Mar 11, 2016I've trying to update an Advent netbook to windows 10 from 7. It's been a hassle all the way with hangs on 'checking for updates'. However, I got through that but now it's stuck on 'Get going fast' screen.
I had selected 'use express settings' and now it's stuck on that screen. The mouse still works but nothing happens. I left it on all night. It's still on the 'get going fast' screen.
If I reboot (even remove battery) I get the initial advent boot screen but no bios info. Del, f12, f11, f2 etc do nothing. The blue 'win 10' logo appears briefly then back to the 'get going fast' screen.
I also tried the usb flash drive that had the old os on it but it won't boot from it despite that being the initial boot setting in the bios. Has win 10 bricked my netbook?

Jan 7, 2016I have a Linx 8 tablet running Windows 10, and despite several hours of web/forum trawling I cannot access my BIOS settings to view my boot manager, either through the Settings/Restart method, or in Safe Mode. I can get to a screen that lets me choose between either UEFI Settings or Boot Manager (by holding the power and the volume up buttons together at start up). Selecting the UEFI option takes me to the expected prompt, but choosing Boot Manager just starts Windows as normal. I simply cannot access my Boot Manager; I have disabled Fast Boot.

Today I restored my system from a macrium reflect system image. I went back only 2-3 hours in time. After rebooting, windows started up fine. But the bios reverted to its default settings, although I had previously tweaked it a bit.
What's more, I can't get to the bios menu at all. I mash the delete key at startup, and I just see a blank screen. Even an hour later, just a blank screen.
This happened to me not so long ago, but that time, the bios screen did eventually appear, and with a little patience I was able to tweak the bios again. But this time it is more stubborn.
I also feel that the boot process is slow. I see the asus advert, and it coughs a couple times and drags on until I get to the windows boot menu where I choose if I want windows 10 or macrium reflect recovery environment.
I very often restore from a system image, and every time, it makes a new bios boot entry. I have dozens of boot entries by now in the bios boot menu. Maybe that's causing a problem?
The fan is unusually loud, although cpu usage is low, just 0-2 %
Cannot Enter BIOS - Change Boot Device Message Popping Up
Apr 5, 2016I just bought an ssd. i installed it then windows didn't detect it so i format it and everything now its working. So I decided to go into the bios to make my win10 boot off of the ssd then the hard drive as a secondary then i save and exit and turn my pc off to test the boot. i get a message saying change the boot device and when i kept restarting it it kept popping up. so i had to unplug the sata data on my ssd. not since its connected, win10 will boot off of the hdd. then i notice after i unplug it and turn it on it wont even give me an opportunity to enter the bios windows automatically starts up; there is no logo of my mobo brand with controls on how to enter the bios under it. i still press the button that would let me enter but nothing happens but win10 starts up. so after that i plug in the ssd and now its not detected and it wont let me format it as if its not even installed in my system! NOW I CANT ENTER THE BIOS AND A USELESS BRAND NEW 250GB SSD...

