Drivers/Hardware :: Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader
Dec 9, 2015
When I was viewing my windows 10 updates I saw some unusual update history of my Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader, (see attachments)I very rarely use this on my Dell Inspiron ONE but thought I would just check it out, and it did of course not work, I tried to find the driver in Device Manager but could not find it? How to know about installing the driver again if it is missing, I tried an external usb card reader and this is seen in File Explorer unlike built in one with sd card inserted.

I've just updated my Dell Inspiron 7537 laptop to Windows 10.
All is working fine apart from the built in Realtek card reader. When the PC starts, the card reader appears as a drive and I can read/write to the card. However, the reader will randomly show no content in file explorer and the drive disappears altogether if I remove and reinsert the card. The card reader reappears if I restart the PC. Device Manger shows no problems with the card reader.
I've tried the Dell Windows 10 driver, the latest driver on Realtek's site and the driver installed by Windows update but all fail in the same way. The card reader was fine in Windows 8 so I think it's a software issue.

I have an HP DV4 Laptop(i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) that came with Windows 7, I recently updated to Win10. Everything seems fine except of the high CPU usage in System and Compressed memory. I narrowed it down to the Realtek Memory Card reader. I should also mention that right after the Win10 update two Realtek Memory Card Reader entries were in Device Manager with yellow exclamation icons.
I deleted them and had Windows install the drivers from Windows updates, after that everything LOOKS fine. And there's only one entry now. After a while I noticed the fan making a lot of noise, wasn't like that in Win7.Anyway, after hours of troubleshooting I eventually came back to the Realtek reader, sure enough after disabling it CPU went to normal.I have also downloaded the newest driver from realtek site.

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10, I'm now seeing the 4 card reader drives built into my computer appearing on some of the different desktop folders.
They don't appear on C:UsersusernameDesktop, nor do they show up on the physical desktop screen itself, which also doesn't show the Recycle Bin, Control Panel, etc (ie, it works the same way I had set it up before on 8.1) but they do appear on my taskbar desktop, on the navigation pane, and so forth.

I have installed Windows10 on a Gateway FX530 desktop PC. All has gone well with one exception. The OS seems to recognize that there is a card reader attached, I can see them through Device manager. When I insert a SD card the system completely ignores the device and will not allow me to access it. I have tried to change the drivers, without success. This card reader worked just fine with Windows 7 Pro and there was no indication that they would not work with Windows 10 when I ran the upgrade test.

We're having a discussion over at DP Review. It's a photography site, but they also have a PC Talk forum. Anyway there's a discussion thread - USB thumb drives vs Card Readers in which we're trying to figure out if Windows will boot from a card reader with a SD card installed?
Basically you install the boot media on the SD card, use a card reader to read and boot from it.
I've never tried or seen this so I may be completely wrong, but I contend that neither Windows nor the BIOS will recognize the card reader as a valid boot drive.

I can not figure out how to remove Photos as my default SD card reader. It is totally useless, does not read my SD card and I think it is what has locked me out of my Photos folder.

I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. After that, my Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (ethernet) randomly stops working. After a reboot or "fixing" the problem, the card works for anywhere from 1 minute to 4 hours, then fails again.
Sometimes "failing" means that in control panel it shows that it is still connected, but doesn't actually work, [URL]
or other times it just shows that it is unplugged, when that is certainly not the case [URL]
Troubleshooting the problem with Windows troubleshooter yields three errors, seemingly random when they each appear.
The three errors are "The Default Gateway is not Available", this error [URL], and then finally a DNS error that shows up on Chrome and the Windows troubleshooter [URL]. The way the internet stops working is Chrome will stop loading web pages and give me a DNS error, shown in the most recent gyazo.
So far I have tried rebooting numerous times, (which USUALLY fixes it for a few minutes), troubleshooting with Windows troubleshooter, and changing the DNS servers to Google's (which I have now changed back to the automatic setting since my ISP, Time Warner Cable, isn't too happy about working on an external DNS server. I have also tried eight different ethernet cables, over two different networks and routers. All of this has begun after I upgraded to Windows 10.
I have tried three different drivers for the ethernet card; one from Realtek's website, one from my laptop manufacturer's website (Sager), and lastly Window's generic one, none of which have worked for me. It could be a coincidence, but it seems that if I have constant load on my ethernet card, it lasts for much longer without failing.

Why can Microsoft understand I don't want to use these POS Realtek drivers. I use to disable driver updates from Windows 10 by going into Device Installation settings and Never install drivers from Windows update but now since the last stupid update everytime the POS Realtek drives install automatically no matter how many times I roll back and remove them. I hate the Realtek drives because the audio is super loud and sounds terrible. I just want to use the Microsoft HD Audio Driver which sounds great and uses little resources but no Windows 10 decides that the POS Realtek driver is better.

Just like the title says, I don't want the realtek audio drivers as it completely messes with my audio and also doesn't correctly switch when i plug in headphones for example.
It also doesn't allow for the 'speaker fill' enhancement to be used when playing stereo content through surround sound.
Windows itself does a far better job as opposed to realtek.
Every time i uninstall realtek it automatically gets reinstalled.

