I have this folder on my c drive named a and it uses 7GB so i would like to know if i can delete it.
I copied the (highly configured) start menu folder from an old computer to a new computer.
After using this folder to configure the new computer I want to delete it. Win10 won't let me.
I've recently been changing the target locations of some user folder (documents, pictures, videos, music) and seem to have messed something up during the process.
My 'Pictures' folder is now called 'Videos' and I can't rename it back to Pictures again. This is because its a user folder or 'shell' folder I've read. How to change it back?

Is this the digital management rights tool of microsoft. An App Named DRM was automatically installing from the store . App size is 6.4MB. Did Microsoft have the right to do this?
View 1 RepliesWhat is the MapData folder which has recently appeared on my D drive? (This is the drive containing all my user folders with the exception of Pictures.) It contains subfolders diskcache, mapscache and files overrides.json, updater.nma
View 2 RepliesI just upgraded from 7 to 10, and I kept my D drive disconnected until the upgrade was done. Previously the D drive had only what I expected, but now there's a folder called systemprofile which is blocked (although I can choose to see what's there), and there appears to be nothing there.
I ran a search and didn't see anything about this specific problem. I can see that there's supposed to be a systemprofile folder under c:Windowssystem32, but it's not there. And I can't find anything that tells me just what this is.
sometimes as I said when I want to create a folder in drive D there is a delay of 3 to 4 seconds why ??also sometimes also when I open a program my SSD there is a delay also why ??it is a clean install desktop DOES NOT freeze when these delays happen
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to move all of my documents to a new hard drive and I successfully did it with all of them except for the "Music" folder; each time I try to move it to a new location I get this error message:
View 4 RepliesA file named customrefresh.wim remains on my C: drive. 9 Gb big. I believe it is a leftover from windows 8.1. I suspect the folder was created by windows 8.1 in connection with creating a USB recovery drive for the 8.1 system. I should have erased it then, but forgot. Can I do it now?
View 5 RepliesWhy I do this is unimportant. In Win 7, when I move my daily backup files (2 weeks worth about 20gb) from my current BU folder to my save BU folder, the move took a couple of seconds (I think because only the file pointers were changed.) Under Win 10, it takes in excess of 2 hours (I think there is a physical move of file data.) This is my third try since installing Win 10 on my (admittedly slow) server. Will renaming the files work?
View 13 RepliesI seem to have a problem trying to save file to my default Docs, vid and Pics folder on my C drive. I have attached a pic of what it says.I have changed the permissions to let me do this or am I looking in the wrong place? If I save the files to the desktop however and then move to the relevant folder it works fine.
View 5 RepliesI am having some problems with Windows10 Pro. I have downloaed it from a website and upgraded from windows 7 ultimate.
PC is lagging. When I open a Images Folder/Drive It become very slow. It takes too much to open a file or folder.
And, Im unable to copy anything. It is showing obytes/s or sometimes only some bites like 27, 333, something.
i have this problem since a long time ago , and i can't seem to figure out how to fix it!
i am sick of this file, the option of "Open file location" is grayed out for it !
I'm stumped but before I upgrade to Windows 7. I have 1000's of photos stored on a separate hard drive system. In Win 7 I had set up auto play to save the photos to a folder on the external drive. In Win 10 I can't seem to do this, I've been to Settings/Devices - Auto Play, and in the end the only way round was to change the path of the system folder 'pictures' to the path on the drive. Photos now get imported to the right place but I'm not happy it being a system folder and the photos are imported into a folder named by the date. In Win 7 I could tag the photos on import and the folder & photos would be named with the tag and numbered sequentially. I need this functionality back.
View 3 RepliesI set the Storage option for Windows Store to start installing apps too my D:/ Because of that, it created a folder called WindowsApps. Now it's time that I want to delete that folder, and all access is denied.
I tried changing the permissions to my admin account and all, but I'm still not able to remove it.
Is there any way for me to remove this folder without having to reformat the drive?
I recently upgraded to Windows 10, Put OS onto SSD along with a few other essentials and have a second hard drive for storage. The shared Pictures, Videos, Documents (etc) folders were all by default on my relatively small SSD. how to move location of the folders (right click the relevant folder, select 'Properties', then select 'Location', then 'Move', browse to where you want it to go . . .)
Here's the thing, in the process of moving my 'Pictures' folder to what is currently labelled as my F: drive, I managed to browse to F - but not actually select a folder. My 'Pictures' location is now my F: drive , oops, I'm now feeling like a bit of a donkey! but hey ho, I'll just move 'Pictures' again - to a folder this time - with a name right? - NO, that wont work - I guess because it now thinks I want to move the entire contents of my F: drive maybe?
OK - well, there's an option to 'Restore Default' (within the Location tab) - I select that and it looks promising, the original target on my C: drive shows in the window but upon pressing 'Apply' it then asks:Do you want to move all of the files from the old location to the new location?
Old location: F:
New Location: C:UsersLaptopPictures
We recommend moving all of the files so that programs needing to access the folder's content can do so.And if I press yes, I get:The folder can't be moved hereAccess is denied.Basically the same issue again - The 'Folder' in this case is my F: drive that has other shared folders within it - so I guess that's why I can't do this? So, currently I have a drive as a location for my 'Pictures' not a convenient holding folder within that drive. The method for moving all the other folders has been fine (where I actually moved them to named folders on a different drive).
I recently installed Win10 on a C SSD and set a D hard drive for my data. I have assigned default save to be D. FYI, I do have a C:User[name]Documents, Pictures, etc. also.
However, I found that on my drive D, there is a D:[name]Documents, Pictures, etc. So I included the sub folders into the Library. However, the D:[user]Documents folder does exist but I cannot change the permissions at all (Read Only). It is owned by the System.
Don't I need to take ownership back to make use of it? But how? Or do I just leave it alone. Right now, all save documents are going to C:[user]Documents. Other D:[user] sub folders, i.e., Pictures and Videos, are writable.
Problem:I press Start / I type the filename of any files I know exist in my Google Drive folder (c:/users/Luke/Google Drive) nothing appears. It says "Windows is still indexing some files. This might not be everything just yet."
Thing is, if I go to Indexing Options, it clearly says "Indexing complete." and there's no HDD activity (and it's had ages to rebuild the index)... and I rebuilt the index (~500,000 files).
The best workaround I've found is switching off Indexing (which reveals files in Google Drive folder, but now searching the whole computer takes forever)
O/S-windows10 v1511 ... following the update to version 1511,I discovered .mui files and L10n files(.dlls) in my program folder. Can these files be deleted without causing problems or do they have to be transferred to the system32 folder ?
View 2 RepliesToday,my laptop was awfully slow. When I booted it up it would say "Scanning and repairing D: drive 100%" but this didn't work with anything. When I went to "This PC" to see my D and C drives, my C drive was perfectly fine and it was showing how much GB it has left (___ GB free of ___ GB) but for the D drive it didn't show how much GB it has left. When I try to open it, windows explorer folder would not respond. The green bar which shows your progress of loading the folder (I don't know how to explain) would keep going and even if it reaches the end, D drive wouldn't open. Most of my games were in my D drive and now my laptop is really slow. It takes like 1 minute for chrome to start up.

