Drivers/Hardware :: Suddenly Got Popping Sound And System Shut Off
Sep 6, 2015
Last evening as I was on my system like normal; all the sudden I got a popping sound and my system shut off. I then tried to turn it back on and it won't power back on even though I can see power is getting to the system board because there is a power and reset button on the board that are lit up. I just let it rest over night and tried again just now but it still will not power on. Does this sound like a power supply issue?
I use shadowplay to record gameplay videos, mostly racing sims. However it seems to be passing on my Realtek HD eq preset and volume setting instead of bypassing it like it used to.
Heres an example of a video of what it should sound like: Assetto Corsa: Shelby Cobra 427SC on Longford 67 at 60fps - YouTube
Heres an example of what it currently sounds like: Assetto Corsa Dream Pack 2: Ford GT40 - YouTube
I I thought it might be Shadowplay itself so I reinstalled the drivers but that didn't work, nor did downgrading to older drives. I then tried other capturing software like OBS, and Windows10 built in recorder, and they pick up the eq in their videos as well so it's doesn't appear to be an Nvidia specific issue.
So for some reason it's no longer bypassing the eq when recording. I haven't changed any settings and only updated the Nvidia driver when it came out a few days ago. I use the optical output from my mobo to my Logitech z680 speakers. I am not using a mic. To be clear audio when playing games or listening to music via iTunes or Spotify etc sound just fine, it's only when I record gameplay that the issue crops up.

Heres a DxDiag report :
Btw heres a DxDiag report .

I'm having a myriad of issues after upgrading to Windows 10. I'll list them below along with what i've already done to resolve:
- Computer won't shut down.
Someone told me to disable something with the Gigabyte process on the Motherboard, didn't work. I click on shut down and the computer restarts instead.
- No sound except EXTREMELY low sound on headphones.
I've already tried installing the Windows 10 Realtek HD drivers but nothing seems to work. Eventually I somehow got the headphones to play sounds but is is incredibly low even fully maxed out. All devices show that they are "working" correctly. Also, when I test it, I can see the green bar moving as if sound is playing, but no sound in any speakers / headphones I hook to the computer comes out.
- Less important issue but the "search" bar in the bottom doesnt ever return any results, ever. It just sits there indefinitely.
I just upgraded to Windows 10 a few days ago and ever since, I've been getting a random popping noise in my speakers. I have tried everything I can think of. I've updated my drivers and my Bios. (From HP site) I've uninstalled and reinstalled the audio (Realtek) driver. This problem never happened in Windows 8. I'm about to switch back to Windows 8.
Specs OS: Windows 10 Pro GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti CPU: Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E Quad-Core 3.6GHz MOBO: ASRock X79 Extreme 6 RAM: Mushkin 8GB DDR3 1600 Display: ASUS PB287Q Sound: Creative Sound Blaster Zx with DT 770 PRO 350OHM
My problem I believe is Windows 10, I've googled like no other but I can't seem to fix the issue. I set my PC up for easy wipes, because of this I did clean installs of 10 then to 7 and then back to 10. Windows 7 did not give me this issue. So onto the issue: I get weird popping sounds in my headset and what I can only describe as momentary episodes of extremely rapid stuttering, there is FPS drops that I can see sometimes, not sure if it's the stutter or par to the issue. Sometimes I can open up a game like League or Warframe and not have any issues. Sometimes the issue will pop up mid-game, late-game, or simply just randomly. I can be watching youtube at my desktop and it will start. Sometimes it starts with Windows.Just to be clear, the sound issue is on W10, I didn't have this issue on 7. I am nearly 100% sure it's not the headphones as they sound absolutely glorious in 7 and sometimes with 10 (when the issue isn't happening). Some issues that I don't really think are related but I've noticed since the upgrades:
- On W7 I had some start-up issues, happened 2 or 3 times, didn't stick long enough with 7 to find out. - In some games, the resolution is messed up in that I've got a box that my mouse cannot pass that is smaller than my resolution (resolution is set to 4k). I can see the entire game, but my mouse can only go so far. This is fixed by restarting the program (sometimes). - Watching Twitch in full screen drops FPS. - Something that makes me wonder if W10 hates 4k resolution is that VERY often programs like TeamSpeak and Steam don't stick to where I place them.
