After a system refresh of Windows 10 all external disk storage drives, Micro SD and USB are listed twice in file explorer. This is a common problem, reported many times in forums and community support web sites. Could a solution be to reload file explorer. Is this possible and where would I find the download?
View 1 RepliesIn Windows 10 File Explorer keeps showing multiple Documents Folders then they disappear and come back again all without my doing anything.
View -1 RepliesUsing Win10 Pro x64. I would like to disable windows showing .zip files in explorer as a folder...When you highlight it the contents inside the .zip are shown in the right pane view. I've scoured the net and found ways for Win7(which I did disable .zip folders on my other Win7 machine) and Vista, perhaps 8 too but I don't want to risk trying a method for older versions of windows. Any solution/reg hack or whatever to disable .zip folder?
View 5 RepliesMy external drive(Samsung) connected via usb3 has started showing twice in file explorer. Opening either shows exactly the same files inside. Screen shot below, I've never tried this so I hope I've done it OK...
View 3 RepliesI have recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro and everything was fine then. But recently I am experiencing an issue which is "Pinned items and Jump List are not displayed in File Explorer in both Taskbar and Start Menu". Pinned items and Jump Lists are displayed for other programs in Taskbar as usual but the issue is only with File Explorer. I have restarted the PC but still the problem persists and I have also disabled Cortana.

I had trouble making new flders in File Explorer last week but managed to fix that (at least for a day). I can now make new folders again, either via the tool bar or by right-clicking, but once the folder exists, when I try to re-name it I get an error window popping up that says: Can't find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name. I just got the computer to make the folder, why can't it find it?
View 6 RepliesI took the option to upgrade from W7 quite early on and in the main I am a happy bunny - really liked W7/hated W8 although it had some meat features. I think W10 gives the best of both worlds but there is one thing that really bugs me ... triplication of folders showing in file explorer. See the image below:
As you can see, the folders that are in my Library are replicated in"Steve Goodfellow" and "Steve-Laptop" but the contents aren't the same. The folders in "Libraries" contain what I expect (and want) them too. In the other two locations both the Documents and Pictures folders are empty whilst the Music and Video folders contain the same as those in Libraries.
How I can get rid of the replicated folders? I don't know if this is relevant but both my laptop and desktop computers are the same.
I Just received my new desktop PC a few days ago with a clean windows 10 install. After just a 2-3 days im suddenly unable to open any folders/file explorer.
Yesterday I formatted and reinstalled windows. And after just 10-12 hours I can no longer open any folders, again.
I have recorded a video of how it looks: [URL] ....
As you can see the screen flashes briefly and then all the icons rearrange on the desktop.
Programs i have installed:
- Some Blizzard games
- Office 2010
- Dropbox
My new laptop has Windows10 pre-installed. It crashed and file explorer won't now show recent files. It seems to be showing recent folders but there are no recent files. Settings/personalisation/start shows "recently opened files" is turned "on" and File Explorer is showing on the Task Bar....
View 1 RepliesMy Windows 10 File Explorer is muddled showing many items, and in particular USB Flash Drives twice!
View 4 RepliesSo I have had Windows 10 for a couple of months now, and have never had any issues up until now. Whenever I try to rename a folder/ add new folder file explorer freezes as soon as i touch the keyboard.
I've scoured the internet for solutions but have had no success it's getting extremely frustrating as I can't keep having
New Folder...New Folder 1...New Folder 2 etc.
I've been looking into my keyboard and if the drivers are all working correctly. I have a Razer DeathStalker Ultimate. all drivers are up to date with Razer Synapse.
After installing Dropbox, I notice that there's now a custom link to the Dropbox folder in my File Explorer > Navigation Pane > Desktop list (see screenshot below).
How I can add such (sym?) links to other directories on the computer?
Specifically looking for ways to add to list in the "Desktop" section of Navigation Pane... not the "Quick access" list.
My thinking is... I'd like to consolidate shortcuts to my custom cloud storage folders. Right now there's OneDrive (built in to W10) and Dropbox, and I'd like to add similar links for my Google Drive, Amazon Cloud Drive, etc. directories. Trying to have them all appear together under "Desktop", rather than split between Desktop and Quick Access.
I was wondering/can't figure out if I can hide the desktop library and other things from the file explorer.
View 3 RepliesWhen I right-click on a folder in the Navigation pane (that's the far-left window in File Explorer, right?), I see "Expand" right at the top of the drop-down box. However, it is grayed out.
If I go to File>Change Folder and Search Options, I can turn on Open Each Folder in The Same Window, but it doesn't actually work.
