View 3 RepliesAfter an update to Windows 10 I started getting "invalid register key" errors with every open. I restored a previous registry value prior to the last update and still go the error. Instructed to boot up in safe mode but as I logon using my microsoft account, safe mode does not open wifi connection and the password cannot be verified. At least I think that is what is happening as I reset my microsoft account password using another computer and it is still refusing the password on the windows 10 machine. Is there anyway around the password request and get the computer to boot up in regular mode?

View 2 RepliesAfter I had installed Windows 10, I restored some backup files I had from another computer using Windows 7. When I tried to access the files, I was told that none of my software could load the files. After doing some research on several of the Windows forums, I found out the account I had been using from the very beginning was not the "real" Administrator account. As such, I could not change any of the User Privileges. Research again indicated I needed to "activate" the EUC Administrator, which I did.
However, I was never asked for a Password when it was activated. Now, when I try to access the new Administrator account, I can't get past the Logon screen as I do not have a password. I have tried ALL the passwords I can remember from both the current Windows 7 and 10 User/Administrator accounts on this and the other computer, all to no avail. HOW do I either determine what the "default" password is or how do I change the "default" password without knowing what is in the system right now?
I need to either re-set the password for my administrator login, or, create a new administrator login. But, how can I do either without the ability to authorise it?

View 1 RepliesI've Dell latitude 3330 which is connected to school domain. Before i disconnected from school domain i created user name- Admin but forgot to set it in Administrator. I'm now in Standard User instead of Administrator. But some how Built-in Administrator account is enable but i don't know the password of Built-in Administrator account. Is that possible to reset Built-in Administrator password?
View 2 RepliesIt seems now that every time I run or delete an EXE file, the system makes me type in the password for the Administrator; especially as I typically do stuff in the dark, having to locate the keys for my password is a real pain. Now, I don't mind having that dialog box come up and making me simply click on the button (or hit Enter, etc.) In fact, if this is something that can prevent "drive-by" downloads or other nefarious stuff from happening, I want it (although I still mind typing in the password). In Windows 7, the system behaved in this latter way, and I'd like Windows 10 to behave in the same way.
View 3 RepliesI just upgraded my laptop from windows 7 to windows 10. Before I upgraded, my brother created an account for himself and windows 10 seems to think that his account was the main one. He didn't have administrator access, so now I'm locked out of everything that requires administrator access.
When I try to install new software, the security pop up happens, asking for an administrator password, but there is no field to enter a password.
I can't open the command prompt (windows -> cmd -> enter)
I can't switch accounts, logging out lists no other accounts.
How do I get administrator access back, and how can I make windows stop thinking I'm my brother?
After installing Windows 10, I changed my Administrator account password, losing my EFS-encryption on some system files.
I didn't read the fine print:
Now, I can't downgrade because it keeps giving me the error when trying to downgrade that I need to remove the Administrator (even though I de-activated it through net user Administrator /active:no).
Bought a new HP Desktop computer and made a mistake when setting up my Microsoft account with my email. Can't seem to get in to edit the "administrator's" password.
View 3 RepliesI recently set up a pin to log in to my computer so i didn't have to use a password. I forgot the pin and it locked out. it says "the pin has been blocked because to many incorrect pins have been entered". I want to reset it but there doesn't appear to be any way to reset this? (Windows 10 Desktop)?
View 5 RepliesOk so i am furious with Micro$oft now! the other day i was FORCED to change my microsoft account after much nagging i did so and i dont like changing logins too much. (this was a week ago)
now for some random reason on earth without my permission my windows login also changed login passwords to the microsoft account. I DONT WANT THAT! that password is too long and complicated for someone who locks his computer every 5 minutes or so. why did this just kick in now? i changed M$ account pass over a week ago and today it decides to change windows login?! can i change JUST my local windows login separate from microsoft login?
if i try to change pass from settings it it goes online and says you cant use password that has been used before.
after an update at starting, tablet laptop start gives picture/clock screen, that slides to the password screen but when password block is touched on screen or mouse clicked the screen flips back to the picture/clock ... how to deal with this kind of lock out that the typing box won't open and loops to clock screen? have turned off for an hour to see if that does it..but if not...would restarting into a repair or recovery be possible fix...i have never been able to get into safe mode without being logged in but have gotten into recovery during a restart which made me wonder if entering a recovery during boot and reversing the upgrade was possible if all else fails...

View 1 RepliesI needed to do something in Windows 10 and I needed to be in administrator. How to do that. Windows 7 was easy.
View 8 RepliesAs I have progressed through the various versions of Windows, I have somehow managed to acquire 5 administrator accounts (3 x Administrator, 1 x All Users and 1 x David which seems to be the latest). As I am the only user of the computer, is it possible to merge or reduce down to just the David account?
View 12 Replieshow do I get Win10 to recognize the fact that I am an administrator? I am listed as an administrator in Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > User Accounts.
The reason I ask is that somehow a program call "MPC Cleaner" has managed, uninvited, to get into my system, and all attempts to get rid of it are met with the usual "....administrator...." messages. I've tried all ways, straight forward deletion, entering the folder via command prompt (which renders "access denied" even after the "attrib -r" command), and even the Avast Shredder is unable to touch it. To misquote Henry VIII, "who will rid me of this turbulent pest?"
When I alter a document I received mesage to obtain administrator's aproval. How?
View 1 RepliesHow do I get rid of this popup on windows 10 Pro / 64 Bit... Once in a while I get a pop up when moving a file or folder asking for... administrator rights.... It's not that big a deal... When it shows up I Click on CONTINUE and the function is completed...
I'm running three drives and one of them has two partitions so that brings it up to four mapped drives... I'm always moving stuff around, downloading, adding plug-ins to my software and so on...
Below are the settings I have set to keep the prompt from popping up but as I said it shows up on occasion...
UAC is turned "OFF"
Windows Smart Screen is turned "OFF"
Security Options ... Accounts: Administrator account status "Enabled"
All the drives have full control "Enabled"
I have just installed windows 10 and I am listed as the administrator. However, if I try to save a newly written document in a folder that I have always previously used for that purpose, I get a message which says:- You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the Documents folder instead?
I have also noticed that many folders in my C: drive have a small icon attached (a tiny box with a blue top and right facing arrow head). If I try to access any of these folders I am refused permission with the message "access denied". For example, if I try to enter a folder shown as C:/users/all users/documents I get this message. There are dozens of places where this 'blue arrowhead' occurs.
I got this issue yesterday that some applications in my win 10 pc v10240 wont run until I run them as administrator. I thought I did something wrong because I was messing up with registry entries so I tried googling it but didn't find anything. Then today I decided to reinstall windows and after the clean install now the issue is happening again. I dont know what to do because the apps were working fine a few days ago but as from yesterday they wont even after the clean installation of windows. I have checked for viruses and such but nothing on my end.
View 3 RepliesI have the Administrator account on my computer. I am the only User, no other accounts have been made. So why is it from time to time I find I am blocked from doing something as I do not have permission? Who else but me fas permission? Examples include permission refused for accessing a particular file (not one requiring a password, which would be understandable) and particularly being refused to permission to save somewhere (nowhere 'special') so I have to save to a folder other than the one I had chosen, or selected by an app.
Also, as I am also always the Administrator, why do I have to opt in to what I am in the first place as with Cmd prompt? I used to get apps not launching because I was Administrator, and the only way out I discovered was to reset.
