Editing And Saving Office Files
Aug 21, 2015
Since I upgraded to Windows 10 I am unable to open an existing Office file, edit and save it. I get popup messages saying that I don't have administrator permissions. I am logged in as administrator. Also, I'm told that the files are Read Only, yet when I check the file properties they are not set to Read Only.

I seem to have a problem trying to save file to my default Docs, vid and Pics folder on my C drive. I have attached a pic of what it says.I have changed the permissions to let me do this or am I looking in the wrong place? If I save the files to the desktop however and then move to the relevant folder it works fine.

I've recently installed Windows 10 and since today I'm having this issue when I edit an existing Word document and try to save it.
The error:
"Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error.(C:User...Ongoing NotesInfoSoft.docx)"
I've noticed that there is a new user account that I didn't have before, which is an account associated to my Gmail. However, I've checked which account I logged in before opening the Word document, modifying and trying to save it - and it is an account with theoretically full control.how to fix it?

Ever since upgrading to Windows 10 I am having random "Access Denied" messages when saving files in various local directories. From my research it appears that I need to take ownership of my files again. However, I can't seem to get the system to understand that I am the owner. When attempting to take control many folders will come up with an enumeration error. Why I am unable to take possession of my own folders? I think the reason I'm having issues is that after I upgraded I switched to a Microsoft account which uses a different username than what I used previously before the upgrade. But, there should still be a way to claim access to my files.
Initial Error Message:
Enumeration Error when attempting to take ownership:

Since I upgraded to Windows 10; I have noticed that all my older Word documents have been made "Read Only". Despite changing the properties to correct this. Word still loads them as Read Only documents and will not let me make changes. I also noticed; that since the upgrade, despite my account having FULL ADMINISTRATOR rights and permissions, Every action I take to attempt to correct any issues pops up the message that I need administrator rights to complete the action. The problems I experience on my Laptop don't apply to back-ups of the documents on external storage devices. Is there a simple fix for this?

I'm using a Sony a3000 camera, although I don't think that's the problem. When I download photos on my old computer, which is still running Windows7, my photos go straight to my default program, PaintshopPro. On my laptop, which has Windows 10, I have set PaintshopPro as the default, but when I connect the camera, I get a pop up to choose the device, either F:/ or PMHOME.
When I choose F:/, I get a pop-up to start importing and it gives me the option where I want to import, but the photos end up in the Photos App in the Collections folder. I don't want to use the Photos app. I want them to go straight into PSP. How do I do that?

When I edit a .mkv file (rename, delete or copy/move) on one of my partitions, file explorer freezes and I need to restart it with taskmanager.
I haven't encountered any other files that cause the same freeze as this one (yet..).
I already searched on google and tried editing from a webbrowser and the drive is defragmented automatically, so I don't know what to do.

I have a 2TB HDD which served as my primary (only) drive, until recently when we added a 500GB SSD. The plan was to use the SSD as the primary drive (C: ) and the HDD as the slave drive (D: ). I have reinstalled Photoshop CS6 onto my SSD and I planned to continue saving my files onto the HDD, however it continues to display this message whenever I try:
I've already tried searching on these forums and tried changing ownership as suggested here: Windows 10: You don't have permission to save in this location..... and here: Owner of Files and Folders - Change in Windows 10 and it seemed to go as they said it would... but I still have the same problem.
Am I able to operate programs through C: and then save them on D: ? I was just trying to make things simpler for me because I'm already confused having so many 'Picture' and 'Document' folders, it's hard to keep track of what's where.

I broke the front audio port, accidentally yanked on a wired connection and the audio is not working. So I am trying to remap the microphone port to be a headphone port. Using the instructions here : [URL] ...
Except when I restart my computer the regedit changes I made are reverted. I am just simply changing a binary value, Pin19, which my Realtek audio device connection for my mic, to be 20 00 00 00 which indicates headphone.
I tried giving permission to every username except CREATOR OWNER, which doesn't allow me to change. What can I do?
Realtek Audio ALC662 chipset
Software for this device doesn't allow for remapping, so Regedit is the hard way

Upgraded last night and am slowly working through minor issues. One thing that's confusing me - my username is supposed to be in the Administrator group on my computer, but my settings seem to be connected to the Home User group instead. I first discovered this when I tried to open Outlook and Outlook couldn't access my .pst file. I went into Security and gave the Home User group full access. Problem solved.
Next, I found that I couldn't save to any of my Documents folders. I found that if I changed Security settings to full access on each individual folder, it would allow me to save, create new folders, etc. Now I'm wondering if it's possible to make this a more global change? Changing access to every stinkin file is pretty annoying and it seems logical that there should be a global setting to do this. (One more thing related to user issues: what's the use of being in an Admin group if you don't actually have Admin permissions to run things? The cmd menu won't allow me to do anything...)

I have Windows 7 on my desktop pc and I'm considering the free upgrade to W10. However, I'm on a metered internet connection and can't afford the 4 or more GB free download for W10. Would I be able download the W10 ISO image to a flash drive or usb hard drive using my laptop at the local library which had WIFI internet access. And then, be able to install the free W10 upgrade from the saved image file to my home desktop? I do understand that W10 does make some concession on the forced W10 updates for metered connection, but I'll deal with that later.

I am having trouble saving pictures to my "Pictures" folder. I right click on the picture sent to me via e-mail, Facebook, etc I click "Save Link As". I rename the picture and try to save it to my "Pictures" Folder. It says that I do not have permission to save to that folder so I have to save it to "Documents". What is going on? Why can I not save it to my "Pictures" Folder? I have saved a lot of pictures to it before. Why do I not have permission? It is my computer. How do I give myself permission to save it to my "Pictures" folder?

Installed Windows 10 and having following problems. I have tried to sort these out myself but am very challenged in these areas:
1. The calendar works fine but I do not receive pop-up notification reminders on laptop screen. I did some test entries in past few days and some came up but now none come up. ( I do miss the email notifications from Windows7). I deleted the Windows 7 calendar entries and re-entered on Windows 10. I'm sure all the right boxes are checked . Could this be a Windows 10 issue which may resolve later?
2. Where can I store incoming or sent emails for reference later? In W7, I kept them in the storage Folders- Drafts or Sent.
Is the only place MSN Outlook.Com? My main page for emails is Outlook ....

In Windows 7 and 8, when I saved an Excel input.csv file to a master.csv file, it would just save.
Now in Windows 10, the Excel file opens up and has to be saved manually (file save as...).
Is there a way to get it to just save as it did in Windows 7 and 8, as opposed to having the file open up like that?
