Windows 10 User here, so I am using one gaming monitor and one HDTV My question is Can I mirror one desktop so My brohter can watch a movie and the audio on that particular desktop is just tru HDMI to the TV Speakers, while I am gaming on the other one with headphones?
I upgraded from W8.1 to W10. After the upgrade my mirrored volume was 'gone' (created with disk management). Fortunately I was able to restore the data on one of the disks.
I cannot manage to recreate a mirror on Windows 10. I tried using disk management as well as Storage Spaces but I get errors when the formatting begins.
Even with new disks, all the same it does not seem to work. I can not figure out why...
I get: Cannot remove Storage Space (huh.. remove?? I am creating one!!).... Parameter is wrong: 0x00000057.
Could there be some history of the previous mirrored drive which is preventing me from creating a new one or should I just do a clean Windows 10 installation?
How do I automatically mirror files from a hard disk drive to a network folder?
In this case I want to mirror the contents of an entire disk containing photos (no system files) to a shared folder on an OpenMediaVault server running on my home network.
This is separate from the regular backup of the rest of my system which is done with backup software. For the contents of this disk, I don't want them compressed into a backup container file. I want them to be exact duplicates of the original files, kept up to date in that shared network location (login required).
Also, it doesn't matter if they update in real time. Once a day is fine, for example.
I'm trying to connect a Lenovo v570 to a Samsung Blu ray player (h5900) for screen mirroring. But not matter how many times I try windows wont connect to the device. As far as I can tell all my drivers are updated.
I have just set up a mirror drive(software RAID1) and want to change the drive letter. I am getting a message "The parameter is incorrect". I am wondering if I am stuck with the one assigned when the mirror drive was set up.
Running Windows 10 on a Dell Venue 8 pro Tablet. Several months ago, and just yesterday I lost my desktop. Turned on the Tablet went to the desktop picture after signing in and ... nothing. No live panels, no desktop icons, the action center would not appear. Just the desktop picture. If I tapped on the picture, the icons would appear for a split second. Anything pinned to the bar along the bottom would work. I was able to get to system restore and restore to a couple of days ago. That worked. What happened. Don't really know how to fix other than system restore.
A desktop icon suddenly appeared on my desktop.. If I delete it, the whole desktop is also deleted... The desktop folder on the drive, does not contain that icon...
Some files get backed up by File History but not Desktop or files on Desktop. I have excluded Videos, Documents, Music and Pictures as I do not want these backed up with File History.
I have turned off File History and turned it back on again, reselected the backup drive F: and selected the only folder in File History...
However, Desktop is in my user profile...
What have I done incorrectly or not done correctly?
I've got a Lenovo Desktop that was upgraded from 8.1 to 10 just after the release. I have a Toshiba Laptop which I upgraded from 7 to 10 about a month ago. Occasionally, the desktop screen for the desktop would be the default desktop image for the Toshiba laptop with "Toshiba" in the lower right corner.
Last night I performed a clean install of 10 on my Laptop. I went to bed and let the laptop work the updates as I was sleeping. When I woke up the Lenovo, again, the desktop showed the Toshiba default image rather than the one I had changed it to previously.
I had researched the issue but only after making this post is when I realized that all accounts under the same Microsoft ID will sync, including the desktop personalization. Not exactly a feature that I like. I'd like to turn that feature off.
I just received my PC and Windows 10 will not open. After bios starts the screen says, Hi there Let's get a few basic things out of the way. Asks for home country, language, keyboard layout, and time zone, then click on NEXT. Then I have a screen that says, Get going fast, click on USE EXPRESS SETTINGS. The screen then says Just A Moment with small white balls going in a circle above. At this point the screen goes black except for the white mouse pointer. I have tried two different monitors using the VGA port, one TV using the HDMI port, all with the same results.
Everytime I try to return to my desktop, it just shows my apps. It doesn't show my desktop at all, besides my desktop background, and how to revert these changes, or how I even got it like this, but I can't view my desktop.
They aren't my running apps either, just general stuff.. Calendar, mail, photos, etc.
I was a Windows 8.1 user and I just can't get it through me that there is no button to go to desktop. When I alt-tab it only shows applications i have running I tried to enable all-desktops in the mutli-tasking option in settings.
After having no problems with my own upgrade to Win10, I upgraded my dad's laptop last week. It seems to have been successful, but every so often (every couple of minutes, but not regularly) it just takes me back to the desktop.
Every once in awhile I lose my desktop which turns black and have no taskbar or icons. When this happens windows explorer appears and my gadgets are still showing and my mouse pointer shows and works. Outlook 2007 is still running ok as I hear incoming emails. My PC has a reset/restart hard button which restores everything back to normal.
I have a folder that I keep certain program shortcuts to keep from cluttering up the Start menu. I am having a problem pinning certain apps in W10. I would like to pin a couple of the games that I downloaded from the Store. When I right click. I have three choices - Pin to Start, Pin to Taskbar, Uninstall. There is No Open File Location. Is there a reason for this? On most of the other apps, I can Open File Location and copy the app to the desktop or my folder.
I could not power up my desktop but with a lot of finagling I got it going(power cord - in out). Somehow, luckily , I got something on my monitor and the power button went from yellow+steady, to white. Using Macrium I recovered an image. I then ran SFC, Dell diagnostics + all fine now ).
Question, I have a rescue flash drive WinPE for Windows 10. Could I have booted from it to get to see something on the monitor even if I could not get in the BIOS or even get anything on the screen? Do you just hold the power button until the flash drive takes over? I do not know how to use a rescue media if I cannot start the PC and googling is not working. I have run MBAM with exploit and Defender. I also have SpywareBlaster and am behind a router.
I just upgraded my wife's PC to Windows 10 after having upgraded my own machine previously. Well, my wallpaper showed up on her desktop so she reset it and her changes appeared on my machine. Yes, both machines are logged into Microsoft the same way because my wife wants anonymity so appears as me. That's good for me. But how can I keep Microsoft from copying files back and forth. And should I view or save something my wife doesn't approve of, (I don't want it appearing on her machine. That could cause a little bit of raised hackles. I just want my PC to stay the way I set it and I don't want it following me all over the web.
I have my own business. I pay CRA on line then I print off the receipt as I need a hard copy. Windows 7 it is easy as I open the pdf on my desk top and then right click on the document and the menu shows me print then I print.
Windows 10 I save the CRA receipt to my desk top, I open the pdf and then right click and all that appears is "Save as" nowhere can I find a print option or icon?
Icon shortcuts on the desktop? Even with SSD drive I will boot and whilst Windows loads in seconds when the desktop displays only about 75% of the icons display correct. The rest have the generic white paper icon, then after a couple more secs the majority then display correctly save for some stragglers which will then display correctly after a couple more secs. I thought really the icons should display properly more or less instantly.
After that it's all fine but it's same behaviour each boot. I do notice very occasionally the desktop icons refresh after boot but it's very rare and seems to coincide perhaps with app updates in background / new installs. When it does happen it's similar behaviour, the majority of icons flash white for a milli second and then appear fine but there are stragglers that take a few more secs to refresh correctly
I hid the icons when I had Windows 7 because I was using Rainmeter and I didn't want them to show. I honestly don't remember how I did it but I know I didn't delete them. Now I have Windows 10 and want them back, but "show dektop icons" is checked. How could I get them back?
I have an old HDD with windows 10 and a brand new SSD with windows 10, and I was wondering, how do I change the default desktop from the HDD to the SSD? I have tried looking in the settings but I have found nothing useful. I want to use the main desktop using my SSD's desktop not my HDD's desktop.
