Windows 10 really likes to start up my storage drives. I have them set to sleep after one minute in the balanced power profile but not long after they spin down something else causes them to start up again.
They will eventually turn off but spin up again at a later time for no reason. I see that there is no data being written to them in task manager.
What that page is called, but when I want to change save locations, none of my drives show up. It worked before but now it just doesn't want to display anything sadly. Here are a few pictures of what I am talking about.

The thing is though, they display properly in the "This PC" Section so I know they are plugged in correctly.
I upgraded from windows 7 to Windows 10 Home 64-bit; this was never an issue on Windows 7. Basically I cannot find a way to keep my desktop in sleep mode. Multiple times it has turned on in the middle of the night, and pretty much every time I leave for the weekend I come back to find it turned on.Windows updates seem to be the issue, but lately I haven't been able to confirm this (though the notification always seems to be there when I login). I get the following when I try lastwake.My guess is that there are no details because I have Windows notify me instead of automatically updating.
I also have wake timers disabled.I thought maybe my mouse or keyboard could be the issue (though I've never had a problem with them in the past). I disabled HID-Compliant Mouse from device manager.And I unchecked the box which allows my mouse to wake my computer. After testing it out, this appears to have had no effect as my mouse can still wake the computer when I click it.
When moving Library Files and certain Users files to D: storage drive, Can Documents, Library, Pictures, and Video Folders be moved and combined to 1 main folder, with same location path? Or do they have to have different location paths and create 2 sub Documents folders under 1 main Document folder?
View 3 RepliesI am really missing the ability to easily see how much storage space is left on each of my drives. Why is this not easily seen just by opening "This PC" like it was in Windows 7. It seems like I have to click on properties in order to see disk usage.
View 6 RepliesHow to charge USB while sleeping in windows 10 I have an ASUS F554L have tried turning off allow computer to turn off this device to save power on all USB drives that had this option (only one there are 3 USB composite devices that do not have this option)....
Also tried installing AI charger for ASUS did not work....
On my main Windows 10 machine my mechanical keyboard has suddenly stopped working. The keyboard itself works perfectly fine on my other systems and laptops but seems to not work on my main one. The keyboard works on the bios screen and any other part of the start up except from the login screen which is when it seems to completely stop responding. Buttons such as caps lock and also the num-lock stop lighting up the LED's and no keys seem to work. The computer recognizes other keyboards, which is how I'm writing this post, but it seems that my expensive mechanical doesn't work on this specific machine.
The keyboard itself is one that only requires the HID Interface, so you just plug it in and it works and I've even tried uninstalling all keyboard drivers but this is still no dice. I'm not really quite sure what to do, seeing as the keyboard only seems to go wrong on this machine, and other keyboards work fine,
Trying to install Windows 10 on Thinkpad T60 2004-4AU, don't have a hard drive in it so I am using a 64GB SanDisk Glide flash drive and it does not see it, it says "We couldn't find any drives. To get a storage driver, click Load driver."
View 6 RepliesI've been using Win10 since the general release. This was an update install on a Win7 laptop.Apart from a few issues (waking from sleep on scheduled tasks, lack of control on updates) I have a problem with external devices.
If I use several USB flash drives/harddrive I'm able to eject one or two but then I can't eject any others. When this happens I don't get the menu option to eject/safely remove the device through "explorer" and the drive doesn't appear in the "safely remove" icon on the task bar. I can still access the drive without issue just don't have any way to eject except to shutdown the laptop. If I reboot the laptop but leave the device attached the eject option reappears.
The laptop is fully patched and I can't work out what is happening and google hasn't revealed any similar problems except the normal "device is in use" message.
Is there any software that can block USB storage on PC but not the mouse and WiFi adapter connected?
Also, is there a way that I can get notified in any ways when someone connects a pen drive or phone to the PC?
I upgraded from W8.1 to W10. After the upgrade my mirrored volume was 'gone' (created with disk management). Fortunately I was able to restore the data on one of the disks.
I cannot manage to recreate a mirror on Windows 10. I tried using disk management as well as Storage Spaces but I get errors when the formatting begins.
Even with new disks, all the same it does not seem to work. I can not figure out why...
I get: Cannot remove Storage Space (huh.. remove?? I am creating one!!).... Parameter is wrong: 0x00000057.
Could there be some history of the previous mirrored drive which is preventing me from creating a new one or should I just do a clean Windows 10 installation?
I want to add extra storage to my Surface Pro 3. I have 128gb on my HDD and would like to add at least another 64gb.
Would I be better with an SD card or Flash Drive?
I've about 4 SATA HDD's that I've removed from computers that I've junked -- all SATA about 12 TB.
Is it possible to build an enclosure and create a NAS drive -- I can easily make external USB drives but I think a NAS storage system would be better. What I need to do --should in theory be easy just need some sort of network card and an OS.
I had 3x 3TB drives in a parity pool. It started to fill up so i added a fourth 3TB drive and months later one of the original 3 began to fail on me. Performance was slow, then slower, then it showed disconnected.
I retired the drive and added a replacement, literally the same model 3TB drive. I cannot however, get it to remove the failed physical disk and repair the pool. I even tried adding another 2TB drive i had available in case it needed the extra space (didn't make sense but i was reaching).
I get the "drive could not be removed because not all data could be reallocated. add an additional drive to this pool and reattempt this operation."
I have searched a lot and don't really seem to be getting anywhere. The only way i was able to retire the drive was through powershell. I'm assuming it's a GUI issue and perhaps i'm not approaching it correctly via powershell. Attempting to repair virtual disk didn't work.
I really don't want to lose this data. I wasn't able to backup much before the drive failed completely.
In the Device Manager I went to Mice and other pointing devices > HID-compliant mouse > Properties > Power Management > Allow this device to wake the computer, and unchecked it. But still the mouse wakes up the laptop from sleep. Why?
View 1 RepliesHad this problem now since installing Windows 10 for the first time. Have re-installed 10+ times, from new downloaded ISO's with hash tag checks just to make sure. Have bought all new hardware as well; CPU, PSU, Mainboard, Computer case, CPU Fan (3 of them), problem still persists, is obviously a Windows 10 problem.
CPU Fan slows to almost halt after waking up from sleep/hibernation.
I have an Asus Zenbook UX303LA, and I upgraded to 10 yesterday. When I put the comp to sleep and wake it up by opening the lid, the screen begins blacking out and refreshing. Everything else seems fine--I can open apps, navigate the desktop and so on, in between the black outs. The problem has so far been solved by restarting each time. I can't find any information on this issue, so I don't know what might be causing it (driver incompatibility with 10 seems a likely culprit--this was not at all an issue with 8.1, which is what I was running prior to the upgrade).
View 2 RepliesI have a Windows 7 PC with 3 DVD drives. Imgburn shows them as connected to 3 different SATA busses: [2:0:0], [3:0:0], and [4:0:0].
After upgrading to Windows 10, all of them ended up on the same bus, [2:0:0], like this:
Why did that change? I tried connecting them on different SATA plugs, but they are always shown on that [2:0:0] bus. The thing is, I really need them to be on different busses, because of a particular requirement of a legacy application I use.
Access is denied on both drives. Just upgraded about an hour ago and I've been looking for solutions but cant seem to find any that works for me. I'm only using one account and its a Local(Administrator) account. How to give full free unhindered access to everything. Since this is my laptop and no one is going to ever use it except for me.

