I recently updated to Win 10, and the first thing I noticed was that the sound settings were weird. Both speakers and headphone sounds work perfectly fine, but they don't automatically switch when I plug/unplug the headphones. I have to manually go into sound and set one device or another to default.
View 9 RepliesIn windows 7, when headphones were plugged into the jack on the front of the machine it would automatically switch to the headphones and mute the speakers. If you unplugged them, it would enable the speakers. How would I go about enabling this on Windows 10?

I have recently installed window's 10 and have only recently discovered a program called realtek HD Audio manager. I would like to have separate audio through speakers and headphones, but the realtek only allows me to hear audio through one audio source. is there a way to separate the two so i can have audio (music etc) and have Skype run through my headphones. this problem only occurred after installing windows 10.

My speakers work fine but when I plug in my headphones, I can't hear any sound from the headphones. The headphones do work as I use them for my desktop.
I have tried updating the sound drivers from the device manager.
I have tried removing the drivers and redownloading the audio drivers from Acers website.
I have tried 'installing' audio driver with the default windows 10 audio driver instead of the realtek one.
I have tried adjusting the sample rate in the advanced properties tab.
What can I do to get sound working in my headphones again and not just the speakers.
I am having audio problems that I have been unable to resolve. My pc specs and problem below. So since I upgraded to Windows 10 one of the biggest things that annoys me is when I plug in headphones they are not picked up by my pc and I have to manually switch to them as default audio using the Playback devices menu. On Windows 7 I had a Audio Control panel that popped up and detected the headphones.
I am also having issues with the volume sounding low throughout and terrible call quality on skype not sure if this is a separate issue, I have tried manually updating, removing & reinstalling the audio drivers from the device manager and also tried downloading the realtek windows 10 drivers. None of these have seemed to work, I have tried software that detects out of date drivers to no avail and also made sure other components on my pc are updated incase this somehow worked.

I have a scanner radio that I input to the desktop pc via a USB Port. Then the pc outputs it on the Green audio jack to a pair of desktop speakers. Works fine.
Now let's say I have another radio output which is inputted to the pc via the pc Line In Audio jack (Blue).
How can I switch between them to the speakers ? Both come up on the Speaker Icon in the bottom task tray as being enabled, but not sure how to switch which one (only) actually goes to the desktop speakers (if both radios are working).
I have a Dell Latitude E6520 running Windows 10 Pro x64. When I try to watch YouTube I get no audio. Spotify plays and gives no errors but doesn't have sound. When I plug in headphone sound plays but as communications headphones.
When I try to play a test sound through Speakers/Headphones I get an error that says "Failed to play test tone." When I try to troubleshoot it can't identify the problem. I have attached the report from troubleshooting.
I registered today to seek for a solution to this annoying problem. I have the Logitech x350 Audio system, with 6 speakers and one sub-woofer and they worked pretty well on my former OS, Windows 8.1 x64.
Now I am currently using W10 and have used the same driver as before. However, analog output has become unchangeable, just like in this image.
I really want to use all of my speakers, as I was able to before. Only two of them work properly. I tried changing them from the Playback devices in my audio panel, but that doesn't work either.
Last night I plugged in headphones to the small round jack (not the USB) and sound worked fine as Iistened to a program. When I unplugged the headphones, I cannot get any sound to come out of the computer. I've tried restarting, muting/un-muting, and I've looked at all audio settings I can find. I cannot locate headphones settings - they don't show up anywhere. I recently installed the Windows 10 update a couple of weeks ago and this is the first time I've used headphones in this jack. Wondering if I need updated drivers but can't locate and system says drivers are fine.
View 17 RepliesMy PC is the HP ENVY TouchSmart M7-J120DX with Beats Audio quad speakers and two subwoofers. After running a clean installation of Windows 10, my volume icon had an error "no audio device output" / IDT High Definition Audio Codec. The troubleshooting option did nothing. I uninstalled my audio device, and restarted my pc. My sound is back, but it seems that the middle speakers are the only ones working. My volume icon and sound device now is labeled "High Definition Audio Device" which now sounds substandard, just like those cheap tinny speakers you can find at the dollar store. How to recover my original great-sounding original speakers!
View 4 RepliesAfter a successful upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 I discovered that YouTube would not play. Fixed the video problem by running in compatibility mode .. BUT then noticed there was no sound from either speakers or headphones on my laptop. No Windows sounds, iTunes, nothing worked. Could this be a setting inadvertently turned "off' somewhere ? Up until I got YouTube working the sound was fine with Windows 10. I just don't know where to look to rectify this. Rebooting etc doesn't make any difference. I don't suspect a hardware fault, it must be an OS corruption or something.
View 3 RepliesMy default configuration is powered speakers connected via the optical output on the ZXR. So in control panel, the S/PDIF is my default device. I'd like to be able to also switch to headphones without having to change control panel sound settings. Is there a configuration that enables me to do this? It seems as if I can't have the s/pdif output my default if I want to use headphones. I'm on Windows 10 with latest software updates.I switched to using the analog outs from the ZXR and not taking advantage of the D/A converters built into my powered speakers (Vanatoo). Not the optimal situation, but it allows me to switch from speakers to headphones without having to go through Control Panel gyrations.

