View 1 RepliesI recently did a clean install on Windows 10. I've updated my drivers, downloaded some games, even made some system restore points. I installed Steam & it killed my internet, making connections to the Internet, Dropbox, sporadic though my RPD client seemed unphased..I think it has to do with Steams UDP request overwhelming my Comcast modem.
Anyways, so I did a system restore prior to installing steam and fixed the problems, I have great internet again. The problem I am now having is that I check my downloads folder on Windows 10 and my previous downloads are not there, so I redownload them. Now I have all these new downloads showing up as programinstaller.exe (1), as if there's already a file with the exact same name in that folder. Sure enough I was going to reinstall steam, the installer was not visible, but doing a folder search it shows up.
how I can see all of the files in my folders, it's going to drive me bonkers having files that I can't see. I have hidden files checked to be shown.
I have multiple hidden files on my computer. I am planning on downloading Windows 10 sometime soon. But I was wondering if I did, would I have to re-hide my currently hidden files and folders? (By the way I am currently running Windows 8.1).
View 1 RepliesSince yesterday I've been unable to toggle hidden files from the View tab of the ribbons. It's unchecked and when I click on it the check mark appears for a second and disappear again.
Only change I've done recently is installed an antivirus (Bitdefender 2016), could that be the cause?
I had this problem before on Windows 8.1 before it got updated and I had to do a reinstall to fix it. I really don't wanna do it again.
I need to visualize the hidden files. How to do it in Windows 10? In Control Panel the is no "folder options".
View 3 RepliesYesterday, I inserted a flash drive on my PC and it was loaded with trojans. I managed to clear them with Kaspersky but after that I noticed that all the hidden files in my C drive have turned Un-hidden. (Including desktop.ini's)
View 6 RepliesAs an administrator, I thought I was telling Windows to allow me to show hidden files for all files under a given user. Turned out I made them hidden.
Questions...
How do I view hidden files. [URL] doesn't seem to be correct as I do not even see the typical "Windows" start icon.
So I had some hidden files (media) on another drive, I reformatted windows and now the hidden files wont open. Are they lost for good or is there some way I may unlock them to open!
View 9 RepliesI've discovered a hidden folder on my C Drive and there are a number of logs and xml files inside. At first, I was denied access to all of them, but I changed the permissions.
This is a Windows 10 desktop with a clean install (not upgraded) of Win 10 from a USB dongle purchased locally and installed on or around January 19. The path is as follows: C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther*
There is also an empty folder inside Panther called "Resources" and the folder icon has 2 blue arrows which I think indicates NTFS Compression. The longest file and perhaps the most informative is setupact.log.
I'm a senior in high school and like so many others, we are using Google Chromebooks, so I'm used to sharing through Google Drive. So, I've just uploaded the folder and shared the files through the link : [URL] .....
I can't open any photo files, it says they have the wrong file name. I had to update windows 10 because word stopped working ( I had already updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8, thinking it can't be worse than Windows 8 - but I was wrong about that.)
Word 13 stopped working a few days ago, and a computer techician tried to identify what was wrong. After checking various things he reinstalled Windows 10. Now I can't open any photo files, it says they have the wrong file name. I could always open the photos before. How can I view and edit my photos as I could before ?
Also is this problem with Word 13 continually jamming and stopping working also due to some windows 10 issue, or is it a virus ?
For some reason I have lost use of the Edit Photo options. How to get it back? I can open the photos just fine. But when I click on the edit buttons it says "Can't edit. We are having trouble opening this file for editing." I have not change my file types or anything else. Tried several different pictures and it just keep saying the same thing. Was working just fine for the last 2 years.
View 1 RepliesI am having problems using the default photo viewer in windows 10. For one thing when I download a photo, I am not given any option on where to save the photo. When I get the photo to open, there is a band at the top of the page which covers part of the photo.
View 5 RepliesIf you look in C:WindowsMedia, there seems to be some sounds that were created for Windows 10.
Like Windows Logon.wav. Did Microsoft scrap these sounds? For some reason, the option to choose a Log on or Log Off sound doesn't exist in the "Sounds" settings in the Control Panel.
I recently downloaded Windows 10 Pro and Display Fusion (I prefer it) for my multi-monitor setup and now when I alt-tab I see : Which are many miscellaneous applications that seemingly have no use.
