I hide the recycle bin from the desktop, now I can't show it (or any other desktop icon), so I was wondering, how to restore them or just finding the actual folder on the disk? Show Hidden Files is enabled, but where to look.

I want to know whether I can create a Windows 10 USB boot disk from a folder in my PC(NOT an ISO). The folder contains all the necessary setup files for the the installation that were created by the Windows 10 media creation tool.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to delete a folder on an external hard disk that was created on another computer. First it tells me that I need administrator permissions to modify it, which I grant. Then it tells me that I need permission from dougal obert to do so, dougal obert being my own user account on the machine I am using. I have given full control in the security settings both to administrators and myself, but nothing will enable me to delete this folder.
View 3 RepliesI have an SSD (This PC) for Windows, HDD (secondary disk) for files and whatnot. Running Windows 10 64-bit Home.
I saw that you could move apps to another disk through Apps & features in Settings, so I decided to try it out.
I moved an app to my secondary disk, and it cluttered up with like 3 folders (my personal folder, WindowsApps, wpsystem). Changed my mind on this, and moved the app back to my SSD.
I tried deleting the extra folders left over...only to find out that WindowsApps can't be deleted on my secondary disk.
So, basically:
WindowsApps is completely empty on my secondary disk. I tried taking ownership, tried Unlocker, tried the administrator account, tried changing security options. They were all denied access, what to do next.
Am I stuck with this empty WindowsApps folder on my secondary disk?
Above message received on trying to put a shortcut on desktop. My disk has many GB of space. Have run Malwarebytes on PC and no virus detected.
View 6 RepliesI have one or two Folders that I just cannot seem to get to appear on my Desktop. They show in the Files listing just fine, the way they should. Nothing that I can think of is anything special about them.
Also, in their Path, the last item is Desktop. If I create a shortcut, and put the shortcut on the Desktop, clicking on it works just fine. So, I imagine that they certainly should ?
I have read elsewhere that installing Windows 10 top of Windows 7 results in a windows.old folder, which does seem to exist on my computer.
Instead, I have, on the desktop, a folder, Windows 7, which seems to contain many of the files, etc., perhaps all such data, that were in Windows 7, such as all of the folders under Documents. I just looked at Documents in the Windows 7 folder, which even shows a file that I put into Documents in Windows 10 on 3August2015. In fact, looking at the folder,it looks just like what I see when I use the Windows 10 File Explorer from the icon on the task bar.
I just got a folder looking icon on my desktop and i cant delete it . A screenshot snap is on drop box link below.
It cant be archived or move to recycle bin or other folder, but can only be pin to Quick Access in explorer. Tried to delete from cmd prompt but not showing in folder list of hidden or system file.

My network is really simple. A win10 laptop and a win10 desktop. The desktop has a couple of hard drives and the laptop needs to see one of them.
At various times it's all been good but then something mysterious happens and we're back to square one.
So I've set up a homegroup and both computers belong to itI've set up sharing so that the homegroup can read/writeI've added my husbands email address as a user on the desktop and accepted the invitation so that it doesn't show as pending
Yet, when I go to the laptop I can see the homegroup and the two computers that are in itI can see the network and the same two computersIf I click on the drives I get a no-permission error
After upgrade to windows 10 (from 8) I notice that my "active" desktop folder is C:UsersTempDesktop I restart my computer and now my desktop is C: Users "myUser"Desktop.The problem is - that C:UsersTempDesktop folder with all of my sub-folders completely gone.What can I do? On Windows 10 I have an issue of the 'blank icon' being black on my desktop.
I just don't get it.. I have tried clearing my thumbnail cache, all the 'blank icon' options, made my own icon, and have been scouring the internet.
if I right click on my music icon in explorer I can change the location of its contents in the location tab which I was trying to do, as I have my Mp3s in a music folder on my D Drive.
whilst trying to do that I accidentally moved it to the desktop location of my use folder. So now both the Desktop and music icons in my explorer are both linked to the same location, (users/username/music) and the desktop link in my user folder has gone.
I have a folder that I keep on my C: drive that has my game shortcuts, whole games, and a few videos. I was going to move it to the desktop since I use it so much, but it took way too long so I just canceled the move. Now when I go to look at my C: drive to open the folder its gone and I cannot find it by searching windows..I upgraded to win 10 and if doing a restore will fix this I will just not a restore that wipes the pc... just a restore that takes it back in time. I was trying to find a restore option but it sounds like it will wipe my pc and I do not want that as I just wiped it weeks ago and dont need to again.

