Computer: Dell Optiplex 3020 Original O/S: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
Did the free upgrade to Windows 10 couple of days ago, didn't work so restore to Windows 7 and the problem now is none of my usb ports work meaning that I can't use any keyboard or mouse.
Only available ports in computer are USB Ethernet Headphone and microphone ports.
It won't let us access the local disk and says we don't have permission. I am the only user. It won't let us save anything on that disk either. I have gotten all of the documents, videos, and pictures backed up so that's not an issue. We are really just trying to reset the computer with a fresh start but it wont let us.
Resetting the computer- This wouldn't let me because it said it had an error. I did this by holding shift while restarting and then troubleshooting from there. I've tried the option of saving files and also whiping the whole computer, both ways won't work.Booting in safe mode- it works but nothing has come out of doing anything in that mode.
I downloaded and installed the new Windows 10. The installation seemed to be perfectly accomplished. However, when I tried to open my desktop I discovered that the system had set up a new password to enter !!!!
Result: i do not have access to my computer !
*I did not have any password before, so I guess Windows 10 could have fixed a default password.
Want to access files on USB and in computer where there is no Wifi. Laptop with windows 10. Mainly entering spreadsheet data. Many miles from Internet/wifi or cell towers.
View 2 RepliesSince downloading to Windows 10 I have had trouble connecting my computer to the Internet. I am on a college campus and having a computer with no internet is like a truck driver without a truck. I am able to connect to the Internet at random times for a few moments before it shows up with limited acces symbol on my wifi icon in the bottom right hand corner. My internet works fine when it is plugged in through an Ethernet cable but that is very inconvenient.
View 1 RepliesI have the following problem. I upgraded to Windows 10 and now I can't access the disk of my other computer.
- Both PCs have the disks access open for everyone (home network).
- Both have the same password.
When I try to enter the C: drive of my other PC, I get an error that I don't have the privilages to do so.(I see them on the network, but I can't access them).
One of my computers has suddenly lost internet access, and as far as I can remember all I was doing last time I used it was going on the internet to websites I normally go to. All other computers and devices are fine. The computer in question says WiFi is connected, but no programs can access it including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and my VPN. I haven't noticed any other problems on that computer.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Troubleshooting internet connection - no problems detected
Scanning with Webroot - no threats detected
Turning OFF Webroot - no change
When I try to access a website with Google Chrome I get the error message DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET.
My father, has managed to enter the wrong email address on his computer, instead of ****@btinternet.com he has entered bt.com which doesn't exist!
SO when he switches on his computer he can't get past the first screen because it's saying his password is incorrect so go to you account live, he can't because he can't start the computer to get there!I tried on mine until it dawned on me I can change the password for him as many times as he likes BUT because he's entered a non existent email address he can never receive the emails for a password reset.
I would like to be able to access my computer without signing in every time. How do I disable the sign-in requirement?
View 1 RepliesSo, a while back I had a problem on the Windows 10 Home Edition where it would not let me change my lock screen. Since I didn't have the pro edition, I couldn't change the policy in the registry editor because of a lack of one, so I transferred all my files to a local account. I then had the problem of programs asking me to enter my admin password every time I wanted to access certain protected programs, so I disabled the admin password so this would no longer happen. I then deleted the account which was considered the program and went on with my normal business on my PC.
Later, I restarted my PC, and when I went to login, it said my password was incorrect for my local account. I then went into my boot options, opened command prompt in safe mode and changed my admin password. I then restarted my PC and now I don't even have the option to login at all, coming up with the error message "Your account has been disabled. Please see your system administrator." Now this problem usually fixed by holding shift and pressing restart to access boot options, but I cannot do this.
Every time I press OK to go back to the lock screen, it instantly goes back to the administrator message, meaning I can't boot anything. I planned on doing a complete reinstall of Windows 10 using a bootable usb iso, but since I can't boot it, this isn't possible, unless I'm missing something such as a key allowing me to launch the boot options from launch, although I've tried keys such as f8 to no avail.
