Erasing Windows Of Existing Machine And Put To New One
Jan 26, 2016
I have another Windows 7 installed on another Mac via bootcamp. If I am going to erase the Windows partition of this machine and install Windows 7 on another computer, do I need to contact MS to break the tie between Windows 7 and existing hardware before I can install Win7 on a new Mac with authentication?
What are the procedure? As far as I recall, in XP time, we needed to call MS when we changed machine.

I had a kali linux installed in my computer. Then I tried to install Windows 10 using a bootable USB drive. (I created it by downloading the windows 10 ISO and then creating USB drive using Rufus.) But when I was trying to install windows 10, it shows my hard drive, but it doesn't installing to it. Error message is the following:
Code:
We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files.
Then I checked for the log file (X:Windowspanthersetupact.log) It has this message:
Code:
LogReasons: [BLOCKING reason for disk 0: CanBeSystemVolume] The selected disk is not the computer's boot disk
I know that right ? USB disk is the boot disk here. Then I searched in the internet for a solution.
I came up with this: [URL]...
I followed all the instructions there. Cleaned my hard disk using DISKPART and formatting and stuff. Then I rebooted my machine. But, still it shows the same error.

I used XP for almost fourteen years without a problem. Now that I have windows10 I haven't been able to add pictures to exist8ing cd's. No problems with data or music. I also cannot view the picture CD's. I double click burn to disc but nothing happens. I get a list but no way to view it. I get a notice, these files are ready....etc. but when I click on a folder to transfer new contents...nothing happens. I'm at a loss on how to procede.

I'm planning on moving from Win 7 to Win 10 via a new install (although it seems I should upgrade first - I'll read about that). My questions have to do with my Win 7 applications...
#1) Is there a list someplace of applications that need to be "de-registered" so they can be registered on the new Win 10 clean install? For example, I'm pretty sure the Adobe suite has to be deregistered - maybe MS Office too?
#2) Is there a way to move an application? By that I mean I either don't have the original install files anymore or in some cases I've found some useful software from [URL] .... where you download the install file but it has to be installed and registered that day. If you wait a day, you can't register it. Any way to "move" these programs? I realize generally you can't just move applications and then the added complication of going from Win 7 to Win 10.

My nice new SDD arrived, I installed it into the PC and disconnected the other SATA drives bar the DVD, spun up my W10 DVD and fairly quickly had a new activated install of W10.
So I plugged in the old SDD (it has the old C: on it) and the HDDs and it booted off the old SDD.
Unplugged the old SDD, plugged in the new one plus the HDDs, it wouldn't boot.
Went back to just the new SDD installed, boots fine, hot-plugged the HDDs and it wouldn't see them.
So right now I'm back where I was with the old SDD and the two HDDs which are mirrored.

OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit (Upgraded from 7 Pro)
CPU: Intel i7-3820 CPU @3.60GHz, 32GB DRAM
MB: ASUS P9 X79 Pro L2011 socket
HD: Seagate Barracuda 3TB
PSU: 1200W Cooler Master Gold with X6 Fan in HAF X case
GC: AMD Radeon HD 6870 Graphics
LG DM2352D IPS TV HDMI Monitor
Bose Companion 5 External Speakers
Use: Mainly Office 2010, movies, photos and some CAD (no games or over-clocking!)
This is my hi-spec tower I had built for me in 2013 and I've had no end of trouble with it: Blue tooth not working, some USB2 and 3 sockets disconnecting and re-connecting erratically every few seconds, same with the HDMI monitor that does not integrate well with Windows, boot interrupts by Asus' POST saying the CPU Fan is not working which it is, WD My Book external drives seen in W7 but not in W10 and now, Adobe Acrobat DC Pro crashing after about 10 seconds of use.
Most of these issues still remain to the same or lesser degree: ASUS' after sales service and 3 year warranty is useless but Adobe went through the full test procedures and concluded that I needed a "clean" re-install of Windows 10. I am almost paranoid about keeping everything up to date, especially drivers and I am suspicious of generic drivers unless the hardware manufacturer says its OK like with the DVD optical drive for example.
From Windows 7 Update, the 10 Upgrade was seamless some months ago. But after clicking reset (keep my files option in Settings), and the process ran to the Welcome date page of rocks on the beach in shadow, Windows 10 will not proceed to the login page. Usually I just hit the spacebar but nothing. I have tried re-booting and re-setting but the same. Sometimes the MS plugged-in keyboard is active sometimes not. The MS plugged-in mouse is never active. Sometimes also the WiFi is connected but sometimes not. I have also tried ctrl-alt-del when the keyboard is working but also nothing. No I don't have a boot-up disc - I never needed one all through MS-DOS, 95, XP and W7!
There's nothing wrong with Adobe Acrobat DC Pro: I downloaded the allowable 2nd installation to my new DELL Inspiron 17 laptop on W10 Home and it runs like a train. But on my hi-spec desktop, it crashes after about 10 seconds and Adobe have thoroughly tested it all.
So what do I do to get to the login page?

