Jan 2, 2016So all I want to know now is simply whether or not you have a brightness slider bar in your control panel.Please click your start menu, then click "Settings" and go to the first option, "Display". Please look for a brightness slider at the bottom of the screen. If there is none there, then go to "Advanced display settings".
If there is still no brightness control, finally, go back to your desktop and go down to the task bar, and look for the "Action centre" icon in the System tray area (looks like a speech bubble), click this and then Click "Expand" to shot all the charms. There might be a square in the bottom of this area that enables you to change the brightness of the screen.

Aug 17, 2015I just updated my display driver to the latest from Nvidia. Now the left half of the display is darker than the right half. I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling, but the problem remains.
The driver is Nvidia 355.60 WHQL , and yes my display card in on the list of supported cards. This is the driver for Windows 10 64 bit and my Nvidia GTS 450.
I have never seen this issue before and I don't know if it is Windows 10 or the Nvidia driver causing the problem.

Aug 5, 2015Sometimes when i start up in win10 get a black screen, if i pull out charging lead desktop comes up, if plug back in get black screen, so pull out and on desktop go into display with left mouse button, display slider works is working in reverse so set it to darkest which puts screen on brightest, then plug charger in most times this works, Another way that works sometimes is leave charger in use function key and dim button (rh arrow) and screen sometimes shows desktop.

Aug 22, 2015after updating to Windows 10, I am not able to get the screen brightness to 100% anymore (it is shown to be 100%, but plugging my laptop in, screen brightness will increase to maximum brightness). Screen settings are as shown below.I also tried using the command line:/ This allows me to change the brightness, however 100% is still not really 100% when on battery.

Aug 18, 2015just updated to windows ten with my Sony Vaio 14 touchscreen laptop. 2 things ive noticed so far that have been bugging me is 1. I cannot adjust my brightness with the f5 & f6 keys like i could before... nor do i know how to changed the brightness now at all. Also if not able to connect to an external display (i.e. monitor or TV) used to do it automatically with 8 now nothing.

Dec 5, 2015Is there a way to change (decrease) the desktop screen brightness without going through the "Color calibrate" settings ?
Am looking for something similar to f.lux but without the orange filter, there is one called Turn off the lights, but it's very expensive ($25).
Also, isn't this supposed to be live a very basic thing ? i know that on laptop the brightness is controlled "physically" to save energy, i also know that f.lux and the other program i mentioned above are not accessing the real screen colors settings so maybe that's why Microsoft didn't add it but how hard would it be to make a software that just apply a color filter over the entire screen (reducing the darkness will just be a transparent black filter).
Control Panel Not Working?
Jan 16, 2016this small problem started when my control panel wouldn't open, when I try it's like my entire desktop gets refreshed (black flicker) and half the app icons in the notification are disappear with no sign of the control panel opening.
I have looked around and found a couple "solutions" but none work tried this in cmd (admin) "sfc /scannow" which ends with no issues found.then tried this which also found nothing.

So I finally just tried a reset of my computer removing all personal files, apps and settings but that didn't work still have the same problem but now I have more problems!....my audio has stopped working, the icon has the speaker with the little red circle and white cross and when I hover over it it says "The Audio Service is not running." when I click on it it opens up a troubleshoot window which doesn't work it goes through the process and end with a "Not Fixed" and when I click the "Explore additional options" it does that stupid screen refresh thing like when trying to open the control panel, and after I reinstalled my VPN my internet wont work.

Oct 21, 2015Description: My USB keyboard stops working at the login screen. None of the keys are responsive. The onscreen keyboard works fine.
This happens on wakeup after a remote desktop session and after scheduled updates during the night. In both cases this happens after wakeup, which makes this tedious to reproduce.
The keyboard starts working after unplugging the usb and plugging back or after restarting. I have this same issue on my work PC (HP, win 10) which makes me believe that this is a windows 10 issue. I have tested with three different USB keyboards.
Troubleshooting so far: Energy settings for USB checked (USB selective suspend setting set to disabled)...
Control Panel No Longer Working
Dec 3, 2015After latest update I find that Control Panel is no longer working --it starts (displays) and then locks up and then disappears after a few seconds. Is my system broken or is control panel now disabled )get to it via Right mouse from Windows start button).

Jan 8, 2016Recently I posted a thread about control panel not working. Finally got it started by opening in file explorer. Once it started there it would open from any of the usual places. My problem now is that File Explorer is doing the same thing control panel was doing. Can't seem to start it from anywhere. I just get the "wait" circle for a second and then nothing.

Sep 26, 2015Ever since I've upgraded to Windows 10 there is an error message after startup that says: "Access violation at address 0046D0AD in module 'Wlakn Mgr.exe'. Read of address 00000002." I think it has to do with my internet connection-My pc (yes, pc, not laptop) came with an extra strong internet receiver becuase I have to do with wifi; no cable available here.

Dec 29, 2015So after my computer randomly restarting itself my desktop items have gone crazy. The text is miniscule, the alignment is insane and the (for lack of a better word) hitboxes are whacked out like so:
And then I go to access my Control Panel, no luck. Doesn't open.
I then go into Display Settings/Advanced Display Settings try clicking "Advanced sizing of text and other items", again nothing. Doesn't even change screens.
I then go to Windows Update and an update is "Downloading" but stuck at 0% permanently.
*EDIT* I am using bootcamp on a MacBook Pro
Power And Sleep Settings Won't Save Screen Brightness Settings?
Aug 23, 2015Power & Sleep settings won't save my screen brightness settings. On my plugged in HP laptop default the screen brightness is set to maximum despite making changes in the Power & Sleep menu screen. I've even tried creating my own Power Plan but the next time it restarts it changes to the HP recommended power plan which sets the screen brightness to maximum.

Sep 12, 2015I have a Seagate HDD which has a really dumb APM setting. This makes it spin down and make extra noise.
In Windows 7, I managed to auto disable per session basis, but in Windows 10, this does not seem to work any more.
Are there any proven way to control APM settings in Windows 10? I really can figure it out.

1. Control Panel loads but the screen is completely blank.
2. Customizing the font page won't even load. Get message the change font page won't load.
Why I get blank screens. Can't find anything on these problems. Have to work around them at present. Have found a workaround for the Control Panel but not the changing font utility.

Jan 19, 2016have a problem with usb drivers according to my control panel which says it is fixing the issue and then tells me to reboot but it is not fixed. Keyboard lights up on start but when the first blue window appears it goes off. I can get into the bios ok and the keyboard works there. only one port is working (USB3). as my mouse and keyboard are usb and there is no PS2 port i am kinda cactus at the moment. Been searching for usb drivers for win 10 but not having any luck. Everything was working fine since November until yesterday.

Aug 9, 2015After upgrade from 7 to 10 my 2 brother printers were visible and apparently ready. The HL2270DW would not print - just spooled forever but the MFCJ825DW worked. I tried using the Brother uninstall tool to remove the laser driver then installed the W8.1 package for it. Would not install. So I wondered if the other printer was to blame and removed it as well and re-installed. I have done this many times now getting progressively more thorough including removing all mentions of Brother drivers using Devices and Printers interface, uninstalling in Device Manager installing in a different order and as administrator, removing folders left over etc. The result is always the same. I can get one of them installed but attempting to print gives the error Driver not installed - do you want to install? Click through, install via windows process but it fails anyway.