It's just annoying to go into playback devices and set it back to either one, so my question is that is there a faster way to do it? Also, I have windows 10...
View 1 RepliesI've got a little issue, whenever I plugin headphones (usb) I dont get sound and the sound is still going through speakers, I didn't had problem with this until the latest update on Windows, its really annoying cause everytime I want to switch to headphones I need to restart my PC. Yes I checked sound settings, the headphones are there when I plug them, there's just no sound.

What happens is my laptop speakers work fine, I plug headphones in and they work fine, then I unplug the headphones and I don't get audio anymore - it used to seemlessly switch back to my laptop speakers. I've been having no trouble with this in windows 10 since upgrading until today. I tried reinstalling the sound card driver - that didn't work. Once it gets stuck on the headphones all I can do to reset it to my speakers is to go to the device and properties > advanced > reset to default (I noticed all this does is change the bitrate in the dropdown).
View 1 RepliesMy laptop does not want to recognise the sound card/audio driver that are built into it. The fun part is this just happened. Audio played yesterday, and the time before that, and even before the upgrade. The only thing that has changed (or at least is the biggest change i can think of) is downloading and installing Cygwin (sans audio packages). In trying to play a song on the new microsoft Groove, i get this;
Further inspection in the playback devices, the only two options are the Speakers/Headphones and communications Headphones, the former of which i can only assume is my actual computer speakers (otherwise its completely gone!).Looking at the device manager, everything seems okay. All the drivers are up to date so im not sure what could be wrong there?
Its Windows 10 pro (upgraded from Win7 Pro) and the computer is a Dell Precision M4600. (I am pretty sure the audio driver is in the device manager image).

