View 3 RepliesI cannot find the DVD R/W drive on my desktop. I cannot play CDs nor DVDs.
View 6 RepliesI installed Windows 10 last week and have been using it with mainly no problems (apart from my DVD/CD drive not working, which I posted a thread here about but haven't received any responses yet ).When I am visiting my family back home in England I often plug my laptop into the tv to watch films with the kids through the HDMI port. I usually have to change the "default" audio device to the AMD HDMI Output to do this, and then change it back afterwards. I did this once with no problems.
However, the last time I watched something I didn't change it back before shutting down. And now my "Internal Speakers" device has disappeared. I tried uninstalling all drivers relating to sound devices in device manager and doing a scan for changes - the HD Audio device reappeared, but still no "internal speakers" option. I tried checking "show disabled devices" in the "playback devices" window, still no joy. I uninstalled everything again and used the drivers from the ASUS support page for my model laptop (ASUS x53z) and still nothing
I installed the updated sound drivers from AMD in the sticky post here. Again, nothing but the HDMI audio option. This is frustrating as I live abroad and my laptop is my main method of both communicating home and watching media. I can't use my headphones now.I have considered doing a System Restore, but crazily the only System restore point available is from when some automatic updates were installed after the issue appeared. My only option is to do a System Reset, losing all my applications, but i'm not convinced this will solve the issue. I have noticed that there is one device showing that it is unable to start in device manager.
This issue is as simple as the subject line. My DVD drive was working fine under Windows 7. In fact I even installed 10 from a burned DVD. Now it is completely MIA. No exclamation-marked devices on device manager or anything. I did try a couple solutions that were supposed to work on a similar problem on 8, namely registry changes, but they did no good.
View 9 RepliesI have a Toshiba Satellite and I'm running windows 10. I've tried pressing F5 and FN+F5 but nothing happens. I've had a look on various forums and all the advice seems to start with "go here", "go to this menu" etc but how to go anywhere without a mouse.
View 9 RepliesEdge just disappeared this morning on my husbands laptop. I have the same one and mine is still there. I tried resetting it by deleting the folder in packages and when I tried to reset, I got this error message. I attached the thumbnail. I checked his updates and nothing was installed overnight. He loves the browser and I couldn't find anywhere to go redownload it.
View 7 RepliesWhen I upgraded to Windows 10 all my icons disappeared and became light blue images of fx a camera for .bmp files.
How do I get my icons back that show a preview of what the file looks like:
browser gone with Win 10 update...no "Yellow Star" on any home screen...
Where are MY FAVORITES...years and years of adding website links to my favorites bar...now has disappeared...
I have a couple of folders containing files I have not looked at in over a year.
When I went to look at them, I cannot find them ??
Does Windows 10 automatically archive older unused files or folders ??
My Start Menu has disappeared.
View 1 RepliesI have this habit of writing down quick notes on my desktop on an empty folder kind of to use as a sticky note. I noticed all my folders got deleted somehow this morning.how I can recover the folders and why they disappeared all of a sudden?
View 8 RepliesI have a weird problem, I downloaded the Windows 10 ISO using the Media Creation Tool and now for some reason, the Get Windows 10 icon in the taskbar disappeared so I'm not able to get any alerts when it's ready to install.
View 3 RepliesMy One Drive icons have disappeared. Is there a way to get them back?
View 8 RepliesWell this a new one, yesterday I was downloading a movie, via Utorrent as I have done so many times before. As I do with all my films, I saved them in the directory downloads / Tv shows and films / films / movie title. As I expected, the torrent downloaded fine without any issues and I was about to get ready to watch the film when I noticed something odd. The folder containing TV shows had completely disappeared.
Additionally, I then checked the films folder, to notice all but 4 films (Including the one being downloaded) had also disappeared. I've spent the past hour researching, running malware scans (found nothing), losing the files doesn't bother me, at most, its an inconvenience. What's concerning me is how this could have happened, as mentioned above, I have ran multiple scans and found no evidence that the torrent could have been infected.
