Since installing Windows 10, the sound will cut out every so often, usually while watching a video on YouTube or I've downloaded. If I reboot the sound works. I notice that I can't left click on the the task bar when this happens. To reboot I need to right click on the Start button. I tried updating the drivers (Connexant Smart Audio HD) but they were up to date.

I tried watching my shows on a newly downloaded version of VLC and the sound still cuts out. I've tried adjust the Hz in speaker properties but that doesn't work.
View 3 RepliesI updated Windows 10 the day after it was released, and all was going fine, until the sound just cut off as I was watching a video. I have zero sound coming out off my speakers, or the PC when I plugged my headphones directly into the green port on the back of my PC's motherboard. I've tried everything from updating drivers to different connected devices, but I can't find the problem or how to fix it. I've tried updating the sound drivers for Windows 10, but it hasn't fixed anything. It's not like the sound didn't work when I updated, it was working with Windows 10 until it just cut off, and hasn't come back on since.
View 1 RepliesI upgraded my HP laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Since then I've noticed a strange problem with the sound. It will cut out without warning--if I'm watching a video on YouTube the sound will cut out midway through but the video keeps playing. Or sometimes the video also freezes. iTunes will not play music or video at all when this happens. Restarting the computer will fix the problem, but it happens almost every day and I'd rather find some way to keep it from happening again.

Now if i want to plug my earphones to the left side of the computer where the audio jack socket is located the sound does not transfer to my earphones except i will change the default sound device from speakers to headphones.
How can i set it to automatically when i plugin my headphones/earphones/external speaker automatically transfer the sound to this device without changing the settings?
I just bought this sound card and installed drivers for Windows 10. (and a crapton of bloatware with UI of Win XP media player...)
Everything works well except one thing: when I change the sound (or mute) I don't see Windows 10 volume bar. I mean these:
The sound itself changes, but there is no indicator. Is there a way to fix that?
I just installed the most recent windows 10 tech preview last night; but my sound blaster pci express sound card did not get installed correctly or something because i am getting no sound at all. I roll everything back to the old setup.
View 9 RepliesI just upgraded to Windows 10 on my Lenovo ThinkPad. I like the new features but it seems something is "blocking" my internet connection. After reboot, I can access the internet for a couple of minutes before the connection is lost again.
I am still connected to my wireless network. All ping requests fail. ipconfig/release -> ipconfig/renew does not restore the connection.
Upgraded old laptop (HP Pavilion dv2225) to WinX and everything works except for sound. Device Manger (Win key+ X) shows no missing drivers for sound. Used to play AoK under Win 7.
View 2 RepliesMy power scheme is set to lock the screen after 4 minutes, turn display off after 5, sleep (S3) after 10 (hybrid sleep disabled). Auto-sleep usually works a few times after reboot, but then fails: no screen lock, no display off, no sleep. No new apps have been launched in the meantime. Then, perhaps an hour later, auto-sleep starts to work again for a few times, then fails again. (Manually suspending or resuming the PC always works properly.)
Powercfg /requests consistently lists nothing in any category. Powercfg /lastwake just shows the keyboard activity that I used to wake the computer from its last sleep. The network adapter's wake-this-computer box is deselected in the device manager. Media streaming is not enabled. There is no homegroup. Dism scanhealth and checkhealth show no errors. Checking the system drive and all data drive shows no errors.
I've tried restoring the default power settings for all plans, then reestablishing my own settings, but the problem persists.
Manually putting the PC to sleep is not a viable workaround, in part because the PC wakes for some scheduled tasks (especially overnight) and needs to go back to sleep (which it isn't doing).
Latest updates, drivers, and BIOS are all installed. Motherboard is ASRock Z77 Extreme4.
There are tools to show what keeps a PC from sleeping when idle (powercfg /request), and to show what wakes an idle PC (powercfg /lastwake). But are there any tools to show what keeps an idle PC from being recognized as idle?
Roughly every hour I get a Cmd window popup that lasts a couple tenths of a second. Some text appears line after line in the window and, as I said, it vanishes. I checked the event log right after the last one and found a appropriately time stamped event in the Security log. Here is the data from the log.
A security-enabled local group membership was enumerated.
I upgraded to W10 on the 31st July and all well apart from intermittent stoppages in File Explorer.
There have been 4 stoppages over this period and an identical one at boot up this morning.
It is reported in Reliability Monitor although I have neither seen or experienced any problem in running File Explorer.
Reliability Monitor gives no error details and auto reports have been sent to Microsoft. I did do a restart in Task Manager yesterday but it occurred again this morning. However in Event Viewer I saw the following for this morning stoppage:

After months of ignoring your apps for upgrading to Windows 10. I finally said ok and download it to my computer. Now it keeps shutting down intermittently. Even when I am doing important work it shuts down right in the middle. It also keeps telling me that 70% of my drivers are outdated.

