Drivers/Hardware :: No Audio Output Device Is Installed
Nov 3, 2015
So, i have Windows 10, i'm barley learning about Computer's and such, but i plugged in my headphones and then all of a sudden i see "No Audio Output Device is Installed." I unplugged my headphones to see if that would fix the problem but of course it didn't. I don't know what to do i tried doing something else where i had to change my files to classic but i didn't see any General tab.

i have my ASUS X555LD for almost a year now, so as far as date is concerned my laptop shouldn't be too old to suffer such illness. So it came with Win8.1 x64 of course and just recently, as soon as Windows 10 was released, i upgraded quickly.
but right after i upgraded to Windows 10, my laptop became ill and had this errors:
1. i got BSoD Most of the Time, one would say CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED or UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION. there are times my laptop would freeze in the BSoD, not even the 0% would move to 100%. so i had no other choice but to force shutdown it, and sometimes after turning my laptop on again i end up at my BIOS with no HDD nor BOOT ENTRY listed. as i experimented, i had to press slightly hard on the right side of my Laptop where my HDD is Located just for my Laptop to re-read my HDD once again, as soon as i got back to Windows 10, i ran an HDD Check and nothing was wrong, no bad sectors or anything. this is confusing me as to how it is happening. so i somehow got used to BSoD since my Laptop frequently experience it. sometimes just a simple movement that would shake my laptop would turn into BSoD again, i suspect something like my HDD or loose or the likes. i dont really know.
2. after the BSoD Case, a week or three i guess. i started to loose Audio Ability. it was just this morning, the Volume Icon has a "RED X" on its icon and states "No Audio Output Device is installed.". and after checking my Device Manager, to my surprise the Built-in Audio Device (Realtek) is not there. i don't know how or why it happened but i can't get it back.
even checking the sound tab on the control panel doesn't bring out Audio Devices.
i was wondering if ASUS or the PC Store where i bought my Laptop would fix it for me as per warranty is involved ?

Just bought a new HP Pavilion x2 (laptop/tablet hybrid) and it has been working perfectly for about a week. Suddenly went to start it up and it had done some updates which has left me with no audio. When I open up the Sound through search, under the Playback tab there is only "No Audio Devices are Installed" (with both Show Disabled and Disconnected Devices ticked).
I have gone through device manager and under Sound, Video and game controllers there is only: "Conexant I2S Audio Codec" as a driver. I have uninstalled this, reinstalled it, updated driver software (from my computer and internet), disabled it, added legacy hardware and tried a varied combination of these from various forums and guides and nothing has worked. There is still a little red x next to my volume control. My speakers are B&O (says so on the side of the screen).

I have upgraded my laptop Asus k43s from windows 7 to windows 10. Everything went fine but then I decided to reset the laptop to have a fresh start. After resetting, my sound button has a red x mark on it saying that "No audio output device is installed". So I go to the device manager to check things out and it says that the drivers are functioning well. I have 4 Nvidia high definition audio and 1 realtek high definition audio(don't know why so many). I tried to disable and enable but no luck. I also tried to do a reset again to check if something went wrong on my first reset but still after the 2nd reset I still get the same problem.

I've upgraded my ASUS U36SG from Windows 8.1 Professional to Windows 10 Enterprise. Everything went fine unless the issue "no audio output devices are installed",
I've tried almost all the solutions for that problem in other similar threads without any success.
Consider that now, in my Device Manager I can see this (OS is in italian):
Both Microsoft and Realtek HD Audio Driver up to date to their last version.
But, no audio (or microphone) device:
I also write to ASUS and they first suggested me to install a legacy version of the Realtek Audio Driver (v 6..0.1.7503) then to rollback to Windows 7 Pro (I'm not joking...)
How to get my laptop to have its sounds back?

I just bought a new Asus F555LA-AB31 with Windows 10 from amazon and after about a couple days, the speaker icon in the system tray has a little red X near it. And when hovered over it, it says no audio output is installed. I've tried a multitude of fixes, including reinstalling audio driver, using system restore and restarting Windows audio from services.msc, and none of them work.
My PC Specs:
Intel core i3 5010u
4gb ram
Realtek hd audio
Windows 10

I noticed the sound was off on my task bar (just installed Windows 10), anyway when I went to the control panel it said there was no audio device installed. So how do I go about installing it? I googled but all the advice was for older editions of Windows

Without using the stereo mix method, how could i make all applications play sounds on all my output devices. I want to do it this way, so if i want an application to play on just a single output(ex. headphones) i could just mute that application on all other output(ex. speaker, stereo, HDMI) on windows' volume mixer.
or if there is a software for this, i looking for designs as plain and simple as the default mixer and easily accessible. i don't want it too complicated.

so before I wiped my entire PC the sound was working flawlessly - I would use the audio inputs for the Razer Blackwidow Chroma and it would work perfectly.Since the reset however, no sound has been discoverable, I get a red x on my speaker, and it says "No audio drivers installed" on "Playback Devices" I have tried putting my headphones in every audio jack on my PC (front, back and keyboard) and it still isn't picking my headphones up, I have installed the latest drivers and still no joy.

It used to be possible to do this in Device Manager IIRC, but with Windows 10 installed I can't see how to get a device driver report. Has this been taken away? If so what will produce such a report?

