Home Group - Enabled All Sharing Setup And Both Machines Are Detected
Aug 28, 2015
I am trying to connect my Windows 10 laptop to my Windows 10 PC. I have enabled all the sharing setup and both machines are detected but that is as far I can go. Each time I try to join the homegroup (on PC) I am told that no network exists. Both machines are on the same network system and work fine on the internet. I seem to be having laptop problems since Windows 10 was installed although the PC is OK.

After latest W10 updates W10 computers can't see ANY other machines on my LAN.
2 Linux Machines, one W7, one XP and 2 W10 machines on a LAN.
Linux easily sees ALL computers and can access shared folders.
W7 and XP machines see All machines - Wndows and Linux. XP needs 128 bit encryption altered - no problem here though.
I've got both IVP4 and Ivp6 enabled.
W10 machines ONLY see their OWN individual machine -- nothing else -- not a sauasage.
The W10 machines can access PLEX and Logitech media servers running on Linux / Windows machines but the computers are missing.
Seriously MS Windows networking seems hosed up BIG TIME.
Note all these computers are on WIRELESS connections -- my Wireless speed is pretty good so not a problem for what I need.
C'mon ms - why is Windows Networking always a bit of hit and miss -- I've been using SAMBA on Linux for years and have never found any problem with Networking.
W7 is pretty good too (usually although I've had the odd rogue machine where networking seems to fail even though hardware and software is identical to another machine on network. W10 though while good in other things brings a whole slew of difficulty to networking. I shudder to think of what happens when I install a decent NAS this year.

I have two machines running Windows 10 "ermintrude and dougal" and I want my home folder on each to be shared with the other on my home network. dougal can see my home folder on ermintrude, but not the other way round. I have been through all the advanced sharing settings on each machine and compared them, and I have done the same for the sharing settings for each home folder, but I cannot find any difference between them. They are identical. Each is set to share as owner using the same Hotmail address as login and the same password. As I said, I cannot find anything different between the two configurations.

Trying to set up a network for the first time. My intention was to share public folders but when I right click on my user folders (e.g. PCUsersDaveDocuments they are shown as "Shared" and clicking on "Stop sharing" doesn't seem to do anything. Am I missing something.

I'm having problems a PC that I upgraded to win 10. All seemed to work well until I did a clean install of Win 7 on my second PC and tried to reconnect the PCs via homegroup. As I began to setup the fresh Win 7 PC, I discovered I couldn't join the existing homegroup. Seemed reasonable, so I left all homegroups but found that the new homegroup on Win 7 couldn't be joined by Win 10 and I can't create one on Win 10. Network discovery is enabled on both but when I checked running services on Win 10, I found that Peer Network Grouping could not be started "on local machine" Error Code 1068). Network Discovery and IPv6 are enabled, etc.
In Network view, Win 7 can access the NAS as can Win 10, but they cannot access each other. I don't want to revert back to Win 7, but the thought of having to manage all file transfers through my NAS as an intermediary is undesirable. I should have added that I had run the troubleshooters on both PCs and no problems were found by either the network or homegroup troubleshooters. PC 1 is running Windows 7 Home Premium and PC 2 is Win 10 with all updates. When I first upgraded to Win 10 on PC 2, I was able to connect to homegroup, However, when I did a fresh install of Win 7 on PC 1, I have had this homegroup problem. As I recall this also affected my ability to share printer on Win 10 PC.

I have recently upgraded my workplace systems with windows 10. all the PC's except for one have been flawless. The last PC who created our homegroup has come up with an error. At first no matter what i did i couldn't get the other computers on the network to discover the PC even when connected to the homegroup. So i decided i would disconnect all the PC's from the homegroup and start again....
Once i had every PC left from the homegroup it now says the problem PC which created the homegroup in the first place is inviting me to join a homegroup!!! i now cannot connect even with the correct password and all the other PCS cannot connect to this ghost homegroup that no longer exists (or even the PC to that matter).
I have tried various fixes on the internet to no avail and i have used the method where you delete the files in C:WindowsService Profiles Local Service App DataRoamingPeerNetworking also to no avail... i now have every PC out of the homegroup and turned off and just this one PC.

