Drivers/Hardware :: USB Device Not Recognized Notification
Nov 9, 2015
I plugged in my USB drive and I get notification USB device not recognized. In This PC it shows but it looks like this:When I right click to try and format it, nothing happens. I also tried renaming the drive letter, nothing. I tried many USB fix tools, such as, USB drive defender, Flobo, mUSB Fixer, USB Refresh, USBFix 2016, and most of them didn't even see the device in the list. It's SanDisk Cruzer 16GB.

When I plug a USB3 flash drive into either USB3 port the message is Windows does not recognize it.
If I plug the same drive into another computer USB3 port everything is fine.
If I partially plug the drive in so that it only hits the USB2 contacts it works fine.
If I plug it into a USB2 port it works fine.
The drivers are installed. I uninstalled them and let it reinstall - same thing.

Just upgraded from Windows 7 to windows 10 --all working well except continually get message " USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED ,the last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it "I have gone into Device manager and see the yellow icon next to "unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed ) I have tried deleting it, disabling it , updating the drivers and still get this stupid error message. Which USB caused the problem . No usb presently connected. I will not update other 2 computers to 10 if I cannot get this resolved. Was not a problem with Windows 7

I just got a notification which said to finish installing device software. How can I find out what device software the notification was referring to? There aren't any yellow flags in Device Manager, and Windows Update and Windows Update MiniTool didn't find any updates.

I am running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on a Lenovo T420 laptop and use the following two monitors in extended display mode:
1.) ASUS PA238Q connected via DisplayPort (Primary Display)
2.) Samsung Syncmaster 245BW connected via DVI (Secondary Display)
The display of the monitors works perfectly, it's just that when I start windows, the audio comes through my laptop speakers. Under "Playback devices", it lists the ASUS as "Not plugged in." If I either power-cycle my ASUS or disconnect and re-connect the displayport cable, the monitor is detected as plugged in under "playback devices" and the audio comes through the speakers attached to the ASUS monitor.
I have a Intel HD Graphic 3000 card and the Intel HD graphics app correctly recognized my monitors by their true model #. Device Manager has my laptop display (LCD 1600x900), SyncMaster 245B/245BW/245BPlus(Digital) and Generic PnP Monitor listed (instead of ASUS PA238Q). There do not seem to be any drivers for the ASUS monitors off their site that I could find.

i have my ASUS X555LD for almost a year now, so as far as date is concerned my laptop shouldn't be too old to suffer such illness. So it came with Win8.1 x64 of course and just recently, as soon as Windows 10 was released, i upgraded quickly.
but right after i upgraded to Windows 10, my laptop became ill and had this errors:
1. i got BSoD Most of the Time, one would say CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED or UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION. there are times my laptop would freeze in the BSoD, not even the 0% would move to 100%. so i had no other choice but to force shutdown it, and sometimes after turning my laptop on again i end up at my BIOS with no HDD nor BOOT ENTRY listed. as i experimented, i had to press slightly hard on the right side of my Laptop where my HDD is Located just for my Laptop to re-read my HDD once again, as soon as i got back to Windows 10, i ran an HDD Check and nothing was wrong, no bad sectors or anything. this is confusing me as to how it is happening. so i somehow got used to BSoD since my Laptop frequently experience it. sometimes just a simple movement that would shake my laptop would turn into BSoD again, i suspect something like my HDD or loose or the likes. i dont really know.
2. after the BSoD Case, a week or three i guess. i started to loose Audio Ability. it was just this morning, the Volume Icon has a "RED X" on its icon and states "No Audio Output Device is installed.". and after checking my Device Manager, to my surprise the Built-in Audio Device (Realtek) is not there. i don't know how or why it happened but i can't get it back.
even checking the sound tab on the control panel doesn't bring out Audio Devices.
i was wondering if ASUS or the PC Store where i bought my Laptop would fix it for me as per warranty is involved ?

I recently put my camera memory card into my computer to download photos. I couldn't open them and need to leave so hit "remove device" figuring that I'd go back later when I had more time to get them. When I went back and reinserted the card it didn't show up. I've tried to "add a device" but it still doesn't work. When I hit the device and printers icon it doesn't show up. What do I do?

