Drivers/Hardware :: Meaning Of Warning Icons In Device Manager
Dec 15, 2015
After installing a new Samsung 850 EVO SSD (this is in addition to the SSD that is on the mother board)in my Dell XPS 8700 and upgrading to Win10, I have three warnings showing up in Device Manager.
Opening their properties shows that all three are working correctly with no error codes. All of the drivers are current. I do see that the NVidia GeForce GTX 660 and the Intel 8 Series/C220 Series USB EHCI #2 -8C2D share the same IRQ 16. I've done a little poking around including running the Depp Support Assistant and correcting a few issues, I cannot find anything the might point me to the reason for these warnings.
Since everything appears to be working well, should I simply treat the little yellow warning as just informational and move on?

I have googled this all over the place and there are all sorts of issues with DVD / CD-ROM players no longer being recognized but I haven't come across the same problem I'm having.
I upgraded to Windows 10 64bit from Windows 7 64bit. One day while I was transferring data from my SSD boot drive to my HDD storage drive everything locked up, I got an error message (that I didn't save) and all of a sudden my HDD was no longer visible in My Computer. I ran into all sorts of issues following this and believed that something had corrupted during the data transfer so I opted to disconnect my HDD and do a fresh install of windows with a format on my SSD.
Everything was working well until one day the same thing happened with my DVD/CR-ROM drive, it just disappeared from My Computer. I went to install / check for updated drivers in Device Manager and I believe I clicked uninstall by mistake.
Now when I look at Device Manager there is not even a DVD/CD-ROM option (menu spot for it).
Above: So here you can see My Computer, there is my SSD Boot drive but the DVD / CD-ROM is not there
Above: The DVD / CD-ROM drive does not show up in Disk Management, I've tried rescanning drives, refresh, nothing. (As an aside, what are those unnamed disks???)
Above: Device Manger, there is not even an option to view DVD / CD-ROM drives.
Above: Regedit - A fix I saw was to check this registry for UpperFilters and LowerFilters both of which were not there so I didn't touch anything here.
So far I have done the following troubleshooting:
Turned off the PC and unplugged the CD/DVD drive from the Sata Port. Restarted the PC and loaded windows. Shut off the PC again and re-connected the CD/DVD drive.
When I started the PC back up I entered BIOS and the drive shows up under Sata Port 2 like it should:
ASUS DVD RAM GH75N
There is power to the drive, it opens and closes and if I put a disk in it spins up.
So this leads me to believe the drive is ok and the cable / port are good as it's being recognized.
I think my biggest concern is not being able to see a menu in Device Manager for DVD/CD-ROM drives. I'm not sure how it got removed or how to get it back.
I'm going to try and contact ASUS to see if they have specific drivers for this drive meant for Windows 10.

For some reason I can't run the Device Manager. After a couple of minutes I get a "did not respond in a timely fashion" message ...
The PC otherwise runs fine.

Upgrade from win 7 pro 64 to 10 pro 64. All hardware and software was new, name brand and authorized at time of original build. The bios shows the drive as sata 3. I checked the windows advisor and the drive is rated as acceptable. It's an Asus sata dvd-+rw.I used every windows repair and diagnostic tool I could find to no avail. The only update for the dvd player was firmware which I installed. I tried switching the bios to auto play but it did nothing.
I did have problems with the upgrade. I could not get the upgrade icon although I had all the required files and had auto upgrades set, so I downloaded 10 to a dvd and did the upgrade. That's the last time the dvd player was recognized. It is working. Asus loads a mini os on it's mother boards called Speed Gate. I can use Speed Gate to to read file on a dvd but it wont execute.I tried making a recovery usb but it fails. I then tried reset but it disconnects the key board and mouse so I have to do a hard restart so reset fails too. I tried restarting with the win 10 dvd in the drive but it wasn't recognized. To update the bios the instructions say use the install disc. I tried using Speed Gate but could only see the list of files. It does give the option of using the asus update utility which should be in programs (apps in 10) but it isn't there.

The driver rollback is grayed out (unavailable) for devices in the Device Manager. From what I find doing a search, the user must be an "Administrator" or it will be unavailable. My account is an Administrator account. What do I have to change to fix this?

Windows keeps putting my Canon printer in device manager under the disk drive. Also puts the printer under printers which is correct. Everytime I uninstall it from under the disk drive location.
It puts it back after a reboot. Also get dump files error on usb port, which the printer uses. Printer works fine, but it should not be put under the disk drive in device manager. only way to stop it, is to turn printer off, before I reboot.