I booted from USB (WinPE/Paragon) and accessed command prompt from there. Deleting the folder: invalid folder name.I can rename the folder, but not move it.
As far as I can see I am the owner/administrator and having full control on the folder...?

My 'documents' folder suddenly got moved into another folder named 'Doctor Web.' Looking into this, I find that Doctor Web is a piece of security software originating in Russia, apparently quite respectable, but it's not something I ever installed. According to its properties, the Doctor Web folder was created in 2014, but it wasn't on my computer two days ago when a backup I ran had no errors. Today, it choked on the new folder. I'm attaching a screen grab to illustrate the situation.
My question is, is there some method by which I can move the 'documents' folder from the 'Doctor Web' folder. put it back where it belongs and delete the 'Doctor Web' folder? I have access to all my documents, but I am not at all happy with them being spontaneously moved like this. Al

View 2 RepliesI tried to take screenshots via the WinKey+PrtSc and the Fn+WinKey+PrtSc method. As expected, the screen briefly dimmed and then reestablished normal illumination as you would expect when taking a screenshot with previous Windows OS-es. (No functionality at all apparent via Ctrl+ WinKey+ PrtSc.) When I went to locate the screenshots in C:Users*****Pictures, there was no "Screenshots" folder. I tried searching for the folder and for the screenshots to no avail (though my search skills are rather novice, so I may have missed some obvious way to locate the missing folder). Screenshots will save to the clipboard through the two operable methods above and can be pasted to Paint. I tried visually searching numerous folders and hidden folders for the screenshots, to no avail.
So, I looked in the registry and found:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer
The ScreenshotIndex DWORD value is "3".In Win8, from what I have found trying to understand and solve this issue, you would also find an expandable string at this location: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerUserShellFolders.It required value data which pointed to the pictures folder (%USERPROFILE%PicturesScreenshots). There was no such expandable string value present in my User Shell Folders location. I never had this problem in Windows 8/8.1 and I realize things may be done very differently in Windows 10, so I didn't add the expandable string that the tutorial I was reading referenced in order to to fix this problem in Windows 8.
When I was running Windows 7, my system had a small solid state C drive that did not have enough space for windows 10 upgrade. I got a larger 2TB regular hard disk and used the manufacturer's software to clone the old Windows-7 SSD C drive to the new 2TB and then upgraded to Windows 10.
Now under windows 10, when go into defrag, the C Drive shows as a Solid State drive and of course windows does not want to optimize it.
The new drive definitely is not SSD. I assume somehow that setting was cloned from the old disk.
Is there either a way to change the C drive to a regular "hard disk drive" or force windows to defrag what it thinks is a SSD?