I have a gaming machine at home that was running W7. I upgraded to W10. It went from W7 Ultimate to W10 Pro, which is fine. Not long after that, I ran into some issues that I was unable to correct, sfc /scannow was failing, and I couldn't get DISM to read the source files correctly to execute a repair.Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
This was successful, and I thought I was on my merry way. Then after I was using it for a few minutes, it came up with a message that I didn't have an AV running. So, it pointed me to the AV control panel, but everything was greyed out. Then I went into update, and got the notorious "Some system settings are managed by your organization."I'm quite sure this is a group policy issue, but I'm confused as to why it just decided to clamp down on group policy when this machine isn't in a domain (it's in a workgroup). I then found some instructions that said to delete the GP directories and do "gpupdate /force". That didn't work either.

I have tried everything that I know to correct this issue! But the fact of the matter is I can't fix this without having an idstore.sst file that supports the HomeGroup features and services it cannot be restored to it's proper configurations.
So how to turn-on HomeGroup without having the idstore.sst file in C:WindowsService ProfilesLocal ServiceAppDataRoamingPeer Networking folder????
Will Win. 10 not have the idstore file in it or what do I do to correct this??? It is the idstore.sst file that when deleted and re-starting of the system that enables it to renew the idstore.sst file and re-stores connectivity and enabling to the p2p.svc, PRNP.svc, and the Peer Networking Grouping.svc that allows Home Group to run properly. At this point I cannot enable these services without the idstore.sst file.

At first my pc would not even connect to a network so deleted and reinstalled the ethernet drivers.
Managed after several attempts to change my network from public to private, but i still have no access to the network.

I have 5 computers and 4 are running Windows 10. The machine I use as the main one I upgraded from Windows 7 ULT to Win 10 and have had little trouble but, my number 2 machine I added the insider preview 5 builds ago and since then, when trying to view all machines in explorer only the Computers come up yet, on the main machine no problem, all machines that are on the network show up. The pic on the left is the No 2 machine and the one on the right is the No 1 machine. I use assigned IP addresses on all the hardware that show up in No 1.

I have a small network of computers and Homegroup is working a little to well. The network has had to have some changes, machines converting to W10 and changing names. The problem is there does not seem to be a way to refresh the Homegroup list of machines that have joined the Homegroup.
Or is there? do you know a way to display only the machines live on the LAN.?

The disk drive is physically working and connected properly to the motherboard. I can open it, put in a disk, see the light flashing and hear it humming. But cds/dvds do not run despite autoplay being enabled. There is no icon for the drive in explorer, but it does appear in device manager as SlimType DVD A DS8A5SH (double listing).
Worked when I had Winblows 7 : Sometimes works edition.

I know its a rule of thumb to leave it disabled if running an SSD, but I'm confused since I have both an SSD [ C: ] ( which serves as my boot drive ) and an HDD [ D: ] where I store the rest of my files.
Since there is no option to disable it only for one drive ( Which if there was i would disable it only for the SSD ) Should I just disable it altogether? or would that be a bad idea. Or is there any way I can disable it only for the SSD [ C: ]

I have Windows 10 Home installed and activated (as Windows to Go) on an external Samsung T1 SSD. I enabled hibernation per the instructions here: Hibernate - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums. However, every time I attempt to hibernate, the screen goes black but the PC never powers off and Windows never successfully hibernates. (Hibernation works perfectly on the Windows 7 installation on the internal SSD.)

Windows 10 OneDrive seems to only want to operate as your primary file storage repository with your PC being a potential backup for OneDrive. I do not want to use it in that manner. How do I use OneDrive to simply copy selected files and folders from my PC to OneDrive without any Syncing enabled? If I deselect 'Sync files and folders' in OneDrive settings, it seems to disable the OneDrive link in File Explorer. Ideally I would like to have a backup setup to sync OneDrive with my PC so that OneDrive mirrors my PC...not the other way around. how to copy files from PC to OneDrive using File Explorer.

i had secure boot up and running on my windows 8.1 machine after a clean install, but now since Microsoft upgraded me to windows 10 it seems as my secure boot is off again, but it's enabled in my bios is so weird, it's enabled in bios but off in windows 10? Is not much of a big deal to me in a since but just wondering why it still shows as on in bios but off in windows 10.

After I activate my guest account with "net user guest /activate:yes" at the dos command prompt, the guest desktop pulsates several time a second between the desktop and then back to a black screen. A real problem as pretty much all the sites my daughter wants to use needs flash player! I know this is not an isolated problem to us as I've seen other posts elsewhere - but no resolution as yet.
