Trying to install Microsoft Visual C++ - 2008, but I keep getting error 997.Overlapped I/O operation in progress.
I am on windows 10, 64 bit.
I need visual c++ 2008 for afterburner, as it wont run without it.
The upgrade process seems to go on Ok, but, near the end I see this message:
"The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again.
"Errors 0xC1900101-0x20017
"The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation.
I have set up home network behind a router. every basic operations as folders sharing work but when I try from Windows 10 machine to join homegroup created from another computer running Windows 8.1 the operation is unsuccessful. The homegroup was firstly created on the Win8 machine. Same homegroup password is used same of course. Home group listener/provider services are started on both computers. Why is it not working?
View 2 RepliesAfter upgrading to Windows 10 I'm getting internet problems. Most pages are very slow to load, I often get connection timeouts and lag in some games, despite the ping not being really that high. I thought it could be a browser issue so tried other ones but it didn't work. I've already updated all the drivers, have the latest BIOS and deactivated the P2P sharing of Windows Updates in local connection and applied all the updates that came up with Windows Updates. Oddly enough, Steam downloads and voice chat don't present any problem.
I've already tried the connection troubleshooter, to no avail, and also tried to renew the IP using instructions in a Tom's article:
1. Press Windows Key + X and select “Command Prompt (admin)”.
2. Type ipconfig /release and hit Enter.
3. Then type ipconfig /renew and hit Enter.
4. Type Exit and hit Enter."
But when I applied the commands I got the following message: "no operation can be performed on ethernet while it has its media disconnected" I'm connected using an Ethernet cable.
Where have the Bluetooth phone operations and setting screen gone when I right click on my iPhone under devices and printers that option is not there which means I cannot show screen when phone rings or want to play audio files from my phone the option was there in windows 8.1

View 3 RepliesI have win 10 64-bit home on a 4th gen core -i5 laptop. I have a WDC 1T 2.5" USB3 drive. It is about half full. It used to do 60-70MB/s write speed. Since a few days ago, I noticed it has slowed down by a factor of 5-6 to 10-20MB/s. While copying large files, I watched what's going go. The System and compressed memory process was doing a lot of read and write on the disk. If the copy speed reported by the dialog is say 15MB/s, then system compressed memory process is reading 15MB/s and writing 30MB/s. It looks like this process is reading back the content written and writes back. It is consistent over reboot with several large files from 200MB to 7GB in size.
A couple of weeks ago I did a file backup. I created a 5GB virtual drive on my SSD and dumped all files to be backed up. Took only 5 minutes to copy the 5GB files to the virtual drive and copy the file to the WDC disk, at around 67MB/s, typical of this type of portable drives. While I was wondering what was going on, I tested the same files with a USB3 dock and a 2TB Seagate drive. Write speed is about 150MB/s. So I thought it was not a problem with all disks. The WDC drive has no compress to save space option, BTW. I wonder what's going on. I have AVG antivirus and I turned it off while copying and same slow 15MB/s speed.
I was performing a File Cleanup operation and it included something call Windows Defender. I always click to delete everything it displays. So I did and it deleted Windows Defender. I have since learned what it is and want to reinstall. I do not understand why Microsoft would allow you to delete a part of the system from the file cleanup screen? But it did. How can I reinstall?
View 2 RepliesI've got some new photos in my laptop recently and yesterday I was able to open any of them. I did it for the entire day. From this morning I suddenly can't open any photo. When I click on one of them it says ''the wait operation timed out'' after 10 seconds. I really need to open some photos. What can I do and why did this happen ? Also I can't open any music files as well.

View 3 RepliesCurrently attempting to download Windows 10, I do have the 'Get Windows 10' update installed, and I did reserve my copy. That notification has not yet prompted me that 10 is ready to install, so being the impatient person I am, I downloaded the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. From this tool I have both chosen the option to 'Install Windows 10' and 'Create media from this tool' (via USB flash drive that is 16GB and FAT32 formatted). When choosing these options, the tools first step is to download Windows 10. I've not been successful when downloading, it has been stuck at 0% overnight each time I've tried this. Why this can't download?

View 3 RepliesI don't remember how or when I made a change in File Explorer, but each time I call it up now, I get a slow moving progress bar in the bar where it identifies the location. I noticed there in the search bar it shows where it is going: "search (J:) Jack" as an example.
How do I stop this? It takes a lot of time, depending on the folder.
I play some Microsoft games, such as Microsoft Mahjong in my Windows 10 computer. I thought that if I install the game in another computer using my Microsoft account, I would be able to see all the levels I have played and continue from there. This is not the case. The game starts from level 1. Is there any way to save your progress to your Microsoft account or otherwise and resume playing from another computer? Like when you save your progress on Facebook in Android games and then resume from another device.
I only use my Microsoft account for specific apps. I don't want to connect my local Windows account to my Microsoft account, if this is possible.
I was trying to used media creation tool to upgrade from windows 8.1 to windows 10 but having progressed to over 75% it vanished from the desktop. What else should i do because it has happened twice. Better still, where can i find the downloaded setup on my pc.
View 3 RepliesI wanted to check on the status of my Win 10 updates so I looked in "settings" "update and security" and clicked on update. Nothing happened, all I get is the endless progression of dots which goes on forever. Stopping and restarting the Windows update services has no effect on this situation. Looks like this situation has been going on months now.
View 3 RepliesI just upgraded to win10. at boot up, my raxco instant recovery app is supposed to initiate a progress bar that gives you 10 seconds to click f1 in case you are having a problem, and you can retreat to a different snapshot. The progress bar isn't materializing. How I can correct this. I didn't have this problem in win7.

View 3 RepliesHave a clean install of W10 and by the day it seems to get slower, if i open this pc or even another folder the progress/search bar takes ages to respond. also some programs cant seem to find relative paths set also takes forever.
i had this problem years ago with vista and cannot think how i solved it.
so far have tried virus scan, indexing on/off, sfc /scannow all to no avail, even though it is my older pc it worked perfect under W7. i only have 20gb on HD and std defender a/v
I successfully downloaded Wondows 10 on my Lenovo Laptop. However, the installation looks like it's still installing, but after 4 hours is stuck before the halfway mark on the installation bar. How do I resolve this problem.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to clean install windows 10 on a custom build pc. I have a installation usb created by the Windows Media Creation tool. I boot, it goes into set up, and I choose which partition and all that. It begins installing. Then it restarts after it finishes getting the files ready.
This is when things go off the rails. When it boots back up, it returns to the initial set up screen. As if I had not just gone through the first part of the install. I have tried a few times and same result.
Build: OCZ SSD 240 gb
Asus MB
AMD CPU
I can write out the rest if it is relevant.
Latest (preview) build - file explorer not showing progress when copying / moving files.
This - unless fixed soon will cause me to revert to previous build. Is it just something with my update. (W10 Pro X-64).
So today, as it is all over Windowscentral, some of the MS core apps and VLC for Windows 10 got their updates. However, they are stuck at 0% and showing no signs of progress. I've tried cancelling them all, rebooting and download on at a time but it was no use.
View 21 RepliesI am upgrading a computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I completed the download, and got a message that the computer needed to restart to continue the installation. However, when I restart and the computer comes back up, the same message appears and the installation does not progress. When I go to check Windows updates in the control panel, it says it can't check for updates because another installation is in progress. I have restarted the machine multiple times with no progress - can't go forward, can't go back.

I also get a screen prompt, asking me to log on to my Hotmail account, which I don't really want to do, as I have Yahoo email.
So is it a requirement to log on to your Hotmail account, in order to download these Apps?