Sep 8, 2015I've successfully updated to Windows 10 on my two Surfaces, but there is some kind of issue on my desktop PC. The upgrade process from Windows 8 fails at about 71% total (Installing features and drivers at 91%), and the error I get is:
C1900101-40017 Windows Update ran into a problem.
When I click on "Get help with this error" I'm directed to a page with some general troubleshooting with Windows Update. I've run Windows update repair tool and it fixed some issues, but the installation failed again.
I have now tried freeing up more disk space which I admit was a bit tight and I'm preparing to run the update again. Still, I'd prefer if there was a more detailed error message or a log file where I could see what exactly went wrong, but there are no indications where I might find one (either in the error message, the troubleshooter, or Google). As it is, I'm shooting blind here and this will now be my fifth upgrade attempt.
Windows Fails To Boot After Shutdown
Jan 1, 2016I have just built a new gaming PC and everything works fine, windows installed correctly, all drives are recognized programs are installed etc.
But I have a small problem... When I shut down, power off and leave my PC for a while, upon startup, windows wont boot. It goes onto the motherboard screen and then says ''starting automatic repair''. It gives me a list of options, and the only option which gets me back to windows is to restore to a windows recovery backup which I created. Every time I shut down, I have to restore and then add a few programs that got removed which is very annoying.
The PC is stable and all my programs which are installed are working fine, but for some reason, it enters this recovery mode when I start up from a shutdown.
I am running windows 10 64bit, my motherboard is an Asus VII Hero and I have installed all the drivers which are needed along with a few programs. I am thinking I may need to do a re-installation of windows, would that fix the problem?
Windows Continues To Load Just No Video
Sep 14, 2015After upgrading to W10 from W8.1 (which went trouble free) when my laptop is powered completely off and I turn on the laptop, after the Acer splash screen the video stops working. Windows continues to load just no video.
IF I go into the bios during startup and just exit out of it, W10 starts normally, with video. It will also reboot with no problem, no video loss, only when the laptop is powered completely off.
I tried going to the Acer web site and downloading their W10 drivers, made no difference. I installed the latest bios.

now that win 10 is out, and on my main rig, and i just love it. could i use install media on my laptop and have the win 10 activated via the bios embedded key?
BSOD :: PC Hard Crashed Now Can't Load Windows
Nov 6, 2015This morning my PC hard crashed,. I didn't think anything of it, restarted and got back to work. About an hour later it hard crashed again, eventually BSODing within minutes of logging in. These are just some of the errors:
IRQL null less or equal
System Service Exception
Bad Pool Header
Kmove exception not handled
And a few others. I could never stay on long enough to google these errors so I ran CHKDSK from the advanced boot screen which came back fine. I decided "screw it" and just did a System Restore since my last point was a few days ago. Then it BSOD during the system restore, and it made it so that it would crash after the Windows logo. I decided to use the Reset to reinstall Windows 10 but keep my files, and, you guessed it! BSOD during that. Now it doesn't even ask for my password in the advanced boot screen like it used to. If I try to do the Reset again it gives me an error and says it can't be done.
If I power on, there's a 90% chance it either hard crashes or BSOD at the Windows logo. On the off-chance that it makes it beyond that, it runs a repair tool, but it always fails. I made a Windows 10 USB installer but it just prompts for a serial key which I don't have because I used the automatic upgrade from Windows 8.1 a few weeks ago.
I spent hours searching for answers, and even resorted to making a USB Linux installer just to access my HDD and transfer some important files to an external HDD, but I couldn't grab them all. For some reason some of my folders were inaccessible.
Windows Doesn't Load - Computer Keeps Resetting
Dec 4, 2015I've been running Windows 10 since it was released and nothing really has come up as a problem until last night, I was playing a game on the pc and I got some red dots everywhere, I figured nvidia crashed and thought nothing of it until my entire pc reset now I see a series of white dots on bios loadup and windows loads and just before it gets to the login, my computer resets. When it tries to get into repair mode I don't have any keyboard or mouse input, this is a build I made so I don't have any fancy oem recovery options ( and I was too dumb to make a backup disk).
My build has an nvidia gtx590 , and phenom II black edition, Asus mobo. I haven't d.l or installed any new hardware or software recently.
File Explorer / Windows Update Won't Load
Sep 12, 2015I've had Windows 10 for a couple weeks now, my laptop is running pretty slow (was bad before the update, I figured because it was mostly full but didn't seem to get much better after freeing up some space) and as of a few days ago File Explorer stopped loading most of my folders. Whenever I tried and go into one, e.g. Click on "Documents" it just says 'working on it' and endlessly loads. Thought an update might work but Windows Update won't work either, I just get the endless loading dots.
Btw I'm using a HP Pavilion DM4 Notebook (Beats Edition)
Cannot Get To BIOS From Windows Boot Manager
Sep 14, 2015I was playing with disc partitions and i accidentally deleted something... The problem is, that when i start my computer, Windows boot manager error appears (with no options, nothing, just some text about how should i reinstall / repair...), but when i start my computer, i have no way to access BIOS (I know how to access bios in my pc, I was accessing it like 20 times during last few days while installing various OSs... always with F2).
So actually I am stuck in a loop: start pc - cant access bios - windows boot manager error- restart - cant access bios - win boot manager error - restart....
With windows, i had problems with accessing bios before, but it could be solved by some kind of "absolute shutdown" of a system - holding shift while clicking "Shut down" - then i could easily enter bios with F2 during start.
Retrieving Windows Product Key From BIOS?
Aug 26, 2015How I can retrieve my windows product key from my BIOS? This for a 2 month old MSI Dominator GT72 PRO laptop which was purchased new with Windows 8.1 preloaded; no disc or product key label was provided. We recently did the free upgrade to Windows 10 and through a series of issues ended up letting the OS do a reset which did not work out.
Microsoft provided us a link to download Windows 10 for a clean install, which we did and is now on the laptop, however, it requires the original 8.1 product key to complete the installation. Microsoft tells me that the original product key should be retrievable from the BIOS since it was not provided with the laptop. What is the procedure to locate the key from the BIOS?

