I am trying to disable the text popup that is shown when you hover over the search icon on the task bar. This is affecting me actually using the search function. When I am about to click the icon this text "Search the web and windows" pops up and makes it so you cannot click the search.
View 2 RepliesI have windows 10 and use IE11 / Google. Each time I hover my mouse over an image I get a Pin it message in red, I can't find anything on Google to remove this annoying feature.
I have gone on to their website and disables the feature but it does nothing.
The pop up information when hovering over an icon and in some files is unreadable in Win 10. See screen images.

View 2 RepliesI've just updated Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. It's pretty nice but I found that the text is a little blurry at some areas of the screen. Not everywhere but on some areas The resolution is 1366x768 - as it should be but I the text is blurry anyways. Here's an image:
View 1 RepliesOne thing that drives me bonkers is having a mouse pointer open any file whose name I might inadvertently hover over for a few seconds. I want files to open ONLY when I double click them. In earlier versions of Windows it was easy to turn the open on hover feature off, which I always did. However there is no option to turn it off in Windows 10 that I can find anywhere in Settings.
View 9 RepliesFor instance, if I highlight a word in a text-entry field, it's a very bright blue. This is also true in Firefox, Thunderbird, Word, OneNote, various fora, etc. but not in Excel.
Prior to installing Windows 10, the highlight in a text-entry field was either pale grey (on dark backgrounds) or darker grey (on light backgrounds), which is what I'd like to have back.
How to indent Footnote text (between the raised number and the body text) automatically?
I have word 2013, and I would like to insert an indentation 1.5 between the raised number and the text in footnotes (see figure 1)
Figure 1
1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
2xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
3xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
When I go to "Footnote Text" style, and then paragraph to do the indentation, it moves the number and the text to the right (see figure 2). But I do not want this.
Figure 2
1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 2xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx3xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
If I use the hanging option, it only indents the texts below the first line (see figure 3)
Figure 3
1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I have gone to "Footnote Reference" style, but the "paragraph" tab is locked. I cannot enter. How to unlock it? Alternatively, how can I get the results I want (figure 1)....
The red line says something like "Some settings are handled by the company/organization".Which company or organization? If I were at work I'd be thinking about some LDAP setting and it would be all right, but here I'm at home, I have a very straightforward network and configuration.I'm not 100% sure, but I seem to recall this red text line wasn't there after the fresh install I did some weeks ago.
Still I can't think of anything that I tweaked that might have affected that. The only thing I changed is in the windows hidden advanced settings, where I chose so that Windows Update doesn't automatically download/install stuff, but asks for my permission first.
Recently I've changed my Mobo, CPU and RAM. Installed Windows 8 Pro Retail and upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. Worked perfectly and no problems
But I've noticed that if I need to restart the system I will get the usual Blue screen saying "Restarting", this will then goto a Black screen.
Nothing happens after the black screen, I never see my BIOS image or any text whatsoever (Which I usually see on a normal boot). IF I then press and hold the power button to force shutdown the computer and then press it again it will perform a normal boot, I see the BIOS Image etc.
after an update at starting, tablet laptop start gives picture/clock screen, that slides to the password screen but when password block is touched on screen or mouse clicked the screen flips back to the picture/clock ... how to deal with this kind of lock out that the typing box won't open and loops to clock screen? have turned off for an hour to see if that does it..but if not...would restarting into a repair or recovery be possible fix...i have never been able to get into safe mode without being logged in but have gotten into recovery during a restart which made me wonder if entering a recovery during boot and reversing the upgrade was possible if all else fails...
View 1 RepliesI got a brand new laptop and updated to windows 10 from windows 8.1.Windows makes me hate windows 10. There were issues like monitor brightness and sound. But now both are fixed after updating the drivers, i guess. I have laptop with 1080p resolution, for reading purposes. 15.6 inches though. So the GUI looks really small when its at 100 display ratio (or whatever its called). So i have increased the ratio to 150% and most of the applications have gone super blurry.
I have looked for fixes online, but all the solutions i have found do not work.I have tried XPE Windows 10 DPI Fix. (Did not work)I have tried putting a cmd file in start up. (Did not work)Now i am rethinking why i bought a windows laptop.