View 2 RepliesJust got a new Asus laptop - it came with windows 10 home version installed. There was also some unneeded software installed so I am wondering if I can extract Windows 10 and the necessary drivers to an external drive and then reformat & install from that....? (I have the product id and key)
View 1 RepliesI need to create an admin account in our home computer, but it needs to be a hidden account. Is it possible? I have access to everything in the computer, and I also had replaced the utilman.exe with the command line, to use it on the system startup.
I'm trying to create a viable family monitoring system in the computer, I managed to install the software called [key logger removed by admin] to remotely check on the computer, and now I need to create a hidden account.
By hidden I just want it to doesn't show on the windows startup, but if I can log in through it, of course. Just to hide it from the list where all the other users appears.
How to make super hidden folder?(and super hidden contents,too).... I hope its unsearchable.
View 5 RepliesI used the Share by mail of Windows 10 frequently. Accidentally, after pressed the Share button, I right click and hide the Mail app in the Windows 10 "share list" (The list displayed to the right after the share button is pressed). How can I unhide the hidden app?
The share button in windows 10 is the circle with 3 points. It is found in many app and in the share menu of File Explorer.

After I had installed Windows 10, I restored some backup files I had from another computer using Windows 7. When I tried to access the files, I was told that none of my software could load the files. After doing some research on several of the Windows forums, I found out the account I had been using from the very beginning was not the "real" Administrator account. As such, I could not change any of the User Privileges. Research again indicated I needed to "activate" the EUC Administrator, which I did.
However, I was never asked for a Password when it was activated. Now, when I try to access the new Administrator account, I can't get past the Logon screen as I do not have a password. I have tried ALL the passwords I can remember from both the current Windows 7 and 10 User/Administrator accounts on this and the other computer, all to no avail. HOW do I either determine what the "default" password is or how do I change the "default" password without knowing what is in the system right now?
Recently I had to make a change in my computer that required the Elevated Administrator account to be used. I finally figured out how to open that account, did my thing, shut down the Elevated Administrator account, and returned to my standard account. Then I discovered that I must have done something else while in Elevated Administrator mode because after that I could not install or uninstall any program, could Not access System Configuration, could Not access Safe Mode (used the shutdown /r /o command. When I got to the selection window and pressed F4 I waited for 45 minutes with no Safe Mode result), cmd -> "run as administrator" does not work. When using the GUI to work on this (open Elevated Administrator) I get "To continue, type an administrator password, and then click Yes." But there is no place for a password and the Yes button is not active. When I use the command prompt I get an Error 5 message.

View 4 RepliesI've just clean installed Windows 10 with some app. The TaskSchedule shows many hidden tasks. Is this service harmful to my desktop: BackgroundUploadTask
View 4 RepliesI'm not sure if this is even a Windows 10 problem. I've had this issue for a while, and I used to have to restart (or wait) to get it to resolve.
When I try to open either IE or Chrome, the icons appear at the bottom of the screen and if I left-click it a small browser window is visible right above the icon, but it won't open normally. In the past I tried various combinations of the arrow keys and cntrl, alt, the windows button, etc. and once or twice I got it up there.
The problem used to happen after I already had a browser open and then wasn't active for a while. Now, like I said, it's there from the get-go.
Windows is frustratingly taking up all of my time and I have tried everything google has to offer to try and fix it but it seems like no one has screwed up as much as I have on whatever forum.I'm trying to set my account to administrator because I can't install programs, change account settings, make any changes through CMD without getting the system error 5 access denied message and I can't set the administrator account through CMD either. I also don't have the permission to change anything in regedit and I can't even reset my pc because it requires an administrator password which I don't have, is not "nothing" nor is it administrator or admin or password and I can't change it through cmd either.I can't even access the administrator account because it is disabled and even with an elevated cmd I can't activate the "hidden" administrator account.
View 9 RepliesI have Windows Defender set to not show on the taskbar and it normally doesn't show in any form however when I launch the program or do a scan, the "show hidden icon" arrow will appear on the taskbar and if I click it, the Windows defender icon is there.
Once I'm done with Windows defender and have closed it, the hidden icon arrow remains along with the defender icon that can be accessed by clicking it.
How can i make this hidden icon arrow either never show when I do a win defender scan or at least go away once done with my use of Win defender - like the way it was before I clicked it? Restarting the computer btw does remove it until I launch it again.
