I have a very old but perfectly reliable HP LaserJet 5, which under Windows 7 worked perfectly using a USB-Parallel converter.
Under Windows 10 (Enterprise RTM, clean install, not yet Threshold 2), it is recognized (and prints fine) if its USB connection is plugged into the computer after switching on the printer.
However, once turned off, it is not recognized just by switching it back on. Although it appears in Windows Printers correctly, it won't print unless the USB wire is unplugged and then plugged back in again.
it's been perfect since 1997 under Windows 98, XP, and 7 (with the USB-Parallel converter).

My SSD is mysteriously missing a ton of space..It is my C: drive with Windows 10 Pro installed on it.
I put the SSD in, while using Windows7, anyway, I got Win 10 (clean install from scratch), Cloned from HDD to SSD, moved around the boot order (In BIOS the drive is called a Samsung EVO 250)
Only 113 of 250 showing. Where is all my space hiding!?
Figuring the paging and hibernation bits can't possibly account for 137Gb...?

I have recently upgraded to Windows 10 and alll is working well except for the CD/DVD drive does not automatically recognise a CD when its inserted. With previous Windows 7 when I put a music CD in drive wiith itunes open then itunes would ask if i wanted to import CD.
The CD/DVD is recognised in Device Manager and says that it is working properly. the only way I can get the CD to be recognised after inserting the CD is by going to the Device Manager and double clicking the CD/DVD line to open 'properties'. At that point itunes asks me if i want to import.
The drive is a Samsung SH-223L.
Autoplay is ON

Normal PC that was running win 7 Pro. Had an HP 1260 Lightscribe drive. Burned CDs, DVDs AND Lightscribe labels... Worked perfectly. Worked for years. I know how to use it.
Upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 Pro. Concurrently, my hp 1260 died and I bought a TSST L632M USB Lightscribe drive. I plug is into a USB port AND IT WORKS. It burns CDs. It burns DVDs. It does NOT burn Lightscribe labels. Drive is clearly marked "Lightscribe". The Internet SAYS it's a Lightscribe drive.
The Lightscribe service is running. The Lightscribe Control Panel SAYS IT'S THERE. The DISK is a TDK and clearly marked "Lightscribe". As near as I can tell, it should work.
The Lightscribe template labeler goes through the WHOLE process of "writing" with the animation showing the text being written. BUT, the drive LED never flashes, and nothing gets written.
I tried it on a SECOND machine - one running Win 10 HOME. Same result. Unfortunately, I've upgraded all four PCs to either Win 10 Pro or Win 10 Home, so I no longer have a Win 7 PC to try the drive on.
WHY this thing won't do what it's clearly marked to do? Driver of some sort?

I've just bought a fancy new curved screen HD Samsung monitor, but can't get it to work with my Windows 10 PC. Samsung tell me that they haven't released a Windows 10 driver yet, but that it should work with the basic Windows 10 driver. It doesn't.

I upgrades to Win 10 the the above network/wireless printer worked fine. I've now done a fresh install and it doesn't!
The scanning function works but trying to print produces an error. I've been advised by Samsung support that their driver doesn't support Win 10 and that they don't know when a new version will be released. They said it would still function under the upgrade as it still had access to the old Win 7 drivers there.
Any way of making the Win 7 drivers available on a fresh Win 10 install?

My nice new SDD arrived, I installed it into the PC and disconnected the other SATA drives bar the DVD, spun up my W10 DVD and fairly quickly had a new activated install of W10.
So I plugged in the old SDD (it has the old C: on it) and the HDDs and it booted off the old SDD.
Unplugged the old SDD, plugged in the new one plus the HDDs, it wouldn't boot.
Went back to just the new SDD installed, boots fine, hot-plugged the HDDs and it wouldn't see them.
So right now I'm back where I was with the old SDD and the two HDDs which are mirrored.

I have been working with windows 10 X64 PRO for a little bit now. I can still not figure out why my scripts (.vbs) or .exe that I push to or use on my domain machines will not edit or create keys in the registry. The only way i can do it is to full kill UAC then reboot then make changes then turn it back on then reboot again. Listed below our the UAC settings we have set for our select few windows 10 machines. We have UAC fully off in windows 7, but it is needed in windows 10 to have apps run.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem]
"ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin"=dword:00000000
"ConsentPromptBehaviorUser"=dword:00000000
"EnableInstallerDetection"=dword:00000000
[Code] …..
What I need to do so i can make registry change on the fly. This going to be a big deal breaker for us to move to Windows 10 if i can not change values.

