Headphones Mic Not Working
Aug 2, 2015
I'm using a Turtlebeach x12 headset and have had no problems with it for a few years now. When I upgraded to Windows 10 the audio on the headset was coming through fine but the mic wasn't working anywhere. Before you ask, I have the jacks plugged in the correct areas and the main thing is that they have worked before.
I decided to go into Realtek audio settings to try and make sure the connections tasking was correct and as far as I know they were. When the pink jack is plugged in I check 'Mic in' and when the green jack is plugged I check 'Headphones'. However the mic still doesn't transmit anything while the audio does work.
After that I uninstalled Realtek and upon restart new drivers for my headset were installed and the mic worked perfectly. However, upon powering on my computer again Realtek was re-installed and thus my mic was not working anymore, and now whenever I uninstall Realtek it reinstalls again. Now I don't know what to do as the mic simply doesn't work at all with Realtek.

Last night I plugged in headphones to the small round jack (not the USB) and sound worked fine as Iistened to a program. When I unplugged the headphones, I cannot get any sound to come out of the computer. I've tried restarting, muting/un-muting, and I've looked at all audio settings I can find. I cannot locate headphones settings - they don't show up anywhere. I recently installed the Windows 10 update a couple of weeks ago and this is the first time I've used headphones in this jack. Wondering if I need updated drivers but can't locate and system says drivers are fine.

Today, I reset my computer after struggling to get Kaspersky Internet Security reinstalled. After the reset, I was able to get it installed, but I have run into another issue (surprise, surprise). Sound does not output through headphones as it should.
The drivers are up to date (IDT High Definition Audio Codec and AMD High Definition Audio Device) as they should be. Windows even detects that my headphones are connected, but sound does not go through them unless I use the sound control panel to test the audio. Look at the screenshots for further details. It lists my headphones as the default communication device, and where it lists the speakers/HP option, it lists that as the default device. I cannot list the communication headphones as the default device, only default communication device.
Audio works through the speakers. Audio goes through the speakers even with headphones connected. The only time audio comes through the headphones as it should is when I test audio through them in the control panel. The headphones work just fine, and this issue did not exist before I reset my computer.

Yesterday Windows 10 updated and now my Aune T1 Mk2 USB DAC is no longer working. It shows up in the device manager and is recognized and the audio is switched to be playing through it, however there is not sound whatsoever in my headphones. I have tried a different pair of headphones and there was no change, still no sound.

I just encountered a problem yesterday, I'm unable to change my headphones to the default device. I can only set them to Default Communications Device or not default anything. Here's a picture of my playback devices tab.
The communications headphones is the headphone jack, and the speakers just don't work anymore for some reason. also my volume mixer is empty.
I noticed the problem when I saw that my mixer was empty, and I had League of Legends muted before it started, so now I can't unmute it.

Sound comes through perfectly fine on my laptop's built-in speakers. However, when plugging my headphones into the 3.5mm headset jack, there is no sound whatsoever. The system recognizes that my headset is plugged in. In fact, the microphone on my headset functions perfectly when plugged in, but the headphones themselves are outputting no sound.
I tested the headphones on other computers and devices, and they work. In Device Manager, the device is listed as "Realtek High Definition Audio". However, the only sound device listed in Control Panel is "DTS Audio Control Panel".
I've tried uninstalling the audio device from Device Manager, and then reinstalling the driver from Realtek's website. However, this is met with the exact same results... no sound through the headphones, and "DTS Audio Manager" is installed in the Control Panel instead of Realtek HD Audio Manager.
If I navigate to Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback, "Headphones" is not listed as a device. Instead, Speakers/Headphones is listen as the sole device. Also, I ran DirectX Diagnostic Tool, and it returned absolutely no errors.

So last time I Disabled the head phones in the Sound>Playback device list and after that I couldn't see them on this list anymore (Even when checking Show Disabled Devices) I already tried Updating the Driver in Device Manager>Sound,Video and Game controllers>(HeadPhones)>Properties>Driver and it still didn't work , I also tried Re-Installing them from computer and Restarting the Computer and nothing worked. I don't have any panel jack Disable front detection option in Realtek HD Audio Manager
I'm on Toshiba Laptop, Windows 10 and using Logitech G930 HeadSet. No hedphones nor microphone are enabled , and i can not change it.

