I cant make a folder to full access. It remains as READ only always, when I try to unmark the square mark. Its like there in all of my files and folders. Do anything special to do to make them full access other than unmarking read only ?

Permission is for use of old os which doesn't already exist.
If I was able to copy whole folder from R/O media, I could easily change the permissions but I can't do that on R/O media and any attempt to copy the folder gives error msg Access was denied.

Win 10 now disfunctions (instable, search unavailable, chrome closing incorrectly, etc). How should I proceed to restore the folder settings without restoring windows completely?
View 1 RepliesOn Windows 7, everything was fine. Since I upgraded to Windows 10, I have a problem with c:usersftrdocuments (ftr is the user account name)
It is locked to read-only, and when I change it, it immediately changes back, despite me giving administrator privelege. This is messing with so many programs that expect to be able to write here, and the biggest is Adobe Premiere. It can no longer write to the folders it needs to in here and when it offers to switch scratch disks to My Documents, the program craps out - probably because it's running into the same error.
I thought at first this may have been because I changed to an Outlook account, so I switched the machine back to Local - but I still cannot take control of the folder.
I am a hardcore Wow player, recently i encountered a problem that wont let me play wow due to my folders not able to being write wow files on my windows 7.
The was a message when ever i tried to run wow and that was "[COLOR=#EFC9A0][FONT=Arial]The CAS system was unable to initialize: Client Handler: initialization error: failed to create storage component"
At first i thought it was wow's problem and looked on battle.net forums but they all said that i must remove read only tag from properties of my wow folder.
I did everything i could on wow's side but nothing, then i tried looking on various windows's error forums and did the take ownership cerficate guide, the attrib -r [path] guide, changing security parameters from properties --> security ---> edit etc.
But nothing worked, as soon as i unchecked the solid square read only option and closed it , it came back like before. So I thought maybe windows 7 wont let me play the game, i bought windows 10 and installed it clean and removed windows 7 completely. and with no surprise the same problem persists. cant remove read only.
Then I read about NTFS being the problem, i have 2 sata harddisks and i formatted one and converted it to FAT system and copied wow folder to that drive. still it wont do anything same problem is there.
I play video games and all my games are saved in my documents as many other steam users but the games cannot load any save data from countless games like skyrim, Arma 3 etc. As soon as I remove the read only attribute from the document folder and apply the settings it does the whole apply to all the sub folders and files crap but as soon as its done I click okay and right after i check the properties again and voila there it is read only is checked and i cannot do jack about it.
View 6 RepliesThe documents folder and its subfolders are "read only" which prevents me from storing files in them. I am the administrator and can not remove the "read only attribute." How can I accompiish that? I went to properties for the documents folder and the system appeared to be doing what I wanted, but was not successful.

I get same error when trying to delete file. It appears all folders in my music folder have same issue.
I have tried to update SECURITY tab within properties - it states EVERYONE has access & has FULL CONTROL.
Any way to allow folder access through the start menu in Windows 10? By folder access, I mean like in Windows 7 you could open the start menu, then start typing C: and it would display the contents of the folder, or just type the folder path and hit enter to open it. I can't seem to do that now, and I'm not sure if I'm doing it incorrectly, it needs to be configured, or just isn't there.
View 9 RepliesI can't seem to find a way to access my start menu folder in windows 10. I would like to remove some of the folders and programs from the "All Apps" list but I can't seem to find a way to do it. It is filling up with uninstall files inside of folders for programs that have been uninstalled along with some programs I would prefer not be shown. (Nothing bad, just nothing I would ever need to click on nor need to see). I also need to modify which programs start with windows. This was so much easier in windows 7, and I skipped windows 8 so I am not sure what to do.
View 1 RepliesI already googled it and every tutorial is the same. When I go to do it, it doesn't work. I don't have a Microsoft account. I specified a local account user name. This is what I'm selecting as owner. The computer is not transferring access to the user im selecting.
I want to gain access to this folder, because this folder is on my friggin data drive!?!? I have a 1Tb drive partitioned into 3. The OS is installed on one partition, I install all my programs on the second partition, and I save all my crap on the 3rd partition. Well, I found the windows apps folder on my data partition and I want it out of here. I want it to go back to where ever it came from. I think when I was messing around with all the windows settings, under storage I specified that everything is saved to my data drive, even apps. I dont use apps. I dont want this folder on my data drive.
I followed this guide to gain access for WindowsApps folder, and it worked.Now, I changed default drive for WindowsApps, to install Gears of War and Quantum Break(in future) in a larger drive. But the method to gain access to the WindowsApps folder, seem to not work if the drive isn't C, the default one.

