Drivers/Hardware :: Completely Unstable / Hangs Endlessly At Random
Jul 30, 2015
No matter what I do, eventually Windows 10 hangs and never recovers, forcing me to do a hard reset. Sometimes open programs will continue to let me use them, other times not. The Start menu does not respond, however, and any new instances of any programs I try to start never actually load. There is no consistent trend to it at all. At first I thought it was a dying hard drive, but the drive is fine and the problem happens even when it's not being accessed. Then I thought it might be my USB WiFi adapter, but it's working fine as well.
I thought it might be the "the last USB device installed isn't working" notice that keeps coming up (which is amazingly unuseful since I didn't install any new USB devices) and disabled the offending USB port in Device Manager, but that did not stop it either. Windows Update has been completely useless for this as well. The last system hang I experienced happened not even 10 minutes after booting the system up.

I'm using build 10240, and in the first install, it installed the Realtek audio drivers.
The problem with these drivers is that they completely mess up the sound in my headphones.
Anyways, I've tried : Uninstalling the audio manager in control panelDeleting the oem#.infUninstalling the drivers in Device Manager
None of these work. When I uninstall it, the driver is just reinstalled when my computer reboots.

After updating my Windows 10 last night, the sound went out completely. Shortly after changing the speaker properties to 24-bit, 192000, the sound came back. However, it seems like any music I listen to no longer has any bass. Is there anything else I need to do to get my sound back to normal?

I have tried for days to remove a Bluetooth Speaker that did not install proper, I remove it try to re-pair does not pair, then upon reboot it is installed again with error. No matter how many times its removed Windows keeps re installing the device on its own.
How do you completely remove a bluetooth device, all traces so you can start fresh?
I have searched the internet for 2 days and no one has the answer yet. Not even on the MS forums

This issue is as simple as the subject line. My DVD drive was working fine under Windows 7. In fact I even installed 10 from a burned DVD. Now it is completely MIA. No exclamation-marked devices on device manager or anything. I did try a couple solutions that were supposed to work on a similar problem on 8, namely registry changes, but they did no good.

After Windows 10 installation, my cursor recycles for a split second every couple of seconds, as if it's attempting to install something, causing missed keystrokes, whether in Edge, Explorer, Word, Excel ...anything. If it appears to settle down, I just have to move the cursor and then I see the cursor recycle again. How to I get rid of this instability? It's like type-ahead back in the 1980's, even worse with all the missed keystrokes. Makes this very hard to use. Here's what it looks like:

My wifi adaptor is a TP-Link WN951N v3.2. My modem is a Netgear DG834G. My wifi speed is really unstable. Normally my maximum connections speed is 9.5mbps, but it is very very unstable. Sometimes the connection speed drops to 0.8mbps for a while. When the connection speed drops I try to ping my modem using the CMD ping command. When I get heavly speed drops I notice that the ping between my pc and my modem is 200/500ms. So really high and unstable. My other wifi devices like smartphones doesn't have problems. They works fine. Here is what I tried to fix the problem :
-Reset my modem to factory settings
-Upgraded my modem's firmware
-To change modem's wifi channel
-Clean installation of Windows 10
-Tried both manufacter driver and windows driver
-Disabled useless settings in Windows 10 like geolocalizzation
-Disabled windows firewall

i have a corsair h100 from 2012 that has been acting weirdly. it randomly boosts itself high rpm then back to normal and sometimes turns itself off. i have to shut down my computer then start it for the h100 to turn on again.
i've checked the wires and im sure they are fine. since a restart does not make the h100 to turn on again.
is this normal wear and tear on something like a processor cooler that is 4 years old? should i rma if the warranty still active?

So I just took part in the Windows 10 Insider Preview a couple of days ago, and I have to say, Windows 10 is a great step up from Windows 8, they did an excellent job so far. There's just one problem: File Explorer is extremely hard to use. Not only does the file explorer freeze all the time (even on folders with almost nothing in them), when it does freeze, it goes back to the top of the folder when it unfreezes.
What I mean is that I can be half-way down a 260-count file folder, like this:
Then it will freeze, and after it unfreezes, it goes back to the top of the folder, like so:
Doing simple tasks such as moving, copying, renaming, deleting and even scrolling and clicking causes File Explorer to freeze, sometimes even when it's idle!
And what's weirder is that the glitch doesn't happen when your opening a file for a specific program (say you click 'open' in Word and you get the 'Open' dialog box where you can pick a file).
I posted this over to Windows Feedback too, but I don't think it supports user comments, so I'm posting here to see if there's any fix. If there's any fix for this, let me know. It's been annoying me for a while now.

Having upgraded to Windows 10 I am now unable to use my computer at all as when attempts to upload the desktop it continually fails to do so, the main desktop image is loaded but as it attempts to then add the icons it goes blank for a moment and then attempts the same procedure again. This occurs about every 2 to 3 seconds. On some occasions it displays the icons momentarily but often not at all. The mouse can be moved around the screen but I am unable to do anything further with it as the blue 'wait' circle is continually displayed. The odd thing howvever is that I left themChine running overnight in the hope that it would stabilise but when I returned to it Norton was requesting an upgrade whilst the problem persisted. This box was totally functional and i was able to proceed with it, which enabled the PC to then receive updates and reboot, with the same problem however. I am now forced to switch the machine off via the power button as I cannot shut down normally.