i recently upgraded my hard drive to a new samsung 850 pro ssd 512 gb . i used the samsung migration software and it all went smooth , i checked the newly installed ssd in disk management and it shows that it copied all three partitions which are, 500mb healthy ( recovery partition) .........260mb healthy (EFI system partition) and windows (c 476.18gb NTFS healthy (boot,page file, crash Dump, primary partition) .
Everything seemed to be working fine until tonight when i had a ethernet problem which turned out to be one of my ports on my router going bad . but before i realised that all i needed to do was try a different port on my router i tried resetting my pc to factory settings but it would not let me do it with the new ssd drive so i then tried making a recovery usb flash drive but windows said it could not do it because files were missing .
So even though it shows that i have a recovery partition in computer management i cannot use it . i have not got a clue on how to fix this problem with the new ssd . i swapped the old hard drive back in to the pc and tried to make a system recovery usb drive and it worked fine so why cant i do this from the new ssd and why would files be missing from the newly cloned disk ?

I've just bought a new SSD (Samsung EVO 850 250GB) for my Dell XPS 15 (L521x). After I inserted it into my laptop i intalled Windows 10 Home Pro. The installation process happened without any error, the laptop restarted several times (which is normal during the installation) and then booted to the desktop. again, no error whatsover. now, when i try to turn off or reboot my laptop, it is not able to power off automatically (i've waited for over an hour). so i have to power it off forcefully by pressing the power button for several seconds). if i want to reboot the laptop, it gets stuck at the dell logo, the little circle is spinning but nothing else is happening. i have updated all drivers, tried to boot into safe-mode, nothing worked
The current bios version is up to date (A16), SATA operation mode is AHCI, according to Samsung Magician (which i was able to install) everything is configured correctly.

I upgraded a workstation to Win 10 Pro. The system, System X, has two admin users, A and B. A is logged on to System X. Volume C is shared from the root on System X, and all admins on the system have permissions to Share C with full control. B is logged on to another system, System Y (Win 8.1). B can access (read) almost all folders on System X from System Y, but cannot write to the folders as he did in the past. I included a screenshot of the sharing options, which are the same for all networks, though Network Discovery is off.

I have a Freenas Server (based on FreeBSD Unix) connected to my network. I can't get it to show up in file explorer untill I type "//000.000.000.000" (it's IP address). When I try to drag a file to the window CIF shares (Permissions in Unix are Allow Guest Access and Recursively set sane default windows permissions on share) I get the error "You Need Permission to Perform this Action". Both of these features worked on Win 7 Pro before I did an upgrade to Win 10 Pro. I also did a fresh install of Win 10 Pro and it made no difference so I restored a Macrium image of the Win10 Pro Upgrade.

( do you want to allow this app to make changes to your pc ( yes ) ( no )). And we all know the pros and cons of disabling the UAC. Wouldn't it be good if the Yes Box was automatically Clicked for you. All we need is some type of Batch File that would specifically watch for that Message and Answer it for you. Or maybe hidden deep within the registry it may be possible Tick the right Box to do it for us. Looking for some Positive Answers.???

My standard Documents located in C:users...documents is no longer a writable folder following upgrade to Windows 10. Affects Visual Studio, Outlook and some other software. eg for Visual Studio 2013: CurrentSettings.vssettings cannot be written. I own the folder of course and attempts to remove the "Read Only" flag appear to work and then immediately fail when I attempt a write operation to a file in one of the folders. I am administrator but this doesn't useful. Also logged on as a local user instead of Windows Live account, but same results.

As described above, I have games with varying degrees of the problem. Some cannot save settings, still some other cannot save game progression, the worst has it both. I was able to do various workarounds that let me partially solve the problem.
However, I hit a block with my newly installed Metro Last Light Redux, it doesn't write any saves anywhere. I Googled my problem and no solution fit me, I tried writing an "attrib" modification on "My Documents" using an elevated command prompt to rid the "Read-Only" attribute but that still didn't work. I tried taking ownership of the folders in question but still nothing.

I have only one active account on Windows 10, and it xy -> account type is administrator. My UAC settings are set to never notify. Now every program that i run is not run as admin (as was the case on windows 7) but rather as normal user account. Is there a way to change that globally?
Some problems that i have because of that: Torrent program can't write on disc (first time i see this), all games can't update and write to disc, they run fine tho. I usually let BSPlayer to download subtitles and write them in movie folder that doesn't work as well. If i right click -> run as admin program s work fine but it's a hassle i want to avoid.

I recently upgraded to windows ten but ever since I did my computer keeps telling me I do not have the correct permissions to read/write files. I have tried to change the settings to allow the one and only account the permissions. It works temporarily but after a few days it goes back to not allowing me again. I also tried activating the built in administrator account to save files but of course a built in administrator account cannot access the same things as the original account can.