Yesterday I inserted a CD to install driver for my new headset. The CD-R open, close normally and I also heard the CD spinning. But not thing happened in my laptop at all. I checked This PC: no CD drive (before upgraded to win 10, I had installed win 8.1 and the CD dive was drive F). In Device Manager, there's no CD/DVD ROM section, even i had checked Show hidden device in View tab.I tryed every methods found online, but not fixed. Here's the details:
1. Try ALL METHODS in this link: [FIX] Optical Drives (CD/DVD) Icon Not Showing in My Computer Window - AskVG
-> nothing
2. Try to uninstall Channel 0 and 1 under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller. But as you can see in the picture above: there are no Channels under IDE...Controller. Tryed to uninstall Intel(R) 8 Series...Controller and rebooted, nothing happen
3. Try to update drivers using IOBit Drivers Booster PRO but all drivers are up-to-date.

I installed Windows 10 as an upgrade to Windows 8. My Dell laptop does not see the DVD drive. I had no success getting the drive to work in Windows 8 and (maybe of course) it doesnt see it now. This seems to be a common problem I have tried numerous fixes but have not had success. What is the latest and greatest solution?

It really isn't my day. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and previously my DVD/CD Drive was working perfectly. Now, nowhere on my PC, and I mean nowhere, is my DVD/CD drive recognised as existing. There is no DVD drive showing in Device Manager or in Settings>Devices.
I have taken the side panel off my PC and all cables are properly plugged in.
I have not tampered with the BIOS at all.

I have recently upgraded to Windows 10 and alll is working well except for the CD/DVD drive does not automatically recognise a CD when its inserted. With previous Windows 7 when I put a music CD in drive wiith itunes open then itunes would ask if i wanted to import CD.
The CD/DVD is recognised in Device Manager and says that it is working properly. the only way I can get the CD to be recognised after inserting the CD is by going to the Device Manager and double clicking the CD/DVD line to open 'properties'. At that point itunes asks me if i want to import.
The drive is a Samsung SH-223L.
Autoplay is ON

I've recently upgraded to Windows 10 and I'm facing a problem: in the startup one of the HDD is not recognized.. I have to push the reset button and when Windows starts again then the HDD is recognized as normal and everyting goes OK.
But I'm getting tired of this routine.. everytime I need to use the computer I have to make the startup twice.
For more details.. I have Windows installed on a SSD HDD, then I have a SATA HDD and a third IDE HDD which is the one with the recognition problem.. I don't understand why the IDE HDD is not recognized in the first startup...

The DVD drive worked fine prior to installing Win 10 - now the computer doesn't recognize it. Win 10 apparently thinks it is a removable drive. The CD-DVD drive is recognized in BIOS.
How do I diagnose the problem?

When I plug in the cable for the Canon LBP6000/6018 printer in my new Lenovo 100 I get a message that it isn't recognized. I've used two different cables with the same result. My printer does not show up on the Devises screen. The printer worked perfectly on my old computer with Windows 7. I even converted my old computer to 10 and got the same error message, so the issue is with 10. How do I get my printer to work on 10? It's only a year old, so I won't replace it.

I have a SATA-1 TSSTcorp TS-H653 (not sure whether it is an F, G, H etc.) CD/DVD writable drive in an Inspirion 537s. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Ultimate, but the drive is not recognized by the OS. However, the drive does show up in BIOS. I have searched and cannot find a driver for this drive.

I updated my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10, as an update not by formatting and reinstalling. I realized that the webcam is not recognized anymore, in the system info under problematic devices there is a:
Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1C2D
PCIVEN_8086&DEV_1C2D&SUBSYS_11471043&REV_053&11583659&0&D0
This device is working properly. In the device manager I can see the device above listed with an exclamation mark.
The Laptop is an Asus N53SV.

When I start itunes a box comes up that says "An ipod has been detected but it could not be identified properly..." and then goes on to give instructions what to do. I have followed those instructions. I have also been to an Apple store and my ipod is up-to-date as is my itunes software.
The ipod will note be recognized. Further, all podcasts contained on the ipod that I have already listened to now have a symbol against them and cannot be replayed. I use my ipod all the time and am extremely annoyed that to date no solution that works has been provided.
Another problem with Windows 10 is with already purchased "Big Fish" games. The games appear so big that I cannot see the bottom of the screen to be able to play properly. I wish I had never upgraded to Windows 10.

I updated W7x64 to W10 Pro x64. The machine is WXP generation notebook. My problem is that the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG is not recognized or Network and Sharing Center - Change Adapter Settings does not list this adapter. The Device Manager does show the adapter but with exclamation mark. What I have done so far are uninstalling/reinstalling the adapter and installing the drivers in compatibility mode.

I just 'upgraded' to Windows 10 yesterday from 7. Windows 7 has a generic photo upload program that activated when I hooked the camera up. Windows 10 does not recognize my camera in G drive.
Is there a generic program available to upload photos? Samsung support says they do not support Windows 10.