Today, while on Google Chrome (my preferred browser) I tried to download an image into my folder (as I am the only user) and it says "You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the Administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the picture folder instead?" Then when I answer yes, the same box comes up again telling me access is denied.
I had to save it under my Documents folder instead. I had access to all my folders prior to the install. I went under the picture folder/library properties and gave my username permission (the only one without permission) and that didn't work.
I just bought a 500gb samsung 850 evo, transferred C, and am trying to use the old 1tb WD for mass storage.
I decided I'd put my videos and pictures there, so I changed the locations to inside folders in E... now instead of saying "Videos" and "Pictures" it says E: and E:, and when you click them it just takes you to directly to the drive, not inside the folder.
Now when I go to change it back to default location I get "The folder can't be moved here, access denied"
how to fix it.
When I download a pdf file (A billing statement in this case), I would like to select "Save As" and be able to select the folder directly from one of the folders shown in Quick Access that is shown in File Explorer without having to rummage through all the folders on my three drives. Right now, "Save As" causes the folder selection to start with My PC. Is there an easy way for the list of folders in Quick Access to be displayed when I select "Save As" to save the file? Starting in My PC makes me go through the mess of finding the folder in which I want to save the file.

View 9 RepliesI have a strange issue on my Windows 10 computer: I can only see 1 computer under my home network, but other computers do not appear at all. However, I can access them fine typing in the address bar manually.
Also, for some reason, "LEESERVERPC" does not appear on my network folder, but it appears on the left pane. Is this a Windows 10 issue? Other computers are running Windows Server 2012R2 or Windows 7 and they easily find all computers in the network. I rebooted and resetted my router countless number of times. Refreshing doesn't seem to do anything.
Background: Originally, my Windows 10 computer was seeing all the computers in the network. As I was trying to set up another computer on the network, I refresh my network several times from my Windows 10 computer, and all a sudden all the computers except 1 disappeared on my Windows Explorer "Network". Every other computer in the network has no issues.

I want to emphasize that I CAN ACCESS the shared network computers. It's just that Windows Explorer's "Network" does not show most of the computers!
the windows fax and scan utility can't start up because it can't access the documents folder, where it saves the scans.
Then I tried the windows 10 scan app. It saves by default to the pictures folder. It, too, could not save to the default location. but I discovered that I can set it to save to desktop, and that works. But it forgets my choice as soon as I close the app.
I am the owner of these folders. Why can't my apps access them? I checked documents properties, and I have full permissions.

When trying to access the WindowsTemp folder, I receive the prompt informing me that, "You don't currently have permission to access this folder."
I click the continue button and receive the error message, "You have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab."
I do just that.
Properties --> Security --> Advanced --> Continue
Creator Owner, Administrators and System all have Full Control. Users has 'special.' So I adjust Users to have Full control.
I receive the error: "An error occurred while applying security information to: C:WindowsTemp. Failure to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied."
I click continue and get this error, "Unable to save permission changes on Temp. Access is denied."
I can't link a shortcut of my user folder to Quick Access. It only links the direct folder which has a silly name (created by the first five letters of my email address), and it's just so stupid to look at. I want Quick Access to refer to the shortcut as the 'User' directory, but this seems impossible to do without renaming the direct folder, which is not recommended at all.

Is there way I could link/sync it with my Microsoft account so when I open onedrive on my laptop (file explorer) so it displays what I have on the "online onedrive"?
I hardly see the point of the onedrive on the PC if it cannot show what's already stored on onedrive (I have a bunch of stuff from my windows phone saved on onedrive)...
I can move this folder by myself and i'm not trying to move this folder to another partition or drive. This folder can be moved with "Move" command if i move it by myself first. Also, other folders that are in the same folder as problematic one can be moved without any problems. Move command from command prompt.
View 1 RepliesSo I bit the bullet and "upgraded" my laptop from Windows 7 to 10. I expected to find a few things that didn't work anymore, but not so soon as this. I keep it in sync with my desktop PC (running XP) by net-sharing its hard drive, with permission for full control granted to its "administrators" group. I mount it on my desktop PC, where I have the same username and password for my primary administrator account. When it ran Windows 7 this all worked well, but now whenever I try to list or open its files I get "Access is denied."
Interestingly, I still can access the hard drive on my desktop PC while sitting at my laptop. It is only the vice-versa that fails, accessing the hard drive on my laptop PC while sitting at my desktop.
On my laptop, Windows Firewall is "off" for private networks, and it considers my home network to be "private."
I changed the location the of my Pictures folder from the default C:usersmynamePictures to D:onedrivepictures, Worked great until I decided to use new Google Photo on Google Drive. Using File Explorer, I moved all photos from D:one drivepictures to E:Google DriveGoogle Photos. Then went to library/Pictures/properties/location/move and selected my new folder E:Google DriveGoogle Photos, hit apply, responded no to 'do you want to move all the files' and got pop up 'Folder cant be moved here - Access Denied.
I've tried restore to original, created other test folders on drive D and E - it wont save to any other location or restore to default location - get the Access denied.
