Drivers/Hardware :: Volume Changing By Itself
Nov 18, 2015
What the heck is going on with the volume in Windows 10? Randomly, after unpausing the sound, the sound will be incredibly loud. As soon as I adjust the volume (even just pressing the sound increase or decrease button once) the sound volume goes back to being as loud as it should be. It is extremely frustrating when I pause and unpause and then cant hear because I am now deaf.

So when i play music on Spotify while playing a game, my volume randomly goes up and down, It only stops if i mute all of the sounds of the game, i've looked and looked in all the settings, changed the communications tab to "do nothing" and it still wants to change my volume.

I'm not sure if this is keyboard specific or set somewhere by default in Windows, but when I hit the volume up/down on my logitech K740 keyboard, it increments by 2%, but I'd like it to increment by 1%. If I manually select the volume control in windows and then press the arrow up/down keys, it goes by 1%.
how to manually set in Windows 10 the keyboard volume controls to increment by something other than 2%?

My max (100) volume on Windows 10 is about 40% of what it used to be on previous windows. I can barely hear anything on YouTube. I found about 5-6 topics on google discussing this, but none of the solutions worked. I've tried reinstalling the driver, tried changing the frequencies, nothing works. I have a DELL laptop.

I installed windows 10 using the iso option of media creation tool. I did a clean install of it. It worked fine till the time I noticed that the graphics were not installed. So I downloaded drivers for my nvidia 7025 nforce 630a (309.08-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql.exe). But when I tried to install it, after some time, the display went blank and i got an "Out Of Range error". I encountered this error in the past, so I tried to boot the system in "low-resolution mode" and then fix it. But Low Resolution mode gives me same error. Need installing the driver correctly, as the performance of the system is damn slow (as it is using microsoft's basic video driver).

The problem is that the volume of different sources of sound, for example YouTube, gets reduced if I turn another difference source of sound, for example League of Legends. So, once I play League of Legends, my YouTube music gets reduced. If I first run League and THEN YouTube, then YouTube gets reduced, if I first press PLAY on YT and then go to League, my League volume gets reduced.
I don't know what the hell is going on and I hate it. I have Windows 10 Pro and I have tried the "Do Nothing" option at sound settings. I have checked out every single tab on sound settings and nothing works.
This problem started once I installed W10, it worked fine on W7.

Okay, so I have a 3TB Seagate BUP BK External Harddrive, I recently partitioned it for some Ubuntu action. Problem is, I got rid of all the Ubuntu leftovers and now i'm not able to reunite the two parts on my HDD. However, I can do whatever the hell I want with the other two terabytes. I can partition, extend, and manipulate it however I want.

For the first time I used headphones in Windows 10 Pro, and I found the normal Fn-F6 and Fn-F7 that adjust speaker volume do not work to adjust headphone volume - nor does the slider in the task tray. I can go into Control Panel and find the speakers and adjust them, and they are set as default. But it seems to me that in past versions (I came from Windows 7) when headphones were plugged in, the audio slider in task bar adjusted them - when headphones were not plugged in, it adjusted speaker volume. Do I have to go into Control Panel every time I want to tweak headphone volume? What am I missing?

I was wondering whether it were possible to open the volume mixer instead of the volume control when left-clicking on the volume icon in the tray. At the moment I have it set to open the old classic menu, but not the volume mixer.

Sometimes when I restart my PC the volume button doesn't show up in the Task-bar. Some days its there and its fine but other days I cant seem to locate it and going in and manually disabling it and re-enabling it does nothing. The pictures below show my task-bar without an icon and the next picture shows that its on, I have switched it on and off and it does not appear.

No matter what I do the volume setting is always lowered at startup. I hope there's a setting somewhere that I'm missing. Could it be a Realtek setting/problem?

The microphone on the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 is quite loud and sensitive, so I decrease the input volume by 30% in the recording devices menu, but regardless of disallowing access to it from other programs e.g. Skype, it always seems to change back up to 91% after awhile. I'll attach screenshots of the settings I've changed in Skype/recording devices. How would I completely prevent the volume readjusting itself?

