View 5 RepliesI am going to update an older PC but I'm getting windows error saying the video card is not compatible (ie. Nvidia has not updated the GS 7 series drivers for Win 10)
I have searched both Asus (motherboard) and Nvidia web sites for some kind of compatibility chart or listing but can find nothing ?
When I buy a new card and/or MB...how do I know if it's going to be comparable with 10. Sites like Egghead Software have no info whatever on Win 10 compatibility of offered video cards/MB's compatible with Win 10...etc ??
My Windows' acting up, tried every trick in the book to fix it and no dice, so I'm taking the easy yet bothersome route of reinstalling everything. Again.
But Windows 10 has a "Reset this PC" option under Settings > Update & Security > Recovery (screen cap for clarity) which in practical effects, it's what I need, but faster and less bothersome.
Problem is, I have more than one (physical) hard drive on my system, and I don't know if Windows will restrain itself to formatting the system drive or if it'll format all drives present.
And I'd rather ask a relatively dumb question than risk losing all my backed up data XP.
OS win 10. Ms Outlook 2003.
Until today I was able to open .jpg etc pictures that were emailed. They were shown in Photos.
Photos is showing pictures on start up screen as slide show but apparently is not accepting additional ones.
I usually see the restore points created by windows but it isn't everyday backup, so I want to do a daily restore point backups, I went to Task Scheduler >> Windows>>System Restore, there is a task already there, I changed it to be daily at 4am, and It's enabled.
I check everyday in history and I see that the job is successfully done, but if I go to restore points I don't see any of those backups except the ones which Windows creates randomly or after installations.
So i added an WD 2TB HDD to my computer, and removed an old ATI Sapphire HD 5450 GPU. When i booted up, my computer was unable to find an OS, and it said to remove any HDD that does not have an OS, and so i did. Then i t said reboot and choose device, but when o rebooted, it just went back to the same screen. I tried to enter system recovery, but it bluescreened... i have tried this like 6 times, rearranging SATA cables and SATA power cables,
SYSTEM SPECS:
Intel core i7 6xxx 3.4 GHz
MSI GAMING PRO MOBO
MSI GTX 970
HYPERX FURY 16GB RAM
ATI Sapphire HD5450 (the one i removed)
240GB SSD, + 108 GB HDD + WD 2TB HDD ( the one i wanted to add)
One of the 1st things I do with a new PC is create & test a recovery drive. This is the 3rd Windows 10 PC I've worked on-all Toshiba Satellites by coincidence. This one seems to have a problem, possibly creating the recovery drive and if not that then certainly using it. Or else I've forgotten how I used it on the other two. I test it by doing a restore from system image-since I create it immediately after completing setup I haven't lost anything and this assures me that if nothing else I can get back to 'ground zero'.
This is the 3rd time I've tried this on the new PC. The first time it said it was unable to create the recovery drive. I checked the USB stick & tried again. That time is 'successfully' created the drive. Both times 'copy system image to recovery drive' was checked. When I tested the 'successfully' created drive it couldn't find a system image on it.
So I'm trying it again and it's just sitting on the 'Please Wait' screen-for 20 minutes so far. Presumably it's erasing the drive so I'm reluctant to simply reboot. And this is the last 16GB USB stick I have. Should I shut it down & try again, get another USB stick, or what? Or have I totally forgotten what I did on the previous 2 PC's that worked?
I opened my computer after having it been asleep all night; everything was working fine until I realized that my sound volume was stuck at a high level and no matter what I changed the volume to, it would not go down. Having had issues with my sound drivers before, I solved this by reinstalling the sound driver. I figured this would be the end of my issues for the day and restarted the computer to finalize the installation. Then windows installed updates, and when I got back into the system, I realized something was wrong. I have Advanced System Care 9, which comes with a real-time monitor of system usage (RAM and CPU), and I noticed that the CPU usage was much higher than it should be--usually it will be around 1-5% when I am not running anything (or just a few programs), but instead it was using 20-90% CPU, and the RAM would not go any lower than 24%.
However, I had had this issue before; Bitdefender Antivirus had started acting up a few days ago using up 90-100% CPU, and I had caught it using Microsoft Process Explorer. Removing Bitdefender solved the problem. So, naturally, I went to the process explorer to check what was using so much CPU again. But this time--nothing. The windows process explorer showed nothing using that much CPU. From there, I began to notice the rest of the problems: many functions of the task bar would not work, such as any of the toolbar icons, or the windows icon, or Cortana. Firefox would not open, either, and I could not get Steam to connect.
Also Ctrl+alt+delete did nothing but bring up an endless black screen, as did restarting. The only way to reboot is to force it by pressing the power button. Therefore I could not reach safe mode. From there I ran a myriad of virus/malware/adware scanners/cleaners/optimizers, none of which found or did anything to fix the problems, though my computer is now squeaky clean otherwise! Eventually I managed to get into safe mode by a very finicky method, which was by turning the computer off during startup which made it do a startup repair next time it turned on, from which I was able to enter safe mode.
And in safe mode--everything works. None of the described issues happen there. I am able to use all the windows features (aside from those blocked in safe mode), ctrl+alt+delete and restarting function properly, and I am able to connect to the internet and use firefox, everything works. So this means that there is something there causing the problems, and it is being blocked by safe mode, but I cannot find it! After running several more scanners, all of which found either nothing, or only small innocuous things, I ran Microsoft Safety Scanner, which found a "severe" trojan which was (I believe) called Dynammer!ac, and I figured this must have been the culprit--but no. Restarting and returning to normal mode resulted in the same problems occurring. Since then I have uninstalled/reinstalled a few drivers that were suggested to me to try, such as sound (the one that I had to replace before the problems started), and the display drivers, none of which fixed anything, either.
After I backup I get an error message: The system cannot find the file specified (0x80070002).