I've tried the headphones on my phone and they work, so it is the PC.
It's like the headphone jack doesn't work, but I have suspicions that it's about the drivers.
In the sound settings/playback devices, the speakers appear, but not the headphones.
Is it possible to send the audio signal of my (no smart) tv set to my Samsung Multiroom speakers and if yes, how?
View 1 RepliesI recently opted for the free Windows 10 upgrade (still debating if it was worth it) from a Windows 7. Long story short, there was a new problem every day so I just wiped everything and did a clean install hoping the old windows 7 files would stop clashing with the new windows 10 files. All went well and was working fine when boom my speakers start acting up. Don't know what I did to trigger it, it just started doing this.
Basically, when using my USB connected headset, everything runs fine, sounds nice, no problems. When I change over to my desktop speakers though, all audio and video goes into "slow motion" and makes obnoxious sounds. Computer doesn't lag, just audio and video for YouTube, games, etc.
I've tried reinstalling drivers via device manager and it says it's all up to date. I just tried installing Realtek audio driver manually and now it won't even play sound through the speakers. I know the speakers are fine because they sound beautiful when plugged into my ps4.
Update: After installing Realtek and doing a restart, the speakers are in fact making sound, but now it's also extremely quiet and scratchy. Had to crank it to max just to hear anything.
Update: May have fixed my problem, at least temporarily.
I went to device manager and deleted the speakers then restarted so that it would auto reinstall them. Seems to work fine again...
Update: As I had guessed, it was only temporary. Sound and video just started going all slow motion again. Back to square one and back to the drawing board...
I have a Fangbook III made by Cyperpower PC. I am unable to play sound via the on-board speakers for the laptop. I am however able to play sound through the 3.5mm auxiliary jack input. I have speakers set as default device under the playback settings.
This is where is gets strange. Whenever I attempt to delete the Realtek audio driver, whether it is through windows or a 3rd-party driver uninstallation software, Realtek always comes back within a few seconds. Right before it does come back, under playback, it separates speakers and headphones with both having the driver High Definition Audio Device. If I hurry before the Realtek driver comes back the speakers seems to work! But once the Realtek audio speakers comes back, the default speakers and headphones goes away and I continue to have the same problem with the Realtek driver.
I attempted to reformat the computer with windows 10 and erase all drivers but Realtek was already installed. I assume it is required for this specific laptop? How to direct the Reaktek High Definition Audio driver to use the speakers instead of the auxiliary jack?

I'm not able to turn on bluetooth on my Compaq 510 laptop. So I thought of uninstalling and re-installing my bluetooth driver, which happened to be Microsoft Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) Driver version 10.0.10586.0 ( dated 2006-06-21 ). Now I'm not able to find this driver again. I'm facing with the bluetooth.
View 13 RepliesI have 'Start' full screen. When I open programs from here, they open on the desktop and the Start screen disappears. That's how I expect it! I noticed that if I create a web shortcut on 'Start', it behaves differently. When I open it from the Start screen, it opens and I can see it on the taskbar, but I'm still looking at the Start screen; it doesn't disappear.
If I have the Start screen up, and I click on anything in Quick Launch, it's the same. They open, but focus doesn't switch to them, the Start screen stays there.If I have 'Start' not full screen, and I open that web shortcut, I see it open behind the Start menu, but the menu stays there.What I would like is to have everything behave the same. When I open anything from 'Start', I want focus to switch to the item I just opened and 'Start' to disappear. Is there a setting I've overlooked?
Sound comes through perfectly fine on my laptop's built-in speakers. However, when plugging my headphones into the 3.5mm headset jack, there is no sound whatsoever. The system recognizes that my headset is plugged in. In fact, the microphone on my headset functions perfectly when plugged in, but the headphones themselves are outputting no sound.
I tested the headphones on other computers and devices, and they work. In Device Manager, the device is listed as "Realtek High Definition Audio". However, the only sound device listed in Control Panel is "DTS Audio Control Panel".
I've tried uninstalling the audio device from Device Manager, and then reinstalling the driver from Realtek's website. However, this is met with the exact same results... no sound through the headphones, and "DTS Audio Manager" is installed in the Control Panel instead of Realtek HD Audio Manager.
If I navigate to Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback, "Headphones" is not listed as a device. Instead, Speakers/Headphones is listen as the sole device. Also, I ran DirectX Diagnostic Tool, and it returned absolutely no errors.

So last time I Disabled the head phones in the Sound>Playback device list and after that I couldn't see them on this list anymore (Even when checking Show Disabled Devices) I already tried Updating the Driver in Device Manager>Sound,Video and Game controllers>(HeadPhones)>Properties>Driver and it still didn't work , I also tried Re-Installing them from computer and Restarting the Computer and nothing worked. I don't have any panel jack Disable front detection option in Realtek HD Audio Manager
I'm on Toshiba Laptop, Windows 10 and using Logitech G930 HeadSet. No hedphones nor microphone are enabled , and i can not change it.
