Over the weekend, I carried out the free upgrade to Windows 10, followed by a clean install. This was on a laptop with the manufacturers OEM licence, and it all worked fine, with Windows 10 being activated correctly after the clean install.
I plan on carrying this out on one of my PCs (which has a Technet licence), but also want to change the Hard drive for a SSD after the initial upgrade but before the clean install. All other hardware will remain the same.I have heard that the licence is tied to the motherboard, but my concern is that due to the hardware change, will Windows 10 automatically activate after the clean install ?
I have a Toshiba Satellite (P755-S5215) and the resolution is "squeezed" ... from top to bottom. In addition, I cannot change the resolution. I currently have a "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" showing in Device Manager.
Should I get the latest Intel Display driver from the Toshiba Support site? ... which is from 2013 and just over 300 mb (why so large)?
I have a 64-bit desktop PC with 8GB RAM installed on it. I had installed 32-bit Windows 7 Home on it (when I purchased the O/S DVD, years ago, I only had a 32-bit machine). Yesterday, I upgraded it to Windows 10.
"This PC >> Property" shows :
-- Installed Memory (RAM): 8 GB (usable 3.4 GB) (less than half) -- System type: 32-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
Thus, my installed memory remains underutilized. This situation can be rectified by changing the Operating System from 32-bit to 64-bit, I guess. But, the question that I face here is "How do I do that"?
I recently upgraded to W10 and now when I try to change a form in Access 2010 DB It errors and has to close. The error is : Faulting module path: C:PROGRA~2COMMON~1MICROS~1VBAVBA7VBE7.DLL. If I undo the change then all is fine. There was a problem I found on Google with same error but due to SP1 for office. I
Have a Lenovo H420 desktop that was upgraded about 2 months ago. We backed up everything and want to reinstall Windows 7.
But I can find no way to get into the Setup screen. I've gone to Settings, Update & Security, Advanced Startup and Restart Now. But I have no option to Use a Device. If I choose Troubleshoot then Advanced Options, the subsequent screen has no option for UEFI Firmware Settings.
I've disabled Fast Boot through Power Options in the Control Panel, then tried F2 and the Delete key when starting. Nothing...
The fact that I can't do something that was so easy in Windows 7 is enough reason in itself to remove 10. Throw in the fact that the scanner part of my printer no longer works is just icing on the cake. I have the Windows 7 disk. I just can't figure out how to use it.
I'm on build 10130, can't find RTM build through WU. Can't update from media creation tool's upgrade now function. Can't update from ISO because it says product key is invalid even though i used the command prompt to find original product key.
64bit setups but not new to building windows-32 systems. Built a system and here is what I am stumped with. Never owned a 64bit version of windows until I downloaded it from amazon just a week ago. But in order to download it I initially setup my system using the only other OS I own which is vista32bit from which I was able to do a win10-32 install no problem (which is how I am posting this now.). At the beginning of my attempt to do a fresh install of the 64bit version message says OS missing replace disks with OS disks or something like that. I do remember reading somewhere bios settings are very particular and have to be set but i cant find that again. I can give more details in next reply.
I had a full licence (not OEM) of Window 7 Home premium. And I have upgraded to Window 10. Now I have put in more RAM to from 4 to 16 Gb. How do I reinstall a 64 bit Window 10?
With Windows 7 it was possible to change the fonts used by Windows for title bar, menus, popups, etc...This way I could get rid of "anti-aliased" fonts such as Segoe UI that are blurry and use "aliased" fonts such as Tahoma that are sharper and much more readable for me.
That and disabling ClearType give me the right fonts display configuration. But I cannot find this fonts configuration dialog in Windows 10. Where can I find this dialog for Windows 10.
When I look to the properties of the stick I see as name 'TDK16GB' (that's the name I want). In explorer though I see the stick as 'Fix it portable (F: )'. Even if I change the name by right-clicking - change name, explorer always shows 'Fix it portable' as the name.