I have HDD attached but they are encypted with bitlocker. Prior to upgrade I had no issues.
Windows 10 can't find my USB hub (F4U017). Device manager shows driver SXUPTP.SYS has a problem and has blocked it. I can't find an upgrade.
View 3 RepliesI found out that the hard disk is 100% utilized. In Task Manager, the process that utilizes the disk the most is ESET Service. If I open Resource Monitor there are many instances of the System process that are reading the disk, not writing it. I have two partitions on my disk - one for the system and the other one for data; the extensive disk reading is done for Pictures (I assigned a folder with pictures, about 140 GB in size, to the system My Pictures folder) on the data partition.
I am not running any tests in the ESET Endpoint Antivirus software and it seems to me that the high disk activity starts when I do not do anything and just e.g. browse Internet or look at something. So, it feels like Windows is doing something, but what it is and how I can influence it. If it were disk optimizations I think I should see also disk writes, not only reads. Could it be that Windows is doing something automatic with Pictures, Documents, etc.?
I wonder what is going on - I dislike the fact that something is going on with the hard disk, making is 100% utilized and making other work very slow and non-responsive.
Whenever booting my pc I get a "operating system wasn't found error". I've checked to make sure my hard drive was set to the boot drive and I've tried reinstalling but that doesn't work either.

View 3 RepliesI installed Win 10. I have several hundred MP3's in my Win 7 "Music" folder, but in Win 10 I now see only a dozen or so. I rolled back 10 to 7; presto! there they are. Re-installed 10 and have the same issue: I cannot locate a folder full of my music. I can find any title I search for; just not all of them in one location.
Also, is there a good replacement app for Media Player?
I am using Media Monkey on my PC. I am able to see the location of some of my music however when I navigate to the folder C:UsersStuMusic there is nothing there.
View 9 RepliesDidn't notice until recently that the shortcut to Adobe Acrobat reader is not there and I can't find it in my programs. I was worried about some documents that i had recorded in ecosign but when i typed ecosign into the Search Bar it led me to the site and everything is there except my electronic signature This leads me to think that Adobe is in there somewhere. In going to their site I see that Adobe 11 seems to be the latest. Should I just download it? Before Windows 10 Adobe always sent me update notices.

View 9 RepliesMy Vaio laptop came with a built-in recovery partition (it's 'bout 32GB and hidden). Sometimes I use it to reset my PC back to factory conditions due to unexpected errors. But yesterday I was shocked 'cuz Windows Disk Management showed that my recovery partition was empty! When I checked with different third-party apps they showed the partition had 'bout 27GB in use. In fact I couldn't boot into Vaio recovery mode anymore.