So, first up, was getting crashes with my windows 10 after installing nvidia driver 359.00, mostly crashes that recovered automatically, then started getting Blue Screens. Tried 359.06 and had the same problems. Rolled back to 358.91 which originally had been stable but after the rollback became crashy, but less than the other 2 drivers.
Had a HARD crash while playing Dragon Quest Heroes, rebooted from that and could not boot into windows whatsoever. Had to pull the card, use the motherboard video, removed the nvidia drivers entirely. I can boot into windows as long as there are no nvidia drivers while using my GTX 670. While attempting to reinstall any nvidia drivers with maybe 5% of the green bar on the installer showing it goes black screen, sits for a bit, then reboots. BIOS looks fine, windows splash comes up, not the password screen, black screen there. Tried what I could find to put the password in and get past he black screen but nothing happening.
Is there a problem with my card or my windows install? I'd rather not buy a new card but its always a pain reinstalling windows if I don't actually have to. how to export all my windows settings if I do need to reinstall.?
Access is denied on both drives. Just upgraded about an hour ago and I've been looking for solutions but cant seem to find any that works for me. I'm only using one account and its a Local(Administrator) account. How to give full free unhindered access to everything. Since this is my laptop and no one is going to ever use it except for me.

I downloaded the correct driver for my GTX980 video card. I tried installing it and it says "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." How can I make Windows 10 see the correct hardware I'm using? Is there a setting in VirtualBox or Windows itself?
Yesterday my pc was fine and today i get a black screen with out a cursor and if i wait like 9 min i get a blue screen with IRQL Not Less Or Equal
I have 4 hard disks in my pc, 1 scretch disks SSD, 1 Windows 10 SSD, 1 4TB hard drive back up, 1 windows 10 harddrive.
Now if i sign in with my (windows 10 hard drive) i see the (windows 10 SSD) but if i click it i get a acces denied. But if i go on safe mode, i can acces the (windows 10 SSD).
But if i boot with the (windows 10 SSD) i get again a black screen and about 10 min i get the IRQL code...
My DVD drive worked fine in Win7, and still works fine if I boot from it, but since upgrading to Win10 I can't access any disk in it. File Explorer "sees" my G drive, but when I want to look at a disk it tells me to insert a disk. Device manager told me that my drive was a virtual clone drive, so I removed it and deleted the driver, and now I don't see any optical drives. I can't find the model number of the LG drive, so I can't download a suitable driver.
View 6 RepliesMy old Windows XP Desktop stopped running 2 weeks ago, with a No OS Found error. Since then I've taken the hard drive out and connected it to my new Windows 10 desktop with a USB 2.0 to SATA Adapter. It does not show up in "My Computer", but is detected in Computer Management.
The drive's an old Western Digital WD2000 one, and started clicking (for a few seconds) as soon as I attached it to the PC w/the USB Adapter. The clicking stopped after that.
It shows up as "Disk 1, Unknown, with the amount of data on it (186.31 GB [out of 200]), and is Unallocated. I've already tried numerous utility and Data Recovery programs, such as Recuva, MiniTool Partition Wizard, EaseUS Data/Partition Recovery. No luck with these.
They were either not detected, or didn't find anything. MiniTool Partition Wizard said it's a "Bad Disk" I
Partition Find and Mount is still conducting a scan which has been going for the past 7 hours (35%).
BTW - I really can't leave the hard drive on for the night to conduct a long scan. It's been overheating, and I already have a large fan next to it to cool it down. It's not safe to leave this on for an extended period of time.
Only to find out I bought a USB 3.0 Adapter instead of a 2.0 my old XP supported when It still ran.
I am currently unable to access my Local Disks, or open programs inside them, such as the task manager, user account control, and even the registry editor. Attempting to open anything (With administrator priveleges) just result in an access denied message. I have tried multiple solutions off the first searches on google, though none of them have worked, due to the things required in those solutions not being able to be accessed.
I have even tried to reset my PC and reinstall Windows, though when I click the "Get Started" button, nothing happens.
Is there any hope left for me, or do I need to get new drivers and abandon my valuable data?
