View 1 RepliesToday after starting my computer, I realized that quick access items disappeared and I am unable to pin anything.
In addition, all pinned items in the menu that appears when you right click on the file explorer disappeared as well.
I am attaching images to clarify the issues. How to solve?
When I try to drag shotcuts to it, it shows a no symbol (red circle with a dash through it) no matter which item I try to add to it. I had no problem adding anything in it every time I upgraded or reinstalled Windows 10 but after the last reinstall I'm having this problem. I suspect that this could get resolved by some registry hack.
View 2 RepliesThis is the first issue i have had with windows 10 ever since installing it in august. Ever since yesterday whenever i click on a file in the file explorer window it will gray out and stop working. Unlike the average hang this one will stay grayed out for about 5 to 10 seconds, my screen will go black for about half a second and than everything will be back to normal. I am thinking that this could be a virus but i have run a scan 2 times and nothing showed up. Other than the file explorer not working everything is fine. This is really weird since it only started yesterday and i have never had any issues like this in the 4 years that i have had my computer.
View 1 RepliesSo File Explorer Quick Access shows Recent Folders, because I pinned it to be there:
But, when you go to "Save as" dialog box, Recent Folders inexplicably disappears from Quick Access:
Why is that? How can I fix it so that "Save as" and "Open" show Recent Folders in Quick Access in navigation pane?
Whenever I right-click a file anywhere on the Desktop, the File Explorer crashes briefly and then comes right back up. This does not happen anywhere else, only on the Desktop.
I tried going to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/*/shellex/ContextMenuHandlers" with RegEdit and removing some of them, but to no avail.
When i open file explorer to view any drive or "my computer " etc , the folders , quick access panel , all are aligned to the right , and "minimize , maximize control" is shifted to top left , instead of top right , by default it is other way around , this is problematic , as i am habitual of using quick access panel in right , and maximize /minimize control in top right , it has changed unintentionlly , and now i can not correct it , i have tried many properties menu, but i can't find the setting related to this .
View 6 RepliesWhen I download a pdf file (A billing statement in this case), I would like to select "Save As" and be able to select the folder directly from one of the folders shown in Quick Access that is shown in File Explorer without having to rummage through all the folders on my three drives. Right now, "Save As" causes the folder selection to start with My PC. Is there an easy way for the list of folders in Quick Access to be displayed when I select "Save As" to save the file? Starting in My PC makes me go through the mess of finding the folder in which I want to save the file.
View 2 RepliesI have Windows 10..Just recently I have found that when I open a folder on my desktop which opens in maximized mode, and then go ahead and click to restore the window to a smaller size, instead of doing so, the window restores to the width of the three buttons at the top (minimize, restore, close) and then the file explorer window crashes and freezes for a few seconds, my screen goes black for a few seconds, then I am returned to the desktop, where the window has closed. Is this a sign of hard drive corruption?
View 1 RepliesWhenever I right-click on a file name in Explorer the screen dims and clocks, and the file parameters don't display. I have to shut down explorer. I can open files, just not right click.
View 2 RepliesSo I'm having a neat issue with Windows 10 that involves my desktop/file explorer to stop working on a right click. So pretty much what is happening is whenever I click an icon on my desktop (except for the recycle bin) I get the loading circle and then if you click somewhere or open a program and then go back to the desktop it will flash whatever color you have set as the theme color (for me a blue and it did the same when it was red) and then go back to the desktop and all icons are moved back to their very original positioning (right under each other).
Then for the file explorer (I think it would still be called file explorer when in a folder) when you have a folder open and you try to right click something in the folder it does the same and says the folder is not responding and will close it. Now if you have a folder open and you do the right click on the a desktop icon and it does the refresh thing it will also close any folders you have open. Not programs, just folders and if I have music playing or anything it doesn't skip or pause that either.
As for what I've tried there was a video on Youtube that had you go into the Shellex folder in RegEdit and delete some folders but that didn't fix anything. I also tried downloading ShellExView and disabling all 3rd party context menu editors (There were only two, Avast! and WinRar) and that changed nothing as well.
As for my actual PC I have:
GPU: GTX 980ti
CPU: i7-4790k
OS: Windows 10
I've had this issue for a while now because I assumed it was just a Windows 10 bug and would get fixed but it hasn't yet so now it's just annoying. I'm not sure if I even installed something right before it started happening because it had to be about a month ago if not more. I really don't want to have to do a clean install because I have TERRIBLE internet and it would take over a week of straight downloading to get all my games and what not downloaded again.
I should probably also add that I have a Corsair K70 RGB Keyboard and the lighting resets to the basic rainbow setting when it freezes. But I haven't tried uninstalling that or anything.