I have an old HDD with windows 10 and a brand new SSD with windows 10, and I was wondering, how do I change the default desktop from the HDD to the SSD? I have tried looking in the settings but I have found nothing useful. I want to use the main desktop using my SSD's desktop not my HDD's desktop.
how to fix my UAC Password Issues.I reset Windows 10 due to multiple issues and it ask me to add a windows account and password, so I did (big mistake). Now every time I bootup my computer I have to enter a password, and I don't like that. So, I got to UAC and uncheck the box showing password thinking all will be fine. NO, now I cannot change anything, or password. Even when I get a screen to enter an administrator password there's nowhere to type the password, weird? This is over my head and I'm in need of some real expertise.
I have an old VAIO Laptop-VPCEC4S0E, and I really wanna boost it. So it came with window 7 and I updated to window 10 on my hdd. Now the things I wanna do are as follows. The laptop is very slow, and there is nothing at all on it that i need. I need to destroy whatever is on it, and get it back to factory settings. Will that return it to window 7? I dnt know. On the other hand, I want to remove my hdd and replace it with an ssd.
Plus i wanna remove my old memories and put newer ones (6gb into 8gb).Should I start with restoring to factory settings (again not sure if it will be back to win7), then install window 10 on hdd, then clone it to the ssd, then swap the hdd with the ssd? is that the right order of doing these things. And I will fit the memory change with the hdd-ssd swap.In I wanna make my old laptop like a new purchased laptop with an SSD, new memory and a Window 10 on it.
I downloaded new Windows 10 and maked new update + downloaded new AMD driver and now I cant add brightness. It happened after i tryed to launch AMD catalyst. Screen was black for 2 seconds and after that I could not add brightness....
Trying to add a new DNS IP address. Go to the adapter, go to the IPV4 properties and advanced and add the new DNS IP address. Every thing is fine until I close the adaptor window and it pops up an error "an unexpected condition occurred, not all of your requested changes in settings could be made"... Even if I make no changes at all and just open and close it I get this. Need to set the new DNS as first on the list.
I change the name of one folder, from this moment I can't open the folder. I reciver the announcement with the path and that "the folder is not accessible. Access is denided."If i clik right click > properties, I see 0 bytes inside, but I know that there are a lot of files inside. In the security tab there is " You must have read permission to view the properties. Click Advanced to continue" but when I click Advanced, there is no possibility to change anything..No matter what i click, the message appears again..I tryed to take ownership but nothing..
I have encountered many problems to come as I learn Win 10. The first of which is how can I change or edit the administrator's name on my PC. I thought like win-7, I could edit, change, or even turn off password protect.
I find no way to do this, as I'am the only one using my PC, I do not need to sign in with a password every time I fire my PC up. Normally I resort to system restore for most problems, however I don't think that would work in this case.
So my laptop was purchased in China which came with authentic windows 8.1. I recently upgraded to windows 10 through official pop up notification. However after trying all means I couldn't alter the display language. In the settings-region and language-language-add a language/I am able to add any language in here but when I click options in one of the added language, there's no option of "download language pack" as many tutorials on internet.I have tried under English (United Kingdom) "set language as primary" but after restart, nothing's changed . Still display Chinese.
In control panel-add a language-options-windows display language/Again there's no option of setting a new language as display language, it says under windows display language "not available in this version of Windows" (something like this, I did the translation).I can add or change input keyboard without problem. The version of windows currently in my laptop is "Windows 10 Home Chinese Version" (something like this, again I did the translation). Is this the reason I can't change display language?
So on my dell xps 13 that I just put windows 10 on, I'm looking for a way to have the icons rescale to the correct size when changing displays without signing out? For example, I'll have it plugged into my monitor, then unplug the laptop to use it, and when the laptop screen turn's back on everything on the desktop is supper small. A sign out and in fixes this, but that's less then ideal.