I have a Toshiba 2TB Canvio USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive, it was working yesterday but I am now having problems with accessing it today. I connected it today and in my computer it shows up as Local Disk (G:), when I click onto it to try and access it file explorer crashes and only sorts itself out when the drive is unplugged. I tried uninstalling the driving and had no luck with it, can't access anything that involves the hard drive to format it either...
View 4 RepliesSo, I recently upgraded to windows 10, and I was trying to change some settings to do with my mouse, and when I tried to open the additional mouse options: settings>devices>Mouse & Touchpad, but whenever I click "addition mouse options" an error comes up saying "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them" however, I have administrator access on my computer. This was working before I upgraded to windows 10 (I was on windows 7)
View 4 RepliesI've recently upgraded my home PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I've been using a Realtek USB Wi-Fi adapter to connect to the internet. After installing the new OS and running it for the first time, I couldn't connect to my home network.
After reinstalling the drivers supplies by the manufacturer and reattaching the adapter, I attempted to again connect to the network. The "Verifying and connecting" message displayed, but after closing Settings and returning to the same page, all of the Wi-Fi settings have disappeared, like the drivers have crashed.

I have two computers that I'm trying to get to communicate with each other so I can move files back and forth between them. My plan is to make one of them the home's backup and main storage system. the problem is that I can only seem to get one of them to actually communicate equally. Computer 1 is a factory Lenovo Intel i3 computer. Computer 2 is a home made AMD that I just built a few weeks ago.
Both are running Win 10 Pro.
Both are physically attached to the router. Heck, they're physically stacked on each other on my desk....
Using File Explorer, on the left side Panel under Network, it shows both computers: AMD and Lenovo.
Computer 1(factory) is able to the files on Computer 2 easily by going over through File Explorer. But, if I click on one of the files, I get the message that I DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION. If I try to cut/Paste files from Computer 1 to computer 2, I get the same message.
Computer 2. I am also able to see the computer listed under Network in the left panel. When I click on Computer 1 to access it, I get a Network Error Windows cannot access Lenovo (Computer1) Error code 0x80070035
I've tried the Diagnose option and it doesn't work.
If I click on a Drive under Network on the very computer, I can see the drives, I can see the directory list. If I click on a file, I get the error. Example on the left side panel on my AMD computer I select:
>AMD
>C:
>PerfLogs
It's at this point that I get the error: Windows cannot access amdcPerfLogs as an example
I've tried running through Homegroup setup and Googled for days on setting up a network with Windows 10 and can't seem to figure out what I'm not doing here to make these computers talk and communicate with each other. I eventually, want to get all my computers to talk to the AMD so I can use it for a main storage/backup for the home network.
I have a gaming pc. Core i7. Gigabyte Sniper 5 motherboard with wireless lan, ethernet and intel ethernet. So 2 lan ports and a wireless connection. My network and internet is working on my mac iPad and phone. But for some reason on my pc it is showing that the connection has internet access but no apps will work. Skype, steam, origin, i.e, chrome. I have tried everything. I can use a personal hotspot via bluetooth with my phone to the pc as it has bluetooth as well and then the internet works with no problem. I am guessing it is a hardware issue ? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software but it is not working.

I go to install new AMD drivers as well as my Logitech drivers for my G400s mouse and my computer freezes.. cant move cursor, can't ctrl-alt-del - I've tried a million times.
My PC is not OC'd.
From time to time I do not get sound from my computer or even through an ear phone/connected external speakers.
But sound can be heard from a connected TV through HDMI, if from playback devices I chose the TV as default.
On re-starting the computer the problem gets solved- but re occurs after a few days.
I have a 2TB WD internal HDD that are currently fade out when I view with My Computer. I checked with disk management and the device is "No Media". Whats wrong with the HDD?I tried CMD and I want to check disk but it says that "Cannot Open Volume for direct access".Also, for this 2TB HDD, I didn't use Sata Connector to run, I always use a HDD dock (via USB) to access the HDD to backup my data into this HDD. I connect the USB to my PC and then the power adapter for the dock to function.I not sure is the drive failing or just cannot be detected. I just hope that the HDD is not damaged or unable to recover the data.