View 3 RepliesI've had this same issue on 3 computers I've upgraded to Windows 10 (which are the only three I've even needed to have a working disc drive on). Windows 10 will not show the disc drives anywhere. I've checked in the Device Manager and everywhere else I can look, but they don't ever show up. The drives and working and detected by the BIOS but not in Windows. I've already tired adding the popular EnumDevice1 registry value (the whole command is listed below) but it never works.
The registry key CMD command I've tried all 3 times: reg.exe add "HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesatapiController0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
So I have set up my SSD and using it for my OS (Win10) and my F drive (1TB HDD) as a drive for my programs and documents, however when I try to search for items vis Windows Start Menu it only shows items for my C drive, how to make it to search both drives for documents/files?

View 4 RepliesI have several hard drives on my PCs; some are physical, some are partitions. In every PC I've upgraded, W10 marks these as RO. I go through the ritual of setting permissions to Full and marking RW, but occasionally a drive will revert to RO. I can't find a Take Ownership option for drives, only folders. Am I looking in the wrong place?

View 8 RepliesAfter I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro everything was fine on my desktop PC. Several days went by as I learned the new OS' interface. Then I got an update message telling me that a reboot was required for the updates to take effect. Blindly I went ahead and rebooted as requested. To my astonishment after I rebooted my two DVD drives were no longer recognized by Windows 10. Mind you, they were working just fine after my initial upgrade from 7 to 10.
I tried using the registry hacks I had seen on so many of these forums. None worked.
My only fix was to do a restore to a date & time previous to the update. (Just go to control panel, select recovery and then select open system restore.