I upgraded to Windows 10 and began encountering a very strange problem with my audio. What happens is when an audio source starts playing sound, the the sound is louder than it should be - the actual volume in Windows does not change, the sound is just louder. It seems to be only the audio from that source that's louder, not any other sounds playing. This has happened when Flash sources like YouTube videos and Twitch streams load, and when I unpause music in foobar2000.
I can resolve it by simply moving the volume slider in Windows anywhere, then it will begin abiding by Windows's volume setting again. Even moving the volume up a notch will end up making it quieter from what it was. I've been uninstalling and reinstalling drivers all night

I have a default printer which is a network printer for 99% of my printing. However, I do use a local printer when printing checks.
I have the default set to the network printer and that is what I have set for the past several years through Windows 7 and now with my Windows 10 setup.
Since the latest November update, my computer keeps changing the default printer back to my local printer for no apparent reason and without notice. So when I go to print something, if I don't take care to check, I send it to print on my checks.

I'm using a current Intel NUC (NUC5i3RYH) running Windows 10 Home x64.
I have this infuriating problem which may be related to the hardware but may also possibly be fixed in the OS. I've had no success so far changing power and sleep settings in the BIOS and Device Manager. I've had no luck with Intel directly.
The symptom is that any (of two different) USB TV tuners I use seems to lose the quality of signal anything from 20 minutes to an hour after I access that channel. If I change channel and then return straight back it instantly fixes it.
any registry or other settings I could try? Alternatively some utility or task I could use to poll or wakeup the port periodically? I'm just lost on this and have spent over a month off and on trying to work out ways of making it work.

So at first, I was trying to resolve an issue with my BD-ROM drive described here: XPS 8700 - BD-ROM (HL-DT-ST DVDRW/BDROM CH20N) Not Recognized Windows 10 - Disk Drives (HDD, CD/DVD, Blu-ray) Forum - Disk Drives - Dell Community
However, when attempting to try different things, I am now in a position where I can no longer boot to Windows 10. More specifically, when I turn on my computer, I get an error saying no bootable drives found and it just lists my SATA 1, 2, 3, etc. drives with an option to restart or go to BIOS setup. In other words, I don't even see Windows anymore existing.
My basic computer specs:
Dell XPS 8700 SE
Intel Core i7-4700
Windows 10 with 1511 update
2TB hdd with 32GB mSATA SSD cache drive
16GB RAM
BD-ROM
I need to get Windows working again, and hopefully, get back my data. Here's what I did to cause the problems:
1) I went to Dell UEFI BIOS setup, and changed the SATA mode from "RAID" to "AHCI". Saved and exited BIOS.
2) After rebooting, Windows failed to load, had a consistent blue screen with the sad smiley face with error "IO1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED", automatic repair also failed.
3) I tried reverting back to "RAID" in SATA mode in BIOS, but it failed to change anything. Windows still wouldn't boot
4) I then entered into the special BIOS menu showing devices which listed my mSATA cache drive and hard drive and RAID settings. Since it showed that the cache drive was "Disabled", I thought I could fix my issues by re-creating the RAID array.
5) I tried to delete the current RAID setup shown in that BIOS menu, then chose the option to recreate the RAID0 array by selecting the option to create a "Striped Disk Array".
6) Once I did the above, Windows itself disappeared, and trying to undo the RAID0 option did not fix anything
So now I am no longer seeing Windows, not sure if my data on the hard drive still exists, and my cache drive (obviously) is not working.
doing a clean reinstall and losing all my previous data in Windows?

How can one reduce the volume (without effecting the volume of other sounds) of the sound playing when messages occur like this one at the bottom right side?
Using the sound mixer (or whatever it is called) does not work, the "Systemsounds" slider (set to "0") does not effect the volume of that messages:

my laptop's volume simply isnt as loud as it is supposed to be, or has been in the past. all settings/ controls that i can find are turned to 100 percent. And i dont mean that i want it louder than 100%, im saying that the 100% that its on sounds like what should be 50-60%. I know that it has been able to be a good deal louder in the past. So i dont know whats wrong. I am in the military and have been away from my laptop for about 3 months, but everything seems to be up to date. It is to the point where its just not loud enough to enjoy/ use to play games or watch videos. And same thing for when i plug my headphones in, it isnt loud enough then either, sounds like what should be 50 or 60%. My laptop is an msi ge72 apache pro, and runs windows 10.