I have tried both front and rear inputs and still no success. My PC won't recognize my headphones being plugged in. They're headphones with a USB and 2 jacks (speakers and mic), and when plugged in the green light is active on the headphones showing their working/have power. Changing the connector to a solo jack, I can plug it into my PS4 / iPhone and it works fine. However on my PC it doesn't work, despite it working completely fine for 2 weeks until 2 days ago.
I've tried going to device manager and updating drivers, and I've also tried managing audio settings and making it my default device but the PC is not picking up the headphones exist, even after ticking Show Disabled Devices. In device managers, the headphones aren't under "Sound, video and game controllers", "Audio inputs and outputs", or "Unknown Devices" (as I have no Unknown Devices menu). I do not have RealTek Audio Manager. These are the solutions that worked for most people but not myself.
The events that led to this error was last night I was trying to watch a film but my TV (which is my monitor) speakers weren't working. After updating sound drivers and realising they were for some reason disabled, I re-enabled them and they worked fine. However, disabling them again does not fix the problem. The PC does not pick up the headphones at all, mic or sound. I do believe that it is an issue with the newest drivers I installed after upgrading to Windows 10 three days ago. The headphones worked fine on Windows 10, but I believe the issue is with the new drivers I installed to make my TV speakers work.

I've got a little issue, whenever I plugin headphones (usb) I dont get sound and the sound is still going through speakers, I didn't had problem with this until the latest update on Windows, its really annoying cause everytime I want to switch to headphones I need to restart my PC. Yes I checked sound settings, the headphones are there when I plug them, there's just no sound.

I'm experiencing sound issues in Windows 10. What happens is my laptop speakers work fine, I plug headphones in and they work fine, then I unplug the headphones and I don't get audio anymore - it used to seemlessly switch back to my laptop speakers. I've been having no trouble with this in windows 10 since upgrading until today. I tried reinstalling the sound card driver - that didn't work. Once it gets stuck on the headphones all I can do to reset it to my speakers is to go to the device and properties > advanced > reset to default (I noticed all this does is change the bitrate in the dropdown).

I have an HP laptop, and my sound card is (displayed using PCIutils for Windows):
Code:
Intel Corporation 7 Series / C210 Series
and I am finding difficulties in getting stereo sound from analogical headphones (plugged in with 3.5mm jack). Drivers downloaded from HP or Realtex do not work, drivers supplied by Windows (although they are Realtek drivers as well) sometimes work, I mean: speakers and headphones are shown together at the mixer, and sound from headphones is not stereo. I then go to device manager, audio input and output, and uninstall "Speakers/ Headphones". I then reboot with my headphones plugged in, and, after that, the sound is stereo, and (IIRC) the mixer distinguishes between headphones and speakers.
But then things get broken back soon: one time, the windows updated the sound driver, and no stereo sound again. I uninstalled the device, rebooted, and stereo back. Then I unplugged the headphones, and windows said that no speakers were found: I restarted the audio device, speakers were found again, but stereo broken again.

Realtek HD Changing Jack output reassignments ( FIX ) - I found this old thread but Its not useful because my regedit index doesn't look the same as theirs.
I don't have a "DevType_0888_SS147b1083" or "DevType_0885_SS18490890" folder in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}000Settings"
Mine is named "Drv7541_DevType_0889_SS10438418" and I don't know which files I'm supposed to edit there.
This is what it looks like....

Ok here's whats happening I have a emachine el1360G originally windows 7 but recently upgraded to windows 10 pro.I had no previous problems with my headphones. There the kind you just plug in there nothing special. There the 5.00 ones from walmart. So like I said nothing special.Sometimes when I unplug the headphones the screen will flicker black a few times.
For example tonight I was watching a few videos with my headphones on from youtube. The headphones worked fine and no flashing screen. But then the cord came unplugged and then I went to my music folder without noticing the headphones were unplugged. And the screen flickered black twice. And then when I went into the artists folder it flashed twice again. Then I looked at the cord and plugged it back in and clicked on a .mp3 file to open and there was no more flashing.
So it only happens when the headphones come unhooked but if I turn the computer on without plugging in the headphones and then do the same thing with opening the folders and files there's no flashing screen.I was told once it maybe because I don't have updated display drivers but I checked tonight and I do. So now I'm stumped.