They'll be reset in random locations throughout my desktop.I think it has something to do with Creative. I've heard a lot of talk about how great their tech is and how poor their software is.
since I couldn't find any way to stop this thing from constantly showing up at every boot , even after ALL settings for it were "OFF" I decided to go another route. It was really beginning to bug me. I had to close it manually each time to get rid of it.
I opened the system 32 folder in Windows, found the narrator.exe did a right click and took ownership of it and changed all security settings to full control, than re named the thing using a - in front of the name and saved it.
that did it and now its gone!
if I really ever wanted to use it I can always reverse the name back.
Sometimes when I power down or restart I get a sound that is usually used when there is a problem. I looked up the sound and its the standard "Critical Stop" sound. This only happens sometimes but even if it does occur the system still either shuts down or restarts properly.
Ever since I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10, I've been experiencing brief audio popping/cracking noise. Sometimes I could go an hour and not hear anything, other times I hear a pop every 30 seconds. There has to be sound playing for the popping to occur. Its brief, but can get annoying when listening to music.
I have tried many things including: -Updated drivers (Realtek HD Audio)(AMD GPU drivers)(Realtek Network Card) -Tried disabling Realtek HD Audio since it doesn't effect USB audio -I do not have a WiFi card so its not that -Its not a DPC Latency issue; No spikes from LatencyMon -Disabled sound enhancements from playback devices -Its not the headphones themselves as they work fine on other sources -I tried an old set of ear buds that weren't USB and they seemed to work fine so it may just be USB audio.
I do have a Dell XPS 435t/9000 that's about 4 years old with some hardware changes like PSU/GPU etc., maybe its the motherboard? (Though that's kind of a stretch). Dell says that certain computers don't support windows 10 upgrade, but I feel like that's just so they don't hold you responsible if you do upgrade, as everything else works perfectly.
Sometimes, when I shut down or restart Windows 10 64-bit, just before the screen turns black it makes the critical stop sound effect. It does not effect anything, the whole shut down process is like 3 seconds, which I really like in Win 10.
Nevertheless it bugs me a bit, I also had this sometimes in Win 7. I'm not running any programs while shutting down, it would notify me if I did.
Something weird just happened on my system. I was in a game and it was a bit laggy. There was a beep and the screen froze. I exited the game with alt-f4 and my screens turned black except the mouse pointer. I could use my mouse pointer but everything else was moving sluggish so I force rebooted my system. When I did it did a few updates on startup, but there was no history of what the updates were. When I logged in everything looked fine, but my color theme went from burnt orange to hot pink.Should I be worried about someone remoting into my system or was this something like the maintenance starting?
The Conexant HD Audio Sound Driver was replace by High Definition Audio Device after i update to Windows 10 Home Version 1511 from 1011
Now if i want to plug my earphones to the left side of the computer where the audio jack socket is located the sound does not transfer to my earphones except i will change the default sound device from speakers to headphones.
How can i set it to automatically when i plugin my headphones/earphones/external speaker automatically transfer the sound to this device without changing the settings?
Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Then when I restart the system warns me that the last shutdown did not work properly and it gives me a choice to troubleshoot or restart. When I choose restart everything seems to load as normal.
I go to shut down the system screen goes off as if windows 10 has shut down but power is still to all systems fans are running all lights are on...... What the heck is going on and I've changed the power supply too.
I just installed the most recent windows 10 tech preview last night; but my sound blaster pci express sound card did not get installed correctly or something because i am getting no sound at all. I roll everything back to the old setup.
