine!!!)

I am running Windows 10 (64-bit), but this problem also occurred on 8.1 and 7 (both 64-bit) with clean installations. I am also dual booting Ubuntu Studio 15.04, but more on that later.
When I boot my PC into 10, I have up to ten minutes before my PC either resets forcefully by itself, or freezes and never recovers. When I check the Minidump folder afterwards nothing is there.
I have replaced both my CPU (amd fx-6300) and PSU (corsair cx500m), and tested my RAM (with both sticks or just one), but none of that has fixed the problem.
My BIOS settings are at their defaults, no over/underclocking or over/undervolting at all.
The odd thing is, Ubuntu Studio runs fine with no crashes as far as I can see *EDIT: NOT THE CASE* , but if there was a software problem surely there would be a dump file?

My question is in regards to shared folders. I run a desktop and laptop connected by ethernet, through a router. Both machines run Windows 10 Pro. Both machines have static IP addresses setup in the router. I do not use a software firewall and both computers are allowed onto the network.
I share folders on both machines in order to run client software on the laptop which connects to the flight simulator on the desktop. All of the shared folders have full control setup for everyone in both security settings and the shared folders tab.
There are HomeGroups set up on both machines with the correct information.
The problem (finally you say) is that occasionally, one computer cannot open the shared folders on the other over the network. This doesn't happen all the time, nor is the solution consistent. Sometimes closing and reopening the network folder fixes it. Sometimes just waiting does it. Other times, I have to reboot the computer(s). This creates issues with my client software trying to connect to the desktop. The error is: 0x80070035 Windows cannot find.....(to paraphrase).
I should point out that the other machine shows up in the network folder. I just can't access it when this happens. This happens mainly on the laptop attempting to connect to the desktop, although once in awhile the desktop cannot find the laptop.
I have checked and rechecked settings, deleted and rebult the HomeGroup, ensured password protected sharing is off, network discovery is on; amongst other things. I read about changing the shared computer name to its IP address. I also read somewhere about changing a number of registry entries that would force a change in Windows network behaviour.

After i upgraded to win10 i've encountered a problem i can't seem to figure out what is causing it. This happens on youtube in firefox, on twitch in opera and in vlc playing local files (all apps are latest version). But it's not a constant issue, it's intermittent. So it might happen every 10 min or so where something seems to hog all resources for a second.
What i've tried.
Completely uninstalled and reinstalled vlc.
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannow
All completed successfully, but with no change.

I have a generic Microsoft 200 keyboard and I'm running into two issues:
1) My keyboard goes into sleep mode every 5 seconds. I can tell because the Num Lock light goes off and comes back on when I hit any key.
2) If I long press a key, it seems to go into "sticky" mode and keeps pressing until I press it back again. This is especially troublesome when playing video games.
- I've checked power saving modes, all seems ok at default.
- I've checked and Sticky Keys is disabled as well as any user accessibility option.
