View 9 RepliesI have four primary partitions (System, C: , D: , E: ) and some free space in my Win10 laptop. Now, I want to make create an extended partition which will hold C, D & E as logical partition. How can I do it without loosing data (i don't have a spare hard disk where I can backup the data).
View 6 RepliesI was using my machine normally when it suddenly went dead while using file explorer, no BSOD, just stopped, no cpu activity light, nothing responsive. I had to power off at the PSU and then re-start which it did.
A few hours later I went to access files on an external drive (a 300Gb Seagate) and it did not show in explorer.
I looked in the Windows Disk Management utility and saw my previously functioning drive is now listed as "Healthy (Recovery Partition)". Right click on the disk description gives "Convert to dynamic disk" as the only ungreyed option and greyed out RAID configuration options. I don't have RAID enabled in BIOS, I did earlier this year.
I used this drive for backups and I think I had an emergency boot from dos file set in a folder. Could Win have scanned that and re-configured ??
In Properties, it gives no indication of used and free space, and shows it as having a Master Boot Record partition style.
In 32 years of computers, I have not come across this before, so, do not know what to do to get my data back. Its one of several weird problems since doing a Win 7 to 10 upgrade
I used a SSD to put the OS and other required things. I received my hard drive a few days later and just connected it. How to set up my new hard drive as the primary for installed applications, such as games. I would still like to use the SSD for my more necessary applications, but want the hard drive for large files. I am on windows 10 btw
View 1 RepliesNoticed this #2 partition, (128MB), on my lappy, is it serving any purpose? Best way to include it in the C: partition
View 9 RepliesAfter I free upgraded from 8.1 to 10 a new partition showed up. I just deleted it and it became unallocated space.
How can I merge this space with my primary partition. Both are on a 256 SSD.
When I right click C: in disk management, the extend volume choice is grayed.
So I recently formatted my Windows 8.1 system and installed Windows 10. But it seems that the setup decided to set my System parition to a separate HDD (G: ) and put the bootmgr and all the boot files there, instead of using the left-over 350MB System Reserved partition on my primary SSD that Windows 8.1 had used. So of course now if I removed that disk, I wouldn't be able to boot anymore.
So what'll be the best way to move all of the boot files and system partition setting back to my old 350MB System Reserved partition? Will I need to disconnect all the other drives and do a repair install of Windows 10? Or can I manually move the files and partition settings over? The old partition is still marked as Active, so maybe I can just move all the Boot related files from G: to the 350MB partition and it'll just work? Maybe mark G: as INACTIVE too
Anyway, a while ago, I was playing with booting installations from a HDD, which worked, but now it seems I'm stuck with the partition I used to store the installation on.
So I have two questions:
1. To delete the H partition, I need to first set the C one to active, correct?
2. Is it even safe to delete the partition since it's a "system" partition?
The H partition is empty as far as general files go, but since it's bootale, it always shows up as a boot option, which is mildly annoying.

So, I recently upgraded to windows 10, and I was trying to change some settings to do with my mouse, and when I tried to open the additional mouse options: settings>devices>Mouse & Touchpad, but whenever I click "addition mouse options" an error comes up saying "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them" however, I have administrator access on my computer. This was working before I upgraded to windows 10 (I was on windows 7)
View 4 RepliesIt won't let me mark as active in the disk manager. And I need to make it bootable so I can dual boot. Do I need special permissions to make the other partition bootable?
View 3 RepliesToday, I tried to remove my old windows 7 (installed in drive D), dual booted with window 10.
However, I couldn't remove it because it was a System, Active, and Primary Partition.
And my Default Windows 10 drive C was Boot, Page file, Crash Dump, and Logical Drive (as shown in the picture)
So I have a 128gb 840 evo ssd as my C drive and then a WD caviar Blue as a mass storage drive . So with windows 10 just coming out and it being free I thought I would duel boot it with windows 7(currently running) and went and cleared out a bunch of old games and programs and ended up the 47 gb free so I would have space to make a partition and have a little room after that. then once I tried to shrink the volume it says the maximum i can shrink it is 129mb. so I tried on my HDD and it worked just fine being able to shrink it 600GB(the remaining storage).
System Specs
i5 4570k
EVGA GTX 760
128gb 840evo ssd
1tb WD Caviar Blue
EVGA supernova G2 750 watt
16gb corsair vengeance 1600 ddr3
The problem is when i installed my OS the reserved partition of OS automatically get created in different drive. I want to remove that drive(Drive 0) from my pc but without reserved partition im unable to boot my OS.
i want to remove the 750HDD(Disk 0) drive and want a make a reserved partition on my Disk 2. So i can boot my OS without Disk 0.
A family member of mind occasionally uses my laptop to work on some schoolwork. This person has their own standard prilvege account and I hold the administrator account. They ask me to download a program called Rehearse Score(Link Below). I downloaded the program but now it is requiring administrator privileges to run. Is their anyway to give this person access to this one application without giving them full admin rights?

View 1 RepliesSo I installed windows 10 on my PC yesterday, I used to have windows 7. Today I turned on my PC and it says that I can choose to open my PC in windows 7 but not windows 10. So I thought OK I'll just try that, Then it said an error 0xc0000428 and it won't let me turn my PC on, I press enter and it enters the same loop of saying the error and selecting what version of windows I want to open.

View 1 RepliesI recently installed Windows 10 on my Samsung Series 7 Chronos (NP700Z5A-A01DX). The HDD is a Hitachi HTS547575A9E384 which I originally thought was a hybrid HDD with 8gb ssd partition, but I'm not 100% sure.Anyway, with Windows 7 the computer came back from sleep in 1 or 2 seconds, now it's much slower. I've followed all the instruction online for reinstalling ExpressCache etc. but I get the error message "SSD not fund, please create a partition manually".Running DISKPART, List Disk I only have a one disk showing. (750gb, Drive 0)
View 6 RepliesI have a SSD where my operating system is installed.I also have a 3 3TB drives. A 746.52 partition on one of the drives became unallocated after installation of windows 10. I've managed to recover all the data from the unallocated partition. Would now like to fix the partition. I think it may be something to do with MBR/GPT?
View 9 RepliesSince upgrading to Windows 10 I have had to keep extending the primary partition, now up to 250Gb and full. I do have free capacity on another partition from which I have been taking spare capacity with any problems so far, but the partition tool won't let me take any more.

I work with HAAS CNC lathes and mills, which only accept FAT16-formatted USB drives. I have an old 2gb drive that is starting to fail so I got a new drive. problem is the smallest size I could find is 8GB, which is too big for FAT16. I tried using Disk Management but the resize option was greyed out. Is there any other tool I can use?
View 4 RepliesI did once manage to Partition in to 2 separate drives the Disk 2 - New Volume (G:) external drive
However I can not repeat that and instead I keep getting it split in to 3 partitions?
I only want 2 partitions 1 x 1TB + 1 x 2 TB
I am doing this on this system (Windows 10, 32 bit) Home edition, because my ACRONIS Total Image 2016 won't recognise a 3 TB drive.
BTW: I have two other registered Windows systems 1. Windows 10 Prof. & 2. Windows 7 Prof. both using 64 bit, that I don't have problems with.
