File Server - Network PCs Not Appearing
Dec 13, 2015
I am trying to set up a file server with other computers on my network but they are not appearing the advanced sharing section. My computer is called KSERVER and I would like GEZA-PC to appear there. They are both on the same network connection and it appears in the Network section of the File Explorer.

I have been having issues with my WD MyCloud NAS not showing up under Network on the left navigation pane of File Explorer. I am able to access the NAS by entering the host name (WDMYCLOUD) in the address bar in File Explorer. I was able to find a solution that fixes this and makes my NAS appear in Network as expected. The solution involved running Command Prompt as Admin, executing some commands, then restarting the computer.
What I would like to do is automate this process by creating a batch file that will:
Open Command Prompt as AdminAutomatically enter specific commandsClose Command PromptRestart the computer

Under the Network tab of File Explorer, I can see three entries, one of which is my router (with attached Hard Drive) and two computers, each running Windows 10. When I expand the router entry, I can see my hard drive files. I can also see my Users icons when I expand one of the computer's tabs. However, when I click on the other computer's name to search for users, all I see is a message that "This folder is empty". In fact, the folder is not empty, as there are two users on the computer. How I can get this computer to show users, etc.?

I need this for work. I don't want to have to buy a laptop with Windows just to do this. I am running UbuntuGnome 15.10 on my laptop. I need to connect to file shares on a Windows 10 Desktop on the same network. This desktop has one user. The user has it set up so that when computer is powered on, it automatically logs into the user's account without a password. I need to access a folder that is shared on that machine.
When I attempt to access it from laptop, I am prompted for a USER ID and PASSWORD for the WORKGROUP. If I enter the user's ID without Password, i cannot access the folder. I have tried different combinations but cannot get access. I want to automount this when I log into my laptop as I need access to work.

I recently set up a Homegroup on a Win10 laptop so I can see another PC on the network. That PC is running Win8.1, and I would like to use it for file backup. The devices are visible on both ends of the network and have connectivity, but when I choose to use the File Backup function from the laptop, nothing transfers and eventually I have to restart because of no response from the system. Also, my browser will stop working. I have added the PC as a network location and specified the location for backup, but is has locked up twice now. Could this be a routing issue? I previously ran the auto backup feature to a memory card, but need more space.

I keep getting a random pop-up that appears periodically throughout my work day. I ran 'sfc /scannow' and analysed the log file, but it is difficult to decipher for me. The only conclusion I can arrive at, since the problem only started occurring fairly recently, is that a Windows Update is the culprit. The screenshot I am providing states that, "User Data Access_XXXXX has stopped working." The 'XXXXX,' I believe refers to a memory allocation since it is different quite frequently. The most recent one is: "47c0B," but it has been several others.

Here's exactly what happens: I turn on my computer. Get to the lockscreen, tuck that away, enter my password so I can get to the desktop. Right when the desktop starts to appear, I get the above message.
When I searched this message online, all I found were various references to programs and apps. But this message doesn't appear when I run a program or app -- it just appears when my computer starts up.
I've looked in the "Startup" tab of Task Manager to see if there are any apps that shouldn't be there; I've also looked in Programs and Features to see if I've installed any programs recently that might be causing a problem. This has been happening for the past, oh, 3 or 4 days now. And honestly, the only installation/update I can see is a Windows 10 update.

I was intending to roll back to 7 before the final release of 10 so that be licence carries over, but while I was in the windows leading up to the roll back I ended up clicking cancel on the last window. Now the option to "Revert back to Windows 7" is no longer there. I have tried rebooting and I am just now seeing if installing updates will bring it back, but how I may be able to get this function back it would be pretty rad. I won't have to do a clean install of 7.

I have a program xyz which has installed and put a short-cut on the desktop.
I have drilled down to C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms and 'yes'... there are my programs, but they do not appear in All Apps listing.
Since I do not want to have the shortcut on my desktop, I want to be able to get to it through All Apps, I am a bit non-plussed, never had this problem with W7.

If I copy paste the line seen on screenshot, then this is what i get:
Code:

I'm 100% sure it's not malware or any other type of malicious software, so please don't start saying that my pc has a virus. What I'd like to know, is where it's coming from and why is windows 10 doing this?
In past, in win 7, i've seen similar chinese characters somewhere in documents and settings folders within some files, i was cleaning my files, going through all the folders in docs and settings and i saw some files having similar names.
It's a fresh install of windows 10, I haven't downloaded anything, but simple things, such as google chrome, ccleaner, winamp, skype ..etc, everything from trusted sources only, so clearly it's not a virus or malware, whatever it is, it's within windows 10. I'm just trying to figure out why my PC is going chinese on me.

