I have windows ten and recently have check for updates and scanned with virus removal ESET and Webroot no infections and up to date but still freezes and get stuck. Google chrome does not but prefer explorer.
View 1 RepliesI am having an issue with updating Windows 10 (Pro). Every time I run Windows Update it appears to successfully download and pre-install the update (I believe it's the main upgrade from November?), but when I restart it gets to roughly 20% each time (roughly 86% files copied) in the pre-login install process and then freezes. I have had this happen a few times. I even reset my PC to a fresh install of Windows 10, as well as ensured that all non-essential peripherals are unplugged, but it has crashed a few times.
View 3 RepliesJust installed this build on another partition. The OS looks beautiful but it keeps on freezing, randomly. sometimes at the start up or sometimes when the cpu usage increases. The cursor doesn't move, cant even shutdown properly. I've updated my nvidia driver and everything, the problem is still there. Nothing's wrong here on 8.1.

View 4 RepliesMy PC regularly crashes. Usually with no notice it just freezes and never recovers, but occasionally it results in a Dpc_Watchdog_violation BSOD which in some cases it even manages to successfully reboot from.
The only pattern I can note is that the more stress the system is under, the more likely it is to crash. The fan speed usually correlates with the likelihood of a crash, but there have also been numerous occasions where it crashes with no warning or pattern.
It used to happen a lot back when I had Windows 7 on this machine, but after a fresh install of 8.1 it became a very rare thing to happen. However, since I upgraded to Windows 10 a few weeks ago, it happens multiple times a day.
Other than an SSD for the O/S and replacement HDDs, the machine is as it was when bought, an Acer Aspire M3300.
Because of that brief period where it worked fine with Windows 8.1, I suspect it's driver related, but I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert. The graphics drivers for the graphics card aren't supported on Windows 10 (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4350), but other searches suggest it works fine regardless.

View 1 RepliesMy PC keeps freezing randomly, can be while gaming, online or even when it is just sitting idle on the desktop. Iv'e reinstalled windows twice and updated all my drivers but it still keeps on happening.
My Specs are:
Intel Core i5 4430 - no overclock
1 x 4gb DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte B85M-D3H
Nvidia Geforce GTX 770
Cooler Master RS-500-PCAP-I3
When the crash happens there is no blue screen and the screen just freezes. If there is any sound playing it just goes into a buzzing sound and stays like this until I reboot, after this the PC starts like normal. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening?
One night I go on my pc to find out that it doesn't work properly anymore. I boot up normally but when I try to open any program, the loading icon appears on my cursor and after about 10 seconds my desktop crashes. My wallpapers turn from their normal wallpaper element to white plain background (the same way when a program is not responding it turns white).
Even if I am able to open a program, it will take 1 plus minute to open it, and then take another minute to close it. I tried to download drivers but it wouldn't let me because it just crashes.

I can't reinstall windows 10 as I don't have the disc since I got it for free from the windows 7 upgrade, and my windows 7 reinstallation disc is broken, so that's a no go.
All my desktop icons are stuck on the left side of the desktopAll file explorer view are stuck in details view. Now yes, I have turned off Auto-arrange, still refreshes to all icons on left. I have tired ALL sorts combinations of view + sort by... nothing. I have tired many anti-malware/virus scans and nothing has come up. I have tired CCleaner pretty much everything and the problem persists.
Of note, I had done a system restore a week and half ago to a specific point and that fixed the problem but for just a day, then it happened again. When I got around to having time to go for another system restore, that restore point was gone and now no other restore point is fixing the issue -_-That left me to think it might be something I installed or perhaps a windows update... but after having uninstalled pretty much everything I could that I installed in the last week as well as removing recent updates.... nothing. I have also tried making a new windows account (local)... nothing. Also tried in safe mode, still nothing.
I am experiencing random freezing of a Windows Explorer (file manager) window. What this means, is that I cannot click on a file, I cannot minimize, close the window etc.
However, I can open another instance (or more) of Windows explorer, that I can open files, copy & paste, drag & drop, close the window, etc
The only way I can get rid of the frozen window is going to task manager & telling Explorer.exe to restart
I successfully downloaded Wondows 10 on my Lenovo Laptop. However, the installation looks like it's still installing, but after 4 hours is stuck before the halfway mark on the installation bar. How do I resolve this problem.
View 2 RepliesThis is the first issue i have had with windows 10 ever since installing it in august. Ever since yesterday whenever i click on a file in the file explorer window it will gray out and stop working. Unlike the average hang this one will stay grayed out for about 5 to 10 seconds, my screen will go black for about half a second and than everything will be back to normal. I am thinking that this could be a virus but i have run a scan 2 times and nothing showed up. Other than the file explorer not working everything is fine. This is really weird since it only started yesterday and i have never had any issues like this in the 4 years that i have had my computer.
View 1 RepliesEver since I upgraded to W10, I get this problem wherein if I insert a disk in either of my two optical drivers, it would take Windows forever to read them and if I click them before they complete loading, Windows would become unresponsive and Explorer would crash. Mind you, it also happens even if the contents of the disk have already loaded. But even though the contents of the disk have showed, they all have blank white icons.I already tried sfc /scannow and they it reported no issues.
View 1 RepliesWhen I right click on a drive in explorer to get properties/use tools like defrag/disk checker it is crashing explorer. I have already done a "repair" install of 14257...I had 14257 installed already and essentially did a reinstall of it using an ISO image. I have done SFC/Scannow a dozen times and that isn't working either.

