Explorer Suddenly Not Showing Free Space For One Partition?
Dec 12, 2015
This has suddenly happened, explorer is missing the 'space' information from the display.
The build up to this was simply creating a Windows disk image using W10's own utility. Mysteriously the space bar on the problem partition showed some usage, about 1.7Gb but nothing could be found in the partition. I've even tried deleting the partition in Disk Management and reassigning a drive letter but nothing gets the display back.

I've recently upgraded to windows 10 home version from windows 8.1 . My hard disk space before the upgrade was around 50GB. After the upgrade it was reduced to around 32 GB. I figured it was just because windows was storing some of the older files temporarily to allow for a rollback.
Today, i started my PC after it got shut down due to low power, the hard disk is suddenly showing 130 GB free space. All programs seem to be in place working fine. I just couldn't figure out where the additional space came from.

I am being told I don't have enough space on my device to upgrade to Windows 10. How do I free up device space to upgrade then? I have deleted multiple apps and nothing seems to work. What should I do?

I bought an HP stream to take to class with me because it just is too ridiculous to keep carrying around my 18.4" gaming laptop. Grew up a little and decided I didn't want to be "that guy". Anyways, I upgraded the stream to Windows 10 right out of the box. After the upgrade, literally 6 gb of free disk space. Now, I realize that 32 gb is a small SSD, but there's no way Windows 10 is 26gb. And yes, I've deleted Windows.old and literally everything that's not essential to running the PC. I need some sort of utility that uninstalls everything, literally only asking me what files I want to keep, and nuking away everything else. A clean install is possible but I would rather not, since I already activated Office and set everything up how I like it.

My laptop suddenly started lagging a lot. I opened Task Manager and saw that the Disk Usage was at 100%! The only things causing it to rise are the essential Windows Programs. This causes so much lag though, that if I try to run more than 1 application at a time, nothing starts responding and it forces Me to Force Shutdown manually by holding the power button. I tried a new Browser (went from Firefox to Chrome) and still the same problem. I decided I want to upgrade to Windows 10, since I'm qualified to have it free, but whenever I try to install it, the "Checking for Updates" loading bar never finishes and if I try to close it or anything else, it'll freeze up all over again.
What should I do? I had to go into Safe Mode to be able to make an account here and type this up. I've already uninstalled some stuff, even though I barely have anything occupying a lot of space to begin with. I certainly didn't download anything malicious, as the day before it started lagging, it worked absolutely fine and haven't downloaded anything from then on.

I recently upgraded my Windows 7 laptop to Win10. However, before I did the upgrade, I did a clean factory install of Win7, kept installing Automatic Updates until I get the option to Upgrade to Win10.
I have a 500gb HDD, that is partitioned in to two, C: for OS and D: for Local Disk (storage), currently the C: drive is 58.5gb, of which I have 13.5gb left, this is with having only Windows 10 installed AND Printer Driver and Software.
Is there any benefit of creating the Windows 10 media disk, reformatting with this Win10 disk, and getting rid of any of the rubbish that might of been installed in the process of doing a clean install of Win7.
OR re partitioning the Drive, so I can steal some of the storage from D: and give it to C: . I have 397GB of unused space on D:
I also just noticed, it states I have a Partition called RECOVERY, however, I don't seem to have this on My Computer view.

I cant seem to run MS Windows and Office auto updates (or manual).
keep getting the following message
'Updates are available, but we temporarily need 489.48 MB-489.48 MB of space to download. Remove some things you don't need right now and we'll try again.'
There is currently 10.6GB of free space on the system partition.
I have just (on Friday 20 Feb 2016) installed the Windows 10 upgrade from the MS site.
Took 6/7 attempts to finally get it done.
HDMI driver not working
Audio not working properly (keeps saying USB Audio playback default) I don't have anything plugged in. I have a realtek HD Audio installed.
Wifi is very flaky.....keeps disconnecting or reporting limited connection intermittently......15/20 times a day.
Running virgin Superhub, with 150mb pipe,
everything was working perfectly prior to the Upgrade from windows 7 sp1 to Windows 10.

After I free upgraded from 8.1 to 10 a new partition showed up. I just deleted it and it became unallocated space.
How can I merge this space with my primary partition. Both are on a 256 SSD.
When I right click C: in disk management, the extend volume choice is grayed.

Until recently, I ran a dual boot system with Ubuntu - but for business reasons, I uninstalled it (along with it's bootloader). Anyway, I cleared up the hard drive space in the Disk Management app on windows 10, I have about 350GB free space from Ubuntu and I cannot extend the C: partition, you can see what I mean here
I can't seem to extend my partition and whatever program I use I have to buy the full version to extend my partition,

So, I've had this 1Tb HDD lying around unused, so I had the bright idea of shoving it in place of my Dell Latitude E6410's original 640Gb HDD, use that in place of the old 60Gb HDD on my T60 (a mere 60Gbs just weren't enough to accommodate my Google Drive - running on Linux with InSync - and Mega cloud storage), and put my latest W10 Pro system image on the 1Tb in the E6410.
All well and good so far - except when I checked the partitions after I reinstalled the system image from the original 640Gb, this is what I got:
Which wasn't too surprising, given how Windows works. What I wanted to do was to expand C: into all that extra unallocated space, but as you can see, the recovery partition is in the way. I wouldn't be too surprised, either, if there was no workaround that doesn't involve reinstalling Windows.