I'm using build 10240, and in the first install, it installed the Realtek audio drivers.
The problem with these drivers is that they completely mess up the sound in my headphones.
Anyways, I've tried : Uninstalling the audio manager in control panelDeleting the oem#.infUninstalling the drivers in Device Manager
None of these work. When I uninstall it, the driver is just reinstalled when my computer reboots.

I'm having an incredibly frustrating problem with my Windows 10 laptop. The laptop in question is a Clevo P650SE with the i7-4720HQ and GTX 970M. I reinstalled Windows last week and now i can't get rid of this damn Realtek driver. Whenever i uninstall the Realtek software from Control Panel, it comes straight back after a reboot.
A lot of websites suggest heading into the 'Device Installation Settings' and hitting 'No (Your device might not work as expected)' but this has no effect towards the issue. On previous builds of Windows 10 this worked fine, so i'm not sure what to do next.

Recently I purchased a Logitech h151 headset which has only one single jack, as my ASUS laptop has only one jack used for a headset. However, upon connecting the headset, although the sound plays through it perfectly and without issue, the microphone doesn't seem to work.
I've tried multiple solutions - I went to the Realtek Audio Manager to try and find advanced options, as I read that a possible fix to this is to go there and select an option to separate all input jacks. However, I cannot seem to find advanced options anywhere. I have also entered the Sound section in the control panel, and under the microphone section my external microphone was not detected, even after showing all disabled devices.
As for the Realtek Audio Manager issue, I read of several solutions to make advanced options pop up - from updating the driver to completely uninstalling it and such. As you can probably understand, I would rather not result to such things as messing with the drivers, as I am not a tech-savvy person and will not be able to claw out of a technical hole should I get into one.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, the internal mic is being used and can be detected (of course).

The adapter works in windows 8.1 but does not start in windows 10. Device manager shows an exclamation mark. Installing a new driver does not work. The device manager tells me the best drivers are already installed.

Basically when I try to record my voice all I hear is very strongly distorted sound, no speech is recognizable. I tried updating drivers, all mic settings I can think of but with no success.
When I open the Realtek manager and click the icon for playback on my mic settings the audio is crystal clear, and if possible I would like to have this instead of what is actually outputted. I dont know how to set that working
I clicked to "Listen to this device" and all I hear is VERY distorted sound, no speech is recognizable.
So from what I understand the mic is perfectly fine, the drivers should be fine but the quality that is outputted is terrible. Is there anyway to output what I hear from the playback on realtek?
Im attaching quick screenshot with some more explanation: [URL] ....

Messed around with the drivers, now the ethernet device doesn't show up in the network adapter settings, although it shows up in the Device Manager. It is also apparently in sleep mode.So after formatting and installing Windows 10 x64 on my Dell Inspiron 3542, I decided to update/re-install the drivers from the official Dell download page. Windows Update had taken care of the hardware but the versions were outdated, so I set to work. After successfully installing almost all the drivers, I ran the Ethernet Controller Driver and after installing it, the ethernet device was disabled. BTW, the device shows up as "Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller".
I enabled it but it still remained disabled. In the Properties dialog box it gave me the option to disable it, which means that it thinks that the device is enabled, which it is not. It is visible in the Device Manager, so it is being recognized. After restarting to come to the same result, I deleted the driver from Device Manager and re-installed it, which didn't work. (I don't remember if I attempted a roll-back, although if I did then it obviously didn't work either.)
Then I went to the Realtek official website and downloaded the Win10 Auto-installation Program. It asked me to remove the previous installation from Dell, and near the end, it gave me the error, "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled, Please Plug the Cable". And after this, or after deleting and re-installing the Dell driver (I unfortunately don't remember when), the ethernet device disappeared from the adapter settings. Now there's only Wi-fi there.I really want my ethernet back, even though I have wi-fi to connect to the internet. The only solutions I can see are to either get the Dell driver working or to remove the device from sleep mode.

In my right speaker, I have a slight distortion when i hear high-pitched sounds. I checked on my headphones and I dont hear it. I updated my Realtek audio drivers a few times. It improved the first time. I still have a subtle issue and I'm not sure what to do.
I switched the inputs on my speakers and I still seem to be getting it on the right speaker. it might be the speaker, but since it improved with the driver update.

I've had this problem with my razer kraken headset with sound being played back through the mic. My friend has an identical pare that he had the same problem with. To fix it he simply went into Realtek HD Audo Manager and when to device advance settings and checked "Seperate all input jacks as independent input devices" and bam! NO more sound from his end.
I went to check to see if I could do the same and all I found under device advanced settings was playback devices. No recording devices.

I use an ACER ASPIRE 4736Z laptop running on windows 10 32 bit OS. I have tried many versions of realtek and updated all my audio drivers but still i don't get the option studio quality for the microphone settings in realtek audio manager. Instead i get only CD and DVD quality options. This doesn't work as I always get a hiss when I record using my microphone. I have adjusted the microphone settings in the control panel as well. Need getting the studio quality option for the microphone in realtek audio manager. Find the attached image
