Guest Account Desktop Pulsates After Its Been Enabled
Aug 6, 2015
After I activate my guest account with "net user guest /activate:yes" at the dos command prompt, the guest desktop pulsates several time a second between the desktop and then back to a black screen. It is as if the desktop continually attempts to get initialized but continually fails to do so. I get a few dozen system errors that look like this: The Appx operation 'RegisterPackageAsync' on 'Windows. PurchaseDialog_ 6.2.0.0_neutral_neutral_ cw5n1h2 txyewy' failed for user 'Guest' - (Error: Pa ckage could not be registered.)
The Appx operation 'RegisterPackageAsync' on 'Windows.PurchaseDialog_6.2.0.0_neutral_neutral_cw5n1h2txyewy' failed for user 'Guest' - . (Error: Package could not be registered.)The guest account is not useable at this pointÂ
I have previously used win7. Had an administrator and a guest account. Two dri es were not accessible from the guest account. I set that. Now i installed a fresh copy of win 10 pro, and now i cant access those drives from the only account i created in win 10. How can i solve it?
I have successfully activated the hidden guest account by using the net user /guest:active command from an elevated command prompt. However, the account does not appear at the bottom left of my login screen along with the other accounts on my system, so I am unable to use the guest account.
I want to create a local account without or with a simple password. However, that doesn't seem to be available on Windows 10. Am I wrong in this or is there really no way to create just a local guest account?
Normally I use my sister's computer and sign in as a guest. I had a ton of pictures there that I backed up frequently on an external drive, but the last 1000 or so hadn't been backed up.
The thing is, today I come to the computer to find it's now Windows 10 and there is no guest account. The other accounts kept all their files like nothing happened but mine are all gone like they never existed.
I decided to give new Windows 10 (it picked Home Edition by itself) a try. Previous version was Windows 7. After a flawless install I have seen that something on my C: partition is using a lot of disk space. It was Windows.old file which I have successfully deleted by using Disk Cleanup. But last night I see Windows.old has reappeared back, which is quite a surprise, so I wanted to delete it again.
But now UAC blocks my every effort because User Account "doesn't have Administrator permission". The Yes button in the UAC is greyed out, I can only click No which leaves me where I was. The Account is reduced to what appears to be Guest. Naturally, I ended up more or less completely cut off from making any serious alteration to anything. I can't delete folders of importance, change account status (back to Admin), nothing.I can only use the computer.Another issue is that my otherwise empty D: partition has 3 files (one of them is named "WindowsImageBackup"), they together take more than 100G of hard disk space. As a Guest it's impossible to open or access them to see what's in them, let alone delete them.
I know that Win 10 is supposed to delete Windows.old by itself after 30 days (I hope "WindowsImageBackup" too), but is there any way for me to solve the issue of account status - to return to Admin - and do it by myself alone as soon as possible? It all seems like some bug or something, it's quite frustrating and I tried to do a Repair Install, but as a Guest you're pretty much stuck.
I have a windows 8 computer plugged in my tv and it has a microsoft account.I try to connect remotely from a windows 10 machine. I cant seem to enter the right user name. I have set up the tv computer to allow remote desktop and it works great with the local user i created, but with it doesn't work with the microsoft account. The name of the pc plugged into the tv is called TV.I also added the user into the remote settings.
Weird is that it works with the local account. How to do this with a microsoft account?
Is it possible to create guest user account with temporarily user directory? Iv noticed, that there is a bug, that creates in registry HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList key with .bak extension. Iv tried to manipulate with - create new key with the same user key and with .bak extension, after first login it works, but after next log in new created key in registry with .bak extension disappear and the account is not temporarily anymore. Is there other way to create temporarily account?
I had files saved in the 'guest' profile on the old OS, and since Windows 10, the guest account seems to have dissappeared? There are photos saved on the old guest profile that I would like to access.
Surely, Windows would have asked about deleting files?
My network connection user name shows "Secured". Right below is the same name followed by "- guest" and "Open". Is this a potential problem? Does this allow someone else access to my network connection? If so, how do I delete it?
The disk drive is physically working and connected properly to the motherboard. I can open it, put in a disk, see the light flashing and hear it humming. But cds/dvds do not run despite autoplay being enabled. There is no icon for the drive in explorer, but it does appear in device manager as SlimType DVD A DS8A5SH (double listing).
Worked when I had Winblows 7 : Sometimes works edition.