So I put together a new PC running Windows 10 Pro around 3 months ago and everything was working perfect till 2 days ago when my mic suddenly stopped working. I use a Steelseries Siberia V2 headset and the headphones work fine, but the mic is not picking up any noise at all. I tried plugging in both the back and front ports and my realtek always detects that a mic has been plugged in, but it simply won't work. I thought maybe my mic got busted so I also tried using an A4 Tech headset that I had lying around in the office but it has the same issue, the mic won't work. I looked around online for possible solutions and tried the following with no luck:
Ensured the mic was set as the default device and that its volume settings were maxed out.Tried disabling all sound effects (noise suppression, acoustic echo cancellation etc).Uninstalled all audio drivers and reinstalled the latest realtek drivers on my motherboard's webpage: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1151 - GA-Z170MX-Gaming 5 (rev. 1.0)
Uninstalled all audio drivers and reinstalled the latest realtek drivers on realtek's own webpage: RealtekUninstalled all audio drivers and let Windows auto-install drivers.I even uninstalled all realtek drivers and tried using the standard "high definition audio device drivers."
Basically tried everything in this link: Microphone Not Working in Windows 10? | Win 10 FAQ
The conclusion was the same with everything I tried, the sound worked fine in both my speakers and headphones, but the mics simply didn't work. What's strange is that it just stopped working out of nowhere. I didn't install any new software or hardware or make any changes prior to the issue. Just turned the PC on one day and boom, mics not working.
I've attached screenshots of what my mic settings looked like with the realtek drivers and without.
My CD/DVD burner disappeared from the File Explorer, Device Manager, and Computer management two days ago. Today I found it in the device manager by looking under "hidden devices". Following instructions from the Microsoft site I uninstalled the driver and restarted the computer as instructed but this failed and now the device doesn't show under the Device Manager-DVD/CD-ROM devices. I have googled all over to find a driver for it. {Lite-on iHAS324-09A} . Even Lite-on wants me to buy a program to detect and update my drivers and if Lite-on has the drivers on site I sure can't find any. I expect that I could likely buy a new CD/DVD burner just as cheap. I downloaded a couple but have yet to see the CD/DVD burner listed. I am dual booted and it did show In Linux Mint and I could look at a CD's contents. I have spent hours on this and now am completely lost as to what to do next.
Today my keyboard stopped working, there was a usb error message pop up but i didn't realise what it was about, then then my k70 corsair keyboard stopped working, i tried restarting and doing an sfc scan but nothing changed, then i started looking into device manager but all the drivers were up to date so i tried reinstalling the HID keyboard driver but nothing changed, i then looked into the event viewer and found the issue (attached screenshot)
For some reason two finger scroll just stopped working even though it was working about an hour ago. Why it changed or what i did to change it. I tried entering the control panel, mouse, then synaptics settings, and enabling vertical scrolling, but that didn't seem to fix the problem.
I'm running Windows 10 Home on an ASUS Q551LN 2-in-1 laptop which originally came with Windows 8.1.
When I shut down/restart/sleep the machine, it does not shut down - the Hark Disk activity light is still blinking and the normal power button press does not work. If I do nothing, it remains in this state for hours. I need to press the power button for 5 seconds to reset it. Only then I can start the laptop.
This happens around half the times. The other half it works normally. I never had this problem with the OEM 8.1 on this machine.
Based on other threads - I have the latest Windows 10 updates, and disabling fast boot did not solve the problem.
Upgraded old laptop (HP Pavilion dv2225) to WinX and everything works except for sound. Device Manger (Win key+ X) shows no missing drivers for sound. Used to play AoK under Win 7.
All was good when we first uploaded windows 10 but suddenly all sound has failed although system says the devices are working. Also the CD / DVD had stopped working whilst again the system tells me all is fine.
I created system image backup file at least once a week. I did one yesterday, and today I needed to run it to restore my system. To my horror, I cannot find way to run it. I ran system image backup restore multiple times. I know how to do it...... until today. Today, by the time I clicked Troubleshoot option, there is no Advanced Options to choose from. Instead it sent me to Startup Settings option where I could go to safe mode etc,
I ended up running a system restore. Good thing I do create restore point religiously. But, after system restore, I still have the same problem.......... cannot restore image by using system image backup.
adding............... I went to my other laptop running Win 10 Pro, I had no trouble running system image restore.
For some unknown reason, the system icon for sound no longer displays on my task bar. I went into Properties, Notification area 'Customize', Turn System Icons On or Off, see that the Volume is turned off, but it's greyed out and I can't turn it on. I can't figure out how to activate this switch so I can flip it on.
