I've done a reinstall of Windows 10 today. I unplugged my internal storage HDD's to isolate the SSD for the install, wiped the SSD, and reinstalled 10.
Now it's installed, I've plugged my 2 internal HDD's back in, started up Windows, and neither drives are showing. Neither in device manager or in Explorer. What could be the issue here, and how do I resolve it?
Yesterday I went from Windows 7 to windows 10 with a clean install.
My system based on an ASUS P9x79Pro motherboard has 4 internal disk drives.
The first two, a 500GB SSD for the system and a 2TB spinning disk, are connected to Intel SATA 6G ports and are fine.
I also have two further 2TB data drives attached to the Marvell SATA 6G ports. It is these that are looking unusual.
After installing windows I installed the Marvell driver from the ASUS website for windows 10. However Device manager does not show Marvell under Storage controllers
Both data drives connected to the Marvel controller appear under eject media as removable drives along with something called "Eject Marvell 91xx config"...
One of the data drives (but not the other) appears in File Explorer as a removable drive.
When I insert any removable drive (USB, SD cards, etc) the device shows up twice in Explorer. Once under "This PC" tree and the other as a device. See attached pic (USB Drive H):
I remember hearing about this being the way it's designed to work, but frankly it's a bit silly - I only need to see a single entry for the drive/device...
Is there any way to get rid of one of these entries without stuffing up some other Explorer feature?
Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10, I'm now seeing the 4 card reader drives built into my computer appearing on some of the different desktop folders.
They don't appear on C:UsersusernameDesktop, nor do they show up on the physical desktop screen itself, which also doesn't show the Recycle Bin, Control Panel, etc (ie, it works the same way I had set it up before on 8.1) but they do appear on my taskbar desktop, on the navigation pane, and so forth.
Almost all of the data I care about is on my other internal drives. Should I bother backing up my other drives, or does upgrading them leave them alone?

recently upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10.
upon right click it only showing help.
My Maxtor external hard drive is not showing under This PC, but is under Device Manager. Updating the driver comes back as driver is up to date. Changing Bios setting between UEFI and Legacy do not make a difference. Using a different USB port does not make a difference.
I can get full access to the drive if I boot up LinuxMint from a USB stick.
Microsoft says this is a manufacturers driver problem.
Acer says this is Windows problem.
I have several server drives mapped to my Surface Pro 3 tablet, and from time to time they disappear from Windows Explorer and XYplorer (an Explorer replacement). They are still there and mapped, as Net Use shows them mapped properly. But to get them tho show up in either Explorer or XYplorer, I have to physically remap them (right click: Map Network Drive...) and when I do so they already show up with the proper drive connection but won't appear unless I finish the remapping. XYplorer has a tool to reconnect all network drives, but nothing happens there.

My new windows 10 only sees my PC - when searching for my files in Explorer, it cannot 'see' my two external drives when I plug them in. I've looked in Device Manager and they are not showing in there either. How can I tell Win 10 to access my external drives?
I thought Win 10 would automatically spot my external drivers the moment I plugged them in? Then it would go search for and install the appropriate drivers - but it isn't doing that..
My Windows 10 File Explorer is muddled showing many items, and in particular USB Flash Drives twice!

I use 2 SSD's and 1 internal HDD.
Issue 1: My internal 2TB HDD is displayed in Device Manager as Portable Devices. This HDD hosts my User's Folders.
Issue 2: I have an external HDD which is a USB3.0 compatible. When it's connected to a USB3.0 port, the LED on the HDD is blue, and if it's USB2.0 the LED is white.
When I wake up the PC from Sleep mode, the HDD doesn't return to USB3.0 status, instead it's LED is white. Unplugging and re-plugging, won't work. I'll have to reboot the PC to get it back to USB3.0

my cd drive icon was showing and working then stopped showing up. I did as much research as I could and purchased AVG driver updater and it worked for a few days and won't work again.
View 1 RepliesI just spent a long time trying to find the best answer for this and wanted to save people some time... this is specifically for Windows 10.(So, the answer is basically here: URL...Add a new "Multi String Value" called "TreatAsInternalPort" to HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE SYSTEM Current Control SetService sstorahciParametersDevice with the values "0|1|2|3|4|5|" (the | symbolizes a new line)(I had to reboot two (2) times before the changes took.)
I had to do this fix because BitLocker has different options specifically for fixed, local, internal drives as opposed to a USB drive or eSATA drive which is removable. Also, this gets rid of the "Eject" option in Windows 10 for mislabeled internal HDDs.This is what it looks like when storing the values into "TreatAsInternalPort":

View 9 RepliesI'm running B10074 on my laptop , and I connected my external display to it as well as my external keyboard and mouse at my desk so I could sit there and do the setup etc without moving all of that out of the way. I had the laptop lid shut and off to the side while I was doing this. Then, I shut the laptop down, unplugged all the external peripherals, and turned it on again. It went through the windows boot sequence with the spinning circles, then black screen.
After 20 minutes of frustration, I realised that the laptop would show a login prompt only when I plug in the external monitor BEFORE i start it, and only if the laptop is closed while it is booting (when the lid is closed during boot, the Dell logo and spinning circles come up on the external display)
I further figured out that in Control Panel, it only displays the external display, its like the computer doesn't even recognise the internal display anymore. I dont know why that would be since when I first booted it up and installed drivers, I was using the internal display and everything was working fine.
There is an icon in my tray to "Safely remove hardware and eject media". It is always there (even when no USB devices are plugged in) because Windows thinks my second internal SSD is removable.Is there a config setting or a registry edit to fix that?

Is it possible to build an enclosure and create a NAS drive -- I can easily make external USB drives but I think a NAS storage system would be better. What I need to do --should in theory be easy just need some sort of network card and an OS.
Today I updated my laptop to latest build of windows. After that I found "No Audio Output Device Is Installed" message. I reinstalled audio drivers from Dell (Audio_Driver_PKGMR_WN32_6.0.1.7564_A01) Still no sound. I checked device manager it shows, Other Devices-High Definition Auduio-PCI Device, both have exclamation mark in yellow triangle. (See attachment) I am puzzled what should I do next.

View 1 RepliesI have had to reinstall my wireless printers everyday for the last couple of weeks. I upgraded to Windows 10 in December of 2015. I'll get the message that no driver is installed and that they are not connected to the network. One is an HP Officejet 8600 all-in-one & the other is an HP Envy 100 D410. I have had these printer a fairly long time with no problems. Now I have to go to the HP site & reinstall the drivers every day & then run the installation process again. I use their IP addresses when installing them.
View 7 RepliesI was forced to uninstall the Lenovo power management driver from my laptop because it was giving me blue screens (I believe it used to happen when the display was meant to go to sleep). This means that I now have no power management and the fan goes full blast all the time. Therefore I want to reinstall the driver to see if I can find a workaround to the crashing while keeping the fan a bit quieter. How do I do this? Windows Update can't see that it is missing and Lenovo don't have a download for it, presumably because Windows is supposed to handle installing the driver automatically.

Several days ago I noticed that plugging in current headset no longer muted the internal speaker. I know that it is not the headset as it works perfectly on another computer.
Doing a web search has not resulted in finding the problem, let alone a solution. Further my anti-virus is up-to-date, as are the microphone and speaker drivers.