As things stand, if I want to move a file from one folder to another, I have to open a separate window. In all previous versions of Windows, that wasn't necessary, because you could expand all folders right in the navigation pane.
I don't know if it is a pure coincidence, but yesterday I tried to upload some photos from my Smartphone and this is what's happened! It is very frustrating and I have googled the problem umpteen times with various wording and tried a few of the suggestions (Windows main support page included) but the probem persists. I'm ready to either go down the very tedious route of a clean install of W7 (which I would loathe to do) or chucking my computer out the window which would be even worse!
View 9 RepliesI just put the 1511 upgrade on (for the third time, but that's another story). I've noticed that when I open File Explorer I have a WHOLE BUNCH of USB ports that have nothing plugged into them... What the upgrade did, but these weren't visible previously. How do I turn them off?
And yes, I've gone into the File explorer options in the control panel and UNCHECKED "Hide empty drives". Didn't appear to make any difference...
I'm on a Windows 10 Pro PC accessing a linux server with samba etc installed and working well (visible via Homegroup to both Android and Windows 7 pro). From the Win 10 box, if I type the name of the server in Windows File Explorer, then the shares from the server show up without issue. However, if I go into the Network folder, it does not see the linux servers - even though they are correctly configured for the correct homegroup. My windows 7 machines can see the servers in "network" as can my android devices.
Here's a screenshot. Note, the red arrows show what displays in Network folder (red arrows). If I click on the Server Name (HunterNAS in this case), the server shares are displayed and it shows up in the Network folder (blue arrows). Even after making the successful connection, display of another file explorer window > Network folder displays no linux server shares...
I have two machines running Windows 10 Pro, called Ermintrude and Dougal. The shared home folders on Dougal are not visible in the Network folder in File Explorer on Ermintrude. However I can access them from Ermintrude by entering dougal at the search prompt. How to make them properly visible in File Explorer?
Further information: Ermintrude's shares are fully visible on both Ermintrude and Dougal. Dougal's shares are visible only on Dougal. Dougal is also invisible in the HomeGroup on both Dougal and Ermintrude, whereas Ermintrude is visible on both.
Latest (preview) build - file explorer not showing progress when copying / moving files.
This - unless fixed soon will cause me to revert to previous build. Is it just something with my update. (W10 Pro X-64).
I don't know if this is related to Win10, or an issue that existed with my Win8.1 before. I just noticed it after upgrading yesterday.
So, my firewall just prompted me about an outbound connection attempt by a file (named C:WindowsSystem32SIHClient.exe) and I didn't recognize it. I found it using explorer, and it's unsigned; so I visited VirusTotal.com and tried to upload it... but from the file upload browse box in Chrome I can't see the file! Even typing *.* and open doesn't remove the "filter" and reveal the file. (I finally ended up copying it to desktop and uploading from there, but still don't know what the file does.)
I thought that Explorer's "File View Options" (show hidden files, do not hide operating system files, etc.) were used throughout Windows once applied. Am I wrong? Should I suspect a virus or is this normal? What gives?
So File Explorer Quick Access shows Recent Folders, because I pinned it to be there:
But, when you go to "Save as" dialog box, Recent Folders inexplicably disappears from Quick Access:
Why is that? How can I fix it so that "Save as" and "Open" show Recent Folders in Quick Access in navigation pane?
Cannot move, copy or delete folders in widows 10 file explorer. I get the message "cannot find item This is no longer located in F:video. Verify the item's location and try again." Does not matter which drive or which folder, this is always the result. I can however click on the folder, open it and move, copy or delete the files inside the folder. I am then stuck with empty folders all over my computer.
I have been using Windows 10 for a number of months without this issue, just stared happening this morning.
After installing visual basics dlls.. After some minutes my windows Explorer started showing error.. This file does not have a program association with it for performing this action. Please install a program or l, if one is already installed, create an association in the default program control panel.. . This error pop ups whenever i tries to open Explorer directly from Taskbar. ..
View 1 RepliesI think I downloaded a .reg file from internet that created double system folders in my computer but I can't remember. They seem to be an extra music, videos, documents, pictures and downloads folder but I cannot put any files in the folder. How to delete them? There's also a strange name in address bar when I open one of the folders. Also, when I click start and then click a folder liek videos folder then nothing happens.
View 2 RepliesI am after some software that will remove duplicate files. In this case, some program seems to have recreated duplicate folders with just a file called "desktop.ini" in it. I would like to be able to search for that and remove all the corresponding duplicate folders that contain just that filename.