Since upgrading from Windows 7, I have not been able to find an easy way to switch between audio devices easily on Windows 10. What I'm trying to do is switch between my system speakers and headphones. The only way I can find to do this is to right-click the speakers icon in the taskbar, select playback devices, right-click either "speakers" or "headphones" and select "Set As Default Device."
From then on, all sounds are routed to that device. But I have to do this every time I want to switch between headphones and speakers. I think on Windows 7 there was a way to route all sounds through BOTH speakers AND headphones. I could then just use the physical device's switches to control where the sound comes from. I haven't found a way to do this on Windows 10.

I'm not sure if this is the right place or if it should possible be network related... but for some reason, the "Bluetooth" tile is back in my Action Center, but I have zero Bluetooth devices on or installed.
It was there after the latest build 10586, then I think the first Cumulative Update came out and it went away... I doubt there was any causal link between them... but now after a restart of the computer, the tile is back... and I don't know why.

I have my PS4 and Xbox One connected to my second screen with HDMI and from my screen I have 3,5 audio cable from screen audio output to motherboards soundcards line-in and in windows I listen to line-in device.
It works when i activate option "listen to this device" in control panel until I restart computer.
If I have option "listen to this device" checked when I restart it won't work until I uncheck that option and restart again or restart audio services.
I have two soundcards one on motherboard (Realtek) and Creative Soundblaster Z and sound output seems to work because I can listen to music and watch videos but I can't hear anything from line-in.
I have installed new drivers and clean install on windows 10.

Macbook pro early 2011 bootcamp was not willing to let the SSD run in AHCI mode in windows 10, so I did EFI installation of windows 10. Everything seems to work but the audio card.
Code: This device cannot start. (Code 10) in the High definition audio controller.
I tried installing the drivers manually and automatically and from the bootcamp but this error persists.
Is the problem in the EFI implementation of the macbook pro early 2011 that windows cannot read , or is it related to drivers ? I downloaded latest videocard Intel HD 3000, and realtek generic driver. The audio drivers seems to be from currus logic.
On Bootcamp install (BIOS) the sound card works fine, but in EFI it can not start the driver.

My laptop does not want to recognise the sound card/audio driver that are built into it. The fun part is this just happened. Audio played yesterday, and the time before that, and even before the upgrade. The only thing that has changed (or at least is the biggest change i can think of) is downloading and installing Cygwin (sans audio packages). In trying to play a song on the new microsoft Groove, i get this;
Further inspection in the playback devices, the only two options are the Speakers/Headphones and communications Headphones, the former of which i can only assume is my actual computer speakers (otherwise its completely gone!).Looking at the device manager, everything seems okay. All the drivers are up to date so im not sure what could be wrong there?
Its Windows 10 pro (upgraded from Win7 Pro) and the computer is a Dell Precision M4600. (I am pretty sure the audio driver is in the device manager image).

Laptop Samsung NP300V5A. Sound stops working about a month after Win 10 upgrade. No changes done at the time.Audio devices show up under Device Manager, but not under Playback/Recording Devices. Same for Realtek Sound Manager - it doesn't see the devices. I can install, delete and update drivers under Device manager but it doesn't make any difference. It is not a physical problem, tested on Linux live CD.
Solutions tried:
-Installing various versions of HD Realtek Drivers (including windows update version)
-Installing/Removing Realtek software.
-Enabling/Disabling devices under Device Manager
-Called spirits of ancestors. Seemed like it worked for a while, but ended up being a joke.
-Did system restore to various dates.
-Restarted in safe mode
-Restarted various services such as Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, Plug'n'Pray, Power, etc.
-Checked system, application and driver even logs.
-Tried a couple of registry fixes. Angered spirits of ancestors. Turning gray..
-Reinstalled chipset drivers
-Rebooted about 30 times
-Sound Device Troubleshooting finds no issues
-Display Disabled Devices is enabled

New computer built, using Windows 10. I'm getting static on every audio device/browser/software. I am also 95% sure I updated all drivers. But Microsoft denies me a right to have service due to custom build, and Kingston just blames Windows, as does Gigabyte.
Motherboard: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 (rev. 1.0)
OS: Windows 10 build 1151
Headset: Hyper X Cloud 2 with the latest Firmware update.
And a shitty Logitech that has the same problem.
Tried the audio jack on the mobo, case's front USB headers as well. Everything is static.

Why is this?

I recently put my camera memory card into my computer to download photos. I couldn't open them and need to leave so hit "remove device" figuring that I'd go back later when I had more time to get them. When I went back and reinserted the card it didn't show up. I've tried to "add a device" but it still doesn't work. When I hit the device and printers icon it doesn't show up. What do I do?

I am running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on a Lenovo T420 laptop and use the following two monitors in extended display mode:
1.) ASUS PA238Q connected via DisplayPort (Primary Display)
2.) Samsung Syncmaster 245BW connected via DVI (Secondary Display)
The display of the monitors works perfectly, it's just that when I start windows, the audio comes through my laptop speakers. Under "Playback devices", it lists the ASUS as "Not plugged in." If I either power-cycle my ASUS or disconnect and re-connect the displayport cable, the monitor is detected as plugged in under "playback devices" and the audio comes through the speakers attached to the ASUS monitor.
I have a Intel HD Graphic 3000 card and the Intel HD graphics app correctly recognized my monitors by their true model #. Device Manager has my laptop display (LCD 1600x900), SyncMaster 245B/245BW/245BPlus(Digital) and Generic PnP Monitor listed (instead of ASUS PA238Q). There do not seem to be any drivers for the ASUS monitors off their site that I could find.