I know its a rule of thumb to leave it disabled if running an SSD, but I'm confused since I have both an SSD [ C: ] ( which serves as my boot drive ) and an HDD [ D: ] where I store the rest of my files.
Since there is no option to disable it only for one drive ( Which if there was i would disable it only for the SSD ) Should I just disable it altogether? or would that be a bad idea. Or is there any way I can disable it only for the SSD [ C: ]
I have Windows 10 Home installed and activated (as Windows to Go) on an external Samsung T1 SSD. I enabled hibernation per the instructions here: Hibernate - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums. However, every time I attempt to hibernate, the screen goes black but the PC never powers off and Windows never successfully hibernates. (Hibernation works perfectly on the Windows 7 installation on the internal SSD.)

Windows 10 OneDrive seems to only want to operate as your primary file storage repository with your PC being a potential backup for OneDrive. I do not want to use it in that manner. How do I use OneDrive to simply copy selected files and folders from my PC to OneDrive without any Syncing enabled? If I deselect 'Sync files and folders' in OneDrive settings, it seems to disable the OneDrive link in File Explorer. Ideally I would like to have a backup setup to sync OneDrive with my PC so that OneDrive mirrors my PC...not the other way around. how to copy files from PC to OneDrive using File Explorer.
i had secure boot up and running on my windows 8.1 machine after a clean install, but now since Microsoft upgraded me to windows 10 it seems as my secure boot is off again, but it's enabled in my bios is so weird, it's enabled in bios but off in windows 10? Is not much of a big deal to me in a since but just wondering why it still shows as on in bios but off in windows 10.
I can not access the "open with" menu..it's dimmed or not enabled in all the files.. Even though i can open the files with any application if i tried the menu at the top in the ribbon.
I have tried removing it from the registry and add it back again but that didn't fix it...
We bought a new laptop with Windows 10 for my daughter and flash player will not work. It is enabled and says it is installed but will not work on any site. A real problem as pretty much all the sites my daughter wants to use needs flash player! I know this is not an isolated problem to us as I've seen other posts elsewhere - but no resolution as yet.
Since installing Windows 10 I've had a problem with System Restore. As you can see from the attached graphic, I can access the System Restore panel but System Restore for the Windows drive is turned off (orange box) and the means of restoring to an earlier restore point as well as Create are greyed out.
The ONLY thing the window allows me to do is to go to the Configure panel. When I get there I find that System Protection is disabled and I cannot turn it on. However, my system IS using some space (blue box) although I have a sneaky suspicion that has not changed since I installed W10.
My question therefore is really: how do I enable System Restore?
After writing the above I did a search in the registry for System Restore but there were only about six or seven references. I also had a quick look at Services and noticed that VSS was stopped. Following a search which revealed that System Restore might depend on it I started it. I then signed out and then back in again but I still can't get System Restore enabled.
I have a back up of files & folders that I come from my previous Windows 7 system (same machine - I upgraded to W10) that I am not ableto restore and I really need them. My system is the following:
HP Pavilion DV7-6b32US laptop/notebook 64 bit 16GB RAM 2 internal HD (1 is the original 500GB and the other is a 1TBdrive divided into two equal partitions in the NTFS format
The back up was done using Windows 7 built in feature/utility and I am trying to restore the folders with their files to my Win 10 but I keep getting the error "short names are not enabled on this volume" with the code 0x80070131. I have done my research which pointed me to answers pointing to this: "to manually enable 8.3naming after formatting you can use fsutil.exe from the command line: fsutil 8dot3name set d: 0 (d: is the drive partition on my 1TB NTFS driveI use for my data where I am trying to restore the files to. The only thing I haven't done is the formatting for two reasons, 1 - it is already formatted and 2 - I have a TON of data already on the drive that I cannot lose.
Have been getting incorrect security notifications (Webroot & Defender not enabled) several times daily on two different Win10/64 PCs. How to suppress these annoying items?
At the first after I upgraded my notebook from windows 8 to windows 10, I just realize that 1 of my 3 user account is not exist anymore (the Guest account is not there just after I upgrade it into windows 10). As I tried to make the new Guest account and still didnt work (I dont want to follow such a complex email registration required by windows 10 to make a new user account), I thought to delete my secondary user account. However, I just realize that there is a file that I saved in the Desktop under my secondary user account. Is there a way to restore this desktop file that is saved in my deleted user account?
I have opened C:Users but I cant find the folder with the name of my deleted user account. It's very important yet big file (around 2 GB).