Aug 14, 2015I received notification that my Windows 10 reservation is now ready. After downloading and preparing to install through Windows Update, I receive a failure notice with error code 80070005.
I am currently on Windows 8.1 Pro x64. I have administrative privileges.
For several months, I've had an ongoing issue when I run 'sfc /scannow', corrupt files are found, some of which it cannot be repaired. From the CBS.log file, I found these related to "utc.app.json". I was assured that when Microsoft sent out update for DiagTracking (KB3022345), it causes a false positive for file corruption.
Also worth noting is that I currently have my boot SSD partitioned and configured to dual boot Windows 8.1 Pro and Linux. This all works fine, and I've been told this shouldn't be a problem for upgrading to Windows 10.
I would like to do an in-place upgrade to Windows 10, not a clean install, so that I keep all of my software and settings as they are.
Windows Corrupted Files SFC And DISM Image Recovery Fails
Aug 2, 2015I have been trying to fix my windows 10 corrupted files but I have been unabled to recover it. I tried every possible way of recovering using DISM commands, but to no avail. I tried also the sfc /scannow but as usual this command hardly ever fixes issues regarding corrupted files. I have tried using dism in several ways by specifying the location and the install.esd file from my usb flashdrive windows copy and even tried the health commands on powershell..still wont work. The first command I tried and for all of them I get the same error message, which looks like this:

Mastercook 15 Fails To Print - Windows Error And Program Shuts Down

Contacted Mastercook support and this is apparently a windows compatibility problem now. Note when using Mastercook 11 when trying to print receive error can't locate print drivers.

Jan 12, 2016I am running Windows 10 1511 10836, having upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 back in August 2015. This morning when I turned on my Lenovo B575 laptop, after the first Windows screen with animated circling dots at the bottom, when it refreshed the screen and went to the 2nd Windows screen, I noticed that the animation with the circling dots was slow. After several minutes, the computer was still on this screen. After 15 minutes and no change, I restarted the computer.
Upon 2nd startup I got the same results. On 3rd startup I got the Please Wait screen and then eventually got to the Startup and Repair screen. After diagnosing found nothing, I then went to the System Restore page and found that a Windows Update had installed yesterday afternoon. I restored to the Restore Point created yesterday, and restarted.
(Last Thursday I had to force the upgrade to the 1511 10836 update by downloading the 3.5Gb file because Windows Update kept failing. I have had no problems since then.)
No change. I can get to Safe Mode after 2 failed attempts, but without knowing what to check or look for, this does me little good. Of course can I reset/reinstall Windows 10 but would rather not if I don't have to.
