Drivers/Hardware :: Missing Battery Meter - No Warning On Screen When Low Power
Jul 30, 2015
Updated my wife's laptop with windows 10 and now is missing the battery meter (charging, power left also no warning on screen when low power) going to the notification area properties the option to turn power icon is completely greyed out and unselectable. Fully up to date and have ran a sweep for errors with SFC/scannow and returned no errors.
Noticed that the estimed time left on the battery in windows 10 fluctuates wildly? On my xps 13 it can change almost 3 hours between checking it 5 minutes apart.
A while back I accidently kicked out the power cord from my laptop which damaged the power connector. It still worked, it charged just fine, but whenever the connector was plugged in, the "power connector is not plugged in properly" warning kept popping up even though the laptop was charging just fine. The other strange thing is that the warning box would be translucent and flickering and I couldn't close it. I could click on another window to send it to the back but couldn't close the warning box except in Task Manager. It would shortly pop up again anyway.
So I finally got the connector replaced thinking that would solve the problem but it didn't. The warning box constantly and randomly pops up while charging making me think that maybe the motherboard suffered some damage too.
Rather than pay to replace the motherboard, is it possible to simply disable this warning? I really don't need to know if the connector is plugged in properly, it's hard not to plug it in properly and if it's not charging I will find out eventually via low power warnings.
My computer will randomly lose power without warning(or at least that's what it acts like). I'm not sure what is causing it, but I tested the power supply with a multimeter and the voltage is well above the needed amount. when it happens, my CPU is never above 38 degrees Celsius. This happens when plugged into a UPS and when plugged directly into the wall. I don't get an error message, and there is no report about it in the event viewer.
Recently i upgrade my laptop to windows 10, and also update my graphic drivers, but now the battery icon in notification area is not visible and i can't change the brightness of my screen too. it seems that the graphic driver installed correctly.
so i migrated from windows 7 to windows 10.im running windows 10 pro,64 bit,4gb ram on intel i3 processor.in windows 7 when i click on the battery icon i can choose the power plan setting immediately. but in windows 10,when i click the battery icon the power plan option is no longer there.i had to go through advanced power setting to get to the power plan settings.so i wonder is there any way to get the power plan setting to show directly when i click the battery icon?i knew there was a workaround by editing registry and showing it by right clicking on desktop instead but i prefer the old way.
Now that I've upgraded to Windows 10, I can no longer manage my slideshows for my desktop.
In Win 7 and Win 8, I could manage whether or not to shuffle my slideshow and whether to pause the slideshow when on battery power. You can see that screen by looking at my tablet, which is still Win 8.1:
Now both options are missing. I found a forum thread on how to fix the shuffle using regedit, but I have found no way to manage the pausing of the slideshow while on battery power. It is currently stuck on pause. How do I get it unstuck?
This only happens when I am on battery power, not when I have my laptop plugged in. When my laptop is plugged in, the slideshow proceeds like it should.
(I really hope they add both those options back to the options screen on the slideshow...)
On battery power, my laptop shuts off with no BSOD after 20 minutes of light use (web browsing). Laptop will not restart on battery power - only when plugged in. When restarted (plugged in) the battery level shows 85%.
Laptop diagnostics say the battery is fine - 99% charge capacity. HP diagnostics say the battery is fine.
HP 455 notebook running windows 10 64 bit. When plugged in, the laptop works perfectly. I see kernel power error event 41 task 63
As stated in title - no battery icon when not plugged in - and no battery/power icon when plugged in - also no locations icon. I do not care much about the locations one, but the battery one is pretty much vital.
Going into "Turn system icons on / off" - both Power & Location are greyed out - and can not be activated.
I have tried all the regular Windows 7 / 8 fixes - but no luck. I DO have a battery icon in the logon screen - but that is it. I have had this issue since I first downloaded the first preview builds.
This is my machine stats according to System info ....
I'm using Windows 10 Pro. I've lost the power level (battery) and the sound level control icons. What do I have to do to get them back? When I try to activate them they're grayed out.
I've had an issue with my laptop : it randomly turns off when I play some games without even a blue screen or a crash of any sort. It only happens with some specific games and happened a few times on each, something like once every several hours.
The games I've had these problems with are World of Warcraft, Call of Duty 2 and Civilisation 5. At first I thought this could be caused by some sort of exception unhandled by my processor, but it would give me blue screens, not just my computer turning off.
I've read online that it could be caused to overheating but WoW worked just fine when I was using it on the same laptop with windows 8.1, and amongst all the other games I play on this pc, WoW, CoD 2 and Civ 5 are really not the ones that use the most resources.
Note that it doesn't turn off like it would by just shutting windows down, there's no windows 10 shut down screen or anything at all and the programs running don't close before. It just goes black instantly.
Today I have installed the free Window 10 Home Edition x64 and in the systems screen it is listed as "Windows is activated." However, I intend to perform a system reset because my system has been acting odd ever since it went through the update. The update process itself went fine without any errors. But now there are very long start up times, programs refuse to start up, errors. I've spend a near 5 five hours going through every option until I decided to do the reset.
The only trouble I have is that a warning screen shows up before I can do the reset and delete all my files. This is the Google Translate of it:
This PC has recently been upgraded to Windows 10. If you reset the computer, the upgrade can not be undone and put back the previous version of Windows.