My interent on my custom desktop, as far as I can remember, has functioned fine for a long time now. However, after upgrading to windows 10 and having it around for a while, I noticed a sharp decrease in internet speed. I've tried multiple solutions, but nothing seems to have worked. It only seemed to start occurring after installing Windows 10.
My specs:

my computer will always randomly freeze for 1-3 seconds when I do normal tasks (like using chrome and skype). The freezes cause audio and mouse to also freeze during that time.
I tried to swap CPUs, get a new mobo, use different RAM and nothing works. I've got this problem since Windows 8. But its been progressively worse. Now I also sometimes have problems POSTing and the display will turn black when I boot up to the login screen.
I used latencymon to check which drivers are causing the problem and when I disable my GPU drivers the stuttering is gone. I don't have any of these problems when using DirectX apps. My GTX 660 has the latest drivers installed.

I recently brought a new wireless network adapter for usb (Asus usb N14) and since I've started using it the connection is really unstable, I'm on the same connection on my iphone and it's just fine but on my pc it's really struggling, I've ran speed tests and it'll work fine when randomly it'll just go down, I'll still be connected to the router but have no internet. Right now looking at the wifi graph in task manager it literally going straight up for a few seconds then straight back to 0 when downloading a file, and I'm unable to download any large files because it'll just fail after about 30 seconds.
I've updated it to the latest version with no change in performance or reliability. One other thing I'm at Uni so other people will be using the connection and I've no access to the router unfortunately.

I am 1 step away from throwing my laptop out of the window!
After upgrading from windows 7 to windows 10 and experiencing a whole shitload of problems with graphic card drivers and wifi connections, I decided to clean install windows 10 by using the ISO image (DVD made with the microsoft tool). After doing this windows 10 worked reasonable, for about 1 day. After this it started to crash upon startup and it was unusable. So, I decided to do have 1 more go at it and do another clean install.
What do I get ? Now windows says that it cannot activate the damn OS and that I can 'buy a product key' in the store ... Well, it was activated automatically after upgrading, then it activated automatically after a clean install as well. Now, I did another install and it won't activate.

I first noticed this after upgrading to Windows 10, it is possible that it happened beforehand but I'm confident that's not the case.Essentially at random intervals, several minutes apart, my USB devices just hang. Most noticeably with the mouse, I get a split second where the mouse can't move and then it jumps to where it should have been when I originally moved it. Same thing happens with the keyboard but it's slightly less noticeable. I've noticed this with my headset as well which is really irritating because it still doesn't make a disconnect noise but for some reason I have to unplug and plug it back in again to get it to work.
It happens on the USBs connected directly to the motherboard but also the front ones as well. There is no disconnect noise when this happens, nothing else hangs it's just the USB devices. The first thing I did was upgrade to latest chipset drivers etc. This did not fix the issue, so I did a clean install of Windows 10 and I'm still having this problem.

I just upgraded my neighbor's computer from 7 to 10. All went well EXCEPT for a small glitch. I set it up without a password and it boots to desktop really fast. Upon her checking it out she wanted me to set up a password to keep her children from logging on to it. I did. The password works OK BUT just before the screen asking for the password the computer hangs at the time/date screen. The screen is a pic of a seascape/beach looking through a rock tunnel. I've seen this screen after a computer wakes up from sleep. It will go on if you tap a key. Any way to bypass/stop this screen from showing. She didn't have it with 7 using a password. I tried msconfig with no GUI boot but it doesn't work.

Win 10 hangs in the boot process. It hangs at the point where the login screen should be appearing. Actually it is the step before that as I don't get the picture. The system goes to a black screen and becomes unresponsive.
This used to be a dual boot machine, Ubuntu and Windows. I have the machine only trying to boot windows. The grub menu system has been removed.
Along the way I used the Ubuntu gparted. This tool is telling me that there is a corruption problem with the Windows OS partition. The RECOVERY partition looks clean.
Now if I strike f10 (I think) during the boot process I can get into the recovery menu system. If I choose to fix startup problems I can eventually get to a very scaled back version of Windows without networking. The debugging mode doesn't work and the boot logging mode doesn't work. I don't see my own account login but rather get an administrator account that seems to be built into windows. This account doesn't let me do simple things like turn on the networking.
I guess I need to create some kind of a recovery thumb drive that will allow me to boot things "normally."

Nine times out of ten the shutdown procedure on the recently installed Windows 10 O/S hangs on shutdown. The only way I can close down the system, after a suitable pause, is to turn off the current, which doesn't seem to do any harm as the system restarts normally the next time I boot it up, but it irritates me considerably.
I am running an HP Z230 tower PC with an Intel i7 processor, 8 GB of RAM, 990 GB hard disk and a 64bit O/S.