By existing OS I mean by Windows 7 or 8 since those are the 2 versions that offer a free upgrade to the full version of Windows 10. So if I were to download Windows 10 on a brand new PC without any previous operating system then would I have to pay for the upgrade or not? Or would I have to be dual-booting the PC?

I've recently installed Windows 10 and since today I'm having this issue when I edit an existing Word document and try to save it.
The error:
"Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error.(C:User...Ongoing NotesInfoSoft.docx)"
I've noticed that there is a new user account that I didn't have before, which is an account associated to my Gmail. However, I've checked which account I logged in before opening the Word document, modifying and trying to save it - and it is an account with theoretically full control.how to fix it?

I am trying to install Windows 10 10130 onto my laptop's blank partition that is 400 GB. Upon installing I noticed it gives me an error that says "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one." I'm not sure what this means, as I have repeatedly formatted and erased the partition to no avail. I do have another partition with Windows 8.1 installed, so I am trying to salvage that and get the Windows 10 installed onto the other one.
For some strange reason. On boot, It asks me to pick either Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, and Windows 8 isn't installed...
This laptop is a mess. I bought it used, and it has only given me issues. Luckily I have my Desktop so it's not like I rely on this laptop.

I am trying to set up windows 10 for my mother.
She already has a POP3 email account.
Can the built-in 'Mail' check her existing email account, or just a Hotmail/outlook account (or both)?
I created an outlook email account for her just to use as a log in for Windows, but she primarily uses the POP3 email account.

GOAL: Create a dualboot system with a clean WIndows 10 installation on SSD while keeping my regular Windows XP for as long as I need it.
SITUATION: Monoboot system booting Windows XP from a regular HD. I already purchased an SSD for Windows 10, but need to install it.
QUESTION: Which steps (and in which order) should I take to make my goal as stated above achievable without (too much) hassle. I was advised by a friend to simply install the SSD, then start installing Windows 10 and everything would be ok as W10 would recognise the existing XP installation.

As a keen flickr member I have a lot of photographs on my computer. These are all neatly allocated to different files, depending upon a variety of variables. So far....all is well.
Yesterday my neighbour kindly upgraded me to Windows 10. Everything seemed fine.
Today I tried to take 4 photographs off my camera and load them up to my computer. Initially I got a dialogue box asking me what I would like to do in future when I plugged in my camera - I said "upload the pix to my computer".
Previously they have always arrived on my desktop in a separate file. I would then edit them, afterwards splitting them up into different files, depending on what I want to do with them.
Anyway, this morning, after taken 4 photographs, I plugged in my camera. I then get a message saying "We found 880 photos. Would you like to import them into your picture folder". And the only alternatives given were IMPORT or CANCEL.
I do NOT want all my pix jumbled together in a picture folder. I want them all neatly organized into the folders I have set up.
Is there any way I can get rid of this 'Picture folder' and go back to using my existing folders (they are all still there, and all still containing the photographs they should rightfully contain.)

My machine runs Windows 10 Pro 64-bit operating system. Yet when I open Task manager, I see 32-bit stuff on there. Does the 32 bit stuff slow down the machine and as this is a 64 bit machine are they relevant, and can they (the 32-bit programs) be upgraded or deleted.

I am trying to upgrade a number of machines to Windows 10 Pro. Latest one is a new laptop - fresh install and after it has been running a while it comes up at 100 CPU and it is something to do with Service host local system. This is not the only machine to be affected by this and what I have done to fix this is disable the windows update service.

Start, right click, Control Panel, Hardware and Devices: my camera (Nikon D7000) comes up. Import pictures fails. The error message says: 'no pictures or videos were found on this device'. Did the same thing on my Windows 7 machine (good thing its not yet upgraded). It correctly found 58 pictures and imported them.

Because my Windows 10 machine won't start correctly, I'd like to make a Startup Repair USB drive. Apparently, the main way to do this is from within Windows 10, but that's obviously not an option.I have access to a Windows 7 computer. If I make a Startup Repair drive there, will it work on Windows 10?
If not, can I at least use it to boot my computer and run chkdsk and sfc?Is there some website where (using my other computer) I can download the image of the Windows 10 Startup Repair, or something like that?

Yesterday I upgraded two Dell laptops and my desktop machine to Windows 10.
1. Search - On my two Dell laptops if I search for, say, User Account Control, at the top of the search results I will get a local result saying Change User Account Control settings. That result will be in grey. But on my desktop machine, if I enter the same search, I don't get any grey result at the top. All I can get on that machine is web results. I don't know what's different. I have initialized Cortana on all three machines the same way (I think). Why I am not getting local results on the desktop machine?
2. One of my Dell laptops has a fingerprint reader. It was working for logins when I had Windows 7 on the machine. Now that I have Windows 10 on the machine I cannot figure out how to get the reader working again.

Since I upgraded to 10 I have had constant issues. Mainly when I put the machine to sleep it wakes itself up automatically.
I have banned all deviced from allowing it to wake, removed it from any workgroups and a million other fixes I have seen online. Yet I can't get it to stay asleep.
After viewing logs this file: NvStreamKms.sys is set to "demand start" and the next entry is the computer waking.
