I was going through some of the settings on my new laptop and I was clicking through Google Chrome.
Under settings, Advanced Settings, System.........
It has two boxes.
Continue running background apps
and
Use hardware acceleration.
What is the benefit of running background apps if I am not using them........I guess it would be easier to start them if they were running in the background but I wonder what others do ?
I explored hardware acceleration online and the two sites I found suggested unclicking it and not using it. I don't have a problem with storage capacity or anything technical. I just use it for surfing the net and email.
I have a 2015 HP laptop with 4GB Ram and 500 GB HD with W10.
I seem to get these green pixels whenever I watch youtube videos (using firefox). Did some searches and a lot of people says to disable hardware acceleration, not sure if this is the case but figured I try it. Most tutorial on how to do this is either windows 7 or 8 and I can't seem to find how to do this for windows 10.
I saw some guides about adjusting Hardware Acceleration on Windows 7 & 8, where you could find a slider bar after going into the Troubleshooting tab under Advanced Screen Resolution settings.
When I access these advanced settings on Windows 10, there's no troubleshooting tab or Hardware Acceleration slider. Where is it?
I have noticed a couple times while using my laptop that my ram and memory usage goes up while doing nothing. I go and check processes and find that store, calc, movies & tv, calendar and mail are all running even though I haven't opened them up. Are they updating in the background? I usually will just end them, but if there is a reason they are running than I'll just let them be.
the background for the windows 10 photo app is black, and that is bad for transparent png and gif files. i normally wont use it but the desktop photo viewer is giving trouble is there a way i can change the background color to white?
Does mail run in the background? - Windows 10 default Mail app only run in background if the Calender app has been merged with it. I've merged the calender app and also set up my mail app, the the problem is that I don't receive any notification, when I receive new mails. So, I dig deep and find out that "Mail" app is not showing in the "Background Apps" list.
I've also tried to enable every kind of notification from Mail app, so that I receive the notification when new mail arrives. This is really important to me. Otherwise I miss my important emails. My Mail apps keep running on background and I get the notification for my new emails,
My windows 10 Alienware laptop randomly blue screened and its not to shocking seeing, as all our windows 10 computers seem to bluescreen like its going out of style. but I googled the error tag and proceeded to fix it. The error was a Nvidia driver outdated and I then updated.
But I realized my background changed and to my horror was the same background as my primary PC (desktop gaming rig) There are a few ways the laptop and the desktop are connected Steam Geforce etc/Im a little concerned because I'm almost positive I have never once downloaded the same wallpaper on this laptop. and why it would steal my desktops wallpaper and replace it after BSOD I dont understand.
the BSOD was "System Thread Exception Not Handled".Here is the first set of my dxdiag.txt right after the bluescreen. too much text for an upload site

Time of this report: 1/7/2016, 17:33:09 Machine name: CLOAK-PC Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 10586) (10586.th2_release.151121-2308) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
Upgraded to Windows 10 Full version from Windows 8.1 two days back. My battery drains in short span of time. I disabled the background apps. Still battery life is poor.
Can I add a personal photo from my "Photo File" to the background in Windows 10? I tried downloading a security program (Norton 360) recently and it crashed my computer (Toshiba Satellite) leaving me with a black screen. I had to send the computer back to the company.
I have a background slideshow in operation, inherited from Windows 7 when I changed to Windows 10. I know how to personalise the background, but the slideshow does not work when I select a folder other than the one I inherited, even when there are suitable background pictures in the folder. Obviously, I could just put pictures for my background into the one folder which does work, but I would like to be able to select any picture folder, as should work.
I recently upgraded my windows 7 ultimate copy to Win 10 pro (64 bit) and with the upgrade i lost the most beloved tweak that i was using earlier in Win 7. And that is the ability to have custom backgrounds on folders instead of plain white ones.
The Ave Folder actually works but only when the properties boxwindows is opens up for any folder. The properties box has the custom new tab called "folder background" and i think this is why it activates the feature for a brief time until i decide to close the box. Closing the properties windowox then disables it and i then lose my folder background.
I have recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my main work PC and for the desktop background I have a slideshow and I have the taskbar showing. I have an HTPC in the lounge which is running on Windows 8.1 (not upgrading due to losing WMC ) and for this PC I have a single background for the desktop and the taskbar set to auto-hide.
When I change the settings on one PC it automatically changes the settings on the other PC - the background changes and the taskbar changes to/from auto-hide etc... Not sure if anything else is changing as well!
The two PC's are not in a homegroup and are not on a network - they're connected to the same router (BT Home Hub), but don't show up in each others network within Windows.
As I've been writing, the only thing that comes to mind that is "connecting" the two PC's is the fact that I am logged in to each PC using the same Microsoft account. However, the pictures I am using on each computer are not on my OneDrive, so how is it changing things and more importantly how can I stop it from happening, short of signing in with different accounts - which I wouldn't have thought I would have to do?
I was recently having some problems with widows 10 so I had the bright idea to Rest my PC using the options in the settings. I then chose to "Keep my files" as I have documents that I would like not to be deleted. So I let this run and nothing out of the ordinary occurred and everything seemed to be going well. Eventually the OS boots up and I get just the the windows 10 background (the one with 4 blue windows tiles). I see this and nothing else. No windows button, no desktop apps, and my keyboard does nothing, ie no ctrl+alt+del does anything. All I have displayed is my internet connection and the ease of access button. I do have a cursor though, but it is useless as right clicking or left clicking does nothing.
Do windows OS allow downloading in background videos, files apps etc. in browser like UC etc. Do downloading gets going still if you move out of the app or close the app.
Like if you're downloading 1 Gig of movie on UC browser on android and still you move out of the app and minimize it the movie continues to download or even if you close the app the movie continues to download. Does Windows phone allow this?
When I lock my new Windows 10 home edition 64bit laptop it remains on the Sky/red plane wing, I don't even have the 'love/hate this photo' option, So far I have set Bing as default search engine, cleared out the folder where the spotlight photos are stored, changed the setting to picture then back to spotlight.
I have several computers and want different desktop background pictures for each. Never been a problem until I upgraded one computer to Windows 10. Now, Windows keeps changing the wallpaper so all my computers have the same desktop background picture.
How can I disable cortona or uninstall it it is sucking a lot of memory when i look in the task manager processes I don't even use this I thought I disabled it but it still seems to be running.
Is there a way I can get it so my Windows background doesn't change every day or other time? I can only select 1 day for each time the slide changes at the very most. What I want is so when I right click and click "Next Desktop Background" (or whatever) it then and only then changes.
once i changed my background. you have five photos to choose from. i tried my own captures as background. but when i went back to personalize, i couldn't find the photos which where originally there when i upgraded to windows 10!
I just installed Win10 and had everything set up like I wanted. I rebooted and now I have a black desktop. I can see my icons and the taskbar changes colors to the theme I picked. The lock/log screen shows the pic I chose. I have tried everything and I can't get my theme to show on my desktop.
Again today, when cleaning cookies and trying to find where the pop-ups came from I traced it to IE.. Well I do not use IE nor do I use Edge which is constantly running. I still love Firefox and Chrome.
I went to Microsoft and there is info on there saying to uninstall it. Did that and still. I am very agravated only because it was hacked somhow, I did manage to remove the culprit but I hate the fact that I do not do anything to get into trouble and IE seems to.