Today I was playing Rocket League with my room mate. I've got it along with some other 700 GB of data located on my E drive partition. After we finished, he plugged in a USB stick to get something from my PC, and then he found out that the E partition was completely wiped. I asked him what did he do, he told me he just plugged in the USB stick. There were no delete prompts, nothing. I checked to see that maybe they were hidden, but they're not. The drive shows that 784 out of 784 GB's of space is free.
I tried a system restore, but as expected it came to no avail. Something I've noticed though, that all the files I download afterwards are getting automatically deleted, but things like JPG's and and txt files do not. Also, whenever I restart/restore the PC, a program I have, Free Download Manager, keeps reinstalling itself. The curious thing is, the C drive (which is my win dir) is untouched, along with the USB stick that was put in the PC.
I scanned the partition using EaseUS drive recovery tool, and found all (perhaps most) of the almost 1 million files that were deleted. I want to try to restore them, but I do not think that will be useful, since anything I get/download automatically gets deleted. This is a very complicated situation and I have some very personal files in there that I do not want lost.
Specs:
* Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 10240)
* Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.5GHz
* Memory: 8192MB RAM
* GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
* HD: SeaGate Barracuda ST1000DM003-1ER162 (I only got this hard drive in my PC)
Apparently, all my DLL's seem to be missing as well in the directory C:WindowsSystem.

I had 2 useless partitions, one at the very beginning of my HD and the second at the very end. My setup is GPT Basic btw.
I would like to know, using MiniTool Partition Wizard version 9.1, if it is possible to merge these former partitions (now 'unallocated' space) into the Windows partition (C??
I right clicked on both of the unallocated space 'partitions' but any operations (namely, move) was greyed out.
I would like to clean up the disk layout (even if we are talking about only 1 GB. of space)

I just assembled a new PC. It has a single 4TB hard drive. During Windows 10 installation, I created a 200gb partition to install to as the C: drive. It auto partitioned my drive into a 500MB system reserved partition, my C: drive, and two unallocated spaces of 1852.69GB and 1678.02GB respectively. The 1852GB space I can create a partition on, but the 1678GB space I cannot do anything with: Cannot create a partition, and cannot combine it with the rest of the unallocated space.
I would like to combine the two unallocated spaces to create a single partition from the remaining unallocated spaces, but cannot figure out how. I contacted Microsoft tech support via chat, allowed them to remote in to my machine, but they could not determine the issue either.

I have a 120 gig solid state hard drive, that I have my OS installed on (Windows 10)
I was going to install windows 7 on a second partition on that hard drive, so I shrank the current partition and it gave me unallocated space.
I had a few people tell me it wasn't possible to install windows 7 on the same hard drive as windows 10... for some reason or another.
So I decided to expand the partition back to its original size (the whole hard drive).
Before I shrunk the partition.. I had 60 gigs left, I shrunk it by 20 to install windows 7 on.
Well after some people told me it wouldn't work. I decide to re-expand the partition to take back up the whole drive.
Problem is, when I did that.. I loss that 20 gigs, it says that 20 gigs is 'used' space now. I tried scanning the hard drive for errors and defragging (won't let me defrag that drive.. I assume cause its either a solid state drive or the windows drive)
I don't know how to get that lost 20 gigs back.

I just performed an upgrade from win 7-64 to Win 10. I had a 128GB SSD with the OS installed and a 4TB Seagate drive broke into two partitions- F and H drives at 2TB each. These were both application partitions only. After the upgrade, only one partition showed up (F) and the (H) is gone. The F drive now shows 1.6TB of unallocated space which I assume was the H drive. Drive manager doesn't let me do anything with it.

I have a two laptops with Windows 10 x64. Recently I noticed new partition with next available letter. Size is 128mb and it can't be accessed. I checked in Disk Management but this partition is not listed there as per the below screen:
I used MiniTool Partition Wizard and managed to see details about this partition.
I tried Diskpart to remove Drive Letter but no luck:
This happened at the same time on my two HP laptops but not sure what could cause it. Maybe some Windows update? I do not remember installing any new apps. I would like to remove this disk from the list of available disks.

I noticed that when opening Desktop in Windows Explorer, it doesn't show any of the icons of This PC, My Documents, Network and Recycle Bin. I have enabled these icons to be shown on the Desktop through the "Desktop Icons Settings" option. However, Explorer ignores them and only shows icons that are manually put on the Desktop.

I have recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro and everything was fine then. But recently I am experiencing an issue which is "Pinned items and Jump List are not displayed in File Explorer in both Taskbar and Start Menu". Pinned items and Jump Lists are displayed for other programs in Taskbar as usual but the issue is only with File Explorer. I have restarted the PC but still the problem persists and I have also disabled Cortana.
System Specs:
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo
Motherboard - Gigabyte (G31M-ES2L)
RAM - 4 GB
Graphics Card - NVIDIA GTX 560 (2 GB)

I have several server drives mapped to my Surface Pro 3 tablet, and from time to time they disappear from Windows Explorer and XYplorer (an Explorer replacement). They are still there and mapped, as Net Use shows them mapped properly. But to get them tho show up in either Explorer or XYplorer, I have to physically remap them (right click: Map Network Drive...) and when I do so they already show up with the proper drive connection but won't appear unless I finish the remapping. XYplorer has a tool to reconnect all network drives, but nothing happens there.