But if I were to be literal in what it states in my language, it's more like this:
This PC has recently been upgraded to Windows 10. If you reset the computer, the upgrade cannot be undone and the previous version of Windows will be put back. Is it safe for me to do a system reset without removing Windows 10?
Ugraded from windows 10 rtm to windows 10 th2 and lost the option to restore a power plan to its default settings, so when i edit a power plan, i cant reset it to the defaults, is this normal with th2??? The first screenshot is of the option being there, well what its supposed to be and the other two are of my setup, as you can see i change a setting to see if it would pop up to restore defaults and it just doesnt....
I apparently have Fast Startup enabled after upgrading to Win10. I would like to turn it off so I am not automatically logged on when I power up. (We don't have the IDs password protected on this desktop PC.) There are very simple instructions given in a TenForums tutorial, but my Power Options don't match what is shown in the tutorial. In particular, under Shutdown Settings I have only Sleep and Lock - no "Turn on fast startup"; no "Hibernate". Since this is a desktop there is also no "On battery" options, but that is obviously not a concern. But is the option of turning on and off Hibernate available only on laptops?
After installing a new Samsung 850 EVO SSD (this is in addition to the SSD that is on the mother board)in my Dell XPS 8700 and upgrading to Win10, I have three warnings showing up in Device Manager.
Opening their properties shows that all three are working correctly with no error codes. All of the drivers are current. I do see that the NVidia GeForce GTX 660 and the Intel 8 Series/C220 Series USB EHCI #2 -8C2D share the same IRQ 16. I've done a little poking around including running the Depp Support Assistant and correcting a few issues, I cannot find anything the might point me to the reason for these warnings.
Since everything appears to be working well, should I simply treat the little yellow warning as just informational and move on?
After installing an Acer tool PowerSmart Manager to optimize my laptop's battery life, the battery icon disappeared from my notifications area. (This tool was meant for Windows 7).Not only that, but I can't check the battery levels (using either Windows Mobility options or an external battery monitoring software).Uninstalling the software doesn't revert the battery icon, and I still can't check my battery levels. Is there any way of fixing without reinstalling Windows?
As you can see here, the battery is stuck at %10, Windows tells me that it needs 5 minutes for a full charge, and this is how it is for the past hour. All this began after the Windows 10 update. the first days it was much better, showing up to 4 hours of battery time when %100. Now I can't see it get to 100%.
Does the time warning that used to appear on screen for a child's account - two minute remaining... - is still present in windows 10? It seems like when my kid gets to the end of his allotted time for the day the computer just goes blank without any warning - often in the middle of an 'all important' game. Am I missing something or is this feature gone?
after updating to Windows 10, I am not able to get the screen brightness to 100% anymore (it is shown to be 100%, but plugging my laptop in, screen brightness will increase to maximum brightness). Screen settings are as shown below.I also tried using the command line:/ This allows me to change the brightness, however 100% is still not really 100% when on battery.
Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 (Home edition, version 1511), the screen on my laptop (Dell XPS17) goes glitchy whenever the machine is running off the battery - see photo attached. As soon as I plug it back into the mains the problem corrects itself. I don't always have access to a mains plug so I'd like to be able to use the laptop with just the battery, and not plugged into the mains.
I installed Win10 yesterday on my desktop, but sleep is not an option on power menu. Have tried all options that I find in various forums including driver updates and system settings, but can not get a sleep mode for the power menu. Maybe Win 10 thinks my desktop is a laptop as I only have hibernate for an option.
I have tried using hibernate, but my PC "wakes" anyway and uses too much power with fans. Only power saving solution now is to shut down completely each time I walk away. I have not found the solution in forums for adding back sleep to the menu.
I've had this HP Envy for years and today my battery won't charge. I'm plugged in, so it's not dying, but my battery is at 1% and the battery status mouseover says "1% available (plugged in, not charging)". I've tried all the search results for this problem, including going into Device Manager and uninstalling the battery driver then scanning for updates, but it's still not charging. I even went into Command Prompt and tried sfc /scannow but it didn't change anything.
My laptop has a battery light which tells me when my laptop is fully charged. When it is fully charged (it is green), Windows still says "05 minutes until fully charged" and then charges for another half hour. In the past the light has been reliable, so I believe that windows 10 is the issue. My laptop has also had significant issues with charging. I can confirm this with two batteries. I have an Asus K55VD which I haven't changed the battery plugs in or anything like that. What could my problem be? Here's what I've tried:
-Disabling and re-enabling Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery (no change) -Turning power saving off in BIOS (did a bit with the charging problem) -Fixing the fan (turns out it wasn't spinning, which caused a range of issues. Worked for battery charge issue a bit) -Keeping the laptop shut down (didn't work) -Keeping it asleep (didn't work) -Keeping it on with the screen off (did work it charge)
Yet I can't find a fix for the battery charging percentage and time issue.
Today when I tried to reset my laptop my battery died (I got up to 29% on the reset), because somehow my charger got unplugged. Now when I turn it on I get to the Logo (asus) then get a black screen. (I have tried taking the battery out and pressing the power button for a couple seconds and I got nothing) I don't know what to do!
How can I enter the "choose an option" screen, the blue one. I can reset there. I chose continue to windows 10 and now I keep getting black screen after logo. is there like hotkeys to press while turning on?