I have a M4A87TD EVO motherboard and use windows 10. Everytime nvidia puts out a new driver for my GTX 960 graphics card it seems to conflict with my motherboard VIA driver. I never had problems with windows 7. I'm not the only one having problems with this. My computer defaults to my hdmi monitor speakers, I have to keep changing it to my plug in speakers and doesn't cross over automatically to head phones when I plug them in. my headphones constantly disappears from my playback devices so I constantly have to delete the drivers and reinstalling them.

This may possibly sound like a stupid question but can I mute the system notification sounds when I have headphones plugged in?
Last night I was happily watching a video with headphones when an e-mail came in; Windows blared a load BING at me.

In windows 7, when headphones were plugged into the jack on the front of the machine it would automatically switch to the headphones and mute the speakers. If you unplugged them, it would enable the speakers. How would I go about enabling this on Windows 10?

I upgraded my Lenovo W530 running Win7 Pro 64 bit to Windows 10. After the upgrade I can no longer connect to my bluetooth headphones which worked before the upgrade. The bluetooth radio is on. When I click Connect in the Action Center it shows that the headphones are connected but they are not. The headphones (actually my hearing aids) play a notification sound when a bluetooth connection is made and I never hear that sound. If I play music the sound goes to the speaker, not my headphones. I have removed the headphones and repaired them. I have checked that all of the bluetooth device drivers are up to date in Device Manager.

I have a laptop - Asus GL551JW-DS71.
My speakers work fine but when I plug in my headphones, I can't hear any sound from the headphones. The headphones do work as I use them for my desktop.
I have tried updating the sound drivers from the device manager.
I have tried removing the drivers and redownloading the audio drivers from Acers website.
I have tried 'installing' audio driver with the default windows 10 audio driver instead of the realtek one.
I have tried adjusting the sample rate in the advanced properties tab.
What can I do to get sound working in my headphones again and not just the speakers.

I am having audio problems that I have been unable to resolve. My pc specs and problem below. So since I upgraded to Windows 10 one of the biggest things that annoys me is when I plug in headphones they are not picked up by my pc and I have to manually switch to them as default audio using the Playback devices menu. On Windows 7 I had a Audio Control panel that popped up and detected the headphones.
I am also having issues with the volume sounding low throughout and terrible call quality on skype not sure if this is a separate issue, I have tried manually updating, removing & reinstalling the audio drivers from the device manager and also tried downloading the realtek windows 10 drivers. None of these have seemed to work, I have tried software that detects out of date drivers to no avail and also made sure other components on my pc are updated incase this somehow worked.

After a successful upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 I discovered that YouTube would not play. Fixed the video problem by running in compatibility mode .. BUT then noticed there was no sound from either speakers or headphones on my laptop. No Windows sounds, iTunes, nothing worked. Could this be a setting inadvertently turned "off' somewhere ? Up until I got YouTube working the sound was fine with Windows 10. I just don't know where to look to rectify this. Rebooting etc doesn't make any difference. I don't suspect a hardware fault, it must be an OS corruption or something.

I have a laptop with one jack for headphones and microphone. The computer will not register headphones being plugged in. The speakers work fine and continue going when headphones are plugged in.
I have the newest audio driver and I can find no way to get the headphones to work. I don't know if it's the hardware, Windows 1-, the drivers, or something else.

I have sound from the speakers, but not from the headphones.
I've tried the headphones on my phone and they work, so it is the PC.
It's like the headphone jack doesn't work, but I have suspicions that it's about the drivers.
In the sound settings/playback devices, the speakers appear, but not the headphones.

I recently updated to Win 10, and the first thing I noticed was that the sound settings were weird. Both speakers and headphone sounds work perfectly fine, but they don't automatically switch when I plug/unplug the headphones. I have to manually go into sound and set one device or another to default.