(I should point out, when I say disappeared, I mean complete gone from my system. I have checked the recycle bin, tried searching the names of movies and so on. I only have to look at my partitioned drive to see the additional 150GB of space that it now has.)
Well, I did something, but cannot find out what it was I dis or how to rectify it. This AM when starting Windows 10 Home, I had no icons on the desktop. Using the file explorer>desktop, they are there, so i did not delete them. Somehow I have hidden them from view. The normal app that controls the default icons does not have a hide/unhide, so I am at a loss.
View 9 Repliesthis evening, suddenly whn i switched on my system which got updated to windows 10, is not showing any of my files / folders. i don know what happened. all vanished. jus google chrome , i tunes and recycle bin are on desktop. i cant find anything on it.
View 1 RepliesI was working on an Excel file, that was saved on my desktop, I saved it, closed it and when I clicked on it (the icon file on my desktop) it simply disappeared.
I thought immediately that I deleted it or put it on another folder but I went to recycle bin and nothing was there, I searched all the folders on my desktop (and also on the computer drive) for that file and nothing.
It simply vanished. I tried using a recovery software but that software came up with nothing.
I know that his may seem very strange but this happened to me yesterday and all of the work that I was doing has to be done again .
I'm using windows 10 for quite some time now and I notice that it still has some issues to resolve but I never known any OS that made files disappear.
I have got a lot of photos on my drive but since the upgrade from 8 to 10 they have gone, I am not very tech savvy but I can't seem to find them at all. I have gone through all of the photo folders and they all say they are empty. I did not change anything prior to the upgrade and my desktop background was working fine, since the upgrade though, the background has gone and I can't find the file when I browse for it. Could it be that the permissions or account info have been changed automatically? how I can restore my photos and background?
View 1 RepliesWhy is the mouse missing (the pointer) / disappeared, where is it and how to get it back, I need to click.
View 3 RepliesI am unable to access the charms list that was on the right side of the screen it just disappeared it does not work by pointing the mouse cursor at the top right hand corner and I have tried Windows + C but all that does is bring up Cortana. Also I can't find the recycle bin there is not tile for it and it is not on the task bar or Desktop either.
View 2 RepliesAll of the icons in my taskbar have disappeared and the remaining ones (task view, notifications) don't work when i click on them.
View 1 RepliesI installed win10 last night but now most of my icons on the desk top have disappeared.
View 1 Repliesa few weeks ago the windows 10 update icon appeared in my task bar so i clicked it and reserved my update, then a few weeks later my pc got a virus and had to be restored to factory settings, i checked for updates and did them all but now the icon isnt there anymore.
View 7 Repliesmy "Get Windows X" notification has disappeared, yet I haven't received an email with my free Windows 10 copy, even though I applied for it and my hardware meets the requirements(running Windows 7 Professional at the moment). Is this an issue or is MS simply issuing the free copies at their own pace and not to all users at once? The taskbar options panel says that GWX(get windows 10) app is set to be visible at all time but is inactive.
View 1 RepliesI reset the computer and got it all back and when I turned on the computer this morning the icons were missing and just the names of them were there. and on the task bar there are icons there but not the ones that fit the names they are like a dll file, then on top of that I tried to go into properties and see what was happening there and I cant do that either.
View 1 RepliesEarlier today I had filmed a video and was editing it. I saved all the files to my D: drive (1TB hardrive) . I had been saving them in a folder that was a few folders deep into my D: drive.
This is what it looked like
D: New Volume - MurrayBros- Sketches - Video Games Suck - Firewatch sucks
I was saving them in the last one (Firewatch Sucks). When I had finished saving everything, I went to go look at my new video and the folder was gone.
This is what it currently looks like now
D: New Volume - MurrayBros - Sketches - new folder
all those files are gone, and the folder Firewatch sucks is gone, and the folder which I had named Video Games Suck is now titled new folder.