View 1 RepliesI made the mistake of moving the download folder to the desktop folder. Now it uses the same folder for both desktop and downloads. I see no way to separate them again. On the "This PC" screen, it shows "Desktop" for both the download and desktop icons. I tried the regedit fix, but it didn't work. How can I separate desktop and downloads, like it was originally?
View 1 RepliesMy 32GB Windows 10 Home PC (recently upgraded from 8.1) is low on disk space. I deleted Windows.old and I have hibernation disabled. Apart from a few browsers, very little else is installed, yet I only have 11.7GB left?
One reason may be the size of the Windows folder:
Size 14.7GB
Size on Disk 9.91GB
From my calculations, Windows appears to be using the higher figure in determining available disk space.
Why is 'Size' so much greater than 'Size on Disk', can I do anything about it? I have a similar 8.1 machine, it does not have this disparity (12.4GB and 12.3GB).
What would be a normal 'Size' for a Windows folder on Windows 10 Home PC very recently upgraded from 8.1 i.e. with few, if any Windows live updates run ?
Just installed 10240 or TH1 and I am still unable to specify a network location for the background pics. If this is a bug, I can't believe they haven't fixed it.
View 3 RepliesI have Windows 10 Home 10240 build upgraded from Windows 8.1 Core. I have a inconvenient problem, if i create a new folder on the desktop. Right-Click -> New -> Folder, seems that explorer.exe crashes. Everything disappears desktop icon, taskbar. After 1 or 2 seconds everything comes back to normal and folder is created.
View 1 RepliesOkay I just upgraded to Windows 10 this morning and I had all of my downloaded files from other websites all in the desktop under a folder called software after the upgrade it opened up Windows 10 and ran me through the tutorial, and had me reboot after I change some settings. when it rebooted it took about 20 minutes said something about some new features and "we want to show you new features" and others some other junk.
Finally when I did pull the explorer back up the only thing that was there was the recycle bin, my computer, and the downloads folder which was empty I went through every inch of my hard drive I even went over it with undelete Pro and still no traces of my files they were archive files and setup files for software. when I finally did find a trace of one of my old folders, the only thing that would it would tell me was that it was unavailable and that it must've been moved or deleted I took a picture of the error message and can't find answers anywhere..
About a week after Clean Installing Windows 10 from an upgraded version on my laptop, I noticed that i wasn't able to Create a New Folder anywhere, from Desktop to File Explorer Directories. Nothing! Even when i try clicking the "New Folder" Button in the Ribbon or pressing Ctrl+Shift+N it still won't work. In the Context Menu (Right Click), I can't find the "New" Button too. Is this normal for Windows 10 after being installed? Do i have to install something (maybe an update) for the "New" to appear in the Context Menu?

View 1 RepliesI just got my hands on a new UX305 from ASUS and it's working wonderfully. However, I wanted to change the icons for the Desktop, Downloads, Music, etc. folders in Quick access in File Explorer. I was able to do it on my main rig, but there is no customize tab for most of the folders in quick access, and those that do still don't allow me to change the icon.

In Folder Options View Tab I have Show hidden files, folders, and drives enabled. In Folder Options Search Tab I only have Include System directories checked.
In C:UsersUserNameAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsThemes I have many files whose name contains Arkham.
If I click on This PC in the Navigation Pane and then type Arkham in the search box, I get No items match your search. What do I need to change so that the search will find these files. Ultimately I would like search to find any file on This PC whether it be system, hidden, or read only. I don't need for search to look in compressed archives (just the archive name).
