View 2 RepliesI have a Dell Latitude E6520 running Windows 10 Pro x64. When I try to watch YouTube I get no audio. Spotify plays and gives no errors but doesn't have sound. When I plug in headphone sound plays but as communications headphones.
When I try to play a test sound through Speakers/Headphones I get an error that says "Failed to play test tone." When I try to troubleshoot it can't identify the problem. I have attached the report from troubleshooting.
Whenever I'm trying to change my sound default format my speakers won't work, and whenever I press test (next to the format) it is showing me this error text: Failed to play test tone. Nomatter what i do (restore defaults, change input, even reset the whole pc etc.) the speakers won't work. They only work after occasional start-ups.Though i would really like to have a better sound format and I've been having this problem for a week now(since i re-installed my synapse cause it wouldn't open).By the way I'm using a realtek onboard sound card(but I have the same problem on my usb ports too).
View 1 RepliesMy system had 2 blue screen the past few weeks, so I decided to try to check for eventual hardware and software problems, I started by running a stress test with ROG realbench since my CPU is overclocked, it gave me an error already(program stopped working), so after doing more tweaking(increasing voltage), then I finally put back the default speed because it wouldn't even start, although at the beginning it crashed right away when I clicked start, and after putting more voltage, it starts and works for a bit and then the PC just hangs, and it still does it at stock speed.. which is quite weird ! it also did it with cinebench, but the strange things is I played numerous hours of starcraft 2 without problem, also I wasn't doing anything when the blue screens happened.
I ran a windows memory test, no errors detected (haven't ran memtest though..) I also did a sfc /scannow and it didn't detected anything wrong.. I'm starting to think it's more related to windows than hardware.
I'll put a screenshot of the past blue screens :
I updated my computer to windows 10. when I upgraded and played audio, video on local computer or on any website. I could not hear music/ sound. when I play audio file through Windows Media Player, I get following error.
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."
And when I play audio file using Groove Music. Can't play. We can' find an audio device for your PC Make sure headphones aor speakers are connected. For more infor search your PC for "Manage audio device".
0xc00d36fa ( 0xc00d36fa) |Close| (button).
When I go to manage audio device. I play test tone. and get message box saying that "failed to play test tone".
While try to write a path for addons such as a game, there is no user available in the folder?
View 3 RepliesI had hoped Windows 10 corrected the "rename user account" function but nope. I renamed a User Account due to conflict on the LAN [same name, same spelling] and sure enough, now I have two names for the account, one a slightly hidden original name, and permissions issues. To rid it, I will create an all new Administrator account, move everything over, and demolish the old. How to do? the docs/files are easy... the settings for apps etc are not as I recall
View 1 RepliesI upgraded my kids' computer to Windows 10. It had an administrator account (for me to set things) and two separate user accounts for my daughter and my son.
I made the *mistake* of logging into Chrome with my Gmail acct ID while on my Daughter's user account.
Now, it's no longer her account. It has a password (It never had a password before). And instead of her name, it's literally my gmail account name.
I need to take some time to clean out the user account settings, but she has her steam, minecraft and other settings on her account. I don't really want to trash it and make a new one.
My user account in linked with my outlook account therfore my user account has the same name as my name under my outlook account. Is it possible to change the name on the laptop without changing it on outlook?
View 4 RepliesI started a clean install yesterday and after today I am trying to install another user profile.
I went to settings; Accounts; Family and other users; Add someone else to this PC; and all I get is "Something went wrong".
After I installed Windows 10, I created a Microsoft online account to see what it was like. During the process, it changed the name on my local Windows 10 user account. I used Control Panel to go to Users, but there seemed to be no way to change the name back to the original. It's the only account on the computer. Surely changing the name is possible, but how? Will I have to create a new administrator account and delete the old one?
View 4 RepliesI have multiple users on my laptop running Windows 10 Pro and when I boot it up the first screen shows me a list of those users in the lower left corner, in addition, when I am logged in I can select the start button and at the top click on my name and see a list of users allowing me to log out and log someone else in.