My specs:
Make - ASUS
OS - Windows 10 (Previous 8.1)
Resolution - 1920x1080
Screen size - 15.6 inch
Windows Updates - Up to date
I thought that Microsoft added the ability to text using Cortana but I cant get her to no matter what.
View 1 RepliesWindows starts up fine but after a while everything goes a bit strange, with large gaps where their should be text and areas greyed out (see jpeg attached).
This happened to me in 32 bit after I upgraded from 7. I assumed that a full hard drive format and reinstall of 64 bit would sort it out but no. Can't find anything on the net which is odd.
I have poor eyesight and have setup high contrast to see things better in windows 10.Also set the font to 10 point bold and tried the 125% setting. In windows 7 I did not have this issue, I used the classic theme, and just set the fonts all bold, no problem. I think I set the DPI also to a larger setting.
But I have a problem setting up personalization settings when it comes to colors now.It does not seem to affect windows apps already installed on the computer, but .3rd party programs mostly. One in mind is the information tab in the AMD Catalyst Drivers for instance. When I open this up the background is white and the text is an unreadable light gold color. In general if I set my theme to a normal without high contrast most of the text in all apps and programs is a light gray color, which I can barely read. I've played with my ASUS monitor settings some and been able to get more contrast.
I have had W10 for three days and it has been sending me mad. The text has been resizing and windows closing randomly. Particularly bad when typing. Finally found the cause. The new feature which allows two finger use on the mouse pad is a nightmare while typing. My wrist or fingers touch the pad briefly and then when another thing touches it then all sorts of things happen. So as I typed the text kept changes size. I found myself changing the text size back every few minutes.
It took me some time to find the problem and disable the two finger ability. It might be nice to have if I am editing pictures but it is very difficult to get too. The control panel is difficult to find. It is not in the menu.
I seem to have spent most of three days disabling everything in W10. I seem to have paid for something which is useless.
My computer recently did a disk check because of a perceived problem. Since then my text has become hard to read and nothing I do in the settings options makes any difference!
View 2 RepliesI just discovered that I, or the computer - just changed colors in my windows 10 setup..In File Explorer - Navigation Pan - view - options, I see black background with colored text. Also, in File Explorer the text is red in the Navigation Pan. Where this color change came from. I certainly don't want this. How can I get plain black print on a white background in File Explorer, ..
View 3 RepliesI just installed Windows 10 mobile (v10586.107) and I wanted to try to send a text message from my desktop through my phone to my friends. I could have sworn that I saw an article on Windows Central that explained how to connect my desktop and mobile through Cortana, but I can't seem to find it now.
Did I imagine this? Is the texting feature not implemented yet?
I was thinking it would be really great if my desktop were to inform me when I received a new message or missed a call since I hardly check my phone.
My Surface Pro alerts me when I miss a phone call. I can sends texts through Cortana, but it doesn't show me the text messages when I receive them on my phone.

View 1 RepliesI recently switched over to Windows 10. Prior to downloading Windows 10, to access my emails I typically entered the word " ixquick" in my search engine and then type "century link home" in the ixquick search box. I click on Century LInk Home which takes me to the Century Link web site. I then click on the "Mail" tab to read, respond to, or create new emails. I have been going through all these steps and through ixquick for additional security.
Now, however, when I do this same process after switching over to Windows 10 I have discovered that I am unable to type any text in new emails, or type any text when responding to emails. I can type text in the Topic Title box with no problem but the system will not allow me type anything in the message box section of the email.
Is it possible that I just have something turned off, or a button that needs to be pushed?
So, I updated to the November update, I have windows 10 mobile running on my ICON... and I can't figure out how to send a text from Cortana on my Surface to other people. I've tried signing up for the fast ring insider view on my surface, and no updates there. Cortana keeps saying she can only send text messages from a phone.
View 6 RepliesThis is a rather strange problem, the search text when searching from the start menu isn't appearing. I can still highlight it though. Also just realized the buttons to the left aren't visible either. URL....