View 2 RepliesFor the past few months File Explorer "hangs" (freezes) when I attempt to perform any function (delete, move, copy, check properties, etc) on any selected file. I am using Windows 10 (Build 102400). When I launch File Explorer it comes up immediately and all panes in the window look perfectly normal.
But when attempting any function, the "you'll have to wait forever" blue ring comes up, and nothing else happens. A second right click of the mouse initiates the "not responding" message in the top line of the window, and still nothing else.
The programs just hangs in this state for about 15 minutes, after which the action select pull-down pane appears and you can then proceed to successfully carry out any normal file management function you may wish.
Whenever I right-click a file anywhere on the Desktop, the File Explorer crashes briefly and then comes right back up. This does not happen anywhere else, only on the Desktop.
I tried going to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/*/shellex/ContextMenuHandlers" with RegEdit and removing some of them, but to no avail.
Explorer appears to crash and restart every minute since upgrade to windows 10. I've restarted computer and verified we have latest updates.

View 1 RepliesI have Windows 10..Just recently I have found that when I open a folder on my desktop which opens in maximized mode, and then go ahead and click to restore the window to a smaller size, instead of doing so, the window restores to the width of the three buttons at the top (minimize, restore, close) and then the file explorer window crashes and freezes for a few seconds, my screen goes black for a few seconds, then I am returned to the desktop, where the window has closed.Is this a sign of hard drive corruption?

I assume there is some driver that I'm forgetting to download that is related to the battery or something?
I've got an Asus X205TA running windows 10.
Without indication or warning, stuff starts refreshing. Web pages ocassionally refresh on their own, even when I am in the middle of something. Sometimes they get stuck in a refresh loop, and the right/left click stops working (trackpad still registers movement, just no clicks) The little refresh circle spins, and even if the page loads completely, it almost immediately starts refreshing again. I have to hit Control+W to shortcut exit out of the tab, then Control+Shift+T to reopen.
Other times, only the mouse click stops working. I can still navigate with shortcuts, two finger taps (for right click) and the enter/tab keys.
Often these workarounds do the job, but sometimes only a reboot gets it back to working condition.
I've tried 5 different browsers - IE, Edge, Vivaldi, Chrome, and FF. Same issues on all of them.
The issue also pops up (but less frequently) in file explorer. Pages get stuck in a refresh loop just like the browser. This leads me to believe it is not a browser specific problem.
So this started like last week where i get these small lags when my pc freezes for like 1-3 seconds. It can happen when i play games or just browsing. It happens probably like 2 times every hour. This is a problem for me because when i play csgo and im shooting towards someone and everything just lags and i die. It's a small problem but it is really frustrating. And just today while i was playing Arma 3 my pc completely froze and i had to restart it by holding down the button on the case.

View 4 RepliesThis is a problem that has been plaguing me across years and several computers.Every hour or so, and it doesn't seem to matter what application I have open, Windows will become unresponsive for a few seconds. Then it will go away.
On this system I have 8 gb ram and I am running light applications. I have a new i-5 skylake processor and a good asus mobo. And a reputable SSD, too. I just installed windows 10 pro x64 a week ago. I have this problem even without third-party AV, as I found out after I uninstalled my AV.
I had to do a pc reset on a different pc. Everything went ok and pc reset froze at 10 % for ages.So i turned off pc and restarted it hoping this should be ok. Pc restarted ok but a box appears stating windows installation encountered an unexpected error click ok and restart pc to continue installation.
I follow the step but all i see is at bottom of screen with Delete and F2 BIOS setup and same message appears.ie my pc gets into a loop. How do i get my pc working again..or is pc useless now ?