Some time ago, at [URL] , I learned to launch an elevated Device Manager by using Cortana to search for "devmgmt.msc," then right-clicking the search result and selecting "Run as administrator," then look for yellow flags next to drivers which need updating. I've done that several times, including earlier today, and I've never seen any yellow flags, but today I installed Windows Update MiniTool and I discovered that there were 6 drivers which needed updating. Anyway, whenever I launch an elevated Device Manager, I never see anything to indicate that it's elevated, and there's never a UAC dialog like there is whenever I run anything else as an administrator.

I got a problem with USB cable. When I plug it in there is no action from system side. It should at least give me a message like"Unknown Device" but there is NO such message. I don't see it also in device manager...
I've checked same cable on different laptop (Windows 7) and it shows as "Unknown Device".
Scan for hardware changes also dont work for it...
- how to debug it? I've tried Microsoft and Intel drivers but with no luck
I am using Windows 10 - Intel 6 Series / C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1C2D & 1C26 USB Drivers

Have eventually got 10 on my Toshiba Satellite R830. The problem I have is my Webcam does not work. Thought it was a driver problem but one was installed checked with Toshiba support site but no drivers for 10 showing only the one on my laptop. Spoke to Toshiba who tell me that this is all down to microsoft as they understand as microsoft were doing all of this automatically they had undertake to update all the drivers in the new installation???
Trying to contact microsoft seems to be impossible as they want an activation code but when I said I do not have one for Win 10. Was then told they would transfer me tech support and the inevitable disconnection occured. This after some 20 minutes waiting on the phone.

On Windows 8. 1, I had no issues with this speaker. It's a JBL Charge. After upgrading to 10 it worked fine until a reboot when it failed to connect (it pairs, but won't connect, and the speaker doesn't appear as an audio-out option in Sound settings).
The Bluetooth wizard in PC Settings says "Driver error" next to the speaker icon.
Poking around in device manager, I see this error:
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Conflicting Address Range}
The specified address range conflicts with the address space."
The only references I find to this error online are for different (and quite old) version of windows, and seem unrelated to Bluetooth.
I can't even look at the "resources" tab because it appears to have vanished in Windows 10!

Laptop Samsung NP300V5A. Sound stops working about a month after Win 10 upgrade. No changes done at the time.Audio devices show up under Device Manager, but not under Playback/Recording Devices. Same for Realtek Sound Manager - it doesn't see the devices. I can install, delete and update drivers under Device manager but it doesn't make any difference. It is not a physical problem, tested on Linux live CD.
Solutions tried:
-Installing various versions of HD Realtek Drivers (including windows update version)
-Installing/Removing Realtek software.
-Enabling/Disabling devices under Device Manager
-Called spirits of ancestors. Seemed like it worked for a while, but ended up being a joke.
-Did system restore to various dates.
-Restarted in safe mode
-Restarted various services such as Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, Plug'n'Pray, Power, etc.
-Checked system, application and driver even logs.
-Tried a couple of registry fixes. Angered spirits of ancestors. Turning gray..
-Reinstalled chipset drivers
-Rebooted about 30 times
-Sound Device Troubleshooting finds no issues
-Display Disabled Devices is enabled

I just upgraded to Windows 10; not much problems for me, except one that I really wish I new that before upgrading.
Let me just say this; the Windows 10 app on my pc (running Win7 Ultimate) did not say anything about this issue, that's why I upgraded.
Under my windows 7 I had 2 Realtek RTL8168D PCI-E Gigabit Nic; which I had setup for teaming with the Realtek Teaming Utility; after the upgrade I found out that utility was not compatible with Windows 10, which sucks.
My real problem is under the Device Manager I only see one (1) Nic listed.... is this normal for Windows 10?
Also, how to setup a NIC Team without using the Realtek utility?

When I updated my computer from windows 7 to windows 10, all of a sudden I don't seem to have a CD/DVD drive anymore. It shows up in the BIOS but not on the actual computer. I have tried to make sure the computers all plugged in correctly and it is. So what can I do to resolve this issue, and if there are so many problems with windows 10 why on earth allow have of the entire population download, especially when MICROSOFT should have thought of all the bugs and fixed them ahead of time. Its not fair to offer free upgrades, when its essentially a downgrade?

My Win10 install, 64 bit, (over Win7 64 bit) runs OK. But Device Manager doesn't see the Optical Drive. The drive was "G" under Win7 and functioning.
Tried the "New Hardware" tab several times and looked at the BIOS. Nothing seems amiss but the drive is not there.