I'm running windows 10 that was upgrade from windows 8.1, the first time i don't care about this quick access feature so i change the default explorer to 'This PC' and then i find this feature is somewhat useful for me, and when i want to use it that looks like this feature not grouped and it's a little annoying, is there any way to fix this problem.
View 4 RepliesI'm not a fan of quick access/frequent folder/recent files. I liked the windows 8 system. Reason is because I don't want people who use my computer to have quick access to files that are personal or nsfw.
I don't to use a type of security system because I use my computer often at work and at home so it would waste time. I just want to avoid those moments when people borrow my computer spontaneously and Quick Access is the first thing in the files explorer. I just want to classic file explorer system.
I have dual screens and have two task bars. I have an exe I'd like to pin to either Quick Access or my second task bar, but I can't find anyway to do either. Any way to do this ?
View 3 RepliesI just installed Windows 10 and have noticed that the quick access tab doesn't work. I have turned on "show recently used files in quick access" and "Show frequently used folders in quick access" , but still nothing show up on the quick access tab, even though ive accessed many files and folders. Also i can't pin any folders to the quick access.
View 1 RepliesWhile it shows recent files, somehow my pinned folders were removed.
This is after doing a clean installation of Windows 10 (via Reset my PC post-upgrade from 8.1 Pro).
Here's the dialogue box when I try to pin my user folder to Quick Access:
Here's what my Quick Access folder looks like:
As you can see, my recent files show up, but my pinned folders have disappeared and Windows does not allow me to pin any folders at all (via error above).
I upgraded to Windows 10 several months ago and the Quick Access menu was working normally. A few months back however, all of the pinned items disappeared and I cannot pin anything to the quick access menu either.
I can find and all I have been able to do is temporarily fix the problem by deleting the "5f7b5f1e01b83767.automaticDestinations-ms" file in the C:UsersRobAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsRecentAutomaticDestinations folder.
Deleting this file does bring back the quick access folders that I had pinned before this problem started to happen, but every time I restart my computer, the quick access menu is again empty and nothing can be pinned to it.
This all started when something happened to my registry and I was unable to create new folders.
On my "Quick Access" tab in my File Explorer, it duplicated all the folders. At first I thought it would simply correct itself if I restarted my laptop, but it made it worse. Now the duplicated folders have no names and I can not delete them because an error pops up saying that the folder does not exist.
If i click the the files icon it doesnt work, but if i go to the pinned file explorer folder downloads and close it and try quick access again it loads just fine
This has been going on ever since i updated from Win8
I'm not sure when it started, but all of a sudden I discovered that I did not have the ability to Drag and Drop a file from File Explorer's right pane to the left pane. I get the circle with line through it indicating that I can't do that. I can drag and drop a file within the right pane but not to the left pane. To move a file, I could only copy or cut and paste.
I wondered if some of the registry tweaks that I performed to clean up the Navigation Pane some days earlier might be causing the anomaly. I had followed Shawn's tutorials to remove Videos, Pictures and Music folders. I also removed HomeGroup and Quick Access. His instructions worked flawlessly.
To see if any of those tweaks was causing the DnD problem, I systematically reversed each one, one at a time. Here is my finding.
As soon as I restored Quick access my ability to Drag and Drop in File Explorer was restored! To verify my findings, I removed Quick access and lost my DnD again. Restored it a regained DnD again. I Hope this can be useful for those who are having the DnD problem.
How do you remove Quick access from the left side of your folders when you have the navigation enabled? I can remove all of the icons under it just fine, but I cannot remove Quick access as a whole.
View 9 RepliesHow can I remove "quick access", or at least change the option to point to a file in the folder where I save it.
Only after saving several files that were directed to "My Documents" (not on C: drive) did I find that I couldn't locate them. I finally found them on "quick access".
I went to customize the bar but when I clicked on "Customize Quick Access Toolbar" nothing happens. All I can do is add or delete the six options that is presented. I previously customized it and used that a lot! It is a deal breaker for me. Any work around or should a buy CD and reinstall 8.1 which came on the machine?
View 1 RepliesI have noticed that some folder i use have appeared under the quick access list and there does not seem to be a a way of removing them
Folders i have added to this list have a small pin on the right and its easy to unpin them but these folder do not have the pin so how do remove.
I can't seem to remove them. I have right clicked it but there is not delete option. My only option to get rid of them is to delete the folder which are originally in "documents" which I don't want to do. However, even when I delete the folders from documents, the folder on the sides will be replaced with another folder.
(The folder faces, graphics and tactics are for a game if you were wondering.)
You used to be able to change the names of the items in quick access - like you can a shortcut - in Windows 8, but now you can't. Other than replacing all of them with shortcuts, any way of changing this?