I have an external hard drive connected to my W10 PC. Sometimes when I boot (not all the time) I get an error message that the recycle bin is corrupted because the drive is showing as one of the drives that utilizes the recycle bin. It then asks me if I want to empty the recycle bin, which I do. I then go in and change the recycle bin properties to NOT include that drive path.

I downloaded Deus Ex Human Revolution DC, and after beating it, I wanted to go in with a trainer and commit some wanton shenanigans. I'm a simple man like that.
However, the trainer, which worked before, has suddenly refused to work by giving me the "Sorry, this application cannot run under a Virtual Machine." prompt.
Hyper V is already off and my Antivirus is disabled + Windows Defender. It should be working no problem. Sadly, no.
How to shut off this Virtual machine or fix the problem in some way?

I have two computers that I'm trying to get to communicate with each other so I can move files back and forth between them. My plan is to make one of them the home's backup and main storage system. the problem is that I can only seem to get one of them to actually communicate equally. Computer 1 is a factory Lenovo Intel i3 computer. Computer 2 is a home made AMD that I just built a few weeks ago.
Both are running Win 10 Pro.
Both are physically attached to the router. Heck, they're physically stacked on each other on my desk....
Using File Explorer, on the left side Panel under Network, it shows both computers: AMD and Lenovo.
Computer 1(factory) is able to the files on Computer 2 easily by going over through File Explorer. But, if I click on one of the files, I get the message that I DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION. If I try to cut/Paste files from Computer 1 to computer 2, I get the same message.
Computer 2. I am also able to see the computer listed under Network in the left panel. When I click on Computer 1 to access it, I get a Network Error Windows cannot access Lenovo (Computer1) Error code 0x80070035
I've tried the Diagnose option and it doesn't work.
If I click on a Drive under Network on the very computer, I can see the drives, I can see the directory list. If I click on a file, I get the error. Example on the left side panel on my AMD computer I select:
>AMD
>C:
>PerfLogs
It's at this point that I get the error: Windows cannot access amdcPerfLogs as an example
I've tried running through Homegroup setup and Googled for days on setting up a network with Windows 10 and can't seem to figure out what I'm not doing here to make these computers talk and communicate with each other. I eventually, want to get all my computers to talk to the AMD so I can use it for a main storage/backup for the home network.

I have a few Windows 10 systems with clean installs (not upgraded) whose C: drives are filling up with random hex named folders; over 50K of them. From what I have read, this could be related to temporary update folders, but they are not being deleted. The folders are named something like "00b332a3dcbf71fb88" and contain 0K of data, but they are extremely annoying.
What these folders could be and if there is a way to either stop these folders from appearing or at minimum, to redirect them to another location not on the root of the C: drive? If these are related to Windows updates, I will not be able to shut those off as these systems are all part of a group policy that keeps them on. I can shut down that policy, but prefer not to have to do that.

Whenever I open file explorer multiple copies of the documents and pictures folders appear in the side bar. When I click on them they are all exactly the same. It starts off with one then a second appears then a third. Thirteen is the most I have seen so far.
What is causing this or how I get it to stop? (Picture attached)

Windows 10 Home factory installed on a new HP Envy. On boot up, there are times when the taskbar doesn't become populated and the default icons on the right and left don't function. Then there are times when the taskbar icons are populating, but the default icons don't function. And then there are times when all is working properly. I don't know why this happens, but I have noticed this: At night I shut the computer down. This morning when booting up, the computer went very quickly to the initial opening screen. Clicking on this screen then opens the password screen, and after entering the pw, windows opens fully but without a populated taskbar or functioning default icons. I then restarted the computer, but this time the boot-up took a longer time. The HP logo appeared with the "circling" icon, then there was the blue screen with the "circling" icon and finally the opening screen that needs to be clicked to then open the password screen. Entered the pw and the windows screen opened with a fully populated taskbar and functioning default icons.

Sometimes when I restart my PC the volume button doesn't show up in the Task-bar. Some days its there and its fine but other days I cant seem to locate it and going in and manually disabling it and re-enabling it does nothing. The pictures below show my task-bar without an icon and the next picture shows that its on, I have switched it on and off and it does not appear.
