I have Windows 10 Home 10240 build upgraded from Windows 8.1 Core. I have a inconvenient problem, if i create a new folder on the desktop. Right-Click -> New -> Folder, seems that explorer.exe crashes. Everything disappears desktop icon, taskbar. After 1 or 2 seconds everything comes back to normal and folder is created.
View 1 RepliesAbout a week after Clean Installing Windows 10 from an upgraded version on my laptop, I noticed that i wasn't able to Create a New Folder anywhere, from Desktop to File Explorer Directories. Nothing! Even when i try clicking the "New Folder" Button in the Ribbon or pressing Ctrl+Shift+N it still won't work. In the Context Menu (Right Click), I can't find the "New" Button too. Is this normal for Windows 10 after being installed? Do i have to install something (maybe an update) for the "New" to appear in the Context Menu?
View 9 RepliesWhen ever I turn on my pc it shows this home screen, and if I access desktop by searching it a folder opens which contain desktop icon and even by pressing windows logo button it doesn't change to desktop but remains at that home screen. I am using different thing by Tab+Alt buttons.
Also you can see the task bar it has a strange view that was never before and see the bottom right corner it is strange! also by clicking the extreme bottom right corner I didn't reach the desktop. (Not even by pressing Windows logo+D button).
When I boot my pc sometimes I get a black screen. But by pressing ctr alt & delete I can log out, and then login and its then OK. I have reset my pc but its still the same.
View 4 RepliesAfter I bootup my desktop shows then after a few minutes it turns into a black screen with cursor only. Ctrl+alt+delete is working and I managed to get into file explorer by "open file location" in task manager>processes.
I tried checking updates for windows but I am updated, I tried reinstalling my amd driver for windows 10 and tried the method windows+p-down-down-enter since I saw in other threads that windows 10 "detects" two monitors due to two graphic cards.
Same thing happens in safe mode. I think some services of windows exits and I can't pinpoint what. Even the keyboard shortcuts like volume doesn't work except for brightness.
Images below is the only way I get to my apps, I just right click on this pc then properties to get to control panel.
I have an HP ENVY 4 notebook PC (64-bit OS/x64-Based processor) and I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7, the only issue is that my screen is black with the cursor, so if I hit CTRL + ALT + DEL and open Task Manager and then run new task Explorer.exe my desktop comes back And I can see my apps but then it goes back to black.
View 2 RepliesI installed desktop gadget for my win 10 and for some weird reason when I am in dota 2 menu and then go back to desktop (windows button or alt+tab) my gadgets (default windows gadgets) calendar, weather and CPU&RAM meter turns black like there is only buttons on right top side of it... but when I move across weather gadget with cursor it just clear itself rest two are black calendar complete and under CPU&RAM meter is something like black panel and when I press button for changing size it fix itself .
View 4 RepliesAfter upgrading to windows 10, my desktop will flash to a black screen for a few seconds and the desktop seems to refresh itself. Every time this happens it will close out of any files I have open and will even change focus to the desktop for several programs. This happens every 1 to 3 minutes. Have had this problem from day 1 of upgrading to windows 10.
I have looked for solutions to the problem, however, none of the solutions have worked for me. Other users had problems that occurred with the iCloud (which i don't have installed) and reporting services (tried turning these services off and nothing changed).
I installed windows 10 from 8.1 on my Vision E2 Gateway. When I sign in, the desktop keeps flashing a black screen every second. It doesn't allow me to open anything, I can't click on any icons visible, and this has been happening ever since I first signed in with windows 10. Is it a virus or something? It can't be that my computer isn't compatible, because it TOLD me it WAS.

All seemed to work well until I did a clean install of Win 7 on my second PC and tried to reconnect the PCs via homegroup.As I began to setup the fresh Win 7 PC, I discovered I couldn't join the existing homegroup. Seemed reasonable, so I left all homegroups but found that the new homegroup on Win 7 couldn't be joined by Win 10 and I can't create one on Win 10. Network discovery is enabled on both but when I checked running services on Win 10, I found that Peer Network Grouping could not be started "on local machine" Error Code 1068). Network Discovery and IPv6 are enabled, etc.
In Network view, Win 7 can access the NAS as can Win 10, but they cannot access each other. I don't want to revert back to Win 7, but the thought of having to manage all file transfers through my NAS as an intermediary is undesirable. I should have added that I had run the troubleshooters on both PCs and no problems were found by either the network or homegroup troubleshooters. PC 1 is running Windows 7 Home Premium and PC 2 is Win 10 with all updates.When I first upgraded to Win 10 on PC 2, I was able to connect to homegroup, However, when I did a fresh install of Win 7 on PC 1, I have had this homegroup problem. As I recall this also affected my ability to share printer on Win 10 PC.
I have recently upgraded my workplace systems with windows 10. all the PC's except for one have been flawless.The last PC who created our homegroup has come up with an error. At first no matter what i did i couldn't get the other computers on the network to discover the PC even when connected to the homegroup. So i decided i would disconnect all the PC's from the homegroup and start again....
Once i had every PC left from the homegroup it now says the problem PC which created the homegroup in the first place is inviting me to join a homegroup!!! i now cannot connect even with the correct password and all the other PCS cannot connect to this ghost homegroup that no longer exists (or even the PC to that matter).
I have tried various fixes on the internet to no avail and i have used the method where you delete the files in C:WindowsService Profiles Local Service App DataRoamingPeerNetworking also to no avail... i now have every PC out of the homegroup and turned off and just this one PC.
I used to see icons on my desktop and today, they disappear altogether. There is a side bar you work with and I don't feel comfortable.
The screen is black and if I right click on screen, it does not work and nothing is coming up to chose. When changing screens, I see glimpse of icons on the desktop momentarily.
So, my true desktop screen seems to be covered by this new black screen with left side bar.
So I have a bit of a problem where my screen flashes, I instantly thought it was display drivers so I uninstalled them only to worsen the problem, the computer restarted with a black screen which later turned into a desktop screen with no icons and a flashing screen (can't click anything or even load up the start menu with the windows key). I put it into safe mode but it does the same thing. Nothing works except task manager and i can't run task from it or it will exit out, system restore doesn't fix the issue either. Computer is a lenovo k450 i5-4440 8gb ram 1tb hdd with an evga gtx 760.
View 1 RepliesI have two machines running Windows 10 "ermintrude and dougal" and I want my home folder on each to be shared with the other on my home network. dougal can see my home folder on ermintrude, but not the other way round. I have been through all the advanced sharing settings on each machine and compared them, and I have done the same for the sharing settings for each home folder, but I cannot find any difference between them. They are identical. Each is set to share as owner using the same Hotmail address as login and the same password. As I said, I cannot find anything different between the two configurations.
View 3 RepliesStarting with the Redstone insider previews, my HP mediasmart home server works for automatic backups, and I can open the server console to manage the server. But it is impossible to map a folder on the WHS to a drive.; none of the shared folders on the WHS are visible, and the homes server is not visible under network. Troubleshooting indicates a missing protocol, but has no solution. Everything works fine on the no-preview PCs on the network. I am concerned that MS is abandoning the WHS and am worried about future official updates.

I can create a 'new folder' on my desktop and put it in the Documents folder, but I cannot use the "new folder" icon in the Quick Access bar to create one in the Documents folder itself. Am I failing to see something I should have done?
It works fine, but suddenly today the New menu disappeared from my click menu when I click on any blank place in a folder. What's worse, if I click the New Folder button under the File Explorer top menu, there is no response. In the end, I can only create new folders using command lines but not by the usual shortcuts.