What gives? I have 4GB RAM and that's all my PC will hold, unfortunately. Is Windows 10 gobbling up memory?
I've had an ongoing problem since upgrading to Windows 10. And I'd like to stress that I never had this problem on Windows 7, only on Windows 10. Basically, my left mouse button works fine, but my right mouse button works only intermittently. This is very noticeable in while gaming, in particular with Skyrim, where when I hold down the RMB it seems to stutter or start and restart. I also have the issue with having to right click multiple times in programs like Microsoft Word to bring up the context menu and when right clicking on the desktop I get the near endless loading pointer.

Edge, Firefox & Chrome work intermittently. After some time, that's not consistent, searches stop working. Solutions include deleting all browsing data (sometimes works) and rebooting (always works to this point). This intermittent problem only occurs with my Dell laptop. I have two other PCs that don't have this issue.

Two behaving quite well, however one machine ABit IP35 Pro, 256 SSD, 1 TB hard drive, Nvidia 750 ti, 8 GB ram just intermittently just hangs up during operation. This is a very fast machine with a quad Intel Processor. This machine ran perfectly with all of same hardware on Win7 Pro. You can just move the cursor to send an email and we get the little blue circle and the machine is hung. It is not program dependant! Same thing can happen working in any browser.
View 4 RepliesI got a new laptop in December 2015 that came with Windows 10. It is currently running version 1511 10586.104. I have updated the BIOS and graphics driver, all are current from the mfg. I have had an ongoing problem with applications crashing when they access the file system. When uploading images to my website using Chrome, when uploading images to Facebook, when importing or opening files in CorelPhotoPaint x7. The problem does not happen every time. I can upload 10 or more images before it happens. When it does, the application crashes when I click to select the file to open.

Updated to Win 10 from Win 7 in Oct 2015. I have had intermittent problems with Live Mail starting, ever since. I updated the version to 2012. It will work for a few days then it will not start. I try to repair and I will get a message that it cannot be repaired while running. I will shut the computer down, immediately repair then open and it will work for a few days. I have also restored to earlier dates, prior to the latest updates. Again, it will work for a few days. When it will not start I get the Ox80041161 error code. I decided to try the Windows 10 mail app but it will not accept my password. I will input my password and immediately a message comes up I need to update my password. When I attempt to update, I can see my original password has been changed.
View 5 RepliesSound comes through perfectly fine on my laptop's built-in speakers. However, when plugging my headphones into the 3.5mm headset jack, there is no sound whatsoever. The system recognizes that my headset is plugged in. In fact, the microphone on my headset functions perfectly when plugged in, but the headphones themselves are outputting no sound.
I tested the headphones on other computers and devices, and they work. In Device Manager, the device is listed as "Realtek High Definition Audio". However, the only sound device listed in Control Panel is "DTS Audio Control Panel".
I've tried uninstalling the audio device from Device Manager, and then reinstalling the driver from Realtek's website. However, this is met with the exact same results... no sound through the headphones, and "DTS Audio Manager" is installed in the Control Panel instead of Realtek HD Audio Manager.
If I navigate to Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback, "Headphones" is not listed as a device. Instead, Speakers/Headphones is listen as the sole device. Also, I ran DirectX Diagnostic Tool, and it returned absolutely no errors.

There used to be a sound option in my taskbar like everyone remembers, but I had recently installed X-Split and that is the last time I remember seeing it there. I have been on the forums and Google looking for answers but everything I find tells me to go to the settings and hit enable all. This was already checked off but even trying to select individual tasks it's not there.
Need to restore the option, volume is stuck at 37% and can't change it so I've had to use my neighbor's DJ equipment just to watch netflix at something I can hear.I went one setting down to Turn system icons on/off and sound is greyed out can't adjust that.
I am currently using Windows 10 and I notice that my Realtek High Definition audio does not have a "sound enhancements tab" how do I add this feature?

So I right click my "SPEAKERS" icon (I'm wearing headphones) I click SOUND, then I click the SOUND tab, and the "test" icon is greyed out, meaning I can't click it. I haven't had sound in 3 days and nothings muted.

View 6 RepliesI have a fresh install on my PC and for some reason it doesn't detect my headphones, I've plugged them in the front and rear and still no luck, all drivers and software are up to date, They did use to work before the fresh install.