On my desktop running Windows s10 Pro (same versions) these are not showing either at startup or after logging in. Both devices have the same three users and both devices user settings seem to be the same.
How to get the desktop to list the users on the first screen and how to get them listed once someone is logged in? I want the laptop and the desktop to display the same information.
With one small decision, Microsoft has made me decide to revert back to 7.
What is that decision? The decision, a staggeringly incompetent one, is to automatically login the previous user on a multi-user system that has no passwords.
Yes - with W10, if you have multiple users with no passwords set, the previous user is automatically logged in at startup.
Who could possibly think that behaviour is ever desirable? It's an absolute howler.
My family and I all use the same computer. We've never needed or wanted passwords - we just want our own desktops, shortcuts etc.
It seems the only way to prevent an automatic login is to make everybody have, and enter, a password. There's no way around that, apparently. Until then, I'm reverting to W7.
On starting my laptop, my account picture, name and email are displayed as normal. However, when I enter my password (WHICH IS CORRECT - I HAVEN'T CHANGED IT!), the screen tells me 'Incorrect Password'. How can I access my account?
View 2 RepliesI have repeatedly tried to get my folders on the disk drive to agree with User Accounts setup in Control Panel.I deleted "owner" and created a Test on the disk with the owners name, "CAG".The "test" file has the correct name on it but User Accounts still has "test" while Control panel has "CAG".How can I get them to be the same?
View 1 RepliesI just installed Windows 10. I had two different user accounts. One I used for school and one I used for recreation. My user account for school has been wiped away. It does not even show up on my log in screen. I have many important documents in that account that I need. How can I get it back?
View 2 RepliesMy main user file became corrupted. I created two other users with admin privileges
When I try to log in, the Deleted user still tries to login
Netplwiz does not show the old user in the list.
How do I remove the old user from login?
How do I change user account settings so I don't have to sign in-password as I am the only user of my pc?
View 1 Repliesmy dad gives me his laptop. its windows 10. he have user acc there (administrator) and then i make a new user and the new user is administrator so my father's acc is a standard account. and then i cannot open my new user. and now i cant download anything bcs i have to have a permission from the administrator and when i entered the password, the windows cant load the data..
View 1 RepliesI need to either install windows 10 without a user account and download the drivers or install drivers on a partition that isn't going to be wiped when I refresh the operating system. This is for a client that knows very little about computing and I offered to build her a computer.
View 1 RepliesI currently have Windows 7 on my pc, and I want to upgrade to windows 10 using the included free upgrade. I just wanted to know, since I have different local user accounts, if they will stay separate on windows 10, or are users set up in a different way on windows 10?
View 1 RepliesWindows won't display my user name instead on the Start Menu and Log In screen it just shows my Microsoft Account email and again below. I've had this issue since the Insiders Preview started and made posts in the Feedback App as well. Now signing out of the MS Account and back in will resolve the issue, but as soon as I restart the PC for any reason it just defaults back to the MS Account email.
View 17 RepliesWhile on Win 7 I read that it is more secure to create another User account alongside your Admin one, and use that for day-to-day work. Apparently it stops hackers from gaining control of your machine. However, this caused a problem as I have an 256gb SSD system disk and, I think, the duplication has used up too much space, causing problems with programmes like Dropbox. If I delete the 2nd User account will I reclaim some space? If a programme is mounted on both accounts does it take up twice as much space? And, finally, is the security issue still relevant with Win 10?All my data is stored on other hard drives, so that's not a problem.Only the programmes are duplicated.
View 1 RepliesI guess since i installed windows 10 using my microsoft account, my user folder got named after my microsoft mail, or some part of it anyway. So am wondering if it's possible to rename the user folder somehow?
View 9 Replieswhen I start Windows 10, I have to sign in (without giving a password) to the last User that was signed in. In other words I don't have any options as to what User can sign in. But, when I start Windows 10, I want to be presented with a screen where I can see all the Users on my system. Then I want to be able to select which User to sign in. At the moment I'm having to log off to see this screen showing User options. Can I use secpol.msc?
